  1. Perhaps this might answer that statement.
  2. ahh yeah get those 2 terms mixed up a lot. I really doubt TMs new stick will have FFB. But I was wondering if the real plane had FSSB. I didnt think so but I was trying to decide whether to mod my stick with FSSB or hall sensors. Either way with the new news of A-10 stick I might just install industrial grade pots into my current stick since it would be far cheaper than modding it. If A-10 does use FSSB I will get that mod but from pictures it doesnt appear that it uses that.
  3. A-10 doesnt use FFB does it? I thought it was a more conventional stick.
  4. My experience in campaign mode was that red was friendly and green is enemy. Took awhile to get used to it but if I killed any red guys I would get a message about killing friendlies
  5. The airforce is moving to unmanned fighter aircraft. They are in development.
  6. No matter what material you use the blades will flex in flight. First couple times I went up in a commercial airliner I was freaked by how much the wings swayed up and down just while rolling on the ground. In flight it was smooth. But heli blades are constantly changing angles over the course of a single revolution and I dont think it would be possible elliminate flexing. Even if you did, it would likely cause excessive stress on the main shaft because something has to give or it would just break apart from the violent forces being placed on it.
  7. FSX and X-9 use a different approach when it comes to scenery. I think in BS all the scenery is loaded at the beginning of the flight but Im not sure about that. However FSX and X-9 model the entire world and FSX graphics at least dont look too bad but they load textures and maps as you reach them in flight. Its very noticeable when you enter a new metropolis area watch the city load and suddenly appear when your within 10miles. Obviously that loading detracts from the realism but it is still an option to get fairly detailed maps over the span of the entire planet. I know X-9 comes with well over 2GB of terrain data.
  8. Ha I remember that game. Couldnt ever get very far in it but it was awesome. Airwolf was my favorite tv show. With few exceptions processors since the 486 days were 64bit and capable handling 64bit instructions. I have been hearing rumors that a 128bit processor is under development that will make todays processors look like a joke. But I doubt the consumer will see one any time soon. I think initially it will be offered as a high end server chip.
  9. I found a website some time ago where you can purchase 6DOF platforms for home use. Unfortunately they ran $10-20,000. Not practical enough for me but would be sweet. Still if I was gonna blow that kinda money I would do it in a real plane. Cant beat the real thing. Which makes me wonder. A lot of people here are real life commerical and military pilots. If you do that for a living, why would you waiste your time on home simulation?
  10. Ive emailed cubspilot guy twice and havent received a reply in almost a week so Im not sure what the deal is with that. I did get a reply from Ian Johnson tho.
  11. This may or may not be suitable for what you want. Its a good price tho. I dont know if mfd is exportable yet tho. http://www.scsimulations.com/store/products/Samsung-U70-USB-LCD.html
  12. Ive been battling this one in my mind for some time now and wanted to get some opinions. Which do you think would be more immersive? 1 display in full 3D effect using Nvidias 3D Vision or 3 displays besides each other I dont think its possible to have both especially since I think you have to have Nvidia video cards to have the 3D vision. The peripheral vision is nice with 3 displays but you still dont get the full 3D immersion which is invaluable for judging altitude visually. Ive used both types of systems and its a tough call.
  13. I dont usually have that particular problem but Ive always had problems with sleep feature in every version of windows Ive used. Its a mixture of Windows and lousy firmware in the bios. I generally have stability problems or devices that dont get recognized after its woke up and even when my pc is asleep it wakes itself up all the time. I stopped using it. Fans are cheap and pc doesnt draw a lot of power when idle. I mainly was worried about my hard drive not getting any rest, but in reality Ive only had 2 hard drives fail in my life time and eventually Ill move to SSD so its not a big deal.
  14. Anyone know if the Cougar uber2 nxt mods are still available or where to get them? Frugals is down for who knows how long and I cant find a website. I also tried emailing the guy that does the hall upgrades but I still havent got a reply.
  15. I tried messing with deadzones but the spiking is way to bad to be compensated for in that way. Problem is I dont really fully understand the hall effect or what hardware is required. I see lotsa sensors out there but I think they are based on the assumption that you are using a magnetic device which the cougar is not without some kind of modification
  16. I have been using the old cougar for sometime now without issue. However recently, my x and y axis are so jumpy near center line that it is impossible for me to fly the sim. Even if I manage to trim the chopper, just bumping the stick will pretty much put me into the ground. The issue of course are the pots. I could replace the pots with higher quality ones but a lot of people are using hall sensors which are extrememly accurate. I was wondering if anyone had any particular set of sensors that worked well for them and where you could buy them?
  17. All fixed wing aircraft basically behave the same. Not saying that if you can fly a cessna you can fly a 747. Same goes for helicopters but the same physics apply no matter what u fly. All turbines basically operate the same whether its a turbofan, turbojet, or turboprop no matter what aircraft they are in. The only differences between aircraft startups are how automated the start sequence is. So once you understand how general aircraft systems and communications work, the differences between aircraft are mostly in the specialized avionics and of course the flight characteristics. So personally I dont think its a big deal going from one aircraft to another. 90% of your controls that you use all the time are on the HOTAS. If you understand the mechanics of a turbine, you can probably start one up in just about any aircraft without looking at the manual. As for the rest of the avionics, well lets just say I hope you like to read.
  18. wow excellent. thnx. another book to pile away in the old registry. maybe itll make sense aftwerward
  19. I dont really understand any of the LUA stuff. my experience is around C++ which is close to C#. Im not sure about sending info to the sim but what I had in mind was to use the export file for all outgoing data while using keyboard and joystick emulators for all buttons and switches. That way all inputs could be assigned directly in the controls input page in the sim. This might make the programming simpler since u would only be programming for the outputs
  20. Is there somewhere I can find out how to program LUA scripts cause outside of visual C++ I dont understand the other programming languages and how to interact with the data.
  21. Sound cards dont use up enough bandwidth take full advantage of pci-express. I personally just use onboard sound but external sound card is supposed to use less cpu resources
  22. my understanding is that SLI can only be done with 2 identical chips that configured the same way i.e. GTX 280 w GTX 280 with same core/memory frequencies. Not sure if brands can be different.
  23. good stuff. So after learning all this usb programming stuff and Visual C++ and hoping to avoid TCP/IP I have to learn that too now after all. Im gonna get myself into a programming mess that Ill never be able to get out of. I was wondering that same question too tho. Feel free to post examples of TCP/IP communications lol. I dont know the first thing about its protocols or electrical characteristics.
  24. coolness. I found a real a version of the 6000ft vspeed indicator for $25. Im curious which would be better altho I wouldnt have to reengineer the one u posted.
  25. Up to you but heres a good link if you want something realistic. http://www.dhs-electronic.de/index2.php?id=200&lng=en They are F-16 rudders but should be plenty scale for A-10. Stick is same as F-16. Throttle is pretty much the same as the F-15 setup. Cant tell you x,y distances but its not FCCS so I cant imagine the Thrustmaster Cougar being too far off as far as throws. If your building a stick that goes down to the floor like I plan too, Im just going to gut the cougar and use its parts.
