  1. No or almost no bindings for the Lights panel.

    No bindings for the radios.

No bindings for the TACAN and VORs

No bindings for NAV source selection, for heading and course.

Missing bindings for the depression dials.

Most of the bindings are just toggles and missing both ON and OFF bindings.

I've seen other posts asking for more bindings, but some seem to be old and have never been answered.

  2. In the first played mission (not the intro, but show of force), I keep getting Lua script error dialog boxes interrupting the mission. They don't break the mission, because I can just push enter key to move on, but they're very annoying, especially that I'm playing in VR, and initially didn't even notice that the game was frozen because of these error messages.

They occurred every time I blew up one of this train cars on which you're supposed to drop a laser guided bomb.

  3. Nothing seemed to improve the FPS in the F-4, but now that I increased my RAM to 64 GB, things are going much better. I have good fps, as good as with other planes.

I wish Heatblur stated that 64 GB RAM was the recommended specs for using the F-4, instead of 32GB.

Now that I have 64GB, all good, but if I hadn't intended to increase my RAM, my purchase of the F-4 would have been lost, since unusable.

  4. I'm not sure what's going on.

This weekend, I was doing more than an hour of Instant Action Free Flight over many maps (Caucasus, Persian Gulf, Syria, Sinai) and all went fine. Today, I wanted to try the Cold and Dark instant action on Caucasus, but I keep getting DCS crashes before I even reach the end of the startup procedure (reports were automatically sent by DCS after the crash).

For example, once it crashed before RPM could reach 60% (so at the very beginning). Another time was just after alignment.

Is it something known or that is specific to my computer setup?

  5. Granted I don't have a top end PC (i7-9700F@3GHz, 32 GB RAM and RTX 3070), but I can enjoy flying all my other planes in VR with decent initialization times and smooth FPS, even the most demanding like F-14, F-15E, AH-64D...

Before somebody ask, yes, I'm using DCS multi-threaded version.

Regarding settings, I'm using the default "VR" settings provided by DCS, so I would expect these are rather conservative settings.

After the very long initialization time before I can enter the F-4 cockpit and before all the textures are loaded, I have to add a good 1 to 2 minutes of slideshow with FPS averaging 10 fps. After that time, I can finally fly the F-4 with FPS oscillating between 20-40 FPS. That's OK to do some free flight, but else, I'm just sitting with a barely playable F-4 in my DCS hangar.

Hopefully, somebody here could help me find some settings to improve this situation... other than changing my PC, that would be awesome!

  6. Thanks to the author of this campaign! It's challenging, but I really enjoy it so far.

After 3 attempts, I finally finished mission 1. The last path of the route with the ILS landing was a bit stressful, because the runway was not visible until you're only 200 ft high! You really need to trust the ILS 🙂

The 2nd mission also took me at least 4 attempts. Had to find the quickest way to get the C-101 started. Actually it's not that complex. The hardest part was to shoot down the helicopter. The Mi-8 seems very tough. I don't remember how many missiles and gun rounds I shot and it was still running. The only way I could shoot it down was to sneak behind it and shoot a missile very close to it.

Next week, I'll go on with the next missions.

Possibly your UI is cutoff so much that you dont even see it at all.
This can happen with a certain settings combination in VR.

To fix that, select "Use DCS System Resolution", "BOTH EYES", pick a resolution that isnt too low (full hd for example) and reset any of our hb ui special options u might have messed with already. Then (mandatory) restart DCS for the changes to take effect.

In the meantime, ED is working on a fix for the underlying cause. Cheers

Tried that, but then I got a crash when opening an instant action with the F-4 😞

will wait for the fix from the underlying cause.

  8. On my computer the F-4 module is very hard on FPS.

Note that I'm in VR, but I don't have such issues with the other planes, including theTomcat or the Apache.

What would be the most important settings to help me get some FPS back specifically for the F-4? (already downgraded textures to medium, removed all shadows, no anti-aliasing, and reduced to lowest almost all other settings).

  9. Got the F-4 and wanted to do the 1st tutorial (starting the F-4).

At some point, you're asked to connect the external power.

Pressing the stick button I assigned to Jester doesn't do anything. Using key "A" on my keyboard doesn't do anything either.

Then I opened the COMM menu and wanted to do the same from the COMM menu, but the "connect external power" wants to open Jester, and nothing happens either.

Then I thought that it was a glitch in the tutorial. I tried the free flight mission, and no Jester either.

I'm wondering what I'm doing wrong here.

i think you should separate the kneeboards into smaller chunks. i personally only have a max of 10 or so. it forces me to get the basics, add a little muscle memory, and use the kneeboards for reminders. eventually i do not need the kneeboards.

sorry but i think you have reached the limits of what you are trying to do.

I understand what you mean and I agree once you know the plane enough, but when you're in the phase of learning a new plane, or learning again a plane you haven't flown for a while, it's good to have the Chuck's guide or DCS guide right in your cockpit and following the steps without constantly removing your VR headset or switching to another application you had pinned into your VR environment.

I saw that somebody from Ed Team picked this issue for internal analysis. That sounds great and I really hope they can find a quick fix for it.

  11. Is a track needed for this bug? I thought it would be easily reproducible.

I attached Chuck's L-39 guide as kneeboard pages, because I had to find the smallest guide that goes over 240 pages. You can easily reproduce this bug by dropping the content of this zip into the custom user kneeboard folder for the L-39.

Note that it's very low quality because I had to make the images small enough to fit into the 50 MB limit on this forum.

    L39SMALL.zip

  12. I'm playing DCS in VR and I like to have either the DCS Manual or the corresponding Chuck's guide for each plane converted into kneeboard pages.

Whenever the page count is lower than about 240, everything works fine.

If the page count is higher than about 240, then the kneeboard has a weird behavior:

    - up to page 242 of the kneeboard (including my pages and the default pages), everything is fine.

    - then from 242 to about 250, the kneeboard displays grey pages

    - then the kneeboard repeats the initial pages (for about 242 pages)

    - grey pages again

    - and repeat of the initial pages up to 3 times.

So the kneeboard could show about 800+ in its page count, but only actually shows about 242 pages + 10 grey pages, repeated several times.
