Numpad 0 Yep, your correct, thats the little sucker the tut tells you to press in the take off tut, unless I have the wrong key LOL:pilotfly: Ah, my computer by default always has num lock "on" I might try to assign a different key for engaging/disengaging nose steering as at the moment I cant steer A/C.

Joystick Hi again, forgot to mention my joystick like you mentioned, it is : Logitech Extreme3DPRO X3D (not FFB) excellent joystick in it's day.:joystick: Cheers

4 and 5 4) in options you can set either as "game" or "simulation" and you can also tick "use these settings all the time (or something like that). As you may have guessed I am trying to play in "Game settings but it doesn't keep them. I think you may have already answered by saying the tuts use "sim" settings. 5) not sure what you mean by access issues, I bought the game online and key has been activated and accepted, is that what you mean by access issues? I might try deleting and making a new pilot, see if that fixes it. Re-nose steering issue, I will just "tap" the insert key and see what happens, as i said it changes the view, maybe the key needs to be checked in settings? Again thanks:thumbup:

As usual you are helpful Many thanks for taking the time to answer all questions, I will see about getting that joystick you suggested. I can see your a Mod so i guess you see alot of these simialr type questions, so thanks again for not being ro harsh and for trying to help.

know the problem I asked the same question the other day, just check in editor as the previous post said. I do agree with you though, how hard is it to show full number? Cheers

startup My WoW moment was when I finally was able to start the Blackshark up from start to finish (about a year ago) I was very please with myself, maybe not a wow moment but it was for me. Cheers

Hi guys, well it has been a day or two of flying and have found a few 'problems' maybe. Is anyone able to shed any light of these couple of noticable quirks. 1) Comms don't work? 2)Nose wheel steering doesn't work or the key the tutourial mentions does something else (in my case brings up a closer view of the cockpit)? says to use "insert" under 50knots and rudders above that speed. I only ask as i have twice now been unable to steer below 50 knots, wound up on the grass and can't go anywhere. 3) The pitch ladders/thingys, even though someone explained they don't stay central, it is bloody annoying as they catch your eye with regards "am I straight and level" 4)Major one this one...the game doesn't keep the "game" setting once you have set all the parameters/options? 5)Lastly, game not updating pilots log, as in I have flown many hours yet only showns 2 minutes????? Also if someone can shed some light on how to calibrate the joystick in game as I have watched a few videos of people playing this sim and there A/C doesn't bounce around all over the place at a single touch. I think this is why the pitch ladders at least don't sit centre at any point. I know forum members have helped with an understanding of the pitch ladders thingy, but my gut feeling tells me it could be a trim problem, like I used to have in DCS Blackshark. Appreciate any help, I would hate to stop playing this because of the same reasons as DCS BS. On a funny note, never laughed so hard at the video some guy made about being to dumb to fly this sim, well to give you some idea, if he is dumb well I am worse when uit comes to this sim. Why don't they include some sort of joystick auto recognise and setup (for most joysticks anyways). I also believe the switch I have on my joystick (used for scrolling around in most flight sims) can be used as switches??? HOTAS something, am I right??? Lastly (again LOL) should I give the "game" setting away and try to play this sim on "realistic"? Cheers all p.s. I know there is alot of questions and I will play the tuts, read the 700 page manual but sometimes help is needed, welcome to my steep learning curve. Should I buy a better joystick? I do have a quite expensive one as it is, but from what I am reading there is a joystick that works well with A10C, aparently similar to the real thing? Again cheers
-
Excellent Jeez I never laughed so much in my life. I am worse than you dude, well done on start up and well done on the video, I really enjoyed it.
-
Okay thanks Yeah that is what is happening, is this what happens in real A/C? as I said I guess I am used to the ladder things just sitting central (as in not moving with drift etc) this I feel might take some time to get used to. Again thanks:thumbup:
-
Excellent replies Yeah mate, the pitch ladders, if that is normal I will have to get used to it. I guess I am used to play flight sims where the hud/pitch ladders stayed centre on straight and level flight. I will take a screenshot for you as asked (the Mod dude who asked) but am unsure how one puts it in the thread, but will give it a go.:smilewink: The game rocks guys, on another note I am still wishing they would do an Apache version, would make my life sweet.:megalol: Again thanks, love this forum and this sim looks superb. Cheers

Joystick maybe? Guys should have put it in previous post, could it be a joystick calibration issue. I am using a Logitech Extreme 3DPRO X3D. I did have trim issues with DCS Blackshark, one of the reasons I stopped playing it sadly. Please help if you can.

Many thanks mate Cheers, all good then.

I am flying straight and level (well as good as can be, very touchie controls) and yet the hud is slightly right of view, can be rather annoying as I am constantly checking instruments and rate of climb, heading etc etc. Is this one of those "where you look the hud is"? sorry I am new to A10C in the whole sense. Any help would be appreicated, I am going to print the massive manual later but I will have to chop down a few more trees and buy a couple of toner cartridges:cry: anyway cheers all, good to be back

I bought the game last night from the site and it says version 1.1.0.8 on the site yet when game starts it is missing the .8, just reads 1.1.0. Did I actually get the lastest version or do I need to download the latest patch? Hope this doesn't seem like a dumb question. Cheers p.s. good to be back after crashing out with DCS Blackshark (too hard for us old people LOL) let's see how I do with a fixed wing A/C:joystick:

Thanks Okay thanks for the quick reply

Hi guys, I live in Brisbane, Queensland, Australia and have "pair gain" at my home which basically means I can only get wireless. It at best is a shitty horrible conection so downloading any files is near impossible. Hence my question, can A-10C be bought in any game shop? The reason I ask is I have not seen it in EB Games or JB HiFi. Buying it online is not an issue, downloading it will be  Cheers

Seems pilot error I did the mission again and this time I turned on everything to do with de-icing that I could think of prior to reaching the 3rd waypoint (just before the base and troop deployment). Anyhow none of the previous problems I have had seems the cold really does a job on the engine/rotors and everything else. However, I did decided to start "throwing the Shark around a bit" and caused all sorts of problems and ended up dropping like a rock again and dying. So it would seem from this re-run, even though I survived to the waypoint where all the issues start, that didn't happen. However I believe prior to giving the shark a rough ride and carshing and dying, that the issue was around "icing of the engine/rotors etc". Seems you can't throw this baby around with steep turns and extreme diving and climbing. I saved the track as you all suggested, for thos keen on viewing it, how do I attach it to a post. And lastly many thanks to all who contributed, you are all excellent

Right again mate Yep, that's the last one I remember playing re- the Apache Gunship, was very good, however Gunship was my first love. Bought a Commodore 64 just to play that game. The wife used to get the shits as I only had a TV in which to plug it in LOL.:megalol: I wish they would re-release that game like they have the others, ie civ, col, railways tycoon and pirates, all made by Microprose at the time. Maybe Sid didn't have anything to do with the original gunship? Cheers
-
Hi again fellow Black Shark pilots (dare I include myself after my last post LOL):music_whistling: Anyway, was just wondering, does anyone here remember "Gunship" by Microprose (early or maybe mid 80's release). I rememeber enjoying it heaps and so I decided to ask you lot this question. Does anyone know if there has been a Gunship (Apache that is) game released in recent years or is it long gone, ancient history? I know there have been games released for the consoles but not much for PC with regards that original game. Even though it took the big arse floppy ages to load, I loved playing it, your thoughts?

Many thanks Well I am impressed with the many answers I have been getting. You sound like your right into this sim and maybe helo's, thanks for the advice, it has been informative and I will be keeping in mind what you and others have been saying. However I can't help wonder, if the helo has problems at alts like this, why I are they not falling out fo the sky in real life, ie thin air? I did try the "sliding out bit" as you suggested, just sent the nose downward and the spinning got worse. On a funnier note, I was thinking WTF??? I did let go of the stick and it seemed to settle only to continue spiraling down. Really seems once this happens your kinda "farked":joystick: I have been in choppers when I was in the Aussie Army (Hueys) never at 4000 ft but skimming the canopy of the jungle, now that was fun. They never fell out of the sky and they seemed quite high at times, however this was the heat and humidty of North Queensland and I was no pilot. Might look into this "thin air thingy, seems important if I keep felling out of the sky" again thanks

Will do Thanks, I will re-fly mission and do as you and others have recommended, see how I go. Cheers, will keep you posted.

Your answers are all excellent Guys, well it seems I opened a can of worms with this thread. All your answers are great however I am not a die hard player like most of you (I don't even know whata track is or how to save/retreive one). Anyhow more info for you. I am playing on "Game setting" as I have joystick issues where the collective doen't setup properly yet works in game setting. Go figure (however that is another issue all together).:joystick: Mission "altitude" I guess you know it, (Ist solo mission of the choice) where you have to climb to 4000 ft and escort some choopers to a base (elevation 5000 ft, or something like that) "Anyhow" take off, following route, ask wingman to move to combat spread/cruise. Everything going fine, flying along, climbing nicely not over stressing engines, collective, rotors etc. Reach 4000 ft (as per mission briefing am now at 3rd waypoint just before you met the choopers you have to escort. Ice defrost turned on as mission recommends and at this point nothing wrong. Next thing I get a tone, lights flashing, I check nothing showing as wrong (I know that sounds strange) but please believe me I am looking for a display so I can correct the issue? Almost immeditaly I start dropping like a rock, engines fine, everything is quiet as I have turned off tone and flashing red light and yellow light, rotor still spinning how seems slower (or it could be me) if I had to pin point anything it is like I am getting no lift from the collective. Having said that the collective responds but the flying brick is just that, it is a downward spiral until the crash and my death. So in summary, for me this has happend before on same mission and always the same point, 2nd waypoint just near town before you get the the choppers and troops at base. No small arms fire, no AA. Again I must state, I have flown the black shark real smooth, not a step climb, no over rev on motor or rotors and prior to turning into a rock, nothing. As I said worse thing you are left thinking "how do I fix this"? basically you can't. Sorry for the non tech imfo, seems Henchmen (is it) has experinced somethig similar. I have to go with the guy who mentioned "fuel maybe" is it possible the fuel gets blocked or slows down to the cold, I mean after all one does turn on the de-ice thingy for the rotors? However I would have thought on "Game setting" you haven't to worry about such detail. I really think it might be a issue with that mission. If you have noticed something in my ramblings (apart from the spelling mistakes and that I play on "Game" settings) please inform me. I guess I could just move onto the next mission and or play campain?:pilotfly:

Hi guys and fellow pilots of DCS Black Shark. I only started playing again recently after having sometime away, anyway... the reason for the post is "why is the chopper suddenly losing alt" and dropping like a rock" although I was flying straight and level, not stressing the engines/rotors etc. One minute at 4000ft everything fine next minutes start losing alt and for whatever reason cannot recover. I forgot that I had stopped playing DCS last time because of this. Seems no reason for it. Cheers Le'Roy:pilotfly:
