1. From all the reviews I have read I would not choose to go with the Evil Empire's TrackIR either....and go with TrackHat. I know one thing I don't want to be restricted to wearing large headphones when I don't need them and prefer the idea of wearing a ballcap instead.
2. That's close but not it. I was asking about a new invention altogether. I think the current head tracking system should be retired for the next generation of technology. I already knew about every head tracking device available already mentioned here except the one that is used through a phone. That one has promise.
3. I tried that but then I had the problem of where to mount the monitor without a desk. You see, I'm not like you guys who have a special area set up with desks and in a comfortable swivel chair. I'm on a couch and my head is probably a lot closer to the screen. The laptop is on a Logitech N700 lapdesk with fan and speakers but always moving to some small degree even when not being intentionally moved.
4. Good! ....But we are talking about something else here so read the first post.
5. No, Actually, the point of a laptop is to be compact compared to a desktop, not compact compared to another laptop. And that is where the state of laptop marketing is at unfortunately. Maybe YOU have been using Trackir for years with no problems and that's fine.....but the topic at hand here is not YOU. It's ME and MY circumstances. And I don't use a desktop, as was mentioned in the first post; and the root of what this is all about. There is a lot of room for invention here, btw. For instance, as I fist said. To have the built-in webcam in the computer used instead of an external camera. No extra cables needed no USB ports wasted. Whoever invents that with equal usability to Trackir or Delan or TrackHat will make a fortune.
6. All these comments lead me back to my original question - Why can't someone invent an entirely different system of head tracking. The most promising seem to be ones using your phone but it still needs tweaking. The phone needs to be plugged in to something. The phone needs to be attached to a 1/4 inch thick laptop lid. The trend in laptops has reached ridiculous. Every company bragging about how small and how lightweight they made theirs Those are the last things I could care less about! I don't want one that has all the components crammed in it, so you can't work on it. I'd rather it to be sturdy and fat and heavy with over a 17" screen So now gaming laptop companies are making the bezel around the screen smaller on a 17" to make it overall smaller, I guess so snowflakes can carry it somewhere without hurting themselves. Some, like Ausus are leaving out the webcam so the bezel can be small. That's if you can find 17" laptops these days. Point is: A narrow bezel makes TrackIR's legs hang over the screen obstructing your view.
7. This has been happening to me periodically too on a pretty new laptop. A week old when it started) Sometimes starts up normally. Sometimes I give up trying after a bunch of times. Deleting ImageShop folder did nothing. But pinning a new shortcut from the DCS folder to the Start worked. I'll let you know if that was a fluke ............if it turns out.
8. Not everyone in the real world does air refueling well all the time! An F-35B fighter jet crashed in Imperial County, California after colliding with a KC-130J aircraft on Tuesday afternoon Collision occurred while the F-35B was being refueled by the tanker mid air The F-35B somehow ended up hitting the tanker, causing it to crash to the ground and burst into flames Pilot managed to escape and parachute to safety - he is being treated for injuries KC-130 ended up making an emergency landing in a field near Thermal, California https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-8787283/Pilot-crew-F-35-fighter-jet-parachute-safety-colliding-C130-Hercules-aircraft.html
9. Well, even if it won't clamp tight at a 1/4 inch I suppose I can place a chunk of Styrofoam against the lid to make it clamp better. I wonder if anyone has tried that. I actually have a few pieces of Styrofoam for such an occasion as that.
10. Will the Track IR5 camera fit snugly onto a screen that is only 1/4 inch thick?
11. That's looks quite good! .... I didn't notice and real latency either. How do I get or make one for Android?
12. Yup...this is the one that Grim Reaper reviewed. He said its not worth giving up is DelanClip for. It's 10 bucks. It has no USB connection, so you are on phone battery. And there's no way to mount it on a laptop. Same problem. However, It might be worth jury-rigging a way to get it on a laptop if my phone is good enough to use and they finally develop the USB connection.
13. yeah I read the reviews for an Android version of that and the consensus was that while it was good it wasn't worth giving up a headtracker for. Plus they had not developed a way to plug it in to your USB port. So it ran on the phone's battery. The Kinotracker looks like it has pretty bad latency from demo.
14. I'm thinking further out there than those ideas. All these headtrackers use some kind of Infrared of Ultra light or something don't they? The lens of the PS3 lens is then modified with a filter so that it picks up the light from the head set. There has to be another way. One that can use the webcam that comes with any laptop and that doesn't need the filter.
15. ED Tracker used the old PS3 though doesn't it? ...So far as I know no one has come up with a way to clamp those cameras onto a skinny laptop lid without making it into some abortion job. Face-tracker is old tech and it's crap. Tobii.......Haven't ever heard of that one. I'll go take a look at it. er.............doesn't look promising!
16. Tech is constantly advancing! It's been a few years now that headtrackers have been available. Isn't it time that someone invented a BETTER headtracker device? There is no reason why one still should have to mount a clunky PS3 camera onto a monitor. First off, they are unstable when mounted usually and second, too clunky to mount on a laptop lid without jury rigging it and making a mess. Either invent a better PS3 camera that will fit on a laptop or make them so they can EFFECTIVELY use the camera in the Laptop lid. Just wondering if anyone has solutions to this.
17. Stop me if you've heard this one before........It's just so.....beautiful!
18. If I want to know something I go straight to Youtube first. If I need to know more I watch a different guy's tutorial. I don't go to Wags videos first because it seems he leaves out something important.
19. About 30 FPS is all I was getting on my last card which was a GTX 1050 in a laptop but I never played around with my Nvidia settings that much. On this laptop with a GTX 1660ti I've messed around with the Nvidia settings a bit more. A couple of days ago I was getting 80 on carrier deck to 125 in the sky flying. Just changed the settings again after watching yet another youtube tutortial this time got pretty nice picture but fps dropped to 52 on the carrier deck and 82 or so while in the sky. I'm no expert but I think that should be enough fps. I think this laptop has a native resolution same as yours 1920x1080 but haven't figured out how to check that in Nvidia. I couldn't find that option.
20. Thanks for helping me know how to choose an upgrade in HOTAS. I don't even bother anymore, attempting AAR, with my current setup. An Extreme 3D Pro stick with a T Flight X throttle. I've been researching a new HOTAS setup for months now.....and I'll probably wait to buy now, until the Corona-Hoax price gouging goes back down. It's hard enough even to line up for a carrier landing. In fact, lately if I go to Multiplayer, I am finding myself choosing an F18 carrier slot and just circling the carrier for landing practice...lol! So, I quit Multiplayer for the time being and have a created for myself a really nice supercarrier mission in Persia designed for landing practices ....and various weapon practice if I feel so inclined. ...Oh and it also has an option for AAR included in it. So far after 100s of landings I have only made one landing that was not a "C" LSO. So the answer to the OP is "No, I can not AAR" ...and attempting to, at this point, is even more time wasting as me trying to pass basic training on Arma 3.
21. Thanks for that input because putting the correct files into my new PC didn't go as smoothly as I thought it would. Later on, I will try again with your information.
22. I tried ordering this VKB Gladiator NXT and it turns out Ali-Express doesnt have them and they are impossible to to find right now in Australia (where just happen to be held political prisoner at the moment by the Authoritarian Communist Australian Police State) I also speak Russian so I went to the Russian VKB website to see if I could have one shipped from there and they are back ordered. I think the only way to get one of these to Australia is to risk ordering one through the US VKB web portal and have it shipped from China to a USA address and then have it repackaged and mailed to Australia as personal effects. However, there may be a kosher way to order one from USA using a program by Australia Post called Shopmate. But again I think there will be hefty double shipping charges using that.
