1. Never the less, asfik a trained pilot should have little problem landing unguided weapons on his target without dumping his entire ammo load on it. Im sure there is some technique to doing this that I have no clue about. Im also curious, is the KA-50 not capable of in-flight refueling and will this be incorporated into the sim at some point? Back when the DOS version of EF2000 came out, I spent hours just getting this challenge down from an hour to a few minutes but it was exciting to do.
2. Does anyone know if there are any supplimental training manuals or weapons training manuals that anyone has written up or if the DEVs plan on adding any combat tactics / training to the manuals? The combat chapter in the book was one of the smallest chapters which was disapointing considering the entire purpose of this helicopter is combat employment.
3. Hi all. Ive read the manual back to front and flown several campaign and standalone\training missions. The manual does not give much information for training purposes of non guided weapons and neither do the training missions. Ive tried quite some time to get accurate target hits with anything unguided. Rockets seem to take approximately 1 sec of depression of the trigger to weapons release and I cant get the chopper to remain steady on target for more than an instant which equals a miss. The only time Ive hit anything with rockets is when Im at point blank range or firing medium or long streams of rockets which eats ammo way too fast. Secondly, there is zero information on how to deploy other weapons like the dumb bombs and anti tank stuff. There is also no information on how to use the HUD in standby mode which is (in my understanding) the mode required to deploy these. Lastly slightly off topic but still somewhat related, I cant seem to deploy any weapons during a night mission because I have to use NV goggles and can no longer see the targeting monitor, ABRIS or HUD to aim or lock on anything. Ive tried playing with contrast and brightness knobs but didnt help at all. If I dont use NV goggles for the trade off of helmet mounted tracking and being able to see instruments, well Ill probably end up in the side of a mountain shortly after takeoff.
4. Ive been flying the Dusk mission several times and cant seem to get past it. Everytime either myself or my wingman gets blown out of the sky. The last time I tried my wingman got hit and left. All major air defenses were taken out and about half of the primary target (tanks and trucks) before I ran out of ammo. Wingman flew off to who knows where and I returned to base for rearm and refuel but when I got back I had to use night vision gogles and I cant seem to see anything on my abris at night much less target and fire. Needless to say I got killed again. Has anyone completed this mission on one run? I run out of ammo after I take out air defense and half way thru primary target. (approximately 10 tanks) Any help or advice would be much appreciated. I hate having to refly the previous mission over and over again since its a 1 hour flight.
5. yep i have been keeping an eye on both inbox and bulk mail
6. I cant activte blackshark. When I first bought the sim I installed it on Windows Vista64. I also downloaded Windows 7 beta and installed on that OS but I had several problems with it. I reinstalled the OS and blackshark several times trying to fix the issues which left me with 0 activations left. Unfortunately one of my hard drives took a dump and destroyed the data on both of my drives forcing me to reinstall Windows Vista and remove the bad drive. Now I cant reactivate my sim. I have emailed support@digitalcombatsimulator.com twice with no response. Any help would be appreciated. I havent been able to fly for a couple months now.
7. MILESTONE ACHIEVED Hi all, Might not seem like much but after 3 weeks of research and troubleshooting, I have finally made progess with the USB controller. I started out knowing nothing about USB and finally have successful enumeration of my microcontroller as a USB gaming device. Just a quick update for all you. While I dont have a physical pit yet, Ive been designing the electronics portion first and after many hours of failure, Windows Vista now talks to my controller and I can now program in all the buttons and functions I desire. So sorry I dont have pics but the programming is the second major half to getting a pit to talk to the computer and I just made some really good progress. Ill keep you all posted.
8. no Im currently in the middle of the first campaign on the Dusk mission. It doesnt seem to matter what mission I load tho including instant action. I get a msg that DCS has encountered an error during the mission load and then it just goes back to the launcher screen. Again if I load the game installed on my other harddrive it works fine. But that installation doesnt have my pilot logbook or campaign status on it.
9. I have been running BS under Vista64 for some time now. But now no matter how many times I reboot, the sim crashes while its trying to load from the launcher. I have another copy of BS on my other drive that loads fine on the same machine and same OS so it would seem that my primary installation is corrupted somehow. How can I save my profile, setup, logbook, and campaign status before trying to reinstall? I really really dont want to start all over in the campaign.
10. well I dont know how the export file will handle that stuff. Im hoping it tells which lights are lit at any given time including flashing. I setup my panel so that the leds will do anything that the microcontroller tells it whether it be flashing or solid on/off. Im a novice with c++ and know nothing of LUA scripting. Plus the microcontroller conects to the pc via usb and i know nothing of creating a USB HID device and drivers. So I still have a shit ton of research to do.
11. yeah I dont know about that either. I know there are some master warning lights elsewhere that are red. Unless someone else knows let us in on the secret. It wont be difficult to swap out for other colors if needed.
12. Throttle Wanted. Suncom SFS throttle. Working condition or not. I just need the mechanics of the split throttle. I can fix the electronics to suit my needs. I will pay by paypal. Pls send IM if you know how to get ahold of one. Thanks.
