  1. I can confirm you can see rctrl-enter
  2. I would rather fly one aircraft done right and with minute detail than a plethora of craft that is done with half-arsed realism. There's a game that allows you to fly other craft - the Battlefield series.
  3. Ah I see. 25fps min. is very sufficient for me. I don't notice any difference when it hits 40fps or 25 fps. Gave up fps shooters and counting high framerates a long time ago. It's all smooth to me. But I can see the difference in water. Guess it all comes down to a matter of personal preference, but you don't need to turn down the water to play, cos it's not a slideshow for you, you just choose to do so.
  4. that really is weird. What fps are you getting? Your system should be able to handle max settings and at, at least, 19xx resolution. I bought my new system at the start of this year, so one of the first things I did was crank up all my games to max - haven't needed to turn down anything so far. BS running at 1920x1200 w/ everything on max. 16AF, 16AA, gettings 25-40 fps. Everyone in this thread with a gtx2xx series is running on max, and I recently responded to a guy in another thread that's oc'ed his cpu to the same as you and he's getting over 40fps now at 1920x1200. If you're not getting at least the same minimum fps as me, then something is definitely wrong.
  5. There are numerous discussions about sli v single card, but that would start a whole new thread. Not all games support sli, in fact I'd say the majority of games don't support sli. With 1 card, there's less heat/space/power requirements. No microstutter. Plus some of the time you'd have to play around a bit with sli settings to get it working for that particular game. Also you'd have to get a 9800 card that has 1Gb on it, as sli doesn't mean your card RAM is doubled (nor in fact your processing power). But they are relatively cheap - cheapest 9800GTX 1Gb is $140 on Newegg. But you can get a Gtx 280 for $330 and just plug in and not worry about it. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814143142 Why buy older tech if you're going to be paying roughly the same? If you're on a budget, then you can't go wrong with one 9800gtx.
  6. Strange, I can take screenshot w/o any problems. With either FRAPS or just prtScn
  7. hmm do you know who? I have a gtx260 and play maxed settings @1920x1200, forced 16AF, 16AA, supersampling transparency. My fps drops to about 25fps around big pools of water. The gtx2xx series can easily handle max settings. if you have one and you're getting stuttering, I'd look at what else might be the bottleneck in your system. I'm willing to bet it's the cpu and/or XP.
  8. Even though it's probably for FSX, check this out: http://www.theage.com.au/news/home/technology/matts-on-a-different-plane--and-its-surreal/2009/03/13/1236447451617.html
  9. Can't think of any games that use HT currently. So unless you're doing other stuff, such as rendering/CAD etc... it's better to disable it. Not only for gaming improvements but HT produces a ton of heat. I lost 6-10C just from disabling HT. What did you sue to get 3.2 Stingray? Just the EasyTunes software that came with the Gigabyte mobo, or did you manually set timings via bios?
  10. Stingray did you have any problems with the Thermalright? Was wanting to buy an aftermarket cpu cooler myself but read that some didn't fit the Gigabyte x58 series well.
  11. hmm.. I've almost got the same rig, gtx 260 and normal 7200 WD HD - playing at 1920x1200 everything on max, forced 16AF, 16Q AA. I average 25-35 fps. I do use the affinity tool.
  12. Have you actually had a play around with your profiles? You can edit your pitch curves there, just uncheck mirror values.
  13. Vector tracks really well. I really don't notice the difference b/w the 2. I use vector when the wife is out, and crank up the volume on my surround sound. If I really, really paid attention I'd say the clip does track slightly smoother, but only if you put your mind to it. In game it's not noticeable. Just make sure you use light filtering in the tracking settings and adjust it for vector or clip - cos a setting for one will stuff up the other. Also remember to adjust the actual trackir unit for either... left side of the monitor for clip, center for vector. Never gave me headaches. But then I've never had any probs looking at screens or playing fast moving fps.
  14. Love my TrackIR. Can't imagine playing games w/o it anymore. For flight simmers, particularly combat simmers, it's almost a necessity. Dont' be afraid to fiddle with your settings and experiment with what will work for you. If you're unsure, follow the no.1 rule of pc fiddling - always make a backup of a profile that works. Bear in mind that TrackIR is very light sensitive. So if you have a light source behind you, like a window, it'll play with your tracking. The first hour I got my TrackIR I seriously thought that they'd shipped me a defective one cos it wouldnt' track properly. I had a play around with everything and learnt what each setting does in about 30 mins. I use both the trackclip + vector depending on if the missus is at home or not. They both work well.
  15. The learning curve isn't as bad as you'd think - and that's part of the fun. Mastering and knowing all the nuances of the ka-50 will probably take longer.
  16. Actually that's not really AI, that's a predetermined script or trigger. I do x to the mob, it goes and does y. More true AI like behaviour (cos true AI means a machine capable of thinking for themselves) can probably be seen in games such as Fear and the newer gen fps, where mobs semi-think for themselves about where you are and what type of cover to use, or to run. If it was AI, the mob would have considered whether to attack you at all, if so, probably planned an ambush or called in reinforcements, not rush at you waiting to be disarmed. But games like have what, maybe 6 enemies on screen (at the most) at once? Try doing that in a military sim where there may be scores of units that you'd have to account for. Putting aside the massive coding/development needed, I doubt your home pc would be capable of handling that.
  17. If we're talking about the laser burning out, Isn't this an actual flaw in the real ka-50?
  18. ah thanks for the clarification. Never tried to hover at that altitude. Either I'm landing or taking off.
  19. The AP's disengage at around this height, so be sure to turn them back on if you don't want to land.
  20. When you do fly with it, you'll never go back to coolie hat views again.
  21. Yep, as I stated in an earler post. HT atm does nothing for gaming... in some cases it's a fps decrease. It's a different case if you're doing other cpu intensive tasks, such as rendering.
  22. Thought we were talking about this one: http://code.google.com/p/dcsbsaffinitytool/ If we are, then this only detects 2 or 4 cores and vista. If you have 8 cores due to HT, it'll give you an error msg and won't even start the app.
  23. The tool only works with 2 or 4 cores. HT makes it 8 cores so the tool fails at that check.
  24. The tool only detects 4 cores. You have to disable multithreading in your bios. Don't worry it won't affect game performance in any way. In fact, some games will probably run better with it off.
