Very Low Performance with Brand New System
mrbinkels replied to dok_rp's topic in Lock On: Flaming Cliffs 1 & 2
I'm actually referring to the original poster, dok_rp. Your post is too long for me to read. I lose interest after the first four or five lines. Nothing personal though. Duh I saw where I quoted you, musta been too early in the morning, my apologies. -

On another note, Install the 9.8 drivers, which are the latest. Install over whatever you're running now even if 9.8 are installed. Make sure you uncheck folding app that installs unless you want to install it. Make sure shadows are on all planar. -

Which drivers are you using? -
so now, is the i7 meeting expectations?

I completely agree with sinelnic. A few years ago I upgraded my video card (in a old system) and was disappointed with the no gain in performance(FPS). BS def is CPU bound. -
Anybody else try the advanced ai? Still no cloud flickering. Hope these work for other people as well.
-
Quick update before I walk out of the house. Advance ai works for me now. I tried two replays with no CTD or any other errors. Still feels smooth and once again the 9.8 gave a modest boost to FPS(1-2FPS). I'll do some more testing later tonight. YMMV

Well I installed on my 790FX platform and felt I did get a small boost in performance. The Dragon platform referenced in the first post apparently is the 790GX chipset. http://game.amd.com/us-en/unlock_dragon.aspx

He's also the father of the concept called OODA loop, which we all do on a daily basis in some fashion. O- observe O- orientate D- decide A- act He would exclaim, "if you get inside someone's OODA loop then you can beat them at whatever it is", whether it's flying, close quarters combat, or even debating.

Odie072, Make sure you research as EtherealN stated previously. I went with AMD products because it saved me quite a bit of money in relation to attainable performance. We all know Intel is champ when it comes to raw cpu power. However, IMO, at the end of the day, when all the components are put together, the small increase in performance you may gain in some applications with Intel is not worth spending the extra $$$ for a top of the line intel cpu/mobo combo. In my upgrade/situation I was not going to settle for anything less than the top of the line AMD or Intel cpu combo. However spending $1300 on a Intel cpu/mobo was just not cost effective. Although I will admit it was very tempting. So in the end, digest as much info as you can and make an informed decision that you will be satisfied with. IMO you can't go wrong with your choices there. -

Sigh, well you def provided more detailed information in your response. Although arguments can be made on both sides as to any of your points, however let's stay on topic instead of picking apart recommendations shall we? Recommendations is what the gentlemen asked for. -

Check out my sig but get the 4890 instead of the 4870X2 and you'll come in under or right at your budget. I run BS at 1920X1200 with AF at 16X and AA at 8X with NPs. You could go with Nvidia for your video card. There's a few post about rig setups here in the forums, but can be hard to find. Good luck and welcome! Oops almost forgot, YMMV -
My goodness does this guy not have a right to state his opinion? What difference does it make when he actually "joined" the forums the point I believe he is trying to make, albeit bad and the wrong way, is that he has invested (whatever invested means to you whether money, time or something else) in this sim and he would like to get some type of update. Yes he could of searched the forum and probably found his answer as well, not to mention looking at the similiar threads at the bottom of the page. I'm sure a portion of this community would be interested in a status update on the patch. If anything this post has stimulated conversation. Anyway just adding my two cents to this post when really GGTharos's post would have been entirely sufficient without the piling on. GO MAGIC!!!!

Your going to be asked what hardware you're using but I get this error when I try to run Catalyst AI on advanced.
-
Yes there is a way. There's a post here somewhere talking about editing a file. Gotta go to work right now, I'm sure somebody will post it shortly.

Which "Latest" ATI Catalyst Driver to use?
mrbinkels replied to Kilo_60's topic in DCS: Ka-50 Black Shark
I had AA working fine when i was running Xp with 9.X drivers. I'm using the 9.5 beta drivers with no issues. -
I would like to add that hovering is like balancing a broom stick on your index finger. In "real life", the cyclic is always moving in minute movements at a hover. A lot of people tend to get squirrely(sic) as they get closer to the ground and start over controlling (including myself). You must look at the horizon, as well as all around, as said previously or you will roll over on the tarmac. Hope this helps.

He has tried for two weeks with no response to his email. He's had 6 or 7 responses here the last 24 hours, albeit not helpful but responsive!! Is this an example of the squeaky wheel getting the grease? Not quite yet. :megalol:

Anyone running BS on the new AMD cpu?
mrbinkels replied to mrbinkels's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
I don't want to sound like a fanboy, but at high res gaming, 1920x1200 or higher, which is what I base ALL of my computers needs off of, intel has none or negligible speed over an AM3. There are plenty of graphs that go either way in this argument. Now we can get into the whole argument about low res settings to take the gpu out of the equation but the fact remains that the FPS improvement does not warrant the price. BTW I use "argument" in the context of a civil conversation as to not fall out of favor with the ones we don't speak of. :) -
Anyone running BS on the new AMD cpu?
mrbinkels replied to mrbinkels's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
I've been with intel since the 90's. The price difference was enough to turn me off to intel this upgrade. AMD hit a home run(IMO) with the AM3 cpu. I've seen no REAL world numbers that overwhelmed me enough to pay so much more for an intel system. -
Iinstalled the 9.5 beta a couple of weeks ago. http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=40724 So far so good.

Is that the 6002 build or the RTM?

Lockon and BS are more cpu dependent then GPU dep. and benefit greatly from a cpu upgrade. I went from a x1950 to a 3850 hoping to see a frame rate increase but had none. After doing some more research I realized my P4 3.0 cpu was not geting the job done. Did a complete upgrade, see sig below, to fix my low fps issue.
