Yes and Yes ish, but don't quote me on that.... I don't think they are actually being utilized for the AG role, that would be the Tornado GR4's. Tranche 2 (block 5) aircraft have been delivered to the RAF and they did complete Green flag (bombing exercise). So some at least are capable of A2G)

The explosions get less violent as you get more hours. My head still explodes on occasion, but I wear a track hat which keeps the Grey matter in:-) I approached it the following way: 1. Set yourself a goal and read the relevant bits of the manual. (fly a basic circuit was my first one) 2. When you've achieved the goal and sort of know what your doing for that one task, do a training mission which contains it. (you may of missed something or they may be a better way of doing it) 3. Make sure you can do the task without referring to the manual. 4. Move on to the next task and goal. My learning curve went something like: 1. Startup 2. Circuits (take off and landing) 3. Navigation (basic pre-defined way point navigation, HUD nav mode, switching waypoints) 4. Using the targeting pod 5. Using Mavs 6. Guns 7. CCIP, CCRP bombing mode with dumb bombs 8. Using GBU's, CCRP, etc etc I've done over 200 hours so far (all the betas) and I'm still having to learn AND re-learn stuff, but the more hours you do the simpler it gets. Creating missions just for the task/goal also help as you can quickly re-fly them after your head explodes and nothing else does.

Believe me, this is not buggy, if you want to see buggy, come round my office and I'll show you stuff a major technology company (who shal remain nameless) has inflicted on the unsuspecting public. There were no "show stoppers", no endemic stability issues and no major performance problems. If I could count on that level of release, I could stop taking my tablets.

JDAM / stand off weapons - CCRP? really?
pyates2104 replied to Dropbear's topic in DCS: A-10C Warthog
Yep your right.... 400-450 kts entry speed with a 3g pull up is probably a bit to speedy for an A10 -

Toss. In a word, you could use a toss (loft) bomb method. Not sure if the A10C avionics HUD q replicates this or even if its possible in a real A10C... but this would be the method of choice to deliver at max range. Other bombers use this method widely for dumb bombs. It's not that accurate, but in theory, this would not be a problem for a JDAM as you only need to deliver it into the envelope. -
P.S I'm not bitter at all:smilewink:

Oh dear....I think you'll find you're still living with your mum in 15 years time. Basically if you manage to get your CPL (or frozen ATPL), and thats going to cost around 50k! you'll still find it very hard to get a descent paid flying job without a lot of hours on type. The good money is with large operators on long hall, and even then you won't be any where near 6 figures until your a Captain. You won't get a look in with the big carriers unless you ether a) ex military or b) you get on one of their apprenticeship schemes. (which usually require a degree and are hotly contested) Actually you may find that some ATPL's actually pay for the privilege of a type rating and work for free! So you end up paying "Them" 30k for a 737 type rating and flying for them free for a year. If you prepared to live like a student and have no money, just for the love of flying then good luck to you.

Cheers Geskes, Problem solved.

DCS A10 C release version - DSMS update after ground crew stores load. In short, DSMS doesn't get updated after you change your load via the ground crew...I wouldn't actually expect it to by magic, but aren't the ground crew meant to upload a new DSMS data package? or can you as the pilot? or do you have to enter the whole load manually? (PAIN)

OK, this is the situation: It doesn't work, I've tried everything suggested in this thread and searched the whole board for "doesn't work" and "tweaked something". I am loosing patience. Shall I buy a new computer and start tweaking from scratch or will the "format c:" command help? I've read a lot about the format thing and it's suggested for all sorts of problems. P.S its slower now than before. Here are my system specs: Dell (A blue shiny one) box about 1 1/2 ft high, Monitor - Yes, Windows (came with the blue shiny box) Memory - 500 gBites, graphics - 1280x800

Please tell me your being ironic......or is this thread a mixture between irony and seriousness, It's hard to tell sometimes....ho hum, I'm laughing anyway......

