  1. I think there's a pdf manual called quick start guide (or something like that) which goes into detail about how to activate and deactivate the game install. I actually had to do this the other day because I was updating my BIOS. Unfortunately what is in the guide is slightly different than the screens I saw when I ran protect.exe and so I accidently re-activated instead of deactivated it and used up 1 activation I didn't need to. Oh well, good thing they give us a lot of activations/deactivations with the english version.
  2. It would probably require a completely new engine. I know of only one game that combines air and ground first person combat and that's an MMOG. But yes, that would be cool.
  3. That may be a very cool detail but I don't see how it really qualifies as an Easter egg.
  4. If your talking about the one that Hawk11 is working on I believe it's for the future A-10 module for DCS.
  5. I've been trying to to figure this out! Thanks nemises. Just out of curiosity is this hidden somewhere in the manual? I've only started reading it. So far I've been able to cold start the chopper, take off, fly around a bit (like a drunken sailor) and most of the time land it. Now I'm fooling around with the mysteries of trim and the flight director. It's pretty slow going so far :joystick:
  6. My guess is your probably doing a memory test everytime you boot which with 8 megs might take some time. I usually turn that off in the bios as that's really overkill these days, especially when you have a lot of memory.
  7. Well I'm not sure it's exactly reasonable to expect ED or any developer to support 2, 3, or 6 different interfaces for 6DOF. That would just be a waste of resources. I mean they don't write specific interfaces for every graphics card out there. They go through an interface standard, Direct3D, to display graphics. That's really what would make sense here. Someone, most likely Microsoft, should come up with a standard interface and then you could just plug in any hardware that supports the standard. I'm not being anti-TrackIR here. I own a TrackIR4 and owned a TrackIR3 before it and I love it however using a standard interface would encourage competition and I that's a good thing.
  8. The guy you talked to gave you some bad information. I've never dealt with those guys much but I've heard they're not the most knowledgable techs in the world. Lots of people overclock a core2 duo from 2.8Ghz to 4Ghz or even higher and are quite stable. It does take some knowledge to learn how to do it right and yes it can lead to the BSOD but that's just part of the process. If you get a BSOD it just means you have to back off a bit on one or more parameters until you get it running reliably.
  9. See the the thread: http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=33399 :D True this isn't from the module that ED is working on for us but rather from the sim they worked on for the military but it should give a taste for what's coming...
  10. holycow dude, do the neighborhood lights dim you you turn that monster on? ;) Just out of curiosity why did you go with 32 bit Vista when you have 4G of memory. Were you lacking a 64 bit driver for some of the hardware you are using?
  11. Well I hope that Ice storm wasn't because of my computer playing habits or I'm going to have about a million people get really pissed at me (to say nothing about those army of utility workers out working in some pretty lousy conditions).
  12. actually with most routers you can set it up such that DHCP always assigns a particular computer the same IP address by tying it to the PC's MAC address. That way you don't necessarily have to set the IP address on the PC. I find this way to be easier because it gives one central place to control the IP addresses, especially if you have several devices running your local network.
  13. I agree with you about the snow LDemon. Nothing worse than a Christmas with no snow on the ground. I'd just prefer that the snow not interfere with me getting a few flight hours with Black Shark. Hey IronHand, I work up near you in Hanover. It's that long commute that's the reason I don't get home until I do.
