  1. Amazing work!
  2. Depends what you are looking for in a sim....
  3. Gonna be weird seeing F-16s with Iraqi markings if this actually goes thru :) http://biz.yahoo.com/rb/080905/iraq_fighters_usa.html
  4. it took 8-10 days for it to arrive from UK to U.S.
  5. You mean this button? (I don't know if anyone outside of U.S. would get this reference, it is a stupid Staples TV comercial we have over here :))
  6. I thought this was strictly with Flanker series. If it is about first "sim" then Janes Advanced Tactical Fighters oh great memories. :D
  7. When I get shot BVR and I have no idea where the missile is I like to go into S-turns while keeping my nose down a bit to keep notching the enemy and I always roll towards the ground when I change direction because it keeps my speed up. I start with long S-turns and do them more repeatedly when I have that feeling the missile is getting closer. When closer and if I can see the missile coming I like performing an F-pole or beam (if I do not have the enemy locked yet) and at the last second I pull up hard and barrel roll over it which puts my nose facing the bandit and I can use autoacquisition to lock him up.
  8. FPS, specifically Team Fortress 2!! :D
  9. To talk to others, u can download teamspeak and find their teamspeak server ip on their server info before u join the game. You can also download the video for getting online basics from flankertraining
  10. I am not an expert at mission building but I think you just need to change the skill from client to something else (excellent, or whatever to make them AI). Change your own aircraft from "client" to "player". The problem is that I don't think you will have any wingmen as each client aircraft need to be on separate flights. So you may have to group them together into flights unless you want to fly alone and have all these aircraft doing their own thing.
  11. there is a large thread in the computer forum I visit frequently with many user experiences. http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/showthread.php?t=200501 Overall it seems to be extremely fast (much faster than FF3, etc) but very early to really decide how good it is overall. I believe java is not working properly yet either. Being open source it will have the great advantage that Linux has in that everything is visible and any security problem should be easily found and taken care of. I wouldn't really use it yet to replace FF3 or Opera until it is more "seasoned" though. What I like most is 1) open source, 2) multithreaded, 3) it seems to be really fast
  12. Was your Q6600 a old B3 stepping? The older B3 ran hot as hell unfortunately, but the B3 that came out around the time that G0 stepping hit the shelves ran much cooler. I personally waited for the G0 stepping which was really the selling point for me as it would do usually around 3.6GHz easily with good air cooling. I am on water cooling and my temps are around 33-34C idle, and 68-70C running small FFT Prime95 on all 4 cores. With LOFC I doubt it ever goes over 50C. What kind of ambient temperatures do you have in your computer room? I think your Q9550 is gonna rock, even the Q9450 overclock like a dream as long as the temps in the room are not too hot temps should be fine. Remember the max vcore for Penryn is around 1.4V. That seems to be the consensus right now. Intel technical reports claim their absolute maximum vcore (for daily use) for Kentsfield (Q6600) at 1.55V and Penryn (Q9550) at 1.4V.
  13. Great! Looking forward to it.
  14. I'm looking forward to checking out your overclock. As far as why it seems smoother in a zoomed out cockpit it is probably simply because your FPS are over a threshold that makes it look smoother to your perception. I do not have FPS slow down in my Q6600 in a zoomed out cockpit but I am overclocked. Also the Penryn (Q9550) despite being practically the same architecture as Q6600 is slightly faster clock per clock than Kentsfield (Q6600). I bet you have not noticed much FPS increase in average FPS but the minimum FPS has actually increased to a more comfortable number.
  15. DArt, would it be possible to allow for the map to be zoomed out farther than right now? No rush, but I think it would make it easier to work on a larger scale mission across map. Thank.
  16. Thanks GG I actually don't fly online anyway. Tried it once and not really into it.
  17. ah thanks, ;) So is it worth it to keep ECM if we know we have a HOJ on the way? It seems like a situation like you are damned if you do and you're damned if you dont. I have read suggestions that ECM could be turned on and off in 5 sec intervals to make the HOJ missile work harder.
