  1. Sorry, but another question coming up. (I was reading back through this thread and this part in bold caught my eye. Don't know how I missed it earlier.) My build is centered around a 9600k and a Z390 board (probably MSI Z390 MEG ACE). Would an OC'd 9600k have enough poop to drive a 2080 Ti? I would probably just stick with the best 2080 (non-Ti) if I had to spend more on the next tier of CPU. I have to draw the spending line somewhere, lol. Again, monitor isn't decided, and I'll use my current one (in my reply prior to this post). Once I decide on my hardware, I'll have you guys recommend the best monitor to pair with it later on. ETA: You know what, since it's getting close, I'll just post my preliminary build idea for you guys now. I always welcome your insight as this is my first PC build. I have a lot of RGB as I probably won't build another PC for some time and wanted something....fun. ;) CPU: i5-9600k Cooler: Cooler Master - MasterLiquid ML360R RGB 66.7 CFM Liquid CPU Cooler MoBo: MSI - MEG Z390 ACE ATX LGA1151 Motherboard RAM: Corsair - Vengeance RGB Pro 32 GB (2 x 16 GB) DDR4-3200 Memory Storage: TBD, probably a couple SSDs. Most likely OS and DCS on an M.2 GPU: TBD Case: Cooler Master MasterBox MB530P PSU: EVGA - SuperNOVA G3 750 W 80+ Gold Certified Fully-Modular ATX Power Supply
  2. Thanks for the replies, guys. Very tough decision. Just trying to make sense of it all. And I do apologize as I've had a couple of threads with various PC questions...it's just that I don't know what I don't know. Ya know? I am planning on building this PC, a HOTAS (Warthog probably), pedals, TrackIR (to start), and a head set. VR and a monitor will come later on. I decided I'll spend more for those listed peripherals now and continue using my current monitor until I figure out what I want - it's 1920x1080 60hz 27". I'll probably just have you guys give me some options based on the build I finalize, lol. I'm more confused than anything after my monitor thread!
  3. Which 2080 Ti or clock level would you suggest I look at? Are the gains in DCS worth it versus a 2080?
  4. Interesting, thanks Headwarp! It's hard enough deciding if I should stay with a 2080, or make the jump into 2080 Ti territory. If I do that, I certainly don't want a card that would be mediocre. I figured there was a reason for that lower price, haha. Gah, I hate making decisions like this.
  5. Well, reading the individual card description shows it is VR ready. I'm confused, but that happens easily lol.
  6. I was comparing random models on the EVGA website when I stumbled on this. Now, this is the least expensive 2080 Ti on the EVGA site, but it says it's "Not VR ready." Does this mean it's not capable at all? Or does this mean there would be extra steps involved? I'm still toying with parts for my build (late February!) and am dipping my toes in 2080 Ti territory. Just seeing what's out there.
  7. Thanks for the discussion, guys. Sounds like I'll be looking at 60Hz then!
  8. Ok, let me ask you guys this: Are all monitors adjustable to their refresh rate? Are they all fixed? If some are fixed and some are adjustable, how will I know that when shopping for them? Reading about the TrackIR issues got me wondering.
  9. Let me know how you like that new monitor! I'm going to look at both monitors you posted, thanks. ETA: Wow, that LG looks amazing! I'm afraid my wife would shoot me if I spent that much on it though, haha.
  10. Man, I'm glad I posed this question to you guys because I'm finding out a lot of new stuff! I would've been so mad at myself to have bought a 144hz monitor only to find it doesn't work well with TrackIR. I'll browse through that thread you posted. Thanks for sharing that!
  11. Hekktor, thank you for taking the time to respond! It's certainly confusing trying to figure out the best avenue to take. 1440p is where I was leaning, so sounds like I'm on the right track. It sounds like 144 Hz benefits the FPS games more then, is that right? I do plan on putting games like the Battlefield series on, but this will ultimately be designed for DCS and BMS. As far as the 9600K goes, I chose it as it seems to deliver fast performance for a bargain. Since games don't seem to take advantage of higher cores (yet), I figured this would be good for now. I wanted a nice MoBo so I could add a better CPU in the future if the games take advantage of them. However, this is all still really new to me. I've learned an awful lot in the last few weeks, but I still feel like I don't know anything sometimes, lol!
  12. Hey everyone, I'm planning a PC build for DCS, but I'm having a hard time figuring out what monitor, size, resolution, etc. I should expect out of a system based on my component choices. This is my first time building a PC. Here's what I'm thinking for the main components: - i5-9600k - Some form of Z390 MoBo, probably an MSI MPG Pro Carbon or MSI MEG ACE. - 32 GB of 3200 RAM - RTX 2080 I don't plan on VR immediately. I would plan some upgrades down the road for that once VR tech advances a little more. I'll plan on TrackIR for sure. I was thinking about a larger monitor, maybe 32" or so, and I kinda like how the curved screens look. Also plan on 144 Hz. What capabilities would this machine have in DCS? Thanks!
  13. Hi all, I'm new to the forum. I don't have DCS yet (DYING to play) as I'm working on specs to build a computer worthy of playing it. I'm hoping that will happen in the next month or two. I've been playing Falcon BMS over the last few months. My current computer can barely play that, lol. I'm a real-world pilot (civil) and love these military sims, as it's something I never got to do. Happy to be here, and looking forward to meeting and playing with you guys!
  14. Hey guys, I'm new to the forum. This is my first post, actually! I've been reading through the hardware section a lot as I'm preparing to build a new computer here soon, with the sole purpose of it being to play DCS. I've been following this CPU discussion closely. Right now I've got my build spec'd out with the i5-9600k 6-core (3.7 GHz and 4.6 Turbo), however, I've also considered the i7-9700k as well. It is about another $150 USD more though. Is it worth the $150 increase? Which do you suggest? For reference, here is more of what I'm thinking of going with at this point, all subject to change: Also planning on either an RTX 2070/2080, or 1080 Ti. Will have 32GB RAM @3200. Mobo probably MSI MPG Z390 Gaming Edge. Was hoping for 1440p @ 144 Hz (need a monitor as well), but I'm not really sure of the capabilities of this system to determine a monitor yet. VR sometime in the future, but not near future (I could beef up my system a little later on to support VR). Definitely TrackIR. I just want a system that plays DCS smoothly and as beautifully as possible. :) Had some guys on another forum (they play DCS, might even be here!) give some helpful info, but thought I'd check with the members here as well. Thanks! ETA: ....aaaaand didn't notice this CPU discussion was actually in a motherboard thread. I see the CPU thread just blow this one. Whoops, sorry!
