I've obeserved this "Issue" as well, but at least on my side it was an error on my side. In general the Laydown Mode should be used with an IP and the reticle is just for visualization of the targets position. But in DCS I find this not very usable so I use it more as a CCRP. I found that I'm hitting long if my plane isn't stabilzed. As soon as I'm flying a properly trimed and stabilized plane I can hit a target within 50ft with MK82 Air. I assume that the Bombing Calculator + Sight combination isn't fast enough to process the target location accurately.

Hey there, I'm just curious if Heatblur is planning of adding a chute retarded version of the Matra Bomb. If I'm not mistaken the current model is already the chute tailsection.

VIAF 2023 - Heatblur F-4 Phantom II Surprise Airshow Demo
Yannick Pancake replied to IronMike's topic in DCS: F-4E Phantom
The temperature is not really dependent on the time you fly the plane, it is influenced by the throttlesetting and engine design. I've read that the J79 on the F-4F had an option to increase the temperature in the combustion chamber but at the cost of increased wear on the engine. -
What is the F-4E's overbalance weight system?
Yannick Pancake replied to zarusoba10's topic in DCS: F-4E Phantom
As far as I know, the Phantom has a ram air System, wich increases the forces on the stick with an increasing airspeed. I'm not entirely sure how it works, but basically you have a ram air duct in the root of the vertical stabilizer (those 2 openings left and right on the front of the stabilizer) and with an increase in airspeed you get more air in wich increases the forces on the stick you need to move the stick. so basically a force feedback. I heard it was done to prevent too large inputs while flying fast which could damage the plane. -
F-4E Phantom Development Report - DCS Newsletter 31/03/2023
Yannick Pancake replied to IronMike's topic in DCS: F-4E Phantom
Cool Informations But regarding the F 4F, I don't know for sure, but from what i've heard is that the wartime setting wasn't a "melt the engine" setting. It was the normal operation mode of the j79 in the 104, or pretty close to it. At least on the F 4F there was a setting to reduce wear in peacetime. I don't know if this is specific to the MTU build engines or if it even was later introduced in an upgrade (maybe peace rhine or even ICE). I can imagine, that it was only done to our Phantom (I'm from Germany) to reduce maintenance costs and time. -
F-4E Phantom Development Report - DCS Newsletter 31/03/2023
Yannick Pancake replied to IronMike's topic in DCS: F-4E Phantom
The F-4F had 2 settings for the engines. As you said, one smokey peacetime mode an a less smokey wartime mode. The twi modes had different temperatures. The wartime setting burned hoter which reduced the smoke but also put more stress on the engineparts. I asked if the USAF E's also had this option, but iircc nobody knows about this on the E model, so I would doubt, that we will get this. -
Is waypoint offset for navigation possible?

Irc, you can move your tgt point for ccrp with the tdc switch... -
Announcing the F-4 Phantom for DCS World!
Yannick Pancake replied to Cobra847's topic in DCS: F-4E Phantom
A-6's have a launch bar, and I'm fairly confident there where occasions where phantoms and A-6's shared a boat -
as far as i know, this is a loadout which wasn't cleared, if you want to carry 2 Phoenix, you can only carry one sparrow.
-
I would doubt that, what i wouldn't doubt is that we have different styles of flying... but i've said everything i had to say already and until you give me a video of you flying or a track i can't give you any new tips... and I'm still thinking that you're simply bleeding to much energy... but you weren't willing to try my suggestion so i can't help you dude, sorry
-
Please, just PROVE us wrong. And for real, i don't know a single Person who thinks the cat is underpowered, ok the A is different, but also quite capable, if flown good, but for the B ...
-
Well you can just send us a DCS Trackfile, i'm happy to have a look at it and maybe find a mistake or we are able to give you tips where you can improve. but for that, we need a trackfile, not tacview, just a .trk if I'm not mistaken
-
Flaps are a tradeoff, Lift for drag, so you get even slower and have less energy. Just try it without dropping flaps, just use maneuver flaps. if it doesn't work call me stupid and ignore me. but for real, i have no idea left what to do, sorry.
-
Well I don't know what you do differently, the only thing i can now ask is, do you aim for 360ish kias or do you drop your flaps? if you do the latter one, change to the first option. otherwise i'm afraid i can't help you, I'm really sorry. i can only list my tips energy management, especially power curve i've sent you a few videos, maybe those can help you don't drop your flaps, (following is only my personal opinion) i would consider using them a more advanced tactic, and it seems that trying those shouldn't be your goal for now
-
What do you do? first you said you drop you flaps, now you say you aim for 360
-
In case you really want to get into bfm, look up bfm energy management on youtube and maybe in case you don't know the other stuff also videos on bfm theory. first video of a playlist i can recommend: Well you shouldn't drop flaps above 220, and the cat corners better at like 360 ish, at least this is what i aim for. i just use manever flaps and focus on my speed at around 360...
-
Well you're asking me to write a whole book of possible scenarios... buuut to give you an example, standard cap loadout, 2 aim 9, 3 aim 7 and maybe 2 aim 54, and 2 bags... cap intercept, and in case we get into bfm we drop at least our bags. always drop those if you need to get into bfm altitude and weather, whatever the situation dictates... other situation, moc bfm, at like 10-15k ft asl and a slick jet (maybe only 2 aim 9) but don't focus that hard on weather and altitude, you can't influence these factors in your fight. drop you tanks if you have those and stay above that power curve if you maneuver
-
But I don't see the f14, especially the b not even close to "a grape". Yes HB changed the FM to some extent but not so extreme that it's unable to perform, at least for me and my buddy's. Buuuut, it's no much more important to learn and perfect your energy management. back in the days it was sometimes possible to get above the power curve just by throttling to max ab, well this doesn't work anymore. For this to understand you need to understand the concept of the power curve. It's a representation of the ratio between drag and thrust. Below a certain airspeed (indicated) and your AoA is too high (and so your drag is too high) your thrust might not be sufficient to maintain the speed. But if you reduce AoA (stick forward -> unloading) your airspeed will recover and increase, and you can continue to turn. To train this i can recommend 2 things 1. train with a buddy and train fly with a fixed throttle setting for example full mil 2. train with the A model
-
Well, it was just a suggestion, from my experience with the cat from the last few years, regarding any bfm stuff it CAN help to unload your airframe to get back above the power curve. yes during a fight it's hard but you can learn how to do it. It wasn't meant offensive, you just said it has absolutely nothing that you can carry over and i just think it's not that way, but this is just my opinion.
-
For me it sounds like you're behind the power curve... happened to a few trainees of me too Btw. it has, you can learn to try to predict your opponents...

Telling our WSO to take over the plane? (F-4E)
Yannick Pancake replied to foxmagnet's topic in DCS: F-4E Phantom
At least in other Sims the F-4E has an altitude hold ... -
Well... I would argue that this only depends on the size of you unaliver-machine
-
Also some Charles F Adams DDG could be cool.
-
You can just google for F-4F ICE or KWS (German for ICE) Cockpit. And yes im sure about the front pit. There aren't any MFD things. And for the back seat, i've never seen anything MFD like thing there, but they might integrated an extra panel with just switches. In general the ICE was more an interim solution until the EF was ready, and heaters only where a little outdated in the 90's, since our Phantoms were unable to carry sparrows
-
Well, thats not 100% true... The F-4F KWS/ICE was able to fire amraam and didn't had any MFDs to my knowledge. only the original radar screen repeater in the front pit (sorry I don't know the exact term) and the radar screen in the back pit. I don't know if this was updated when they got the APG 65 but the didn't get any fancy MFD stuff like the Peace Ikarus or Terminator ones
