  1. The feedback is much appreciated and I'd be interested to hear how you think it compares with the Index. I was chatting to someone who has both and (surprisingly) found the clarity pretty similar - he put it down to superior lenses and better IPD adjustment on the Index. I personally have an Odyssey+ at present and am holding out for the Reverb for a while so that HP can fix their quality issues. Plus the fact they are as rare as hen's teeth here in the UK at present.
  2. Does anyone posting here actually have a Reverb? I'd value your comments over the general speculation.
  3. Hi Devrim. I'm looking forward to using the Viggen English cockpit mod but am not having success installing. Is there a readme instruction file that I'm missing? Currently I copied your AJS37 folder to to c:>users>myname>saved games>dcs>mods>aircraft>AJS37 and have your three folders - cockpits, liveries and textures in there. Is that correct? Thanks for your help Update: Hold on - just found the readme file. I imagine it's all in there. Thanks - don't know why it didnt come up immediately though.
  4. I've yet to usefully lock up a target with the F-5's radar. Even when I can see it in front of me (which isn't often since I use VR and spotting is abominable). The radar seems to be even more blind than the VR.
  5. As usual the Chuck's Guide for the F-5E is excellent. But does anyone know where I can get the full flight manual? The Belsimtek site get's rejected by my PC as being unsafe.
  6. I passed the mission with an a version of your suggestion: I was not smart enough with the mission editor to remove the trees (I'm sure it's possible though) but simply moved the gates and approach path to the last gate so that it went through a gap in the trees slightly to the left of the suggested approach path. It increases the angle off to the final gate but removes the impossible yo-yo required with the trees in the way. I also note that, although you need to fly through all the gates, it does not require you to do each gate straight from the last one. You can muck about as much as you like between gates. So I reckon another method might be to do all the gates but the final one and then loop back after completing the penultimate gate. Then take the final gate at your leisure and from the non-tree angle. You might even be able to negotiate the last gate from the other, seaward side. Much much easier. Anyway, thanks for your suggestion. It got me there.
  7. I too have Vaicom but am finding it very difficult to get the correct responses. I seem to spend a lot of time shouting at Texaco to drop his boom and getting responses from some distant ATC guy (and many other similar issues). In addition voice commands are not great late at night when the rest of the family are asleep. Hence my desire for a clickable option.
  8. Indeed. And that's all I'm asking for. A green cross cursor clickable radio menu just like any of the cockpit buttons. The suggested radial Jester-style menu would be great if it was similarly VR friendly.
  9. That's not a bad idea. I too have Voiceattack and Vaicom so could add a few control words. Mind you, at present I'm having some issues with it but I need to get it all sorted. Thanks for the idea.
  10. As we all know, not all of DCS is flying around. Sometimes you need to go in to tweak control settings or play with the mission editor. Sometimes you would rather go in with a flat screen rather than the hassle of using VR. In which case a tick box when logging in to give one the option of each before starting would be most useful. At present I think one would need to open in VR, go into options, switch VR off and then restart.
  11. From the main page go to Settings (the cog wheel) and then Gameplay. It's a drop-down in the bottom left corner. It puts a small tick mark over a nearby unit but no other information.
  12. Great idea.
  13. How about an in-game pop up menu for some of the common gameplay commands? Finding pause, clicking on LShift-F2 for plane labels, etc is easy for a screen user but a buzz kill for a VR user. A simple bindable button to bring up an in game clickable menu for game commands would be a boon.
  14. Perhaps I'm doing this incorrectly but I can't find settings to use the communications menus clickable when in VR. At least, I can if I disable the mouse so I can't use it to position the mouse cursor and use the view centre VR dot only. But then I still need to select the menu item with the right mouse button anyway so I need my hand on the mouse but still can't use the mouse positioning. And then using the viewcentre dot makes it literally a pain in the neck to be forced to adjust clickable cockpit controls - it's not as steady since you need to hold your gaze directly on the item and at the near ends of the consoles - like radios - you need to crane right over to get to them. Oh, and obviously using the F1-12 buttons for the comms menus is a no-no in VR. Am I missing something rather fundamental in the settings? Surely it can't be so difficult to be able to use the mouse positioning in VR for the communications menus? Actually ED really need to get a handle on VR-friendly use. There are several issues they need to get sorted to bring VR fully into the fold.
  15. I just discovered this option in the setup and it is indeed much better.
  16. Me too. I looked up on YouTube for clues as to how to complete the second bridge and all the videos showed them do it easily because there were no trees around the second bridge. They've obviously added the trees since. The only way I could complete it was to approach from a slightly different angle - but that meant missing out the penultimate gate and it did not recognize that I had completed both bridges (which was frankly rather bollocks). Has anyone actually done mission 8 with the bridges with the trees there around the second bridge. Frankly it looks pretty impossible since the trees are almost directly in front of the bridge so I'm inclined to ask for a video in proof.
  17. DCS in VR is awesome - but spotting things sucks. The alternative is to turn labels on but in VR they are HUGE and ruin the immersion. How about subtle spotting labels - perhaps just lighten the background when a unit is within visual range so that one knows something is there but can only notice if one is looking for it and not automatically knowing what it is.
  18. I tried Velcro - the huge industrial stuff - but it wasn’t enough. The Velcro itself is fine but the sticky backing eventually peels loose. But I found a better solution: On the x56 both the throttle and the stick have screw-sized channels on the four corners of the base. So you can pass eight screws (m4 60mm if my memory serves me - but best check) through without damaging the bases and then firmly attach them to a decent piece of wood. I cut a nice bit of pine board, varnished it and clamp that down to secure the HOTAS setup. That way you can lift it all in one secure bit and stick it in a cupboard when the missus complains about horrible computer equipment cluttering up the desk.
  19. I’ve found similar. If I get a new plane and want to use pretty much the same key map as an existing one, I can’t just open up the old map and rename and save it attached to the new plane. It simply opens up rather corrupted. So I wonder if each map is saved down for a specific plane on a specific PC.
  20. I bought the X56 with a little trepidation but so far (2 months) I’d give it 8/10. But I do have one annoyance: one or two of the toggle switches will occasionally fire without being pressed. But the weird thing is that makes me question whether it really is just the sticks fault, it’s mainly the gears switch or the external view that triggers. None of the others. It also doesn’t seem to happen in Elite Dangerous. So I’m wondering if it isn’t some funky game and stick compatibility issue. Does anyone else get this. Bloody annoying though - you’ll be busy prosecuting a target and your landing gear lowers. At speed of course it damages them so can give you real issues.
  21. Thanks to everyone for the suggestions and sorry for the late response - I’m travelling at present. When I get back I’ll test your suggestions and am sure I’ll find they work.
  22. Hi Firecat. And another one for the list please. Thanks. Quentin Manley MrShooty
  23. Any tips for handling radio communications in VR? With the communications menus unmouseclickable in VR (it's a word - look it up) it's proving limiting. Is Vaicom Pro my only option?
  24. I've just bought the streamdeck mini. I use VR and finding the keyboard is a struggle so with just 6 keys on the mini it is easy to find the right one blind. Most key bindings work. But for some reason Pause does not register with DCS. Any thoughts?
