Is it possible to do an autorotation landing with the engines off and with a realistic amount of gas/weapons etc. and by the time the wheels touches the ground the horizontal speed should be 0 km/s. If so please upload a track file which shows how it's done (This is necessary if you make an emergency landing in rough terrain)

DCS: How to gain performance on Windows Vista (Windows 7)
eV1Te replied to eV1Te's topic in DCS: Ka-50 Black Shark
To clarify, when you change to the 8800gtx and have everything else the same the performance is better? If that's the case, have you checked the CPU usage with the new vs. the old GFX card? -
How do you mean give them permission? This was some Su-27 which had one waypoint 500 at meter altitude some 5 km before the target zone which included Ground units, buldings, etc.
-
For me the AI doesn't care if there are targets in Zone 1 (there only zone) if they havn't seen them before come to the next waypoint. It seems like the AI have to detect an enemy within there target zone, then they will engage. Otherwise they will just fly past that zone and on to the next waypoint. One example is that I put 3 ground-attack aircrafts flying over an enemy base with a target point covering the whole base, hoping that they would engage the enemy.. But no one did, they obviously didn't spot the ground units on the ground until they had flown past the base and then was shot down. The only what was to put a point target and manually select which enemy to attack.

I agree on these topics (getting out of the helo and walk around is not an priority for me) especially the multicore support.

What happens if you set it to one second for example? Does this turn of the tracking after one second or does it just stop saving the track to the hard drive? I mean does the game still go through the trouble of reading the coordinates of all the units during game play, which might have some impact on performance if turned off?
-
Interesting, I didn't notice that, I will re check and see if it's the same for me... But still I hope ED fixes the issue what ever the problem is, having a record of what happened during the last flight and also being able to trust that record would be nice of course :music_whistling:

I would like that feature as well, maybe it improves performance of the game with it disabled?! The track files doesn't work for me anyways, so it's no point of having the game go through with the trouble of saving them... (http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=36767)

DCS: How to gain performance on Windows Vista (Windows 7)
eV1Te replied to eV1Te's topic in DCS: Ka-50 Black Shark
I updated the main post with Jesse's software and I also added install instructions for the other ones. I hope it helps someone gaining performance and some playability. Let me know if you want something else added or removed... -
DCS: How to gain performance on Windows Vista (Windows 7)
eV1Te replied to eV1Te's topic in DCS: Ka-50 Black Shark
I do understand the difficulties of making a non multi-threaded software fully multi-threaded, but still, it is easier to move the physics/flight dynamics engine for one example to another thread than to move it to the GPU. My only hope is that a patch is released that in some way reduces/improves the CPU load in any way. -
Here is my profile, updated it with small dead zone like areas for all axis. Place the file in: C:\Program Files (x86)\NaturalPoint\TrackIR4\Profiles (if you have 32-bit OS the skip the (x86) part of course) eV1Te.zip

Updated 2009-01-29: Updated list of improvements one can make to improve performance. After reading several threads covering the subject of the performance in DCS Black Shark and never finding a good solution. I decided to make some investigation myself and hopefully clear things up. Scroll down for quick instructions on how to improve your performance/FPS. -------------------------------------------------------------------- Background: The game engine runs in a single thread or at least most of the computer load is placed in only one thread. As I noticed by using Process Explorer (available at Microsoft’s download pages). And in my case and for my friends the game always occupies all the resources of a single core (exactly 50% on a dual core computer and 25% on a quad core) indicating that the CPU is the limiting factor. Changing the affinity of the DCS.exe process in Windows Vista (with the scripts uploaded in another thread and also attached in this thread) the performance (frames per second) increases. The reason for this isn't because it allows the game to use all of the Cores, since it is only one thread and therefore can only use the processing power of one core at the most. Instead it allows TrackIR/Sound and other background tasks to run on a separate part of the CPU, separating the game from the other tasks that isn't in the game. The games performance is clearly limited by the CPU (in most cases where one already have a reasonably good graphics card). By overclocking my CPU from 2.4 GHz to 3.0 GHz, an increase of 25% I could see a very clear and close to 25% performance increase in the game. At the same time changing the graphical settings of the game generates almost no change in performance since that doesn't affect the CPU power needed (unless you boost the graphical settings to something extreme that makes the graphics card the limiting factor). This indicates the game is in desperate need of an update that distributes the CPU load into different threads so that more than 50% (25% on quad core) of the computer power can be used! (which will probably be released with a later version/next release of a module for DCS as mentioned in the faq by ED) -------------------------------------------------------------------- If you are subjected to a limited performance because of your CPU (which you can check by seeing if the DCS.exe process constantly uses 50% on your dual core CPU or 25% on your quad core CPU), you can gain a performance increase by doing the following things: Using the scripts that is attached below that change the affinity of the DCS.exe process. (Works best with Vista and later) Overclocking your CPU which gives a proportionally large performance increase (only if you know what you are doing!) Getting a new CPU that has greater processing power per Core. :music_whistling: New Stuff 2009-01-29: Reducing Shadows to Active Planar instead of Full gives me a few extra FPS Reducing Water reflection to Normal instead of High gives me a few extra FPS Playing in full screen instead of windowed (which i usually do in games) gives me an 15-20 FPS boost (even though full screen is at a higher resolution than windowed) (If you know something else or have another affinity script etc. let me know and I will update this post!) -------------------------------------------------------------------- Use any of these scripts improve performance (only for Vista or W7 since on WinXP it doesn't gives any performance increase) I would recommend Jesses's program since it is most user friendly: wombat778's script (DSCAff.zip): Step 1: Extract the contents of DSCAFF.zip into your Eagle Dynamics\KA-50 folder. Step 2: Go to the properties of your Black Shark shortcut and change the Target to the appropriate script/bat file (e.g., use a 4 core script if you have 4 cores, an i7 script if you have an i7 processor, an SP script for single player, etc). Step 3: Launch Black Shark using the shortcut. About 30 seconds after getting into a mission, you should see a big FPS improvement if using Vista. MidSilence's script (DCSAFF.rar): This is an application that MidSilence made which sets the affinity on DCS.exe to all processor available in the system. You need to be an administrator. (Run the script in the background while starting the game) Jesse's program (easiest and most nice looking) Download here http://code.google.com/p/dcsbsaffinitytool/ -------------------------------------------------------------------- My computer specifications: Intel E6600 2.4 Ghz (OC @ 3.0 Ghz) 6 GiB RAM Geforce 8800 GTS 640 MiB Windows Vista Business -------------------------------------------------------------------- DSCAff.zip DCSAFF.rar

I was hosting and my own Ka-50 became out of sync after approx 10 seconds. I played another coop mission with a friend only minutes ago, and every thing worked fine in the trackfile for maybe 20 minutes, then my Ka-50 crashed into the mountains (which i didn't do in the real game). So there seems to be large problems with the trackfile system Is there some way of having any kind of debriefing in MP, to see when and where units shot and hit other players, like in singelplayer? (Since trackfiles don't work, a simple logfile of client-names and actions would do)

The worst aspects of the graphical engine right now I think is the lack of Motion Blur both on the rotors/hub/etc and also the lack of motion blur on the shadows that seems to flicker on the ground all the time...

I got my TrackIR today with the TrackClip Pro  Although the built in profiles seems extremely sensitive, while turning the real head only a few degrees the head in game looks at the back wall. Which makes it hard to control the movement of the head and click on the buttons. What settings are you using for Black Shark? My settings for the moment looks like this (have only tested it for an hour): Yaw: Linear value 6 Pitch: Linear value 6 Roll: Linear value 6 XYZ: Default smooth profile

I guess this is done to save on track file size? But it doesn't seem to work very well... as i said two track files from the same LAN COOP mission and not one of them corresponded to how it was actually played.
-
I don't call 30 seconds a long time, since not even the startup of the engines worked! How does the engine save the tracks really? It's like it doesn't save the coordinates of the units but instead saves each action the player/players make, so if the trackfile is of my some fraction of a second that can make the difference between a successful engine start and turning of the APU a fraction of a second to early which messes up the entire track file???

