  1. Perfect, that did it! To explain, the stepper motor spindle passes through the last zero on my gauge face, with the last two zeros laser engraved on the front. I thought initially that I could just hide some of the OLED behind the gauge face, but I miscalculated. Knocking off the two zeros lets me position the OLED correctly. I'm super impressed with Middlefart's code, it looks fantastic and adds that extra bit to the whole thing. Thanks a million to everyone on this Cheers Les
  2. Just a quick question - if I want to remove the two last zeros, what bit of the code addresses them? I may have painted myself into a corner with the positioning of the stepper motor, so may have to move the OLD display to the left a bit Cheers Les
  3. Well, got the new OLED display, and the sketch works perfectly straight out of the box. Clearly the one I had needs a completely different set of sketches. Thanks again fro providing this, I now have a very cool looking altimeter reading! Cheers Les
  4. Ok, I will get one and try it, I will need another anyway for the fuel quantity indication so it won't be wasted Cheers Les
  5. Here you go. It looks like the OLED is displaying the characters too wide, so they are overlapping. Maybe by not displaying the last two zeros it will fit, the two missing zeros can be added to the gauge face. I'd still be interested in knowing how to reduce the text width though ***Edit**** I am convinced that the OLED that I am trying to use is the cause of my errors on this, rather than your code. I can play around with the code and I can improve it, but I have come to the conclusion that the OLED's I have from Buydisplay use a different coding and library set. If nothing else, everything is displayed back to front, mirror style . Can I ask you what the OLED module you have is? Was it purchased from anywhere in particular? I would like to get one to try it out, as I think it will same me a load of hassle. My ones are the 0.91 in versions, the one in the video looks larger (maybe 2.2 inch?) Cheers Les
  6. Hi there again Finally back with my rig and tried out your sketch, and it works, I can see the text and it scrolls nicely. However the OLED panel I am using must be slightly different, as there is a wrapping effect, presumably where the text size is too big for my OLED I'm using a 128 x 32 pixel display from Buydisplay. Is there a way to reduce the character size within the sketch, or is that set but the Characters.h file? Cheers! Les
  7. I can have a good look at all the suggestions, unfortunately work means I have to be away from the rig during the week. However, there are quite a few suggestions to pursue in the replies, so I'll go through them one by one and feed back if I find anything Thanks for all the replies everyone Les
  8. Guys, when taxiing and on takeoff rolls the aircraft pulls to the right with the pedals centred. Is there a way of adjusting nosewheel trim to counter this? Cheers Les
  9. Hi there I am using and have used the Bodnar boards very effectively for many years, latterly on my A10C cockpit build but formerly with car sim stuff. You can have issues with them being set up wrongly though, if any on the inputs are set to rotary encoder input settings, they really mess you around. There are some setup programs on the bodnar site especially for this, I advise you at least take a look as it is a free download Check out the Encoder configuration software on this page http://www.leobodnar.com/shop/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=94&products_id=205 Also you may want to try making sure that you have updated the firmware for the individual boards, I had one that gave me some issues until I did that. As far as I am concerned they are pretty bullet-proof, so I think that where you can use them they offer a great solution. Cheers Les
  10. Fantastic, this was the subject of a question I asked on another thread, as this is a way of testing my hardware and also for gauges being able to quickly calibrate. If you can run it on a different PC without installing DCS that would be the icing on the cake for me, as my rig is not the easiest place to test things. Its too singular in purpose, so a single test of a part can take five minutes, which as you can imagine with fault finding, calibration or development can be reiterative. You can be sure that I will try it as soon as I am back, and i'll feed back how I get on. If if find any issues, what's the best way to input that, PM or on here? I'm set on being constructive about this as it's a tool / feature I've been hankering for Cheers Les
  11. That sounds great. Im not at home for the next few days, but would like to know if this works with gauges using stepper motors too Cheers Lex
  12. Thanks. I actually got all those working, but the ASI is not one that Helios apparently can deal with Next week I'll have a bash with Ikarus, hopefully I can get that set up like I have Helios currently, but with the ASI Cheers Les
  13. I believe Helios may be able to do that, by making a .jpg and positioning it using the monitor setup. If you search there is a folder with various library files of the guage faces, and if you use a graphic editor to make your own and save it in there, you should be able to select it and put it anywhere you want on the desktop Cheers Les
