Just wanted to say thanks for this. Had to do some serious searching through the various threads on the subject before coming across this working solution. -
Please Help Me Restore My Old x52 profiles
deadsmell replied to deadsmell's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
Ya know what man, lol forget it. With the time and effort im making trying to make heads or tails out of this, Id be flying......... I just opened it with notepad, and now it has no extension at all lol, somethin screwy goin on around here. Watch ill have to reformat just to get a working profile...........lol thank you very much though. Hey there is one more thing. Is there a way to disassociate a file type with a particular program once its been associated with it? +1 for your rep! -
Please Help Me Restore My Old x52 profiles
deadsmell replied to deadsmell's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
Thanks for the quick response, let me try what you suggested in your first post and see if that does anything. I noticed when dragged and dropped, it automatically put the files where you said yours are, so the drag and drop SHOULD have worked........ Let me try changing the extension as you suggested. Ya know what im wondering now though, is do these files need to be zipped when uploaded? Cuz all I did when I backed them up was emailed them to myself as an attachment, lol. Kind of a cheap lazy way to back em up, but I thought it was pretty smart at the time. I didnt zip them or anything. Edit: With my luck I probably fall into that oddity category your talking about between older and newer versions. What a joke. lol. Because earlier I found the original disc that came with the stick. and when I tried to add the profiles to that, they did show up in the profiler. Only problem was that version of the tools, Kept crashing, which i assume was due to me being on win7 now. Jeez louise, why on earth wouldnt they make the new tools backwards compatible with peoples old profiles. Thanks again for the suggestions, Ill post back and let ya know if it works. Im fearing the worst at this point. Ill upload those profiles just give me a minute here. -
K guys, I installed win7 a while back, and Im just now getting around to reinstalling my favorite games, and apps etc. Prior to switching to the new OS, I saved what I thought were my x52 profiles. I saved both .dat, and .pro files for all my games. I have the new sst software and drivers. Problem is, I dont really know what im supposed to do with these files now. Ive tried placing them under C:/program files/saitek/software.... That doesnt work. Ive tried the ol drag and drop into the profiler........ That doesnt work. Please help me out. I spent so much time with these profiles, I really really really dont want to have to go back and start from scratch with these things. I just want to play.:helpsmilie: Where am I supposed to put those .dat, and .pro files at to make them be recognized by the profiler?

yeah all that was pre-rendered lol. Not really sure what the point of even making that little promo is............. It doesnt really show the product.......... Do they market this stuff to the military in the same way that activision markets to teenagers, cuz it sure seems like it. If they pitched this product to me the way this little promo does, id laugh in their face and tell em to get out of my office.

i took advantage of the Shattered Horizon free trial weekend. I only spent a couple hours with it so far, but its not the worst game ive ever played. the game certainly has potential. Frankly its quite surprising a game like this hasnt come out before this one. The concept is cool. really it just needs deeper gameplay elements, and more levels. not bad to try out though, and im sure many people would see the value in buying during the weekend while its half price at 9.99

both of those look pretty cool.

wierd question about the game engine....
deadsmell replied to deadsmell's topic in DCS: Ka-50 Black Shark
Thanks for the great answers everyone. Xplane looks truly fantastic. I hope to add that to the flight sim collection at some point. Out of curiosity does anyone happen to know of any other physics based apps that might be available just to determine things like how much thrust is required to lift 1ton straight into the air 100 feet or things like that? A simple basic app will do, just to give me some idea. I know theres gotta be something like this out there. I know its weird, but I think I could have fun with it, and hopefully learn alot in the process. ok well anyway, thanks again for the great responses guys. -
I was just wondering to myself if it would be possible to use the engine to play around with say inventing a flying car. Say if I knew how to create my own models and give them some sort of power source. Could this be done? Basically im asking if I could use the engine to study flight characteristics of anything I can think of? Could I theoretically build a virtual flying machine the world has never seen, and test it with the engine? Would it give an accurate representation of how the vehicle would perform in real life? Sorry, I realize this is kind of out there on the fringe, but my curiosity is genuine.

Well I thought I was a into flight sims but.....

This is one thing I dont see enough of. Dont just read the manual, and dont just watch the training videos. TAKE NOTES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I cant stress that enough. It works for me anyway. I even draw up diagrams and stuff if I need to. I think thats seriously the best advice for you right now. TAKE NOTES!!!! DO IT!!!! -
One thing I did notice in that little bit of demonstration: During the demonstration the demonstrator applied some "left" input on the stick initiating a left bank. At that time the demonstrator removed his hand from the stick, to move over and turn his focus to the throttle. However the aircraft continued to roll left as if the the user was still applying that left input on the stick. Maybe its just me, but It seems like that would be very problematic for the user. If the input doesnt return to center when not sensing any applied force, then that must mean that the user has to return the stick to center manually, and given that the stick doesnt physically move, the user would be forced to play some sort of guessing game when returning the stick to center. I can already see the complaints from virtual pilots pouring in on how they are fighting the stick constantly on those approaches with heavy crosswinds and such, simply because they are constantly guessing what position their damn flight controls are in, lol. Hope that makes sense. I could be wrong, just thought id bring it up and see what you guys thought. I would also imagine there could potentially be a substantial delay involved in using the system.

Is this game out already? or is everyone playing the demo?

Virtual Festival of Aerobatic Teams 2009
deadsmell replied to Frazer's topic in Lock On: Flaming Cliffs 1 & 2
Just to clarify, im talking about after the entire thing is over, say on the 7th? A few months ago you mentioned that after the 2009VFAT that the berkuts server would be up on a more permanent basis. just checkin. -

Looking forward to watching. :) Im curious, is there any kind of schedule or "show program" available yet? I just want to know if some performances are only available on certain days or anything. I thoroughly enjoyed the fall festival. Are you guys still planning on putting the Berkuts phantom server up full time for a while after the show is over? :music_whistling: -
Semi OT - Can somebody buy this Su27 please?
deadsmell replied to ARM505's topic in Lock On: Flaming Cliffs 1 & 2
FYI guys, you can often find L-39 Albatross for sale in the ballpark of $500,000. I know its not SU (obviously), just saying......... where theres a will theres a way, and 500,000 is much more attainable than 4 million plus. I have a friend that is a heli pilot, and him and several others all pulled their money together to buy a heli for them to share. So if you guys really wanted to purchase an aircraft as a group, it does happen, it is fairly common, and it CAN be done. :) -
and the doppelganger would be the ones pining over realism, and that their GAMES just arent REAL enough lol. I myself have bored of the ego's in the flight sim community that seem to share the same elitist mentality as the mainstream gaming scene. They are just two sides of the same coin. Even for FAA approved simulators, there is a very small set amount of hours that a simulator can be used for actual logged hours. Its primarily used for instrumentation practice. Point being that in a simulated environment, only THEORY in a controlled environment can be practiced and learned from, and for that reason, the level of training provided by simulation is quite limited. Turning on your computer, and playing for a while does not mean you are in flight school. lol. Or that you are by any means qualified to fly an aircraft. lol. In the end I want to have fun. Will better graphics create a more immersive experience for the player? Without question, Absolutely. Due to hardware limitations recent sims have had to compromise graphics for performance etc etc. However things are getting better and better all the time. Look at how good FSX can look now on a good machine with the right addons. It didnt look or perform that way when it came out. But as hardware keeps improving......... Do all those pretty addons make the experience better? Absolutely. I for one am certainly not going to have any reservations about a sim simply because it has stunningly amazing graphics. That being said, I dont think you can compare hawx or ace combat, as those are arcade games by design. Im pretty sure Arenalogics product wasnt made with the notion of success being based on worldwide sales numbering in the hundreds of thousands, to millions of units sold, to young males in the age range of 7-19.
-
interesting. :) @agg I think the arenalogic guys have done a bit more than just a lay a flat satellite image over their landscape. I could be wrong, perhaps that is what they have done, but when compared to similar apps like the photo realistic addons available for FSX, the quality demonstrated in that arenalogic vid, is much higher fidelity. In the FSX photo-realistic addons, you dont get that kind of clarity at low altitudes. It gets really blurry, and you lose that Photo-realistic effect. Even though they are 2d buildings and what not (arenalogic vid) they still have a fidelity and clarity that still gives a 3d "feel" even at low altitudes. Id like to have it anyway....... Even flying at low altitude the level of detail is much more life like in my opinion, and tends to have a more 3dimensional appearance to the eye even if it is in fact 2d. As mentioned previously, the sensation of speed is very nice in that vid, and is something i have always felt was lacking in other flight sims. Anyway its just my opinion, I happen to like what I see in that vid, and I hope that it makes its way into future flight sim developments. From what I understand, Russia has some of the best Sat imagery in the world. It would be great if we could get an addon/mod for lockon/DCS that would take advantage of these images and employ them into the sim.
-
??? If thats not looking so good................... How do you think the DCS lockon series looks by comparison?? Just curious, because to me that sim is obviously YEARS ahead of the current engine employed by ED.