13. My first panel in progress. The Caution panel and the microcontroller
14. I havent got a price quote yet but Hirevsims.com makes an a-10c hotas setup that I plan on buying. I have started building the instrumentation for my pit. If the above panel dimensions are fairly close Ill live with that. I plan to make the pit around the instruments so I am working on the electronics for my first panel; the Caution Panel. I also purchased a 32bit usb microcontroller that I am doing a lot of research and testing on that I plan to interface with everything. Im also restudying my c++ manuals so if anyone has information on what files are used for input/output in the sim and how to manipulate it I would appreciate that. Does anyone know if mfd/egi/rwr will be outputable in DCS A10? Im trying to plan on what I will and wont be able to interface.
15. Hi all. I have been seriously considering building a cockpit for the A-10C model. Does anyone know how I could get the dimensions of the pit as well as photos of what instrumentation/ switches and panels are in it? Any help would be appreciated since it seems that both DCS and Fighter-ops intend to create simulation of one.
16. if understand correctly its used mainly for takeoff where extra engine power is required in the event of a flameout
17. definitely pedals. near impossible to fly a helicopter without em unless your used to twisting joystick handles.
18. You can map the throttle to an axis on your joystick. I have mine mapped on one of the rotaries of my hotas cougar.
19. I currently run a qx9750 quad core extreme that I OC to 3.83Ghz with 4gig mem and GTX280 video card. According to BS when I load up the shooting range mission, in cockpit fps gets as low as 20 fps. I run at high settings 1920x1080 on my hdtv but no antialiasing or anisotropic filtering. Now I realize this sim is probably heavily cpu dependant but I thought maybe an sli setup might give me an extra 10 fps. So $1000 later I rebuilt my system with new mobo and 2 gtx280 in sli configuration. After loading the game and comparing fps with all the different sli settings in the Nvidia control panel I managed to gain 1-2 fps. After a full day of messing with it, I returned my $1000 pile of junk and went back to my original configuration and decided to squeeze as much out of the processor as I could. Comparing the graphics of this sim to a game such Crysis or Farcry 2, it does seem to me that graphics arent likely that demanding of a video card with just a fraction of the stuff to draw. But I wanted to get some other peoples experience and find out if anyone else was getting the same kind of results with sli especially with post Geforce 9x series cards or if I screwed something up and didnt have the settings right.
20. Installation in a non default directory is probably the only thing I havent tried. Ill give it a shot. As far as my OS I have 2 seperate HD with 1 OS on each so Im not really sharing partitions and I havent had any other problems booting into windows 7. I have however used up all except 2 of my activations between so many reinstalls and yes 2 activations are because of 2 OS installs. Oh well. live and learn huh. Hope I dont have to rebuy the game. The problem tho really feels like a graphics driver problem.
21. Hello, First off I would like to say I have a seperate installation on the same machine with windows vista x64 and have no problems at all. Windows 7 on the other hand has been problem after problem. All my drivers are current. Ive installed as administrator. Both DCS and Launcher are run as administrator. UAC is turned off. At first I had a lot of problems as others have with the launcher failing to initialize. This seems to be an on and off problem but when it does run, the main launcher screens are extremely buggy and very slow. I get video corruption when the mouse is moved. Going from one screen to another takes a long time and changing any settings like keyboard commands takes multiple mouse clicks and waiting for the setting to change several seconds. If I try changing video settings the game usually crashes. Starting a mission will 50% of the time result in the game erroring out while the other 50% the sim starts as normal. Ive tried multiple installs, multiple video drivers and even fresh OS installs. Ive tried everything Ive seen in the forums but havent found a fix. Maybe a windows 7 beta thing but some people seem to run on it no problem. QX9750 Extreme 4gig memory Gforce gtx 280
22. Hi all. Im new to this sim and must say Im very impressed. I have tried many sims in the past and lost interest pretty quick because it just didnt feel real enough. This is the first sim Ive seen that details everything. Im not really a very experienced simmer but I have flown on several occasions in real life though I do not have a pilots license. I have pretty much read the entire flight manual that comes with this and after flying a few weeks in this sim I would say that i understand about 90% of it. There are some flight systems I dont fully understand yet and I think I need someone more experienced to coach me on some of it. I have heard of online squadrons if anyone knows how I can get invloved with one would be appreciated. Second question is a technical one. I bought 61" dlp hdtv and Nvidia's 3D glasses specifically for this sim. I have to say the effect is absolutely breathtaking. I actually feel kinda cramped in the cockpit and all the avionics feel within arms reach. This was totally worth the investment but theres one little problem. The mouse crosshair appears to be rendered at screen depth and not the depth of the cockipt. This causes the appearence of two crosshairs because your eyes are no longer focused at screen depth and where the actual mouse position is right between the 2 crosshairs. Is there a way to change the depth of where the crosshair is rendered? I can still fly with like this but its a little more challenging.
