  1. That would (might) work. Don't suppose you could point me at it, could you?
  2. How about using a regular magnet which is gripping by default. The release button simply mechanically moves the magnet(or metal rail) a little to break the grip. Get the lever where you want it, release the button and the magnet grips again...
  3. My test mission shows that oil rigs etc *are* destructible. They just need a lot of hits. And they don't change appearance which is annoying...
  4. That would have been fantastic. But unfortunately, no, it doesn't work now. Thanks for the thought though :)
  5. I know, it sounds nuts. But the logic is sound, I promise. I'm writing a campaign along similar lines to Jackal but updated. At one point I want to have a shipping strike mission (it fits in the story arc well) and need to give the target ship some air defence. I really want to stick a couple of MANPADS on board, but of the course the editor won't allow me to place MANPADS on what it sees as water... I'm pretty sure there's something simple, but if someone could point me at it that would be brilliant. As an aside, is it also possible to make static objects destructible? I'm thinking of, say, hitting an oil platform with a cluster of 120mm rockets (which would certainly spoil their day in the real world) Thanks and Happy New Year
  6. Hi. Firs of all, Mr Quirkitized, thank you for a lot of hard work. I love what you've done here :) Running DCS 2.5.5 and everything seems to work...except Mission 4 the Uzi W and E choppers arrive but nothing happens after - the troops don't deploy and nothing blows up so I can't complete the mission. As for the rest, though, it's absolutely brilliant. I love everything going on around and the chance that your own ground forces will neutralise the threat before you do (or, indeed, that they won't...)
  7. Hi all, I'm in the middle of writing a novel where the main character is a Brit pilot flying the Ka-52 (if you want to know how that comes about you'll need to read it). I just want to understand the Russian equivalent of our 9-line and authorisations in the event that we get some ground support to help him find targets. (It's a long and messy story) Anyone able to oblige? Thanks, Simon
  8. I don't think it's the smoke, more likely the big slug of turbulence that might cause a compressor problem. Just applying pilot logic - I don't know one way or the other.
  9. Perspective. Back in the day we paid a shedload of money for "Falcon" then we paid again for "Falcon EGA" (though Microprose discounted it for existing owners) then a real massive shedload for Falcon 3.0 and again for Falcon 4. All the same aeroplane with little or no real enhancement between the first two versions or the last two except improvements to graphics and some campaigns. Did we mind? No, not really, because at the time there wasn't another decent F-16 simulator. In fact there wasn't really another decent military flight sim, and over the years we all recognised that development had to be paid for.. I don't see any difference here. There isn't another decent helicopter simulator out there, and, as has been pointed out lots of times, we've had 10 years out of BS2. Most of the time it's been bloody good - it's only with the new DCS that we've had bugs - and if we get a new release with everything working better and all those infuriating bugs fixed (plus campaigns that work properly and yes, some aircraft enhancements) then I'm happy. Again, back in the Falcon world Falcon 3 suddenly gave us a slew of new weapons (all real) and therefore lots more tasking options. Plus the aircraft was a later block so we had better electronics, radar modes etc. I'd like to see the same.
  10. Su-33 or 35 (I forget which) was supposed to have tube launched rearward firing Archers... Dunno if anyone ever showed that they were real or whether it was Intelligence telling us there was a bogeyman. I do know for certain that 135degree off-boresight launches are within envelope using HMS
  11. OK, but why now? What's changed?
  12. Hi Ian, I'd agree with you except that it isn't the problem. Both the CPU and GPU are well within specs and run much heavier duty applications for much longer without issue. I can start the computer from cold, go straight into Ka-50 and have the freeze happen within 10 minutes of the power coming on. Or I can sit there all day running high-end video rendering and real-time subtitling and it doesn't miss a beat or even get hot. But I appreciate the suggestion and I'll rerun some monitoring tools to make certain. Cheers, Simon
  13. Thanks for that. All the internal drives are SSD already. I use a discrete 128Gb drive for the pagefile so it doesn't have to share resources with application or OS calls. It's also on its own SATA channel. I can go to 32Gb, but I rather feel I shouldn't have to - before this update the game was running just fine. Now it isn't, and that's not right.
  14. Bug description: Flying normally and all is fine with decent FPS etc then the game will freeze completely for 30 sec or so. Sound carries on as normal. No key inputs have any effect and do not appear to buffer. PC fan goes up to max for the duration of freeze. When it unfreezes the game continues as though nothing has happened - nothing pressed during the freeze has any effect - and fan drops to normal. Repeats every 3-5 minutes. Steps to reproduce / Conditions of occurrence Random times flying in campaign "Republic". Haven't tried anywhere else yet. PC Configuration i7 with 16Gb and 2x512Gb SSD. GTX1070/4Gb. Windows 10 with all latest patches. Nothing else running except Saitek to program the FCS. Hardware firewall, no AV. Nothing has changed in the few weeks except the latest DCS release.
  15. I'm actually getting the game running perfectly smoothly...and then freezing for 20-30sec. Sound carries on and when it unfreezes everything works fine for another 3-5 minutes. Then it repeats. Oh, and the CPU fan goes up to full chat while it's frozen, then drops back to virtually silent again. This is on Ka-50, which is the only thing I currently fly. PC is an i7 with 16Gb, 2x512Gb SSD, Nvidia 1070GTX. Nothing else running except the Saitex stick programmer in the background, which hasn't changed.
  16. Any third parties working on a Wessex? Please?
  17. And the answer is... Land on the right spot on the FARP! (Actually land on the centre one, NOT the right one...) Mission accomplished.
  18. I'm 100% certain that the NVGs *do* work in this mission...but you have to request them. Even though you're on the runway. Call up the radio, select ground crew then request NVG (or something like that). Default for the radio is \ I believe. Sorry if that comes across as being an arse. Not intended that way. HTH
  19. Hi, So I've been flying BS since it came out and have pretty good handle on flying and fighting the aircraft. Apart from making wingmen do *anything* useful, that is. My problem is this. I've reached this mission and flown it 20-30 times. Not once have I managed to complete it successfully, even when I've cheated, made my aircraft immortal and with unlimited weapons and fuel. I killed every single thing in the town and around the FARP, Landed on the FARP and watched the assault group drive past without taking a single casualty, and *still* the sodding thing didn't come up with a success flag. Tell me, please. Has *anyone* managed to successfully complete this mission? And if so, what am I doing wrong? I looked in ME and can see the success trigger and would swear I was parked in the middle of it...
  20. Plus one on this (and bump) Trying to build missions and giving objectives to (for example) stop an insurgent attack on a particular vehicle is very hard when the insurgents can drive straight through other traffic which might slow them down... You also can't stop civilian traffic by, say, parking a T80 across the road ;) It's not a huge thing I know but it spoils the immersiveness (is that a word?) rather.
