  1. I thought Russia was supposed to have plasma tanks and fielded EMP weapons already? Damn Pravda!
  2. I understand, but try to understand my point. I have no problem saying DU is harmful but so are a host of other things not banned. As someone who knows general health risks, I don't smoke, use aluminium-based underarm deodorant, or shoot at an indoor range  . On the same token, I can't see myself playing on or looting war trophies from a BMP eaten alive by a GAU-8 or drinking well water from an area that was near a battle. Common sense? In most cases DU is supposed to affect children and unborn babies the most. So does 2nd hand smoke and lead. So why not promote their ban as well? I am fairly certain either one of those two alone are responsible for more defects than DU. In the end.. do I think civilians have been inadvertly affected by DU? Yes. But I think the problem is more complex. Blaming every debilitating birth defect on DU seems like a haphhazard assetment when other variables of a war are neglected. ps I've been around exploded DU rounds, so I try to keep myself informed on the topic. To this date I am not ill; let's hope it stays that way.
  3. hahah you beat me to the lead argument. The yugo 7.62x39 M67 round is lead core.
  4. Not to detract from the hazard of DU but there's plenty of things on a battle field that can be hazardous to general health. The lead exposed from firing lead core ammunition can cause birth defects if it is inhaled in large quantities or gets into ground water. Burning metal, electronics, tires, plastics, and cordite fill the air when the sh!t hits the fan. I don't doubt that some of the children fathered in these areas are born disabled. War sucks. I think it's ignorant to place ALL the blame for these defects on DU and it cleary has an agenda of one purpose.
  5. If and when they test the YAL-1 against fighters, (if it is sucuessful) it will make this missile "blah", because the YAL-1 will most likely loiter with AWACS/JSTARS/Refuelers with a kill range of up to 600km. Of course I am being just as speculative with the YAL-1 shooting down planes as the Russians are with the K-100 deploying sucessfully.
  6. I was thinking this may be helpful. fachdb.pdf

  7. I was surprised to hear it wasn't an American and Russian sub that collided. Our two countries subs are made of magnetically opposite materials. :)
  8. Here's a couple pics I took at Camp Korean Village in Western Al Anbar back in 06 + some at sea pics with the 15th MEU Some 53s taking off towards Al Asad. (Affectionately nicknamed sh*t trucks.) A civilian Mi-17?? It was transporting civilians, soldiers, and marines. By referencing the tail number on google some claim it's a CIA operated bird. USS Boxer. Better than that rusty Kuzny. Here's a Vert rep bringing in supplies. Fresh eggs!
  9. Speaking of the F-22, check this out... http://www.aviationweek.com/aw/generic/story_generic.jsp?channel=awst&id=news/aw020909p2.xml&headline=F-22%20Design%20Shows%20More%20Than%20Expected
  10. Not sure if anyone has mentioned this before, but after watching all of the youtube videos with Black Shark cockpits (RL), it seems as if altitude and air speed for the sim are reported at a faster response time than RL. I understand there are probably different software versions out there in RL, but I haven't see any Russian hud systems that updated flight data at such a fast rate (for any aircraft). It usually seems to update every half second. (200-500ms) maybe?
  11. I remember some of the photos of The Georgian conflict displayed quite a few UXO A2G or SSMs. Of course then there is also the case of the Kursk.....
  12. I have a 295 as well and I get about the same FPS w/ a Q9550 @ 4.0 ghz in vista 64. This is the only game I go below 60fps in and that includes Crysis/warhead with max settings. Vantage score of 23k my old vantage score of 15k with a 8800gtx was getting better fps with the same cpu. This leads me to believe that the 295 is not being used to any of it's potential.
  13. The question is... if Russia allows their planes to get to this state then what state are their munitions in? Rounds, rockets, and dumb bombs are probably okay, but anything guided is most likely being neglected, unless it's under the Strategic Rocket Forces.
  14. http://www.reuters.com/article/worldNews/idUSTRE5152J020090206 Maybe they can refurb these planes to MiG-35s???
  15. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z03y04imhQg The Vikhr smokes like a refeer addict.
  16. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KOsNefPjgRY This one is new to me. Sri Lankan manpad vs Hind.
  17. http://www.liveleak.com/view?i=8bd_1232285568 check it out. ps I wish we atleast had this as an AI model in DCS.
  18. Chill man. Your wingie is just testing out his 'Taran' techniques.
  19. If we could actually analyze our aircraft after mission it would make DCS even better. If we could look at the bird with an analyzer (ala mechanic function) where we could see what systems were damaged or degraded by the flight. This would be good especially for making a non-dynamic campaign more enjoyable because we could carry on the aircraft we flew the day before, therefore enheriting it problems and giving us a better battle experience. Because DCS sets a new standard with all of the equipment modeled we could see equipment fail (instruments, warning lights, or major systems) Especially on a battle front, birds break down and that being simulated would rock. On top of that, I still believe a Marine Expenditionary unit would be the best US force to simulate in this region. (Cobras and AV8s) LCACS! (I was on the 15th so I am kinda partial to it) heh
  20. you start getting bored with "normal" landings.
  21. Disabling 1 GPU yielded interesting results. I did seem to get back about 5-6 fps. It is quite absurd that my 3d Mark Vantage score can be 23k, and I can play Crisis very high on everything and still get 60fps consistantly (1680x1050) but Black Shark basically laughs in my face with 30-40 fps over cities. Btw I do get 60 FPS in the mountains, so maybe it's a texture problem? It's a new card so things like this can be expected, but it's basically a 280 x2 with the memory of a 260 x2. It's not like it's a G300 series chip.
  22. Nothing can be done for geforce 295 atm. It's performance is horrid in DCS with the newest WHQL drivers.
  23. Sad thing. I just recently installed a Geforce 295 (2 gpus and 1768 megs of ram) /w a Q9550 @4 ghz I get 15-30 FPS over cities.... with the affinity patch running in vista64... I understand it's a new card, but come on..... optimize this awesome sim to use GPUs. Sigh, I guess I should throw my 8800gtx back in.
  24. I don't know if the real Ka-50 has this function, but I remember discussing air to ground tactics with Russian avionics when the Su-33 and MiG-29K were brought into play with Flanker 2.0/2.5 Aparently, there is a mode or an option with aircraft that can carry rockets to automatically fire once parameters have been met for the weapon to reach the target (ie) you have locked the target within your hud and now superimposed the circle with your aiming dot(s) and have recieved the "NP" signal.
  25. I remember an Airwolf episode where Airwolf was hit by missile but it did not explode. Instead, it was lodged into the airframe. The co-pilot (old dude) knocked the missile out of the bird with his fist or foot and it exploded outside without harming the "Airwolf". It brings back memories me asking my dad (a pilot) why helicopters can't go as fast as planes... because he would also yell "OH COMEON THIS IS BS!" when that show came on.... LOL
