Right now, probably comment from Devs would dispel any doubts.

Now with all that data, my conclusion is as follows. Dcs mosquito has stop at 14lbs for 2850rpm combat mode and range 14-18 lbs require 3000rpm. So you can safely operate engines at 2850rpm. But for take off rpm levers always full on regardless how much boost. Apparently mosquito throttles stop was rigged differently throughout production.
-
@J13 Serenity can you post screen shot of your manual then, because i can't see this in my manuals.
-
@J13 Serenity But manual says it clear that in case merlin 25 at stop we should get 12 lbs boost not 9 lbs. You may be right that initial "stop" purpose was as you say but in time this could get changed.
-
It could be that 14lbs max(emergency) power from merlin 23 went to merlin 25 as military power so this stop gate is for to hit that 14lbs, and old 14lbs become 18lbs limit. But why DCS mosquito is setup like this 14lbs instead 12lbs i am not sure and as far as i checked DCS manual does not mention about this throttle stop and achievable boost at stop.
-
From your manual, Merlin 25 engines gives +12lbs boost at stops and +18 lbs when full forward if you read carefully. Max power -Merlin 25- 18lbs at 3000rpm / 12lbs at stop -Merlin 23- 12lbs at 3000rpm and with boost control cut-out pulled 14lbs Not avaivable in Merlin 25 / 9lbs at stop for take off 3000rpm even at 9lbs boost. Climb power +9lbs at 2850 for both engines
-
DCS mosquito is powered by 2 merlin 25s So it should give 12lbs at stop and 18 full forward.
-
There is some inconsistent in those manual, because in warbirds you never take off and climb with same power settings. I would say that detent is to make it easier for pilot to not exceed take off power and climb is done at 2850rpm and 9 boost. To set 2850rpm on the ground you would need to run up engine with rpm lever full forward to 3000rpm then with rpm lever drop it to 2850rpm rather erratic procedure i would say.

Because with some exceptions DCS is focused on combat, so devs focus is to bring war planes. Imho probability that we will get one of unlimited class P-51 in DCS is near 0.

Any tips for dogfighting / manouvering?
grafspee replied to Viceman's topic in DCS: Fw 190 A-8 Anton
You have to utilize boom and zoom tactics. Unless enemy is unaware of your presence or is badly damaged avoid turn fight at all cost. Fw190 is the worst sustaine turn fighter in DCS even mosquito will out turn you. So tactics is to always perform sudden attacks prefably from above at high speed on unaware enemy plane. 4 x 20mm cannon setup will wreck anything even with split second burst. This tactic require patience, dyscipline and good gun skill. It is quite hard to pull it off. -
This was nightmare for me at begging, mixture, gun safety. I removed binds for emergency rich, and i put mixture cut off and run only to my hotas same with gun safety. Since then no accidental mixture or gun safety change.

Good point, but p-47 razorback had 8 of them right ?

P-51 B/C would deliver even more pain for axis fighters, since B/C were noticeable faster
-
@Doughguy I would not hold aft stick until 100mph in TF-51, this one lifts off at 90mph. TF-51 much lighter. @SketchFrenk I would try to apply a little bit stick forward but not too much, to gain 110-120 and then slowly pull it back. like @Art-J siad your description doesn't provide any particular information other then, you could take off yesterday and now you can't. It could be controls problem, it could be wrong configuration for take off, and many other things. But my first though is that you are lift stalling this TF-51, so go easier on stick during take off.
-
Dogfight at 30k ft in warbirds looks like ballet in slow motion. You need to steer stick with one finger not to stall out of the sky.

@Nedum My question was why ED made P-51 near perfect and K-4 totally opposite? What was the logic there?
-
But engage method is different. In K-4 you have extra forward movement on throttle probably you would need noticeable more force to enter this throttle position. In K-4 engine will go to MW50 power settings regardless MW-50 switch position, and this is very dangerous. Max throttle is 1.45ATA and 2600rpm when you push throttle pass stop gate engine will run up to 1.8 and 2800rpm which can be used only with MW50 at high alt you can use 1.8/2800 without MW50 but i can't remember exact alt. In D-9 when you engage mw50 it will bypass engine boost regulator and it will add more boost, boost gain will differ on which supercharger gear you are and your alt. In D-9 you don't get increased engine rpm, and if your mw50 switch is off you can operate throttle with full range, because increased ATA is only obtainable via mw50 switch.
-
Hard to answer, depends how you handle engine through out whole flight. From my experience i could boost up to 70" for couple minutes as long carb and oil temp stayed at safe range, engine didn't suffer any failure withing 20min after use. I haven't tested if for longer periods.

