  1. Take note that TrackIR doesn't like USB hubs at all. It needs to go directly into your pc.
  2. Use rctrl-enter to check the position of your rudders. If your blades are colliding even with soft right banks, it's probably due to you having too much right rudder without realising it.
  3. Omg those things are huge!! I'd really hate to be on the receiving end of one of these... really. http://image69.webshots.com/469/2/59/94/2500259940102781874tHhyYc_ph.jpg hmm here's the link if you can't view it from above "http://image69.webshots.com/469/2/59/94/2500259940102781874tHhyYc_ph.jpg"
  4. /shakes head. Where in any of my posts did I make ad hominen attacks against you? The only possible way I could have is if you wrote the original article and took insult. If that's not the case, well here's my first - you sure got a chip on your shoulder. What gave you the impression I'm a keen defender of ED? I only spoke up about the circumstances in how the article was written - do you want me to state it... again? This game is far from perfect. The outdated LOMAC engine, the ridiculous trees, the woeful ground effects at low altitude, the campaign is lacking (but sufficient), the intelligent AI (or lack thereof). Everything I tell ppl I know about the sim, the good and bad. My posts have been about the article, not about reviewers in general. And I've already updated my assessment of the review after reading the translation. Here's another ad hominen - or can you not take compliments either?
  5. Where in my post(s) did I invalidate it? I was basing my comments on the first post - read it again - and with only the knowledge that the reviewer had only tested the game in arcade mode. Again read my first post - that's like reviewing a book by only reading the back cover description. Again - read my post - I already said, and this is the third time I'm saying it - I understand that. And I've already stated that doing so (reviewing something without actually properly testing it) is misleading. And yes, thanks to a translation, I can properly critique the article. The author did make a number of caveats to his review, which any reasonable reader will take into consideration. Hats off to them for doing so. And I agree with what he's written. And next time maybe you could be a little bit less defensive and had told us what the general gist of the article was, if you couldn't be bothered translating it yourself. Then next time we can possibly avoid 'lost in translation' issues. This was a result of the first post stating that the reviewer had only tried the game in arcade mode and me not being able to read the review to see the quality of it. And you're off base with movies and entertainment comment. I could not care less if the reviewer gave a score of 30% if he had properly played the game. I would have disagreed, but respected that perhaps this game isn't for him. That's fine, it doesn't affect my gaming in any way. No, ppl are dissing the review cos most, like me, only had the knowledge that the reviewer had only tried the game in arcade mode. And for a complex study sim of this caliber, that is a travesty that needs to be corrected. That's like give a review of War and Peace using only 'The Idiots Guide To...' People are up in arms about this because they can see the injustice of it - if all the reviewer did was play the arcade mode and not given the game a fair chance. Did you read the TPC UK review? What do you work for this magazine? Your defence of them is admirable.
  6. Has there been talk about a co-op campaign? That would be sublime. I play both pc and console games and co-op campaigns is one area that the console has most pc games beat. Has there been talk about incorporating a co-op campaign at all? I'd love to be able to complete the game with a buddy.
  7. NM - just googled it. Didn't realize it was so old. I'm sticking with BS - I prefer the complete package of sim + eye candy. Looks like I'll have to wait for the AH-64A module (if it's confirmed).
  8. Does Janes flight model equal DCS:BS? Does it simulate rather than guesstimate the performance of the aircraft? Likewise with avionics and weapons systems? Can you fully interact with the cockpit to the extent of this game. TrackIR support? Just a few questions as this is my first helo sim, which has piqued my interest in others.
  9. Whatever. It's not in English so to me, it may as well be Danish or Chinese. The point is I couldn't read it to accurately critique it. Something that this review doesn't seem to do. Yes, I agree and I said I understand it, but to give a definitive score based on an inaccurate assessment that's going to be published to the general public is misleading. As I said earlier - I can understand if they don't have enough time, but if that's the case, I would rather leave the score open-ended until I properly understand what I'm reviewing. Care to fully translate the article so that we can come to the same conclusion? The world doesn't revolve around Dutch (irony intended). I stand by my views - if you can't even properly assess a product, why write about it? If you saw that in the printed media about a subject matter you know, would you stand for it?
  10. It's in Danish so I can't read it - having said that though, I don't know why you would give out a score/review if you've never played the game properly for an extended period of time. It's like giving a book review by reading only the back cover description. I can understand if they don't have enough time, but if that's the case, I would rather leave the score open-ended until I properly understand what I'm reviewing.
