  1. Thx for the helpful info. Some things are great about VR, some are not. I gave it a good thought now and I will send back the Rift S and stay in non-VR. I can clearly see, what people love about VR and feel quite the same. But some things, especially the shimmering (F-14 Cockpit, F/A-18 not so bad) and the limited distance-sight (I cant see, which way the carrier is going from 2-3 miles out or cant find an airfield from 5 miles away) are putting me off right now. After all, Im pretty new to DCS (only 8 months) with maybe 200hrs and I still have to learn pretty much. So no need to rush things anyway. But I will follow this subject for sure and will make another attempt in a years time...
  2. Hi. Got a few questions, maybe someone can help. I just got a Rift S and had some flying around. I have to say, Im not particulary overwhelmed.... Yes, its cool and it feels like sitting in a real plane. But then again, everything is has only mediocre resolution, which takes part of the immersion away again. At least for me. Right now I have a GTX1660Ti, which does fine for me on my 1440p-monitor. When ordering the Rift S, I planned (if I liked it) to upgrade to a RTX2080 (non-Ti). So, thinking of that, and expecting a double framerate with the RTX2080, I right away put the settings a bit higher (high (terrain) textures, visib-range high, water high, cockpit 1024, MSAA x2,PD up to 1,6) and got some 25-35frames with that with some dips to the low 20s. My questions: - is my expectations to double my framerate with an RTX-Card reasonable? Reading some reviews, the RTX 2080 should give a 75% gain over my 1660Ti. - I did witness a bit of shimmering on some edges in the cockpit and also outisde. Not as bad as the trees in the Normandy-map, but still. Going up with the PD did help I think. Is this normal?? - instruments or panles in the cockpit are not great, but ok to read. The numbers on the F-18 menu-button of the DDI are a bit hard to read, as some of the options on the DDI too. The words on the colored display in the middle are unreadable to me, except, Ill get close to the display. But that is a problem on my monitor too. Is this normal?? - I have a IPD of 66,5 and do withness a drop in sharpness towards the edges. Words towards the edges like the disclaimer in the loading screen are more "guessable" than readable. Also I get some minor double-vision of planes flying by. Is this also normal? - also the FOV is pretty narrow. I did a test (ROV Test FOV & Resolution) and I got some 94deg vertically and 88 deg horizontally Overall Im right now rather underwhelmed, since the resolution of the image is (coming from a 1440p-monitor) pretty poor. Especially annoying is the limited sight into distance. Finding an airfield or judging the position of the carrier is not easy to me right now. Sundowns, that on the monitor look pretty stunning are just pixalated. The limited FOV is not great, but during flying actually not a too big problem. And yes, sound is poor. I then when back to non-VR and it felt a bit strange, but everything looks much nicer. I think, right now I still could go back and be ok with it...... Ill do some further testing today, but right now Im more torwards sending back the Rift. Maybe someone can give me some answers to sort my expectations. Right now I think my expactations were a bit too high. The Rift because of my bit too high IPD might be not perfect, but I dont think, this is the problem for me. Thx
  3. Hi. Just two questions, since I was looking at the SCG too. What is the precision difference compared to the Warthog-grip? Is it really too small for big hands? Thx
  4. Thx!!!! Already tried it and this is an eye-opener for me! The differences between Tomcat and Hornet seem to be even bigger than I thought. With the Hornet on the RiverRun Im getting close to 04:30min but with the Tomcat right now it seems impossible for me. I guess, I have lots to practice now! ;-)
  5. Well, I like the Normandie-map. Yes, it has some problems and I especially do dislike the shimmering. But overall its a beautiful map and I also enjoy flying my more modern jets there.
  6. Hi. I like the F/A-18 Caucasus-Riverrun quite al lot. But it would be even greater to try that one with an F-14.... Is there a simple way to change the F/A-18 to the F-14?? For someone with no experience in programming? For the most IA-missions I could try to make a similar by my own, just with a different aircraft. But with those gates thats not possible.. At least I think so. Thx
  7. There is already such a skin. Well 99% alike... https://www.digitalcombatsimulator.com/en/files/3303958/
  8. Hi. Since Ive already applied some silicon from a silicon-spray, I did not remove it, after reading your warning. But after flying for 2 hours since applying the silicon I have to say, that it works great for me. When pulling the stick a bit and then doing a tiny adjustment in pulling a bit more, the (initial) higher force needed is gone now. This is much better than the normal grease Ive used before, since with that after 10 min it was back to the same state as before greasing it. So actually - right now - my both complaints about the X52 are gone. I will keep an eye on the situation and possible future degradations, but now Im rather pleased. So no need to replace it right away. And still if all turns sour, its no problem, since I wanted to replace the X52 in the first place. Thx for your help.
  9. Thx for the info. As often in life, differences on the sheet dont relay into real and perceivable differences during actual use. Getting a Warthog will also not give better (compared to almost none-existent) AAR-skills. ;-) That really worked. Thx for the tip. This will hopefully really increase my AAR, since the detent often got in the way of fine-adjustments of the throttle! I will buy a Silicon-spray and test that. If that works out to some extent, I will stay with my Standard X-52.
  10. Hi. Im using a X-52 (non pro) and actually am rather satisfied with it. The one thing I do dislike is the lower detent on the throttle, which I was able to go around since it set it up (in DCS), that idle goes up to the frist detent. The second thing I do dislike the friction on the stick. The centering-cone (made of plastic) has too high friction for my liking. When pulling the stick a bit and then trying to make a tiny adjustment, there is a rather high resistance at first, which makes it harder to be precise. I tried to use some grease, but that was only a short-term solution and I do not want to put grease on the stick every other hour. Since my stick (old one, got it used) has one broken button Im thinking about getting a new X-52pro. If the pro offers less friction and therefore offers better precision. X56 for high throttle- and twist-forces and Warthog for lack of twist-axis are no alternatives as are Virpil-stick for their too high price. Maybe in the future Ill get a Virpil, if I see a longterm future for DCS and me. But until then, can anybody give me some feedback if the X52-pro could be better than the standard X52 for me, because it offer less friction?? Thx
  11. Also prefer 2.5.5 trees.... Did they put those trees also into Normandy? Or has this to be done by the map-developer? Normandy looks stunning, but those trees just shimmer and shimmer.........
  12. Can you plz elaborate on that? I have a X52 and when doing tiny adjustments, there often seems to be some (higher) resistance to get over first. Makes those adjustments often unprecise. Already thought about putting some grease (or something comparable) on the lower side of the base(under the spring), to reduce friction between the base and the circular opening below. Sorry, hard to explain. Is my problem the same that you are referring to? Is there a solution??
  13. Syria The announcement-vid for the F-16C seems to have been made on the Syria.map. The big city at the end of the vid should be Beirut.
  14. Thx for the info.
  15. Hi. Anyone got the T-Shirts actually and not only an email "shipment on the way"? I got my email 10 days ago and no delivery guy on my doorstep yet...
  16. During some a short mission set up in the mission editor I found the same effect again. See pic. When I unchecked the dust-smoke checkbox low down in the weather-tab the effect was gone. BTW: the mirrors show the wrong weather too. It looks like I came from a sunny place, but actually it was all 8/8 cloudcover with only little light and some rain just like the area ahead.....
  17. Im not certain, if this is a DCS or F-14-bug, but my uneducated guess is F-14. Anyway, its just optical, still it "hurt" my eyes.... I took this printscreen on the first PG-F-14-misson (reactor-strike in Iran) on coming back to the carrier. In the pic you can see, that that haze on the horizon is going over the metal-canopy-frame. Looks strange and is for sure not correct.
  18. Test My "cheap" system gives me 42/35. My PCs specs are I5-3570, GTX 1660Ti, 24 GB DDR3-Ram at 1600Mhz. What I dont understand is, why GPU and CPU dont seem to be pushed to their limits. See the pic with my slightly different standard-settings. GPU 58% CPU 1/2 14/11%. Shouldnt one be maxed? The only thing, that is maxed is GPU-RAM (6GB), so I turned it off in Afterburner. Since I have a 6GB GTX1660Ti, could a move to something compareable with 8GB (like 1070) raise my fps?? Sorry if my question seems stupid EDIT on 20-06-2019: I updated my system now and its proove of those claims, that DCS in CPU-dependent. I upgraded from a I5-3570 to a I5-9600K (not oc-ed) with DDR4-Ram at 2800Mhz, still with the GTX 1660TI I had before and my results went up from ~42/35 to ~77/67. My GPU is now much higher loaded, often maxed. Before upgrading I expected some 15fps, maybe even 10fps, but this result is astonishing. Especially when looking at other game-benchmarks, difference between I5-3570 and I5-9600K are maybe 15% or even less. In DCS things now feel much smoother; in Windows10 though, tehre is no feelable difference.
  19. Thx. Wilco! :)
  20. Hi. Sorry to ask this here. Im not sure, where to post, but since its F-14 related I thought I do it here. First off, Im a bloody newbie to this great sim. I have maybe only 30-50 hrs overall on A-10A and F-14B..... Recently, meaning in the last three days of so, I had several programme-crashes. Strange thing is, the last few times was, when I crashed the F-14. I repaired the installation already, but nothing changed. The last line in the log-file was two crashes ago: 2019-03-26 21:34:43.466 INFO EDTERRAINGRAPHICS41: InstanceManager2::updateObjectLodDeclBuffer() 2019-03-26 21:37:58.828 ERROR SOUND: invalid source_params(F14_PILOT_COCKPIT:foley\damage_impact): gain This actually was a hard landing on an airfield. Screen went black and after 5 sec the Windows desktop appeared. This morning I had a real crash and the screen went black again and it was back to the desktop. Logfile was kind of the same with three error-lines, all with SOUND: invalid source_params..... I then repaired DCS and after crashing into the carrier some minutes ago I looked for the logfile, but the Log-folder was not there.... Can anybody give me a hint, what to do to correct this. I had now three programme-crashes in maybe 4 hours of flying.... Thx