  18. Quick question for those of you who know the intricate modeling of this sim. I have noticed that when an R-27ER or R-77 is launched at me from near Rmax, I usually don't get an early warning until I turn my ECM off. Is there some truth to this or is it just my imagination? BTW, regarding the OP, I have noticed this a lot too. I have seen many times R-27ER, and R-77 fly in a beautiful straight line to nowhere. I thought I was just getting good :D
  19. The Asus P5K Premium and Deluxe are essentially the same board. The Premium has better voltage regulation, and a few other minor improvements but they are almost the same. In fact most of the BIOS settings for all P5K series is very similar too. Everest and coretemp I think give the same temperature readings. I like to use more than one program though just in case. Your idle temps seem a little high for a stock cpu but that could also depend on your ambient temperatures. My Q6600 at 3.6GHz for example idles at around 33-34C on water cooling and my room is at around 22-23C. The Asus P5K Premium is a dream to overclock, add an E8400 to the mix, oh you'll have fun alright ;)
  20. Yes you can notice the difference in FPS in the game. Min FPS is the key, but even with 24 min FPS I can notice a little stuttering sometimes with TrackIR when taking off from a busy airfield. This is why I will be moving to a high end dual core like E8600 (which overclock to 4.5GHz-5GHz) in about a year when I will no longer need my quad core. I am not sure about all the vsync and other GPU settings or how they affect performance. Sorry. I just ran the same (2.4GHz run) with vsync off and this were the results: 2008-08-31 20:17:00 - lockon Frames: 66204 - Time: 1026858ms - Avg: 64.472 - Min: 16 - Max: 216 Average FPS decreased. BTW, I owned a Zalman 9500 about 1.5 years ago and I was not very impressed by it. If you do run into heat problems and you know your CPU can overclock more I recommend looking at a Tuniq Tower, Zalman 9700, or the king Thermalright Ultra-120 Extreme (fan sold separately).
  21. yeah, I would start ocing the CPU first, so it is easy to troubleshoot any instability. Software you need: cpuz - system info coretemp - temperature monitor prime95 - stress/stability testing Make sure you have the latest BIOS for you P5K premium. I am using 0204 because updating them messed up my RAID setup so I went back to 0204 which still works fine as far as I can tell. This is a good place to start overclocking your P5K, this link is for all P5K series which have very similar BIOS options. Make sure you go step by step enabling or disabling features which may cause instability. Remember to enable CPU voltage damper which eliminates vcore vdroop so your CPU voltage does not drop with CPU load. For your main settings I would start by increasing the FSB say 50MHz at a time with a 9 multiplier, boot back into windows run Prime95 (small FFT stress test) while monitoring your temperatures with coretemp. Continue raising FSB until it becomes unstable and Prime95 gives you errors. The rule of thumbs is no more than 1.4V vcore for Penryn (45nm). I would keep it below 1.39V just to be safe. Try to keep your temperatures below 60C (this is also rule thumb but I personally have been running my Q6600 up to 70-80C for a year with no problems). Also make sure to change the FSB strap accordingly so you are not running your RAM over stock speeds (you have breathing room here since you have PC-8500). There is no much benefit from overclocking RAM, yes there will be some gain in performance but not that much. So focus on CPU clock speed. Your E8400 assuming good cooling and assuming you don't have a "turd" (pardon my french) should be doing around 3.8-4GHz easily. I have done GPU overclocking but honestly my stock speeds are enough for the games I run. You can check out rivatuner as an alternate (more sophisticated) overclocking software to ntune. Make sure if you do oc your GPU to increase the fan speed within ntune or rivatuner. You would not see much improvement between your 8800GT settings and my slight factory overclock. * Also, when overclocking make sure your PCIe link width which is read in cpuz under the Mainboard tab is running at x16 and not x1 or x4. I have this problem when I am running at 3.6GHz where it drops to x1 if I do not run my North Bridge at 1.4V. If the link width drops to x1 your GPU performance will take a heavy hit.
  22. Ok, I ran the track called demo-su-25-cas for consistency so FPS can be compared better. This mission has a good deal of ground pounding, smoke, and explosions. I ran it all the way until around the point when the lead Su-25 jetisons remaining weapons (16-17 minutes). I have included my settings and my mods. I am also running Vista x64 which is more taxing (lower FPS) than Windows XP. I am also running my 8800GT at stock with 8xAA and 16xAF, but my 8800GT is slightly overclocked from factory to 660 core / 1900 memory. The minimum FPS is the key, there is a 50% increase in minimum FPS with a 50% overclock :) Results: 2.4GHz (9x266) DDR2@800 5-5-5-15 2008-08-31 19:06:38 - lockon Frames: 73510 - Time: 1064597ms - Avg: 69.050 - Min: 16 - Max: 319 3.6GHz (9x400) DDR2@1000 5-5-5-15 2008-08-31 18:33:49 - lockon Frames: 98621 - Time: 1018991ms - Avg: 96.783 - Min: 24 - Max: 323
  23. agreed, plus the greatest benefits of Nehalen over Penryn will be seen in multi-threaded apps. What I am most excited about this Nehalen release is the prospect that hopefully the prices of existing Penryn (which overclock insanely) will continue to come down. I am drooling over getting an E8600 and overclocking it to near 5GHz. :D
