Saturday afternoon I tried to host a game. I gave the correct ip and port of 10308. When I hit fly I ended up in a heli and everything was paused with the pause button flashing at the upper right corner.No one could join because of an invalid address or server closed. Someone else tried to host and I had the same prob. However, I have no problem joining as client to others hosting. Was wondering how I could get lan or dedicated server. Hope these questions make sense.

After much trial and error I discovered that flying with fd on and altitude hold off allowed me to more accurately control the ka-50 while hardly trimming-retrimming. In addition, I could enter a stable and sustained hover quite effortlessly compared to doing so with the fd off. So, try this. Fly with fd on and altitude hold off, go into a hover, trim once, disable fd and enable altitude control, trim once more and enable auto hover. You will be amazed at how simple and effortless it really is. Of course it will help if you have the above mentioned keys mapped on the joy stick and collective.

Agreed. Using trackir makes flying this wonderful sim sooo much easier. Plus, with trackir you can hit f7 for precision mode which allows you to pan around the cockpit more precisely thereby allowing you to use the various controls. The cost is around a hundred and something but it's well worth it.

I must say, the artificial intel in this sim is quite challenging. Apparently, dismounted infantry can engage airbourne targets at maximum range in inclement weather. Severe thunderstorms with zero visibility. Nice. Btw, the weather effects are well done. Good job wags and staff.

You can also order your wingman to recon x number of kilometers then order hold, then you move forward. This is called bounding overwatch.

I have the dl version of bs. Was wondering if there will be an added benefit of having the hardcopy. Will it take less toll on my puter? Bs works fine with everything set on high but sometimes my puter hickups.

Well, guess I learned something new. Thanx for the info. Btw, Prophet you are absolutely right. Since I increased my ram to 8 gigs my puter takes damn near forever to boot. Should I back off on the ram?

I swear I read somewhere in this forum that BS requires 5 gigs of ram minimum. That's why I upgraded from 4 gigs to 8 gigs. Or did I just waste money?

Well, I'm not very computer savvy but according to a member of the geek squad at best buy overclocking can lead to the dreaded blue screen of death. First time he had that prob. Anyhow, if you do overclock you really should'nt go above 10%...also from the geek squad...but then I could be wrong...

Bs works well with vista 64. However, there area a couple things you might want to take into consideration such as what type of vid card you have and remember, bs uses quite a bit of memory so I would suggest you get, at the minimum 5 gigs of ram. I have a gateway with win 64, 8 gigs of ram and nvidia 8800 and with everything set on high bs works very well. Oh and btw don't overclock...bad idea.

Is it possible to create a trp while in flight and order my wingman to go to that trp?

After reviewing the pilot manuals and the producers notes and compilations I have tried to save tgt points and while in flight have tried to order wingmen to data link points and have followed the procedures to the letter yet I cannot save tgt points and send my wingmen to datalink points. Any help will be much appreciated.

Last night I flew in fd mode for about an hour and discovered just how amazing the chopper is, meaning that I conducted incredible manuevers while hardly using the trimmer /trimmer reset. Indeed the fd mode is quite essential to the survivabitlty of the pilot. Example: on route to the target area I flew with fd mode off, using trimmer whenever I altered my course. Once at the target area I enabled auto hover, acquired targets and engaged with atgm then while exiting the engagament area I came under heavy fire from dismounted infantry. I activated fd and was able to conduct evasive manuvers to get out of the kill zone. While in fd mode the manuvers were almost effortless. Once out of the kill zone I disabled fd, flew back to base. Truly amazing is the accuracy of the flight dynamics of this sim.

Last night I tried for oh maybe half an hour to engage auto hover. It was quite frustrating because the day before the auto hover worked just fine. I forgot that flight director mode was engaged. Live and learn. Question is, is flight director mode really necessary?

After nuch frustration and pounding my puter desk I finally dl BS. This sim is by far the greatest one I've seen. Thank you DCS and all the beta testers for your outstanding attention to detail and realism.

I finally managed to purchase and download the english version of BS. When i attempted to install it the install was approximately 50 percent done when it failed with "etract failed with error code 2". Any ideas?
