boarder2, that's a really slick piece of software you've created! I too would be interested in an Android version so please keep us posted. In fact, I was planning on purchasing a couple of 8" USB monitors to go with a pair of MFD Cougar Multifunctional Cockpit Panels, but I like your solution much better...so I am going to delay that order for awhile.

I learn the sim by using every method mentioned so far and I browse the forums a lot bookmarking items of interest along the way. They don't call DCS:A10C a study sim for nothing.

I turned the in-game texture settings down to medium from high and it looks like I save 20-30MB of video memory. If I disable the second monitor that saves another 20-25MB, so I am going to run it like this for awhile to see of it helps. Update: Turning the in-game texture setting down to medium seems to have helped quite a bit. I've flown 10-missions and haven't experienced the disappearing label problem at all. It was happening during just about every mission when the textures were set to high. I think Nate was right about the video memory being consumed and dumping the labels. Hopefully this will help others that are having the same problem.

Ok, I repro'd the disappearing label issue and uploaded a track. I also ran GPU-Z and logged stats on my video card while I ran the SIM. The log contains temps, clock speed, and memory usage. It's just a text file but if you open it in notepad make sure wordwrap is off. Both files are in the RAR archive. This was the Hideout mission, and the labels disappeared after I completed start-up and right after I left the hangar. DisappearingLabels.rar

Which make/model 460GTX did you guys test and what were the clock and memory frequencies set to? The reason I ask is because I am experiencing the issue on an MSI N460GTX Cyclone 768D5/OC and this card ships with slightly higher clock setting than the standard 460GTX. I don't recall the exact freqs but it seemed that they were 25Mhz higher than normal. I'll check the clock settings on my GPU when I get home this evening and put together a track. Also, I don't OC my systems (no reason to), but the GPU was OC'ed at the factory and I am wondering if it has something to do with the label and MFD corruption issues. I can also try clocking it down to see if that helps.

I have a few questions for the ED Devs if they don't mind: * Do you have any recommendations on how to minimize/eliminate the disappearing labels issue? * Any console commands or other configuration that can be tried? * Can you say whether it's a video driver, GPU hardware, or an issue with the sim that will be corrected in a future patch? I've tried everything I can think of to resolve this problem; changed in game graphic settings, global Nvidia settings, different drivers, etc. I am currently at a crossroad trying to decide whether or not I should replace my Nvidia GPU with an ATI. The thing is, if this is indeed an Nvidia issue I am worried that they might not take it very seriously if only one game is affected by it. Nvidia tends to release driver updates every 4-6 months and that's a long time to wait to see if they're going to fix the problem or not. A co-worker of mine recently purchased A10 and he said that he had the disappearing label problem on his ATI card, but that the latest driver seems to have solved it. I am just looking for some direction here because the problem is driving me a little crazy. :)

I knew exactly what you were saying and never took any of it or the other comments personally. I was just having a bit of fun. And I love my job! I had some ideas for the Kinect that went beyond just head tracking. Unfortunately it doesn't track very well when the subject is sitting down, Kinect wants to see the whole person. I'll pursue these ideas more when the official SDK is released since the OpenNI API is very much in an alpha state and is probably not exposing the devices full potential. If all else fails, I guess I'll buy an Xbox since I don't own one.

Next DCS (US) Fixed Wing Aircraft Wish List
oritpro replied to diecastbg's topic in DCS Core Wish List
How about modeling this? The next generation of helicopters take flight http://news.yahoo.com/video/us-15749625/the-next-generation-of-helicopters-take-flight-25027505 -
I was being funny and I know the pain that's involved, I am a Network Validation Engineer by trade, for the same company that made your CPU. I live in ring 0 and work with software engineers all day long. I also code applications that pertain to my job as well as others in my organization. Debugging drivers is one thing, debugging apps is another, still we have similar jobs.

if (DCS:BS && DCS:A10 != Compatible) { MakeCompatible(); MakePatch(); DistributePatch(); } There, what's so hard about that? ;)

Don't use a vacuum cleaner on your computer, use canned air instead. You risk zapping your system with static electricity using a vacuum cleaner. If you've updated all your drivers and the problem still occurs then it's likely a hardware issue...possibly something wrong with the OS that a re-install might fix.

jeffyd123...you're probably right but it seems that the EAC will not enable at all until the NAV system is fully aligned. Thanks for clarifying this.
-
You need to wait for the NAV system to finish aligning after powering up the CDU and GPS/INS systems. This takes about 4-minutes. If you switch to NAV mode on the CDU before the alignment process completes then you get to start all over again. The left and right Yaw and Pitch channels on the SAS panel must also be set to ON before EAC can be enabled.

Not with beer. This is starting to remind me of the OSX versus Linux versus Microsoft Windows debates... :) I recently returned to simming after being away for about 10-years, so no, I don't have all the latest newfangled hardware attached to my system...yet. However, I am quite happy with the X65F and plan to stick with it (pun intended). We can debate which is better all day long but it really boils down to personal preference and how much your willing to spend.

That's a $500+ question. It's an acronym for this: http://www.amazon.com/Thrustmaster-Hotas-Warthog-Flight-Stick/dp/B00419ZUXS/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1303845839&sr=8-1 You guys can keep your TMWH's. The X65f is freakin' awesome, even better since I only paid $200 for mine brand new. That means I have extra $$$ to spend on TrackIR 5, MFD's, and beer. I fly much better with beer. I am still working on a Kinect tracking solution though.

Checklists are fine but the start-up guide I created was aimed at people that are new to the sim and might not know where all of the switches are located yet, it gives them something visual to reference during a ramp start. After using the guide several times during missions I finally graduated to checklists. Nice checklist konkussion! I added it to my (ever growing) collection. Now this is funny: Ejection Seat to ARM (not in hangar!) :megalol:

Posting in a thread still doesn't allow me to rep for some reason. I am trying to rep the OP in this thread: http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=60854 And just for kicks I tried to add rep to another poster in this thread: http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?p=1182711#post1182711 The error message read that I need to post a comment first but I had already done that twice. * confused *

Outstanding! Thanks for taking the time to put this together.

OP, Welcome to The Addiction. I haven't been able to play anything else since picking up DCS:A-10C. RigorMortis, Longbow / Longbow 2 was the shiite back in the day, especially MP where you could buddy up with a friend and play pilot or weapons officer. I really miss that.

Looking at the stack it would appear that a USB driver was at fault here, not the game or BitTorrent. When was the last time you updated your chipset drivers? Edit: Are you by any chance using ReadyBoost or some kind of USB device to host the pagefile?
-
The v270.61 Nvidia release didn't help the label problem or the MFD text corruption. The labels disappear just about every time I play, the MFD problem is pretty rare. I am about ready to jettison the Nvidia card and replace it with an ATI.
-
I wish they'd bring back the Wing Commander series those were good times, I played them all.

Microprose F-15 Strike Eagle. I can't remember if this was on the PC or C64 though. Had *a lot* of sims back then. Anyone remember Red Storm Rising? Loved that on the C64 and was reading the book at the same time.

Where to get Saitek SST software?
oritpro replied to Prophet4no1's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
It's not your browser, Saitek's site has been slow for several months. They make nice stuff but I get the impression that their support lines and web server is all run from mommy's basement over dial-up.
