Multicore CPU performance improvement
Mad Dog 7.62 replied to Prophet's topic in DCS: Ka-50 Black Shark
OK, I just did a little informal test....Vista Home Premium 32 bit, Quad Core processor....I alt-tabbed out and set affinity to all 4 cores. Prior to this I was getting fps from a high of 40 to the low 20's over citys....now its closer to 50 in open terrain....but the big difference was over a city the fps stayed in the 40's....it did not drop like it did. Seems that this might be something worth looking into. MD -
No, I have those all set at the defaults...which is to let the application decide where to set them iirc. MD
-
Its "Tool tips" on the setup menu....
-
Yes, 8800 GTS 640 Mb, on a Q6600 with 4 Gb ram. Textures on High, everything else on Medium, 1900x1200. You might turn things down to Medium and see what happens...also I don't have heat blur on, not sure how much of a hit that is to your fps?
-
I upped my textures to high and am still getting 30-40 fps, with an occasional dip into the 20's. Still pretty fluid though, no noticeable stuttering and very flyable. Good luck! MD
-
Vista Home Premium 32 bit here, installed as administrator and no problems. I have no idea what UAC is or how to disable it, so I presume its on on my machine. :-) Good luck....its an awesome bit of software! MD

I just ordered a Track IR4 so I can't tell you firsthand, but I know a lot of people are using it in this sim. There is a sticky post at the top of this forum about a head tracker file...something about a protected .dll with Starforce....maybe you need that .zip file?
-
You should be running quite well with that setup. You do have the checkbox for full screen checked? I am running with everything set at medium (except water) and 1900x1200 with a Q6600 and 8800GTX and the frame rates I have seen so far are all very good.

After a lot of hassle getting my big paws on it, I finally got a copy of Black Shark downloaded tonight!! Install went fine though it took a little while. Flew the bird around a bit right away with the graphic settings it installed with and the frame rate was very smooth. It installed with pretty much everything at medium and the res at 1280x1024 I think it was....the only problem was the switches and guages in the cockpit were not very easy to read. I bumped the resolution up to 1900x1200? and the improvement was immense, the cockpit guages and displays are nice and clear now, and the frame rate is still fine...I need to tweak them some more and see how much I can turn stuff up before my frame rates take a big hit. BTW my system is a quad core 2.4 Ghz with 4 Mb ram and a 8800 GTX vid card. Anyway....the chopper flies pretty nice...after a bit I could "feel" how much collective I needed and the sound of the rotors actually gives you good feel for how much bite they have in the air....pretty cool. I had one fatal crash when I settled too hard....other than that I managed a couple of decent albeit a little hard landings. I am very happy with the way the helicopter handles but I need a lot of practice on the systems! I never did get my rockets to fire....probably a switch setting somewhere....nor did I figure out the other optics very well....I need to watch Wags producers vids a few more times too...but all in all I am very impressed so far!! The english manual makes it quite possible to enjoy the russian version of this sim even if you don't speak russian....but when the full english version comes out it will be even better. But hey, for the cost of the download it is very well worth it!!! Thanks ED!!! :D

Wow, just a few minutes into this manual and the level of detail modeled in this sim is amazing....there is going to be a long and steep learning curve and its good to have the manuals ahead of time to start getting on top of it. Its awesome that ED made these available to us. -

Very much appreciated!!! I am going to send this to Kinkos to get a bound hard copy....looks like it will run about $40 for a single copy bound and ready to go. Much easier to read than the Russian translated one!! MD -

Thanks! Could you put the GUI manual there as well? -

That would be nice....I would ask someone to e-mail it to me but I am not sure how big an attachment my e-mail will let through. -

Tried that too...same thing, just goes to a blank page....https://www.digitalcombatsimulator.com/index.php and I cannot get registered. I can download the producers vids, screenshots etc, but not the manual. Any ideas anyone? -

OK, I am having some trouble with that....apparently the registration required there is different than the forum registration? And it won't let me register....it says there is a security certificate problem but when I click for it to go on anyway I just get a blank page...can't seem to register. Tried it from 2 different computers. Anybody else have problems like that? -
Good info ronht, thanks! A lot of good info is starting to come to light, the thread on increasing performance has some good tips in it to. Good community here! MD

Roger that. In Wags vids he took the rotor brake off as soon as he opened the fuel cutoff for the left engine. Cowboy is well past that point and is cranking the throttles up.....I don't know for sure but I am thinking doing that with the rotor brake on might produce the effect he is referrering to.

Thats interesting....I ordered mine on the 30th with a credit card and it said it was pending confirmation of payment for almost two weeks, now its been saying "Preperations for the dispatch" for almost a week. I wish I had gone the download route but I had a lot of trouble figuring out how to do this order. I know I am probably spoiled because the standard for most US companies now is same/next day shipping, but this seems to be taking a long long time. :( The Western version may be out before this one gets here. Or at least the demo hopefully. MD
-
Did you take the rotor brake off? Its worth downloading the high res producers note vids rather than watching the youtube ones, you can see much much better exactly what wags is doing in them. Good luck, I am still waiting for the Russians to ship my Shark. :-( MD
-
My qpig order has taken three weeks so far and has not shipped yet. It has said "Prperation for dispatch" for the past several days, before that it said "complete" for a couple days, and then for two weeks before that it was "pending confirmation of payment". I am hoping when it does ship that the Russian postal system is faster than the retail stores. :-( MD
-
Same thing here. Mine still says its awaiting confirmation of payment even though they hit my credit card the same day. Several e-mails to them have gone unanswered. It sucks that we have to go through all this. MD
-
Well, the two copies I ordered through qpig nearly a week ago still say "Pending Confirmation of Payment".....although they hit my credit card the same day. This kinda sucks!
-
I ordered the Russian version but haven't gotten it yet. I will also buy the US version when it comes out, and I would love to have the option to buy a nice printed looseleaf manual like the old Falcon one.....hopefully in time this stuff will all come to pass. I think its too bad for ED they couldn't get this out in the western markets before Christmas though...I think thats going to cost them sales in the long run. MD
