What is a great starter plane for me and my Oculus Rift

Ok, I bought the albatros and the sabre..... Spending some cash is necessary for our hobbies sometime. Let learn and fly! -
Hello!! Welcome to the forum! I have the Oculus Rift and I am pretty happy with it. My i7 2600k and gtx970 are pretty old but with lowered settings things are pretty good in DCS 2.5 I fly the Huey quite regularly and the immersion is fantastic. My hardware does not allow me to push the supersampling beyond 1.3 or 1.4 but since you have a much better rig there would much room for improvement at your PC. I also have vkb rudder pedals and thustmaster stick and throttle. Those things are pretty expensive but very sturdy and precise. The rift is ok as I mentioned but the resolution is the weakest point here. I bought it 1.5 year ago and have not seen too much improvement in the field. Ok, there is the vibe pro but it is twice the price of a complete thrustmaster setup which will last for a decade maybe. If you can wait one more year or maybe 2 you'll get a much better headset for your money probably. But......and it is a big but......waiting for the next generation hardware will keep you busy for the rest of your days...... I have always been planning and waiting for the next gpu, faster memory etc..before you know it dcs3 or Xplane 12 will be there requiring you to upgrade whatever you have at the moment. So, if you have the cash, go for the rift and thrustmaster stuff. You won't be too disappointed. Your hardware is top notch so you can crank up your supersampling quite a bit. Some people say the Samsung Odyssey is very good though. You'll have to Google some reviews for that. Good luck and don't hesitate to ask!!

How about the free SU25T? I mean, it's free and so...I Own it already. It has no clickable cockpit so I'll have to remember a lot of key combinations or use voice attack which I already have. Is the flightmodel any good? Is having a non clickable cockpit a problem in VR? -

Ok so I'm thinking towards the f5 I guess. Especially since the cockpit is readable in vr as beastybaiter mentioned. Does it have a good training campaign? The sabre sound good as well. Is it suitable for VR? Thecampaign for it has great reviews. I am focusing now on manoeuvring and navigation so the basic stuff. They say the a10c is pretty easy to fly. Is the cockpit good for vr. I am just looking for some great flying experience. Me in my cockpit a few hours per week, no multiplayer. Spent lots of time on Facebook and P3d but ended up tweaking most of my spare time. I am ready for some real action. Thanks you all for your time!! -

How about the albatros? That is a trainer aircraft right?? -
Hello everybody, Have Been playing with helicopters in dcs for awhile and Absolutely Love them. I want Something Different now and I'm Thinking about a Jet Plane. No World War 2 plane because I like something a bit more sofisticated. Maybe a Korean War jet or Something Newer. I am pretty new to fixed wing planes so something not too difficult would be great. The Sabre or Mig 15 are pretty cool. The default SU25t seems ok but has no clickable cockpit. I'm using my Oculus rift all the time so I don't know if that is a advantage of not. The most important Thing however is that the plane Must Have some decent en training missions. I gave up on the Huey a few times because there are very few training missions. I know the a10c has lots of training options/campaigns but it is perhaps a bit to complicated for me since I only fly 2 hours per week. All those small knobs and screens are not the best thing in VR.... I have a thustmaster warthog joystick and throttle btw. What would be a good starter plane for me?? Thanks for your thoughts! Jozeff

Hi everyone, Is the wiki still available??? Every time I try it it says ''MediaWiki internal error''. Thank you! Jozeff

Hello, I have been flying the Huey in VR for some time now and I love it. I have some trouble looking at the radio panels because of Oculus low resolution however. Is it possible to create a custom view of these panels and bind it to a key? I have read some stuff about macros and snap views but find it a bit confusing. Used custom views in fax and xplane for years. Thank you in advance!! Jozeff

This sounds pretty cool to me. Just what I was looking actually. I've been having a lot of fun with some freeware missions but what I miss is a decent training possibility for the Huey. Bought the Argo mission recently and it is great but a little too difficult for me at the moment. I'm willing to pay for decent training missions with real time hints and tips. Since I have Caucasus only that would be my area of choice. What timeframe are you thinking of? When could this be released? Good luck with your development!! Jozeff

Hello all, Want to try the default UN huey campaign in 2.5 but when I try this there is no possibility to choose A specific chapter of the campaign. It seems like I can start the campaign but only from the beginning. It says: mission inactive. In version 1.5.8 I could choose each seperate UN campaign part 1 - 10( I believe there are 10.....) I bought the Argo campaign but wanted to try the UN missions first because they are some what easier. Any thoughts? Thanks!! Jozeff

Hello all, I have tried to adjust kneeboard size with the kneeboardbuilder. The size and position of the kneeboard however do not change when I am in dcs. Is there a .lua file i can tweak a bit to increase the size of the kneeboard?? Googling around but no luck so far. I use vr so thats why I need a bigger kneeboard. Edit: it looks like kneeboardbuilder.exe has to be running during the game.... Is that correct? Thank you!!! Jozeff

possible to pause/repeat text instructions in tutorial
jozeff replied to jozeff's topic in DCS Core Wish List
Thanks for your thoughts. Isnt it built in some script? I mean someone typed these lines and decided we have to press spacebar after 2, 3 or whatever number of lines. This should not be this difficult I guess?? Jozeff -
Hello All, I was wondering if it would be possible to pause or repeat the white text/instructions in the upper right corner. I am learning the huey but the training mission shows six instructions at once which fade out and then disappear. I would like to keep them visible and disappear only when I press spacebar. Any ideas?? Thank you! Jozeff

Dear all, A newbie question here. Learning navigation in the huey in dcs2.5. I would like to dial in inner and outer ndb frequencies. I want to check the distance and heading to them using the ruler in the dcs map. However, I don't know how to show these ndb's on the map. I have absolutely now idea where these ndb's are. The mission editor map show many options but the in game map(F10) does not show all these things.... Are there better options to learn how to navigate? Any help or hints would be appreciated! Grtz Jozeff

Hello all, Want to try the default UN huey missions in 2.5 but when I try this there is no possibility to choose A specific Mission. It seems like I can start the campaign but only from the beginning. It says: mission inactive. In version 1.5 I could pick each mission from 1-13. Is the argo mission worth buying. Does it contain some more explanation and preparation material?? Any thoughts? Thanks!! Jozeff

Hello all, I am trying to setup my thrustmaster warthog for the huey in dcs using my Oculus rift. I tried 2 profiles that I got from the user files section. The latest one looks pretty good but the .diff files do not get loaded properly in dcs. It has a nice pdf overview that looks pretty good. This is the one I would really like to use (see link): https://www.digitalcombatsimulator.com/en/files/3180261/ the older ones used the .lua extension which worked rigut away but I did not like the profile as much If anyone is willing to share their warthog profiles for dcs.......that woul be awesome! could anyone lead me in the right direction?? Thanks in advance! Jozeff

Hello, Where can I get the black panel for the huey? I installed the colored artificial horizon mod but cannot find the black panel one... Thank you Jozeff

Have been in doubt for a week about the ka50, gazelle or mi8 to buy. I have the huey and it is awesome in vr but it is a bit hard to control without all the modern assistents. I understand that the ka50 has a lot of missions and looks great in vr also but is a bit overwhelming systemwhise. The gazelle is also interesting and looks good in vr but I am a bit worried about its handling and my trouble with the hueys handling holds me of a bit. So, i was thinking what about the mi8. Would the large cockpit be good in vr. I hear it is a lot more stable due to its weight and systems so it miht be an option also. Question is however. Are buttons easily readable in vr? Thanks for your input!
