I splashed out on the CH Fighter Stick (+ throttle + pedals) last Christmas, and like you I was concerned about how much better these expensive things could be than my venerable X52... All I can say from my experience is that the CH joystick is amazing! I instantly found that flying the Huey was easier for me, as I was able to be much more precise. The stick has a very light feel to it's movement, which I like, you can fly with fingertips, no need to wrench it about. But that's not to everyone's taste of course. I did a lot of reading around the various options, and came down to a choice between the CH range of products, or the X55 (+ some other pedals). A lot of noise is made about hall effect sensors, and the sensor resolution, but all I can say is that a high quality pot reporting 256 values is doing a fine job for me :) Your mileage may vary. I love my CH kit, and don't regret my choice in the slightest. It's perhaps not the prettiest gear, not much in the way of flashing lights or markings, but they're SOLID and good quality. Oh, and the software. The software is SO SO good.

Does this apply to all modules? I've been a DCS player since the original Black Shark came out, and I've never quite been clear on the complications of the DRM system.

A look on the sim's free-bird Su-25T's basics

Nice resource WinterH, looks like some really good stuff there :) -
+1 I picked up the bf109, but it's not great to say it's a 3 day sale, and it only lasts seemingly 2 days

Highwayman-Ed, I think what zionid was asking for is a zip of just the texture files you have modified, NOT packaged with another total texture replacement. I'd also like JUST the village textures, so I can merge them into other ground texture mods I'm trying out. Can you knock that up? Or even just a list of the files names I should extract from one of those all-in-one packs would be great :) Thanks. Edit :- Looking at the file names it'll be anything starting "village_", but there are a few other texture files in the bundle I just downloaded (the low'n'slow bundle) So presumably those other bits are the texture mod made by Toby? -
DCS: Mi-8MTV2 English Flight Manual
samtheeagle replied to EvilBivol-1's topic in DCS: Mi-8MTV2 Magnificent Eight
Magic! :D -
This is potentially fantastic news :) I was really excited to hear of a Cobra being developed, but then I read about it being the G version, and how that wasn't really going to be much more capable than a Huey in the DCS environment... If the developers can make the switch to a variant that can pack some anti-tank fire power then game on again! :D

Cheers BIGNEWY, you sir are a star! Yeah, firewall off. Flushed the dns cache, rebooted my cable modem, my pc... I have no idea, it's all very odd and annoying. -

Non steam version. I was afraid that someone was going to suggest that. Post #2 of this thread suggests that while this might get me to the latest version for now, it doesn't remove the problem. I certainly don't want to be downloading ~7.5gb of data for each and every update! -

For whatever reason I have never had that option in my start menu items, this is all I have in mine. I am running DCS_Updater.exe update from the command line to try and force it to pick up the latest version, but no dice :( -

Thanks for the tip... My log contains many instances of the following block of text I can ping update.eagle.ru ok, as the logs suggest, as I'm connecting, but getting a 400 bad request error. The other two update servers simply cannot be contacted. -

Ditto! Getting nothing but cannot resolve hostname errors from the updater :( I've just purchased the Mi-8 in the sale and I can't get it installed because the base DCS World version is too low ;( I've never had any issues with the updater before, and my software hasn't changed, same AV and firewall setup as I had previously. Also, like the OP said, I cannot get the in game module manager to connect either. I'm currently running 1.28.27203, and seem unable to upgrade from there. -

OMG! That's awesome. I was considering posting a feature request for that very thing, just like how Strike Fighters 2 works... -

Glad to see that you're still working on this mod, the phase II stuff looks even better! Anything that can breathe new life into the terrain is a massive plus in my book. -
Improved Towns & Villages Mod

Been playing using this mod tonight, and I just wanted to say thanks Highwayman-Ed! It makes such a difference to the look of the environment. No more nasty straight line texture boundaries at the edges of towns :) So far everything looks great, I've not spotted any real problems. Just did a Huey free flight around Tiblisi and even the big urban area looks grand :) EDIT: Oh yeah, I'd defo appreciate a download of just the textures you've modified. I understand why you've bundled everything up, but personally I like to manage my own mods with JSGME. -
Well that is odd. The only other suggestion I can make is to remove/rename any copies of my HeadTracker.dll file to see if it's mere presence is causing the issue...
-
Damn. Sounds like you're doing all the right things! Which leaves me stumped... The only other thing I can think of is to get you to look at the "TrackIr Aiming" option under Options -> Special -> UH-1H. I have that option enabled, what do you have it set to? Perhaps it's worth flipping the value from what you currently have set to see what happens?
-
Hmmmm. Can you explain what steps you following when attempting to mouse aim in the gunner positions? I also use FreeTrack and it's working perfectly so long as you pause head tracking and toggle the mouse control...
-
Having just got the Huey module I became aware of the issues relating to the door gunner controls when using head tracking. So I took a look at my code to see if I could figure out why it was causing problems. It turned out that the fix was pretty simple, so here's a fresh build of the DLL that, at least for me, solves the problem. HeadTracker Binaries.zip HeadTracker Sources.zip To summarize all the points that seem to be swirling about with head tracking in DCS World 1.2.6 and the Huey here are a few key points... * The head tracker files need to be placed directly into the bin folder now. * To use your mouse to control guns you need to setup a shortcut/button to temporarily disable FreeTrack. * You then need to press LALT-C to toggle the mouse control. There is also a special option for the Huey module to allow TrackIr aiming. I currently have this set to enabled and mouse aiming works in game (following the points above). I haven't tested what happens with the option disabled... Fingers crossed this will work for everyone else, let me know how you get on :)

See here for a solution (hopefully, need others to test it) http://forums.eagle.ru/showpost.php?p=1888108&postcount=18

View issues controlling guns
samtheeagle replied to Vintovka's topic in Controller Questions and Bugs
Ok, so that turned out to be an easy fix! :D Updated binaries and sources can be found in the original thread here: http://www.forum.lockon.ru/showpost.php?p=1888102&postcount=147 I've had a quick test this morning and all looks good!
