ANSWER FROM TM REGARDING WT THROTTLE PROBLEM
WynnTTr replied to Funkyjazz's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
Yeah cos your g940 is representative of all g940's ever produced since its release. Back on track though - some form of communication is better than none. Their communication still sucks but better than being ignored. As to whether they're lying or not, no matter the answer some people will always assume that it's a lie despite them being in a more qualified position to know than anyone else here or in any forum. The question then becomes one of an individual one - what answer will satisfy YOU. -
It's got enough buttons - http://www.saitek.com/uk/prod/x65f.html It's a nice HOTAS but I just never got used to the force sensing technology and the immovable stick. If they just let it move slightly like in the real F16 it'd make a huge difference tactilely. It's like sex for me - I need to feel some movement rather than something that doesn't budge when I'm playing with it.

Flash update your 6950 to a 6970
WynnTTr replied to WynnTTr's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
It would if you left the 6790 bios on it for it to be found. If they have a logging system set up on the card that logs all bios flashes then you might be in trouble. But if you flashed it back to 6950 bios then rma'd the card - who's to know? And would they really care to check? -
Problem with Warthog Throttle
WynnTTr replied to Jg2001_Rasputin's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
Too many walls of text I didn't bother reading it all. The fact is I was working from actual data acquired from this site and simhq. Everyone else I've been arguing against loves to pull fictitious numbers and scenarios out of thin air. Sorry but without some form of hard data and evidence all it is is q lot of huff and puff and no substance. Not going to change your minds. I'll just get back to flying with arguably the best hotas out there currently. If my throttle bricks, so what? I'll rma it and get another one. -

Yeah it's almost as if they encouraged ppl to give this a shot. For them, being in the industry for as long as they have, a bios instead of hardware block just screams for ppl in the know to tinker. Given this age of oc'ing I almost reckon they did it deliberately to boost their sales. -

Your argument ended when you admitted it was a hypothetical. The fact that you went on further to support it just shows your bias already and nothing I say will change your mind. That's ok, everyone's entitled to their opinion. But like I said no product has a 100% success/manufacture rate. Well I can't think of any. Even non mechanical items have their defects. And I don't understand the sportscar analogy either. Just cos it's a premium product does not make it equal to a car, house whatever. Compare it to it's rivals. -

I know you never said what the failure rate is but the implication is that the failure rate is much higher because of those that we don't know about - those that don't post on forums. I'm just saying you can't use that argument as there's no data whatsoever. I can counter by saying that for those that bricked and don't post on the forums about it, the same proportion of people who have it working perfectly exists v those that bricked. Surely you can see that's nonsensical. And yeah, it is BS for us personally. I've already stated that. But using this site as a representation, it won't even register as an incident on TM's radar. You're right in that TM won't tell us anything - but you're assuming that's a bad thing. I see it that the actual figure is so small (even at 5% failure rate) that it's not worth mentioning. And again it's not like they're unwilling to replace the throttle. For us personally though (third time I've said it) it's a tragedy. But it's not indicative of a widespread problem - going with what we know currently. Certainly not as widespread as some scaremongers would have us believe. TM's not Apple and even their stuff has problems. -

What about the people don't know about the forums? They don't represent anything because they don't bring any evidence or data to the table. You're arguing that the failure rate is much higher based on what? People that don't post online? Thanks for making an argument out of nothing. I can do that too and say that 100% of non forum goers are perfectly happy with their purchase. I can't prove it and neither can you. See it does both ways. I'm just going by some data that's been acquired (albeit hastily and roughly, but still better than nothing) from here and then SimHQ. At least that's a REAL figure to go by. We only know of what we've been told here - and going from here and SimHQ that number is very small when compared to the number who bought the WH. Even if we discounted the serial numbers and just added up all the posts who have bought their WH v bricked throttle the failure rate is still small. -

Yes the 6xxx has dual bioses. There's a switch on the top of the card which selects which bios to use. The link has the instructions to ensure you're flashing bios 1 and not 2. I must say though that I did this more out of curiosity than any real need. The 6950 is only 10% slower than the 6970 so in game fps didn't jump that much. I got my 10% increase but given my fps was already good it wasn't as noticeable as actually upgrading from my old gtx260 to the 6950. The process was fairly well explained and the whole thing took me less than 5 minutes to do. -

WynnTTr replied to Jg2001_Rasputin's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
Where did you get 30+ ppl from.. like I said going back a few pages I counted less than 10 here... and only one thread on the throttle dying on simhq by one person. I can check the 145 page thread they got there but I'm pretty sure that they don't have 20+ ppl in that thread saying their throttle has bricked. But lets say you're correct though - 30 out of how many production releases? If my onw is 4xxx - 30/4000 = how much % have bricked? Like I said, not a big issue at all for TM. Not even a real blip on their radar. Ofc it sucks for us on a personal level if one of ours has bricked and we're most vocal on the forums but in the bigger picture it's definitely not a widespread issue. Having said that I'm hoping I don't fall into that miniscule percentile and bricks it - but even if it did I'll just return it for a replacement. No biggie. -