  14. Ok, I download the English version last Thursday, virtually as soon as it came out. I'm excited about the fact that I may be flying that weekend. What happens? We have a devastating ice storm and Thursday night/Friday morning I loose power. I end up at a shelter (first time I've ever had to do anything like that) but I'm one of the lucky ones. I get my power back after 3 days but that's too late for the week end. ok, no problem. I'll wait until next weekend. Playing during the week really isn't an option because I generally don't get home from work until 7:30pm and it's usually 8:30pm by the time I've finished with dinner and then I'm just too tired to get my butt off the easy chair. It also doesn't help that I broke my ankle a few months ago so my mobility is a bit impaired. This weekend gets here and I'm thinking I'll get a little stick time but we about 10 inches of snow Friday night which meant I had to spend half of Saturday clearing out the snow and now they're forecasting between 8 - 14 inches today. *sigh*. I did finally get my first session at the stick on Saturday where I spent maybe an hour with the program which was just enough to watch a few tutorials and briefly takeoff (and quickly crash). The broken foot makes using the rudder pedals a challenge but hey, I just imagine that I've taken a round through the foot. Since it'll be snowing all day I won't have to get out to dig out until this evening so I'll have most of the day to play (in between watching the football games on today). I'll be flying to visit my parents for Christmas this week but once I get back I'll have a whole week off and maybe finally I'll get some serious stick time with this sim..God willing ;).
  15. I don't think the issue is with the amount of memory. It might have to do with the fact that when Vista allocates memory it allocates at random areas of memory. It does this to mitigate security issues with buffer overflows. I'm just speculating here but maybe it's the extra overhead related to that feature which might be causing the problem. I don't know. Who knows, for most people now that drivers and SP1 has stabilized things somewhat it won't be as much of an issue as it was in the past.
  16. I would be surprised if you see any improvement with SLI since I doubt BS really stresses the GPU. The performance of the sim is more likely to be limited by your CPU.
  17. That's a flame war waiting to happen :smilewink: and I say that as an F4/F4AF player. I'll grant you that the DCS F16 will probably have more fidelity not to mention full 3D clickable cockpit with 6DOF support but the issue will be with the campaign. I just find the F4 campaigns to be very enjoyable. Now granted I haven't played using the new campaign system in DCS:BS but just from descriptions I don't think it will be nearly as immersive or fun as F4. I do look forward to the DCS version of the F16 and will almost certainly buy it when it comes out but I'm not sure it will completely make me give up F4.
  18. I have to laugh a bit that you went to all the trouble of simulating all those complex electronics and systems including even icing effects and then neglected to simulate a working temperature gauge. Probably one the simplest instruments on the entire helicopter! I am really looking forward to this game (sorry, simulation!). I can only hope that my ankle (which I broke a few months ago) is healed enough to let me play the game properly when the English version comes out.
  19. Generally speaking the CPU is more important for performance than GPU. This is typically true of any hardcore sim. From what I've read the sim mostly just uses one CPU so if you have a dual or quad core you may not be able take advantage of all those cores however some people are saying if you use vista and set the afinity for the program to more than one core it seems to use those cores and increase FPS.
  20. I don't think you'll be able to use both cards at the same time. You'll be forced to choose one or the other when running the game. As far as I know the only way to use 3 monitors at the same time is by using the Triplehead box.
  21. Just contact ED and let them know what happened. From what I've read on these forums they're usually pretty good about giving your activations back.
  22. I think they mentioned the next sim will be the A-10C. One of the threads here a short while back even showed some screens they've already done for their military version of the A-10C.
  23. Now that would be cool. Fly through the tree tops and watch as branches and leaves go everywhere. What people forget about games like ArmA is that as others have pointed out it's primarily a ground combat game. That means among other things that rendered distances are much smaller than in a sim like DCS. I don't know the specifics about ArmA but I'm guessing we're talking about the difference between say rendering 5 square miles as opposed to say 15 or 20 for DCS. That's a huge difference in terms of the number of trees it would have draw between one and the other. That's where the performance issue comes in.
  24. You are seriously expecting they'll give you that information?!
  25. I think the month timetable was before the whole piracy issue. I'm pretty sure that is no longer in effect. I think ED said that they would expedite getting the english manual out to make up for in part the changes that have to happen because of the piracy issue. I would expect the demo out sometime in the next month however. I'm not expecting the english version of the game anytime before February at the earliest. Even before the change in plans ED said the English version wouldn't be available until sometime after the holidays.
