Thanks Might come and have a look, where abouts in Brisbane is it going to be? Can that joystick be bought in Oz yet and if so where would you recommend I get it from? Cheers

Similar thing happened to me. Quite frustrating really, I was about 3-4 km from (lets say) lots of enemy ground targets, I decided to be brave and stay just outside of harms way and send my wingman in to take a few out. His responce threw me a little as he came back with basically "cannot do that" and proceeded to get shot down as he just flew around with his "thumb up his arse" Another interesting note to this topic, is sometimes he just ups and flies away not to be seen again, got me stuffed. Maybe it is something I am doing. To be fair, this doesn't happen all the time, but unless I am directing him to do stuff, he is basically a flying target. The advice about using the datalink buttons instead of keys sounds like rock solid advice, I might give that a try.

New joystick maybe? I currently have the "Logitech Extreme 3D Pro X3D" and it is a great joystick but not force feedback. I love this game so much I will consider buying a force feedback if you guys wish to recommend one for me, however I think we are a little limited here in Oz (Australia) with EB Games, JB Hifi, WoW Sight and Sound and Harvey Norman and Gamedude Computers (I live in Brisbane, Queensland). Also, just so I follow most advice, number one will be to keep auto pilot (route) off and the rest on, and to assign a key to both trim and reset trim on my joystick and if chopper starts doing it's own thing, after using trim, simply hit the reset and the chopper should settle, do I have that right. One more thing please, how do I get the A/C to simply move down the runway, with out lifting off? for me (so far) everytime I increase collective the chopper starts to lift not move along runway? and again many thanks for all your advice this far. Cheers

Many many thanks All the replies were excellent and informative. I am going to stick with "realistic settings" and as all of you said it takes many hours. Again, I was just venting after one bad training session after another. The game is superb and sounds amazing on 7.1 speakers with the volume cranked up (the wife told me to turn it down) and she was in the lounge room.:music_whistling: Anyway, many thanks. Cheers:thumbup:

Longbow? Just for conversation, I am old enough to remember the old amiga version of "Gunship" and later the PC versions of Longbow etc and loved them all. I often wonder why there has been no recent games based on the Longbow even a possible release of a revamped "Gunship" I am sure the game would be as popular now as it was back then, Cheers

Thanks mate Nate, thank you, that works, cheers:thumbup:

I just got back into DCS Blackshark and have set everything to realistic, because I figure might as well play the game for real. Couple of points I have noticed, the trim sucks, I manually set the chopper's speed, heading, altitude etc and then hit the "T" key keep it held until happy and let it go and the chopper does a complete nose dive and goes from 500ft to crashing into the ground, what the heck??? Secondly, I slow down to get ready for landing or just some slow low flying and the chopper starts drifting sides even when I adjust with rudder, most of the time it is drifting to my left. I am sure my joystick is calibrated, so why is this happening? This morning it drifted me into the side of a building??? Which brings me to my third point, if the pilot (me) cannot even get the chopper to hold level flight, and or hover and or basically after trim fly and hold alt without spinning, drifting, losing altitude, etc etc, how am I supossed to be able to go "hands free" and view over displays and push buttons for other stuff??? I guess it means I should go back to "Game settings" but I reckon that spoils this otherwise fine sim.:pilotfly: Finally just when you probably thought it couldn't get much worse, I finally land the chopper (rough at that) and once I realse the stick the chopper, starts "rolling along" trying to turn left and generally do it's own thing, so unless I keep control of the chopper (as in hands on joystick 24/7) the chopper bouncess around like a kid on a trampoline and such. :joystick: I have been in a few choppers (as a passenger in my Army days) and although I was in the back they didn't do all the stuff that happens in this game, maybe the old Huey was a more stabile machine? anyway the flight dynamics of this sim must be all stuffed, or I just suck at the game, (maybe a little of both). So I have vented, but I would love to hear what others would like to contribute to my points, lastly, shouldn't one be able to lift off and climb say to 50-100ft and just hover there "hands free" (without the use of the hover button) and not have the chopper go nuts?:joystick: Cheers all, venting over.

Thanks Mate, thank you for your help, it now starts on the ground, but the chopper is already up and running, sorry to ask, but do you know how I can set it just to be sitting there prior to cold start?:helpsmilie: I would really appreciate your help with this, (or anyones actually) someone who may have made a few missions (this is my first):book: Cheers

Hello The first thing I have done is after I add me chopper I choose the take of from airfield and yes I do save mission, is start from ramp different from start at airfield? I thought by choosing start at airfield it would have started on the ground, guess not eh, maybe the ramp is the one I need to choose? Thanks, I will go check this out.