What do you want to know that you can't figure it out yourself from these forums? That a handful of ppl have had their throttle brick out of how many production releases? I don't know their figures but mine is at 4xxx already. Going back a few pages on this forum I struggled to find 10 ppl who have reported their throttle dying - if you can find a higher number, I'd gladly be corrected. Plus those ones that have bricked are commenting on several threads. What % has actually bricked? Given that is it worth TM coming out and saying that a very tiny % has problems - if that were the case we'd need reps for every single product that's ever been manufactured. I'd understand if they had a 20% brick rate.. maybe even a 10% brick rate.. hell give me a 5% rate. Thus it's easy to conclude that while there is a chance your throttle might brick it's a very, very minute one. The question then becomes: do you feel lucky, well do ya? Even if yours does brick TM have proven that they're willing to replace it. So there's your answer - it is an incident, albeit a very, very minor one. In the general scheme of things not worth really bringing to the attention of the board (sucks for us on a personal level). If you're one of the unlucky ones then contact us and we'll replace it. -
My temps range from 70-80C when playing games. Before the flash they were 65-75C when playing. So that's a reasonable for the increased clock speeds/power. Fan speeds are still set to auto in Catalyst. One thing you have to do is adjust power to 20% to account for the extra power.

I'm surprised this hasn't been mentioned here yet but you can flash update your 6950 to a 6970. The dual bios of ATI cards makes this pretty safe to do. The shaders are bios locked and not hardware locked, so all you need to do is flash your 6950 with 6970 bios. If you have any problems you can always restore your 6950 bios. I'm running my 6950 at 900/1380. Stock 6970 speeds are 880/1375 while 6950's are 800/1375 with locked shaders.

Good choice. You can now flash update it to a 6970. I've done it to my 6950 and am now running a 6790.

Cheapest way to buy Track IR 5 bundle?
WynnTTr replied to kingneptune117's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
That's why you have the centre trackIR key mapped to your hotas. You're note expected to sit in one position for hours. so a quick re-centre works wonders. I do it subconsciously now every time I shift. I can lean wherever and my finger automatically re-centres the view for me. -
Joysticks for the Worthog Simm
WynnTTr replied to pumafoot's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
It really depends what your budget is. You can get a cheapo all the way up to the TM:WH and everything in between. Give us a figure so we know how better to spend your money for you. -
Just a quick note - if you're playing with AI squadmates where you're not the leader (campaign or MP), if he issues an order make sure that you carry it out. This is to prevent the AI from stalling and standing around doing nothing. E.g. the first engagement in AO we had to clear and secure the airfield then the two surrounding villages. Our force did the airfield and were ordered to move onto the villages. The AI squad leader told us to move there but then they all just stood around doing nothing. Took me a few minutes to realise that he'd given me an order earlier to take out an enemy that was hiding in the control tower. Things didn't move on until I went up there and did as ordered. This game does make you think more tactically but it also forces you to go into debug logic mode as well.

The way I see it is I'm going to buy and fly it anyway. May as well get it asap so I can enjoy it rather than not have it at all. It's like an appetizer - you're just waiting for the main meal. But that's me. Some would prefer not to spoil their dinner and wait to fully appreciate their steak.

Green lights of TM Warthog Throttle
WynnTTr replied to STP Dragon's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
Yeah definitely a holy crap moment for me too. And I'm hearing the same things as I thought - that that makes all other HOTAS seem like toys. There's just no way to describe it until you've seen it on your desk. I had heard the same thing from previous poster reviews but it never just clicked until I opened my box. Now everything they said came back to me and I could only agree. -
Look up ACE. But be warned - it notches up the realism and might frustrate you more. Some would recommend that you play vanilla first but it's all a matter of choice. Another good one is ZEUS AI. I'm a minimalist when it comes to mods cos I have doing the installation dance and having too many mods just causes more problems and instability in the long run but those two are probably the biggest and most supported, well at least ACE is. Also keep an eye out for Project Reality for Arma2 OA. Not released yet but it's designed for a one stop shop ultimate mother of all mods. Given PR's track record with BF2, myself and alot of the Arma2 community are hanging out for this one.

My wife already looks at me funny when I burst out with some strange noises when playing with headphones on. Or when I'm physically leaning with the virtual bank. I think she'll have a tea party and have her friends come over to watch the ape flail his arms around if something like Kinect and these wishes are implemented. Very doubtful though.. be nice, we can only dream.

W7/64 Some niggly problems with UAC and administrator rights (not just W7) but once they're set, you're good as gold. I'd go so far as to say that W7 > XP now for gaming. Well in today's day and age seeing as XP is no longer supported. But if you compare the two in their prime, I personally think W7 is easier to game with.

Reading comprehension FTW - suggest you learn some. Or how about another cliche for you, you know, assumptions make an.... I never defended the WH. I know it's problems but imprecision is not one of them. But I also know that as the market stands, the TM WH is the finest stick you can buy currently. When CH comes out with their version I'm sure that will beat the TM WH when it comes to reliability, durability and precision given CH's track record. But lets go on with the game and have some more fun cos I'm in the mood - you just can't afford one. Don't be envious just work harder.
-
Does this mean that you've actually done it Bucic?

Bashing something that you don't have is usually the first sign of envy.
