Ive been reading different forums trying to decide the best way to interface. What Im currently doing is using 1 PIC controller and trying to multiplex all the inputs/outputs onto 1 chip using address and bus line. But you guys are using several controllers? how do you interface the controllers together or are u programming then to act like (4 different keyboards)? My design is requiring a lot of wiring and extra circuitry to address each switch into a series of 16bits. From what I can i tell your guys way is simply directly plugging a switch and diode to an input until you run out and then use a different controller for the rest? For 532 inputs that would require 16 pics (assuming 32 inputs). That wouldnt even touch the outputs.

When receiving Data linked targets is it possible get shkval to automatically slew to the target point or is it all manual searching?

Im using the Microchip PIC32MX USB controller but I have to design all my own hardware and software to make it work. Im probably about 50% done on the software side.

Anyone know of any dual throttle hotas I can get ahold of? So far Logitech G940 design is only one I can find. Id like something more along the lines of the hotas cougar but mostly I just want one thats close to the A-10 design. Ill settle for logitech if I have to but if something like the old suncom sticks are out there let me know

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16826100006 Has anyone tried to use this with the sim? If so, what sort of results did you get and what were you able to control with it? Looks like the next step towards virtual reality is here. Once again Science Fiction is becoming Science.

LMAO. Who reads that garbage??? Same old stuff blah blah blah. Dont pirate copies. Every customer has to have their own purchased copy.

I just love jets and the idea of flying 800mph 100ft above the surface.

Can't refly any campaign missions after patch
sweinhart3 replied to andyfoot's topic in DCS: Ka-50 Black Shark
When I did the Deployment campaign, I would always get a message Mission Complete when it was complete. But Georgian Oil War campaign so far Ive flown 2 missions. 1st one I was shot down after killing some dudes and the second one I killed everything and made it back to base. Neither one gave a mission complete message but both times the campaign advanced and it says I have 100% completion. Am I just supposed to guess when its ok for me to rtb and hope the objectives were complete? -
I started to freak out the other day cause my wingman wouldnt respond and I thought something was broke. Turned out I accidently hit one of the numbers on the VHF frequency knob when I was setting up my targeting computer. Gotta watch out for buttons and other doodaaads when your doing stuff. I sometimes have a hard time hitting a button I need with the mouse when track ir keeps moving my head PoV. Keeping my head dead still is sometimes a challenge.

I was under the impression that the whole reason you have 7 activations is so that you can put the installation onto more than 1 pc if you have need to. I personally have never been able to get a deactivation to work tho I have tried several times, but the idea is that you can install it onto as many as (7 theoretically) and remove the software to gain an activation back. Only one instance of the game can be run online at any 1 given time, but for people that run multiple machines to spread video across several monitors, DCS is supposed to be able to sink up. Dunno if its capable of this yet but I thought I read that somewhere. Reality is, at least for me, my activations get eaten up because of installations that dont go right or having to reinstall an OS.

If I understand it right DCS is not really threaded for multi core use. The affinity setting simply moves other OS related tasks to the other cores. Am I correct with this understanding?

Ive had to backup my files before. I dont have the game folder in front of me now but I believe its under scripts/players folder or something like that. Copy the whole players directory to wherever u want your backup location. Only thing was it didnt save my keyboard mapping which is annoying but I mainly wanted my profile and campaign status saved which it did.

Only way I have found to not get hit is to stay at the maximum range your missles have and destroy the sams. Until you do, if you move in your dead almost guaranteed.

Cant wait for the future release of the AH64
sweinhart3 replied to BlackFallout's topic in DCS: Ka-50 Black Shark
Dont hold your breath. Its likely a year down the road before A-10 is released and another year before any other module is released. No disrespect to any of the developers, they are doing a great job, but software titles like this almost always get pushed out due to technical difficulties. Thats just the way it is with development software. Fighter-ops is a prime example and who knows if that will ever come out. Just sit back and have fun with what we have. Im anticipating the A-10C module as Im trying to build a pit for it but I think I have plenty of time. -
Confession: Black Shark has made me a Rotor Head

I just finished the Deployment campaign. woot. my first completed campaign in a flight sim ever. Im a pro now lol. -
If you are using a LCD you do need a 120Hz. You could try it on a 60Hz but you will probably have ghosting. I bought a 61"DLP specifically for this application as it doesnt have this restriction. But even with that I can still detect just a hint of flicker which makes me wish i bought the 120Hz version.

:( that figures. The 3D vision also makes using unguided weapons difficult because if you focus on the HUD you cant align the aiming reticle very well and if you focus on the target my eyes lose a little focus on the aiming reticle and I start seeing 2 reticles. Other than that the 3D just about makes me forget Im even flying a sim. Cant have it all I guess. Nature of the beast.

I am using DCSMax.

Im a little curious how future computing technologies will play in the new modules. Right now KA-50 seems to be heavily CPU dependant. With Larrabee and competing technologies, the GPU can offload a lot of the CPU work load since it is essentially a many core processor. Hopefully multi-threading and use of these emerging technologies will be taken into consideration. It would potentially double or triple current frame rates which might be necessary after all the simulation enhancements are taken into account.

I like the weather implementation that Ive seen so far but I have a couple questions about it. In the missions Ive played so far with fog at low altitudes, a couple times I tried to find the ceiling and fly above the clouds but even after 5km altitude with no breaks I have to ask if cloud/wind layers are not modeled like they are in FSX? I havent noticed any wind gusts at certain altitudes while not others and I havent seen cloud breaks in some areas while its thick in other areas. I also noticed that when its raining none of the water seems to land on the windshield making the windshield wipers tho functional, irrelevant. Will a more advanced weather system be modeled later?

Ok I know that similar stuff has already been discussed but I have a need for speed. Im running Win 7 on a computer with Core 2 Extreme 9750, 4gig mem and Nvidia GTX 280. I also use trackIR 4 and Nvidia 3D Vision. (Im sure the 3D cuts the fps quite a bit since the computer has render 2 seperate images) 90% of the time I get a vary playable frame rate between 25-35fps (1900x1080). But there does come times when certain areas like some of the airbases drop the fps to nearly unplayable single digit numbers. Almost crashed trying to land because it got so bad. I tried rebuilding my system to include dual GTX 280 cards in SLI and got pretty much 0 performance improvement so I gather that it simply is not limited by graphics. I already have my processor overclocked to 3.4GHz. I work for Intel and from test results that Ive read, spending $1000 on a new Nehalem chip would not give me much of a boost. So is anyone else getting better numbers? Is there a faster pc configuration that has been working for folks or am I pretty much limited as fast as I can get? (barring spending $2000 for upgrading with minimal performance increase) And am I correct in my assumption that dual video cards do little to nothing for this sim assuming you are already using a good card?

Im running the last mission in the Deployment Campaign and running into this obstacle. Up until now, AI usually took out SAM sites and I only had to worry about AAA or mobile IR missles which arent usually too difficult to avoid. But now Im pitted up against radar missiles which it seems there is absolutely no threat detection device or countermeasure on the Blackshark. So far they are able to shoot me and my artificial buddies down long before I can even see much less identify and lock onto the source with a missle. Any hints from the experts?

I usually get a little bit of reverse or forward speed during auto hover but not a lot. When Im slowed to less than 50knots I cancel all my trim before engaging auto hover. Thats worked for me at least.
-
Thanks for all the comments. Ill practice more. So far I have been engaging targets with rockets at 1500 - 2500m at 100-200m altitude. I would start at a hover with all trim disengaged to maintain 0 airspeed with auto hover. I had been using standard auto pilot rather than FD with ground lock and turn towards target engaged on combat computer. Usually the heli will turn to target with the target reticle (shkval locked) a little off from aiming reticle. As I try to line them up I have to push the nose forward a bit which starts forward airspeed. Generally Im only making small corrective inputs but reticle still wanders a little up/down left/right which I try to correct. Of course even a half a hair width off results in a complete miss. One thing I notice is by the time Im about 500m from target, the target reticle is not exactly on the target even tho the skval is locked. I dont know if this is due to my using 3D glasses but I find that I have to ignore the target reticle and move the aiming reticle a bit to the actual target at which point my rockets usually hit within a few feet. Im not sure if the reticle being off a bit is a bug or just a 3D rendering issue that interferes between focusing a few feet away(HUD) and far away (actual target). It seems tho that I cant trust the actual target reticle that I see when trying to line it up.