  11. No probs at all for me - Vista64 too. The only problem I have is that my pc desk is right next to a small pane glass window that didn't ever need curtains. That screws with TrackIR during day time play. Wonder how the wife would react if I painted the window black.
  12. Lol look at the pics they posted up - only of game mode. They've completely missed out on 95% of, and the whole point of the game. Bet the reviewers just flew around a few games with easy mode just to review it. With reviews like this, I doubt the mag/site will be taken seriously by gamers. It's like tabloid v serious journalism.
  13. To program in waypoints in the PVI - 1. Use Abris to get longitude/latitude co-ordinates. 2. On the PVI keypad, hit NAV TGT. 3. Switch to MASTER MODE (dial underneath keypad), left click to EDIT. 4. Hit NAV TGT, then push number 1 for first nave target, 2 for second etc... 5. Have to tell PVI whether it's north based co-ords. Press 0 (got a + on it to indicate North). Don't worry if you dont' see any lights. 6. Enter in north latitude (take note of Frederf's post about how PVI co-ords differ from ABRIS, just round up the last numbers). 7. For longitude co-ords - press 0 again (for east of prime meridian co-ords), enter in longitude. 8. ENTER should now light up indicating that you've entered in valid co-ords. Press ENTER to confirm. 9. Go back to MASTER MODE, right click to OPERATE. 10. Hit NAV TGT, then press # of co-ord you want to fly to. Engage autopilot. If I've missed any steps, feel free to correct me.
  14. Given that sims are more cpu dependent, and that your fps is good in singleplayer, I'd say there's a limitation with your cpu. What are you running? You could try to minimize any unnecessary processes.
  15. hmm, who would I rather place my trust in? The people that have had actual personal correspondence, guidance and real data from Kamov and KA-50 pilots? Or the assumptions of a gamer? Tough choice. There was a video which showed a KA-50 doing some moves. it was split into 3 screens - outside, hud(?) and pilot. Someone posted much earlier, in it you can clearly see the pilot holding down the trimmer while maneuvering, then releasing. In fact, I copied what he was doing when starting out. And Eric, I like how you quickly discount ppl that have actual flight experience to aircraft that is similar, and to easily brush off EB or Alpha16's comments. EB is closer to the development team than you or I, and going from Alpha16's comments in the trim sticky, he's worked on Russian aircraft before (pretty sure that was him). And waht about Dugulus' comments earlier?
  16. Therein lies the problem. Some pilots that have actual flying experience have ingrained procedures that are hard to unlearn. The average gamer, specifically the sim enthusiast doesn't have this and are quick to learn what works. HOWEVER, given the minute detail that went into this sim, I'm fairly confident to say that ED have replicated (not recreated) how the AP/trim handles. Lots of people have figured out how the trim functions work and can fly the BS as is. I dare say those that exclusively use the FD the majority of their flying time are in the minority. Lastly, has anyone actually flown a military grade helicopter? I remember reading earlier posts from ppl that have flown russian military helis commenting on how realistic this sim is. There was even a post from a black hawk pilot commenting on the realistic application of the trimmer. Don't think he had any problems picking up how the ap/trim works.
  17. No troubles flying the BS - holding trimmer while making changes, then release. No rubber-banding or wobbling for me either. This is after alot of practice though - as it should be.
  18. Has anyone found out a workaround for the warped multiplayer menus when using a second screen? I can't see any of the buttons on my setup and rely on others to start the mission. Also can't see my rctrl-enter tool - not too fussed about this one as it forces me to pickup the subtleties of flying.
  19. Another trick to making nice turns - keep the ball in the center lines (underneath the attitude director indicator and also under the standby attitude indicator). Combine rudder, cyclic and collective to try keep the ball centered.
  20. do you have any other gaming devices plugged in? They might be conflicting with your joystick. If not, I'd re-calibrate my joystick controls.
  21. Isn't freetrack only 3DOF and trackir the full 6?
  22. Rofl famous last words. After buying BS, I bought - an i7 920, 6Gb RAM, new HD, GTX260, HOTAS, TrackIR 4 + clip, another 19in ws monitor (just for abris/shkval). If any game's worth it, this one is.
  23. Second time I've seen your setup. Second time I've had an e-gasm. Wish I could build a pit, but I play games in the main living room - that way it keeps the missus happy cos I can talk(grunt) to her if she's in the talking mood. A second screen, HOTAS, and TrackIR are the only toys I can comfortably get away with. Not sure if your gpu can handle all that, but hope it does. Would love to see your pit working, keep us updated.