Thanks for the info. Thats the protocol ive been trying to follow. I guess my lights (landing/taxi) are just bugged out for some reason. Ill try and figure out what the cause might be, but Im not sure if I will be able to figure it out in the end. BTW Is anybody interested in organizing a Thanksgiving day FSX flight? I thought it might be fun..... I know usually we all have different schedules, live in different time zones etc. Just thought maybe if alot of us have the day off, and arent doing much it might be possible to get a flight in. Id really like to ride co-pilot in some of the heavies with anyone that knows what their doing. Ive been flying the CRJ700 because its more maneuverable and more forgiving, while also letting me feel like im the captain of a regional passenger flight. Despite my familiarity with the auto pilots and other flight systems in the CRJ700, I am still finding the transition to heavy's to be difficult. Anyway just throwin it out there.
-
Yeah my landing lights will work, but not during the day when there is plenty of sunshine. I thought that they used to work during the day, but perhaps i am mistaken. Whether its day or night, isnt it standard operating procedure to have your landing lights on during take off or landing though? The AI seems to have their landing lights on during daytime takeoffs and landings. It seems my taxi lights arent working though. Im thinking this could all be related to 3d lights redux somehow. Oh well I suppose I can just live with it this way. At least for a while. Any insight is appreciated. :)

Thanks guys. I am now using trafficx. Seems to be working well, the aircraft models are much higher fidelity than MT2010. It looks really good. It does come with a framerate hit for me, at least at the larger airports, but so far i think it seems to be manageable. And of course The Lights Work now on the AI aircraft! Tis a gorgeous site to see all those red and green lights in the night sky with the strobes blinking about. Very cool. Now if I could just figure out why my landing lights wont turn on.......gahhhh. Not sure when this started since i installed a few addons at once, but when i go to switch on my landing lights, they shut themselves off right away.................@#%&!!! lol.....always something......... Thanks for the advice and help.

BTW I never even saw just flight trafficx come up in a search while I researched FSX traffic products, I dont know if that speaks for my poor internet searching skills or what, but now that im reading about it on the just flight site, it sounds fantastic. I like that they have that traffic viewer and stuff like the follow me car, and that guy with binoculars (spotty). This looks like a very fun addon, and had I known about it first, it definitely would have been my first choice. I feel like such an idiot now......... oh well, its just my luck..... For all the FSX sites out there, there needs to be one that does a really good job of informing the community about ALL of the different company's/products/and options that are available out there. It seem there is so much out there, and its all kind of scattered about the net..... its hard to even know if there is a different comany/product that can provide what your looking for if you dont know just exactly where to look.