Detecting enemies; Labels-on to easy, Labels-Off to hard
eV1Te replied to eV1Te's topic in DCS: Ka-50 Black Shark
That's correct, you must have laser targeting eyes, the reason I didn't take the screenshot in another angle is because I couldn't spot him myself (even though I used external view on him and myself) before he was this close. :music_whistling: (Also in the upper parts of the HUD you have an entire air force base with 10+ incoming tanks/trucks/AAA, and the only thing you can spot from them is the fire from the already killed ones, which is well below 10 km away) I only wanted to make a point to the guys that said that it was to easy to spot enemies in the game, when flying an a hilly landscape and in some other weather than plain daylight which this is, then the helos are always seen with the ground as the background and they are almost impossible to spot. -
Look in the Ka-50 GUI manual that comes with the game pages 74 - 87.

Detecting enemies; Labels-on to easy, Labels-Off to hard
eV1Te replied to eV1Te's topic in DCS: Ka-50 Black Shark
This is very true, look at this screenshot (png without destructive compression so the image looks exactly like in game). There is a Mi-24V closer than 1 km and within the HUD. Can you spot him? (Ps. he also have his green/red wing-nav light turned on!) :music_whistling: -
Detecting enemies; Labels-on to easy, Labels-Off to hard
eV1Te replied to eV1Te's topic in DCS: Ka-50 Black Shark
I can agree to some extent with the ground units, but the helicopters are much more difficult to detect (especially the Mi-24V?!) What graphic settings are you using as well as AA and AF (which might change the way units are seen at greater distances)? I have 4x AA and 8x AF and the standard High settings in game. -
I find it very difficult to detect enemies in time in DCS, detecting an enemy helicopter is nearly impossible even when I know where he should be. And if I don't know where he is, it's pure luck if I don't get shot down. :wallbash: With labels turned on the gameplay is to unrealistic and it is to easy to detect and kill enemies. With labels turned off the gameplay is more realistic but it's far more difficult to detect enemies than it would be in real life! The human eye have much much better resolution than any computer screen. With full zoom on the mouse wheel you are closer to the resolution of the unaided human eye, but you can't have that zoom while you are flying of course. What setting are you using and are you experiencing the same difficulty as I am with detecting enemies in time?

After playing a short mission with a friend in coop (i was hosting the game) we both looked at our own track files. In my track file my own Ka-50 doesn't even start it's engine correctly although his Ka-50 does fly away on its own, the enemy units that I did shoot down during the mission survives and continues on it's waypoint track (since I newer takes of in the track file). In his track file, both Ka-50's takes of but when we come close to the battle his Ka-50 stays behind in a hover and does not shoot or even come close the the areas where he flew during the mission. Have anyone else had problems with the track files not playing as the real mission was played?

Are you sure the speed of the shkval is dependent on FPS? By lowering my graphical settings and the resolution so my FPS increased a lot, I couldn't notice any difference in shkval slew rate. How does the slew work in the real Ka-50? Can you slew it in more directions than left-right or up-down (for example diagonally)? Is there some kind of acceleration that increases the slew speed the longer you hold slew button in a certain direction? (Which means that if you change direction often the speed will be slew rate will become very slow)
-
Even if you use HMS it's impossible to get a lock on a helicopter, if you get close with the HMS you still have to slew it on top of the heli, right... Requests: 1. Include 8 POV mode where a hat switch can slew diagonally. 2. Remove the acceleration that increases the speed of the slew the longer you hold the button. (Full speed directly is preferred, and if you want to go slower there is a button for that in the cockpit) Look on this video, the movement is much faster than I experience in DCS (don't know if he uses HMS for that) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bEHJc1pTkHc