An in depth look at engine management in the Mustang
grafspee replied to Diesel_Thunder's topic in DCS: P-51D Mustang
Since cooling update you just flip to AUTO control and you just forget that those even exist. -
I remember guy who flew P-51 rated DCS and other simulations for realism and i remember that he said that trim in P-51 works as should in DCS. Question, why suddenly K-4 would have messed up trimming system ? Why make one module near perfect and other light years from realism as many say it is ?

need proper report My list of possible bugs in DCS Mosquito
grafspee replied to J13 Serenity's topic in Bugs and Problems
@Bozon Yeah you are totally right XVI was B so it was Bomber. Nevertheless my point still stands, Mosquito in DCS faces foes with much higher performance then it was in RL and this is why Mosquito isn't up to what is told about it. -
Confusing description about MBG emergency mode handle in manual
grafspee replied to dcn's topic in DCS: Fw 190 D-9 Dora
@kablamoman Yes you are right. In some cases DCS's manuals looks like mixed pieces of information often not 100% accurate. Every time i converse with @Yo-Yo or other ED stuff i am asked to refer only to original documents and not to DCS's manuals. -
need proper report My list of possible bugs in DCS Mosquito
grafspee replied to J13 Serenity's topic in Bugs and Problems
Mosquito will never be able to outrun almost anything because most common Axis plane, which you can meet in DCS are Bf-109 K-4 and Fw190 D-9 which has similar performance to P-51 in terms of speed. And P-51 is much faster then mosquito no doubts. In war time K-4 and D-9 were the least common planes which can be meet in air. And a lot slower or similar performance planes were extremally common on Axis side. Even pilots operating while K-4s and D-9 were in use, they still got very slim chance to meet those in air. And in Twin engine group mosquito probably could out run anything, and we need to consider numerous Mosquitos variants used during the war with very different top speeds. Other thing is why Devs made decision and model quite early Mosquito when Axis side has very late war fighters. Why not make Mosquito MK XVI with merlin 76/77 engine with +1700hp each and top speed much higher. Why not just wrap late war planes set and move to early years, this thing i will never understand, makes no sense for me. I am member of this forum for quite time, i saw a lot topics about P-51 being not as fast as pilot's statements and common knowledge. Same thing here, P-51 D was later version before there was Allison powered P-51A which was fast as devil low to med alt then was P-51B/C powered by licenced build Merlin engine by Packard V-1650-3 and later converted to -7 engines and then D version with bauble canopy and other improvements like stronger tail control surfaces and changed angle of incidence of horizontal stab to prevent porpoising effect in high speed dives. P-51 A and B/C were much faster then Axis planes and from those encounters common knowledge tells us that P-51 was much faster and it is truth. K-4 and D-9 was axis response to allied planes like P-51 and other to match their performance. And here we are in DCS for decade player in P-51D (which is actually a bit slower then older variants like B/C because bauble canopy takes couple miles from top speed ) could only meet the state of the art K-4 and D-9 the least common planes in wartime and the only planes in DCS from axis side which in some aspects surpasses P-51. And impression is complete opposite to common knolage. -
What would happen if we could trim K-4 further nose down? As things are now K-4 has significant problems with pulling high G at high speeds, by having more nose down trim you could set up the plane that way, that you could not pull any G at all.

Do I have to use a 1080 resolution? Absurd.
grafspee replied to Predator-78's topic in DCS: The Channel
Like i said, matter only resolution vs screen size, if you have small monitor and high resolution it will have very small pixels. How many inches your monitor has ?? If you have typical size 3440x1440 screen which is 34.14 inch it renders pixel size 0.232mm in my case i have 3840x 2160 resolution and screen size is 47.6" which renders 0.275mm pixel which is bigger and easier too see. This mods probably changes initial size from 1 pixel to 2 pixels but this affect all res across, it will make easier to spot high res but it will make even more easier to spot at lower res.