  14. Thanks! I look forward to giving it a go. The instruments I intend to show are:- the two MFCD's, which I assume I can leave up to MonitorSetup.lua, currently working well Attitude indicator and HSI - currently on Helios, I assume I just recreate these in Ikarus, I will have to see how to assign the attributes and so forth as I did for Helios. I have to confess that I guessed as it as I couldn't find any list or tutorial showing how each gauge is set up. (Mostly ) seems to work though. RWR - after a bit of messing around the RWR is a combo of the Helios bezel and MonitorSetup.Lua for the moving bits, again I will have to see how to do that. Airspeed indicator - this is currently supposed to be on the same 7" LCD monitor as the RWR but I've singularly failed to do so, so as per the point of this thread this is hopefully the panacea. The only other outstanding item will be the standby attitude indicator, which I was hoping to use a 3.5" TFT screen for but suspect is incompatible with Ikarus due to it being an Arduino version. I may have to source a separate little LCD screen for that but presume ikarus can deal with that. Everything else is a physical gauge or instrument so I hope that I have everything covered! Thanks again for your help, you'll probably get a load of questions! Cheers Les
  15. Ok, thanks. I worked Helios out after a few false starts, hopefully Ikarus is self-explanatory Cheers Les
  16. Thanks, does Ikarus play nicely with Helios? Cheers Les
  17. Guys, I think that all I need is confirmation of what I believe, the A10c airspeed indicator cannot be exported onto a separate monitor using MonitorSetup. Lua, correct? I am stuck with trying to get the Helios version to work if I am to get a virtual instrument Cheers Les
  18. For me to do it, you will have to wait until after the 24th, as I won't have access to my Solidworks PC until then. Once I'm in front of it, half an hour will do and I can get them done, but I have no way to do it before then, sorry about that. Cheers Les
  19. I was lucky, I was given an older version by a guy who was upgrading to a newer version compatible with Windows 7 (at the time) so that he could use the i-series intel CPU based PC's with their vastly more powerful processing power. For an old engineer like me, Solidworks is so easy to use, it sort of fits with the way I think. Fusion 360 is on my pc, but to this day I have been unable to make one usable part on it. The problem is that I simply can't get my head around the (in my opinion) vastly over complicated assembly concepts, so whatever I design stays as a single part that cannot be checked in an assembly. The online tutorials are done by people who know how to use it but generally are not any good at explaining why things are done, so the concepts and philosophies of asemblies remain a mystery. On the other hand I can very quickly design a very complicated assembly in Solidworks, and now i am proficient with Qcad and CAMBAM, I can go from concept to actual physical part in what for me is an astonishingly short time. Of course, Solidworks has some very annoying and stupid issues you have to be wary of, and one of these is the need to use XP and so limit the power of the PC on which it runs. But by and large I'm able to work round these issues. I truly would like to be able to use Fusion360, as it's clearly capable of so much. But until someone can sit with me to go through those various parts that completely defy me, it will remain a hard drive filler, albeit a free one Cheers Les
  20. Guys, unfortunately (at least from my experience) fusion360 gave me problems when trying to convert .sldprt files. Certainly any assembly failed miserably, and even part files ended up with weird errors. In the end, despite having to keep an old pc running XP just to run Solidworks (mines the 2008 version), I gave up on fusion 360 as it simply didn’t work for me. Solidworks is by no means perfect, but for certain things it is just so simple to use, and converting a part file to an .stl file is as simple as clicking on 'save as'. None of the files I have ever created have been corrupted and my Lulzbot mini has printed them with no problem. Nonetheless, I acknowledge that there are some very competent guys on this forum who can probably make it work, but I am still happy to convert any files and post them here if that helps anyone. Cheers Les
  21. I'm currently away from home so won't be able to do anything until near the end of the month, but I have Solidworks and when I'm back I can convert the files to .stl files for you Cheers Les
  22. I've got quite a few Bodnar boards, I got them for the race car sim I built a few years ago, and I was lucky that none ever arrived damaged Having said that, looks like you got lucky in managing to have ones that were repairable, and from my experience with them they will do a great job. It's also heartening to see that their customer support is equally good Cheers Les
  23. Thanks, will take a look when I get back If it's a question of just extending the effective desktop in MonitoSetup.lua, I think I get it. I'm a bit puzzled as to why it appears on only one of two that are at the 'bottom' of the desktop, but hey, puzzled seems to be my default state of being these days! Thanks again for the help Les
  24. Thanks! I'm currently away from home on a short holiday, but you can bet that this will be one of the first things I get to when I'm back! How's the rest of your rig getting on? Cheers Les
  25. The one I tried was a direct download from the site onto my game rig, the A10C profile on this page http://www.captzeen.com/helios/downloads.asp I'm going on vacation for a few weeks so will have a break from beating my head against the DCS wall! Hopefully when I get back I will be reinvigorated and work it out Cheers for the help as ever Les