I tweaked some things and it didn't work, what do I do now? P.S Didn't backup things that I tweaked, forgot.

The runway your instructed to use will vary according to the wind. I believe this IS modelled in DCS but have not tested it.

I'm not sure what you mean by "heads of in a crazy direction"... I think what you are assuming is that if the ADI bar is in the middle, you must be heading in the right direction, this is not correct. You must be heading in the runway direction, you then make small adjustments to keep the localizer bar in the middle. The other thing to consider is that you must have the correct course set in the HSI, this should be set to runway heading. If you read the ILS navigation section of the manual it will give you more information. Basically you need to draw a virtual diagram in your head. Runway heading Heading you approached the ILS/TACAN beacon or initial point from. Heading you need to fly "downwind" in order to setup for the IP Heading you have to turn to in order to intercept the localizer You really really should do some study on ILS approaches, there's plenty of information out there and you'll better understand what people are saying in the forum. A start would be learning to read an ILS Instrument approach chart like this one: It looks complicated but actually it isn't. In DCS you don't even have to fly a proper procedure, you just have to know what to do when you near the approach point ATC vector you to. Basically you then turn to runway heading and use the bars in the ADI to keep on track. I don't think the A10C has ils bars in the HUD, you need to look at the ADI. (A10A in FC2 was a simplification) No, you need a different frequency for each runway (the same runway in different directions is a different runway) I don't think so, again if you go to map view (F10) and click on an airport, it gives you nav aid information. I'm sure someone will but in and tell you which Airports have ILS and what their frequency is.

It's already been done, UK Channel 5, the gadget show. One of the presenters with 2 months experience on X-Plane had to take off and land in a 172. The instructor was there as a safety pilot but gave no control inputs.

The "Passing" of an Aircraft type is always a sad occasion, especially one that has served for so long. The "Passing" of an airbase is equally sad and does effect jobs and prosperity in the area. This is not new however and is not restricted to these latest round of cuts. I don't think anybody really thought that with the amount of savings needed, some aircraft and bases would not have to go. Nimrod is basically life ex and was a prime candidate. Together with the disaster ridden upgrade program which was out of control even by MOD standards, I totally understand the decision.
-
To do an ils approach properly you really need an approach chart. Basically you head for the TACAN and do a series of turns and legs that will but you in a position to capture the ILS localizer at a set distance and height from the runway threshold. You then capture the glide path and mosey on down it until you hear a bump and you hit the runway.:pilotfly:(CatIII C) DCS is not FSX so the main aim of the sim is not to enable people to practice ILS CAT 2 and 3 approaches in bad weather. That said you can simulate it if you want but you'll need to do some reading on ILS and instrument approaches. Air Tragic in DCS will simply vector you to an Initial point for the approach, the rest is down to you.

CBU-87 "5-mil" CCIP: Invalid fuzing
pyates2104 replied to kingneptune117's topic in Bugs and Problems
So... It looks like it's a radar prox fuse: http://www.vipersinthestorm.com/html/weapons_bunker_-_page_3.html -
I suspect they also create considerable revenue by selling solutions to the military... http://simhq.com/_air13/air_440a.html Without that, I doubt we would see such high fidelity simulations from them.
-
Apart from the change log what has changed for beta 3? I'll start: 1. Pitot heat switch is now on be default for runway and air starts.

pyates2104 replied to kingneptune117's topic in Bugs and Problems
Nice.... but what does the B after the 500 HOF setting mean? I noticed also there is A on some other HOF settings. Also is the HOF based on an internal (to the munition) barometric sensor? or is it radar alt based? (In Game) -
Read the report...... It tells you everything you need to know. And ultimately, yes the crew did screw up. They crew were human, just like the passengers. Humans screw up every now and again.

Like most accidents, it had multiple contributory factors: Engineer leaving the switch in manual. Crew not checking it Crew not reacting in the correct way to the pressurization warnings Flight attendants not contacting the cockpit when the emergency oxy was deployed All in all very sad, but unfortunately fairly common.
