  1. XP does allow using multiple cores. thats not anything new. If you can get the same or better performance with Win7, I can't imagine not switching. The OP sounds like re-assurance that upgrading to Win7 is a decent idea. Unless you have something HW-wise which isn't compatible of course.
  2. an obvious big one is the dynamic campaign engine in Falcon.
  3. I believe you don't need a separate copy, you're allowed a certain # of activations. AFAIK, its perfectly legit to buy a copy and install it on your desktop and laptop.
  4. d'oh! ok, I was going based off the nav video tutorial and they didn't mention it :) I guess I do need to go read that section of the manual. been flying the Su-25 more and man that whole "flying tank" thing is understandable. its a beast! fun to take it on as a challenge :) and trying to turn the thing around like a fighter... not good!
  5. I don't think new modules will be free of charge, I think they'll charge for each module, only makes sense. I would hope they can continue to evolve the engine as they add new modules so that the engine continues to be fresh with each module release. If they're able to do that, it could extend indefinitely :)
  6. I experienced the same thing with DCS:BS after it was released. The controls/bindings interface was always a bit flaky for me in DCS:BS and FC2 is using the same thing. I would change stuff, get in the pit and have it be incorrect, go back into the settings and see all kinds of strange setups, etc. It was also very wierd with saving/loading from that screen so I stopped doing it. I also found going into the screen multiple times caused issues. It could be they've improved it for FC2 and its better, but I wouldn't be shocked if it still had issues. For BS I ended up doing a clean install, never using save/load, and was able to get it working ok. There are certain things you do that can get it really hosed up though. I posted some of my experiences here. Good luck. I'd say do a clean install, never use save/load, and only make the absolute minimal changes you need. Get in and get out quickly and then leave it be :)
  7. \ I did not use the save or load profile commands. The only thing I changed in the Su-25 setup (not the T) was the axis inputs for pitch/roll/yaw/throttle for my HOTAS. Those all work fine in the sim. And some of the keyboard commands work, but not most of them. I didn't change any keyboard commands in the settings. Also, as I mentioned, the same aircraft works fine if I use one of the pre-made missions.
  8. I created a practice mission for the Su-25. Just clicked Add, selected Su-25, with player skill at one of the airports, then setup a group of waypoints and added some enemy transport trucks at one of the waypoints. When I attempt to fly this mission, I can start the engines (Shift+Home), close the canopy (Ctrl+C) and taxi out for takeoff. However, after taking off I can't raise the gear, nor do other keyboard commands seem to work. I can't toggle speed brakes for example with B. If I fly one of the pre-made missions for the Su-25 that comes with FC2 it works fine.
  9. I find it funny that they didn't think to have something obvious like the current SP # shown anywhere, despite using a significant amount of space on the panel just to show the range to the current SP :) flying the Su-25 helps you to understand why they've made all these great advances, providing things like HUDs and autopilots in aircraft over the years :) it is fun to learn and fly the Su-25 for the challenge, I'm not ripping on it, its just an adjustment coming from the glass cockpit!
  10. using a stand-alone mic with voice comms and speakers is usually a bad idea from my experience. it results in the game sound being transmitted to everyone along with your voice.
  11. while flying A-10 in a MP server the other night, I noticed that while flying to SP2 the range to steerpoint display in the HUD (lower right corner) was only updating while in nav mode. If I switched to air-to-ground mode, it still showed the same SP number, but the range didn't update. Switching back to nav mode showed the correct, decreasing range as I flew towards the SP.
  12. don't forget you have to fly in the snow and its always uphill away from or back to the airport! :megalol:
  13. actually the HUD puts you more INTO the flying experience as you're able to be heads up paying attention to the flying not having your head buried in the gauges :)
  14. well, you might be splitting a few hairs there :) the fact is the FC2 feature of online compatibility with BS isn't yet there awaiting a patch; regardless of which side they patch it on the result is the same. anyway, looking forward to seeing how it works post-patch. definitely some really cool possibilities, having mixed Ka-50 and fixed wing MP missions :)
  15. yes, the online compatibility with DCS is part of FC2. go check out the product page, its listed as one of the features ;) having said that, I think its ridiculous to go getting all bent out of shape because the patch isn't ready yet. let them finish it and do it right.
  16. you don't install FC2 "over" LOMAC. just install LOMAC, then install FC2 to its own directory. when you run the FC2 installer it checks for LOMAC and will only install if LOMAC is present. after you've installed FC2 you can uninstall LOMAC. FC2 is a completely separate stand alone product despite it being referred to as an update to a LOMAC addon (FC). it doesn't use LOMAC as far as I can tell. so just put it in its own directory and when done uninstall LOMAC.
  17. ok thanks for the replies. what I've done is to start with a stock install, then install the mods, then make backup copies of the files in the same directory they're at and make my additional mods. this way I can revert to the mod'd files before running ModMan to, for example, install more mods, etc. and then re-apply my tweaks manually.
  18. yes, that workaround solved the problem for me. you can either tap RCtrl again by itself after chatting or re-map team chat to something which doesn't use a modifier.
  19. Thanks! That fixed it. I just need to tap RCtrl each time after typing something in team chat. Good idea. Saves having to go tap the modifier each time.
  20. I believe they're doing A-10 first, so I'm guessing any other aircraft would have to come after that and that is still in the works. correct, DCS has only done 1 aircraft at this point, the Ka-50 Black Shark. They're working on the second one, the A-10. Then they'll have 2 DCS aircraft and will presumably (hopefully) add more after that.
  21. I posted this to the bug thread, but wanted to also check and see if anyone else has run into this and found a workaround. When joining a MP server, shortly after takeoff, I lose all keyboard functions. None of the hotkeys work anymore. I suspect that this happened after I use the chat commands to type to the server and team channels, but I haven't verified that yet. Once it gets in this state, none of the keyboard commands work. Even hitting ESC doesn't work, you have to terminate the process in Task Mgr. Its as though the focus is stuck in the chat GUI maybe?
