  1. We need a mix of russian and chinese weapons. Not only do they cancel out eachothers weaknesses, they provide more content to discover for the more casual community. Its more fun to learn how to employ 5 or 10 modern weapons instead of just one.
  2. Either the above, or a MKK/MK2 hybrid would be good. To at least reach or surpass the capabilities of the JF-17, the Su-30 needs either the Bars radar, or the PL-12. But just R-27/77 with a mech radar will be somewhat disappointing. If it seems weird from a simulation standpoint, it should not be. All the module devs in DCS interpret capabilities and weapons into their modules, that the real variant does not have. Including ED.
  3. Смотрите на последние ракеты в моих треках. Когда я перестал диполи бросать, -7 делает поворот и попадает. Р-27 это не делают. Или ушли за диполи, или нет. - AIM-7. New ground clutter model also applied to all AIM-7 family missiles.
AIM-7M_hit.trk
  7. 10.000м, против свободное небо, нормальная радиальная скорость: nomaneuvers_nonotch_lookup.trk
  8. Normal initial engagement. They will climb and press once you defend, and then its game over. Unless you have some modern fighters (F-16, JF-17 etc.) supporting. AI will launch at this distance.
  9. In the first one, they are outranged by AIM-120. In the second one, they all are defeated by countermeasures against the clear sky.
11. Youre talking about late 2000s MiG-29M/K (9.31/41?) For example, the Pastel RWR did not exist in 1990. Regardless, this old 29K was merely a prototype.
  12. ' Very similar level of technology. I dont think it even has fly by wire. Late 2000s MiG-29s are the ones we need in DCS to provide a good opponent. The other thing is that it never saw service or mass production.
  13. Same radar, same missiles, same avionics. I believe even same engines.
  14. AIM-120. Chaff bug - changed chaff/slow moving targets filtering logic, introduced ground clutter model, missile notching now depends on target/clutter signals ratio, range of blind velocities depends on geometry of intersection of seeker beam and ground. AIM-7. New ground clutter model also applied to all AIM-7 family missiles. When will these changes be applied to R-77 and R-27R/ER?
  15. Now that i learned that Su-30MKI can use its radar 100 degrees off boresight, im a bit disappointed we are getting the MK2. Not that its less effective, but supporting R-27ER while cold from bandits just sounds insanely funny.
  16. Head on is a different story, against F-16, F-18 and JF-17 you will not detect anything before youre dead to his missile. People always say IRST is overperforming, since clouds and flares should affect it (chaff should affect radars too), but the heat generated by high speeds is not modelled at all. At low air humidity and against the sky, OLS should spot a fighter much earlier than on the deck.
  17. Is it that low on Su-27? Once you have aircraft like JF-17 and F-16 that are not detectable until inside 10km, this means that Su-27 has the weakest set of close combat modes compared to all other 4th gens. Mostly since there is no such thing as PAL or wide aquisition.
  18. I said you need different tactics than just shooting first. It has nothing to do with superior/inferior. In DCS, the J-11A is either equal to (2v2) or even slightly superior to the F-15C (many vs many) in a 1990s arena. The Americans who flew against the indian Su-30MKI concluded that it was "a tad bit" superior to all their fighters except the F-22. They recall that on average, the Su-30 won more in the excercises they flew. The Su-30MKI, MKA, Su-30SM etc. have radars that have 100 degree gimbals off boresight. What that means is that they can support their missiles while beaming/slightly cold or notching, and can also scan in that spot. The Ukrainian air force uses exclusively soviet aircraft and missiles with some slight upgrades. A lot of their planes were lost in the civil war. That means theyre essentially flying 35-40 years older gear. Thats like compring a MiG-19 or 21 to a Super hornet. Unfortunately it is very unlikely that we will get a 2000s Su-30 with the Bars radar, and the best thing we can hope for is a Chinese Su-30. It may end up being as effective due to additional PL-12 capability, but its going to end up with DCS Flankers flying more like their american counterparts. A DCS Su-30MKI on the other hand adds even more unique tools to the already very diverse box of tools on Su-27s.
  19. For 1990s+ combat thats too simplified. Especially for flanker pilots. Its part of winning against AIM-120s, but not the whole truth and fully committing to that doctrine will end up getting your flight killed, against good opponents. AI is easily abusable by shooting any missile at them for reasonable close distance. Theyll abort any task theyre currently committed to and you can just kill them.
  20. How about R-77 with ability to launch silently on up to 4 targets, plus supporting an ER, possibly multiple ERs at the same time? With a radar that makes the ER dangerous up close? And a modern RWR? That sounds more like parity. If its a chinese Su-30, you´re probably getting PL-12s on top of all that. At that point parity with western 4th gens is not even discussable, at that point we´re talking about a sort of fighter that F-22s are supposed to counter. But there will never be parity between soviet versions of the flanker and 20 year newer weapons. Its a problem ED could easily solve with new AI units or an upgrade of FC3 aircraft, but a short look on Chizh (ED)´s forum post history will reveal why this is not happening.
  21. I recommend starting with SARH only combat, the Buddyspike 80s servers offer an environment with just the R and T version of R-27 against AIM-7s. SARH combat is the most simple and a very good thing to get started with, its indeed mostly about getting your opponent defensive and then pressing. After that, you should probably try out the PG/Syria Modern server from Buddyspike, it offers a mix of some 90s and some 2000s weapons. You will be fighting AIM-120Bs and only the MK47 variant of the phoenix, which is a decently fair environment for you to learn in. Its also not as mountanous, forcing you to come up with more reliable approaches than masking. Once you get comfortable with the AIM-120 ranges, you will find your main challenge to be differentiating F-14s and AIM-120 carriers. Its not easy all the time, but also adds an interesting amount of depth to the fight. Youll use clues like the length of his missile trail, human GCI, EWR reports, jammer behaviour, and SPO-15 strength (spoiler, F-18 radar shows up stronger than the F-14s). Only after that should you consider jumping in against 15-20 year newer stuff on unrestricted servers. The temptation on those is way too high to give up on normal tactics, and instead start hiding in mountains. And you wont learn a thing doing that.
  22. Debatable.
  23. That 8v8 is fair against 120Bs, though even a 2v2 is already winnable here. No against 120Cs and link16. It does not matter how many planes you add. They will break through your 8 ship with ease, and just preventively flaring a little bit will defeat any possible ETs. If you manage to solve that problem by running back to long range SAMs (probably failing whatever ovjective you had), their short range AIM-120C shots are still more deadly than you firing every single missile on your plane at them at once. And thats if they have to attack. If you have to attack and gain air superiority in their airspace... Good luck. I would not argue flankers benefit from more chaos. I think in general, planes with 15-20 years older missiles, radars and engines will benefit from chaos, since there is more room for "random" things to happen, mitigating the disadvantages. Think about it, what scenario would you pick as a MiG-21 pilot, 2v2 or 40 vs 40? But the superior aircraft can eliminate that factor with relatively low amount of organization, comparable to the level at which some real world squadrons operate. It would be a different story if DCS had 2000s Su-27 or Su-30. You would get more missiles, thrust vectoring, better radars to make those missiles more effective, better RWR, better archers, better actives (PL-12) and even better jammers than what the slammer busses have if ED ever models that in more depth. PS: ECM in DCS actually helps enemy player-flown F-16, F-18, F-14. Only use it against SAMs. Also, dont sneak in a group fight. If you have an opportunity, you can press with radar off, but you can not hide from multiple fighters in a spread.
  24. The 530D is a Razbam missile and works differently than the other ones. It has an extremely high chaff resistance, much higher than any semi active in the game, and probably even higher than AIM-120C. What makes up for it is the Mirages radar being relatively bad. So you can defeat it in look down where the Mirage radar gets defeated, but thats why youre seeing it never take chaff against the sky.
  25. Avionics and missiles, not maneuverability. They are the MiG-29Ks selling points and the reason why the MiG-29A is so disappointing, whether thats the current one in DCS or the 80$ version coming to DCS. A modern MiG-29K has everything that the current soviet DCS MiGs do not. I believe the old K that was in DCS might have been that 1980s prototype model that never made it into production or service.