Guys and Gals, I have made a mission from the editor and wanted to keep it basic, just me in the chopper on the ground so as to practice start-up, take off and landing and shut down procedures. Problem is I set my chopper to be on airfield for takeoff and everytime the mission starts it is up flying above the said airfield. I really don't know what to do next as I thought I set all the parameters in editor, why doesn't it save my choices?:helpsmilie: Any help would be appreciated. Cheers

Thank you heaps Many thanks for your help, got it working. -
Good morning all, well as some of you know I recently started playing DCS BS again after being away from it for a few months (work, family etc), anyhow since the patch I really wanted to get back into the game so I have been trying to setup the above named joystick and quite frankly it is complicated. The problem is I cannot get the collective to work in "game mode" the default keyboard (as you all know) is "Q" and "A" the bizzare thing is, in "real mode" the collective works? I went into settings and tried to see what joystick button/lever the game had assigned to collective in real mode and not game mode. Problem is the settings for collective apart from the "+" and "-" is blank so I cannot even copy what keys it may have assigned, follow me so far? The game in real mode must have assigned some joystick setting as it works, yet in game mode seems to not use the same joystick setting. This tells me that the collective can be used as the game is already using it in the real mode setting. I then tried to assign the joystick settings for game mode for the collective and no lie, there must be 30 keys/buttons/levers to choose from (from the drop down menu) I have no idea which (apart from the obvious buttons 1-4) if anyone else has this joystick, have you been able to assign a lever to collective for the "game mode setting" and if so could you please tell me which binding it is (from the drop down list). I need to know which two you chose. Sorry for the rather long winded, cluster thread, just difficult to explain any other way, basically can someone help me with this as I really want to use the lever on the joystick for collective in game mode.:joystick: Whoever helps, when they see the list of keys from the drop down menu for this joystick you will understand my struggle, I was sort of hoping there might have been a joystick file one could download for this game, after all the joystick is considered one of the better joysticks, you know like configs etc? Hope to hear from someone soon. Cheers:thumbup:

your view? Which card is the better then?

fixed Well, you won't believe this, I updated my video drivers to 9.9 (ATI) and started game and text on menus is all fixed, go figure eh? Thanks to all that replied. If I had not paid so much money for this ATI card, I may have gone Nvidia (seems like less issues) Cheers all

Thanks Thanks for the advice, I have not done any 'modding' as I do not know how, this became a problem prior to applying new patch, I think I download the full 1.0.1a, how would I know, are you able to link download of full patch just in case I didn't. I would really love to get this fixed, seems like a mix up with lanuage I think, but other than that I am totally lost. Cheers:thumbup:

Thanks Hi, yeah, not using Vista, only Xp, thanks anyway:thumbup:
-
Thanks Yeah I tried that, didn't fix it, thanks anyway.

I have been very busy lately but have only just got back to playing DCS BS, and I don't know what I have done but the letters on the main menu are all stuffed up, very hard to read. What would have caused this, ie... mi((^ion and other like cam{(:in etc. Anyone know if this is a lanuage issue? Cheers me:smilewink:

yep I agree This is one Sim worth buying, it has hours of depth and game play well worth the money.
-
yeah his nose How did you guess? :megalol:

Are you sure? It looks alot like South Australia, however I do believe Australia and Africa have the same terrian and we get some big white pointers in South Australia. Cheers

Excellent replies Thanks to you all, all this information will come in handy. With regard height I thought 500 was low, not sure what it is reading but I climbed to 500 on the hud, although it seemed a tad higher outside I must say. Looked more like a 1000ft (from my parachuting days). I cannot help ask if I fly to low don't I become a risk to small arms fire and RPG's?:book: I only ask as a mate of mine just came back from Iraq and he was telling me when he was being flown around in choppers they either flew high or low, damn my memory is crap, anyway he said you could see the flashes from their weapons from the bad guys below but they were always concerned re- RPG's, have I got this right? Might have been they were flying higher alt rather than low, sorry about getting the story wrong. I guess relating this back to the sim, I might have thought 500 was low?:pilotfly:

Until...I was hit and falling out the sky, can anyone help clear this up for me? I am flying along, 500ft, suddenly I am hit (maybe a shoulder launched sam?) what concerns me is nothing came up on the warning displays, anyone with any thoughts on my demise? Cheers:thumbup:
