But if you attach it, we can look at it and discuss it. Many players in your same situation would benefit from that since it seems that there is no bug involved but rather a procedural issue. Unfortunately, and I am not talking about you here, there seems to be almost a fear of posting TacView or game tracks, and I don't understand why. No one is going to mock or judge them or something

"40° Cold of CATA at 25nm". It's quite a mouthful intercept name, but quite handy nonetheless.- 28 replies

Tutorials and studies T2: Procedures, Timelines, Intercept Geometry
Karon replied to Karon's topic in General Tutorials
Uh, I forgot to post the MiG-29 sync-z-turn-but-not-really-anymore video. It was requested by a viewer. On the more interesting side, a quick method to assess CATA and BH without radar lock. This method should work with other aircraft as well (please don't ask me to record it with the MiG-29 ). Whatever the technique used, finding those parameters enable a ton of other procedures, from intercept techniques to simply reducing the timeline or position for a VID.- 28 replies

I ran your track (a stable and still view would have been appreciated). I ran it a second time, took control after the return and pressed "V". It worked as expected. Run the usual stuff (repairs & co) and try again.

It took me a minute to figure out what you meant, then I noticed the typo (shy of two years later, nice). I'm not going to edit the post. It should have been: > Careful, the NAVGRID is not True MAGNETIC. In fact, you can orient it to offset and point at the Magnetic North, similarly to what I mentioned before with the Echo point. By doing so, although the reading won't be magnetic, the eyeballing you will make will be more precise. Otherwise the rest of the sentence does not make sense at all @Cat107 Do you plan to add the magvar of the YY in the kneeboard if set in the ME?

This type of topic is not useful without a track, a video or at least a tacview to try and figure out where the problem is. If the Tomcat has taught everyone something is that a pilot who does not understand how radar and avionics work is almost guaranteed to blame Jester for their lack of understanding. And the Tomcat is many leagues easier to use than the F-4E. From what I have seen, Jester is not particularly bad at finding targets: the problem is usually in the front seat. Since Jester cannot tell the stick monkey to change geometry and cannot do it itself, the pilot gets stuck because it does not understand why Jester is not (apparently) doing anything. Jester has many improvements coming in the future but unless it starts telling humans what to do, the chauffeur really needs to put some effort into it.

Mediocre?

Tutorials and studies T2: Procedures, Timelines, Intercept Geometry
Karon replied to Karon's topic in General Tutorials
An impromptu video has become a mini-series. Here are the F-14 Tomcat and the F-5E-3 Tiger II. Goes without saying that the initial discussion about the Sync-Z-Turn had to be adjusted for aircraft such as the F-5E. Therefore, in the original procedure, only the high-level flow is maintained. Still, it works pretty well, no matter the fighter it is used with.- 28 replies

An impromptu video to show how the Sync-Z-Turn principles can be adapted to other fighters. In this case, the Mirage F1.- 28 replies

Yeah, I don't see why it shouldn't work. At the end of the day, the WSO can kind of do most of what a pilot would do at night / IFR conditions.- 28 replies

Something interesting at last! The first no-lockon technique is easy to use and very effective; it requires just radar awareness.- 28 replies

So happy to finally have this video completed. I wanted to put it together months ago!
For once, no math, but great results. An easy to use, and effective method -

Some new articles and videos which, albeit seen from the F-4E's perspective, can be applied to almost any other fighter: https://flyandwire.com/f-4e-phantom-ii-articles/ Plus, given the little spare time these days, I tried something new, breaking down a 30-minute video I am working on into shorter, more digestible bites. Contrary to older articles, I put much more emphasis on the visualisation of the topic, rather than the maths. Upcoming videos may be even much shorter and cover Aspect (TA/AA), ATA, Cut/HCA(DTG) and so on. Once this bit is done, I will move to something quite cool and applicable to any aircraft, albeit again seen from the Phantom II's perspective.- 28 replies

It works. How have you calculated the speedgate? Also, it's not that you "even select", rather, you have to. See if this helps:
