  1. When my internet is down and I start DCS usually it tries to connect to the authentication server. If it realizes that there's no internet connection, it shows me a countdown timer with usually a couple days - based on my previous authentication/license check, and a box that warns me that multiplayer will not be available. I'm sure if you're only online once in a while so the software can make sure your credentials are legit, you should be able to play single player offline no problem. Umm note this is the standalone DCS version, not Steam.
  2. We've all been there :smilewink:
  3. This is going to sound crazy but ask your friend to reboot his router and then try again. I had a similar problem with another game and for some reason something got corrupted in my router's tables and wouldn't let me connect to that specific IP. A reboot fixed it.
  4. We're usually a pretty friendly bunch. Right up until your RWR goes off.
  5. I've had it crash only once in open beta, and sometimes it hangs on start. But apart from that it's fine. There are bugs though. If you can live with bugs (they do mostly get fixed every few weeks or so), go for it. Expect to have to download a multi-hundred megabytes of update data every few weeks or so though. Not fun if you're on a metered connection.
  6. Yeah that's kind of disappointing but for $10 I won't complain too much. Heck even the missions were missing on my computer - but I found the problem. My game is installed on my D: drive, and the missions are usually kept in the C:\User\Saved Games\ directory. Looking in the appropriate AC10_2 sub directory on my D: drive let me find the A10-II equivalent of the basic missions. But I can't find any campaigns anywhere :( Of course the manual is great and there's a great table on page 91 I think (just updated with color!) that explains all the DMS/TMS combinations for you. All that was missing there were China Hat combos too :) There's a way to get to fly the original A-10 missions with an A-10 II - you just need to load the old mission in the mission editor, find the A-10 you're going to fly and change it to an A-10 II, then (without saving because that will overwrite your original!) start the mission.
  7. If at any point you feel like dropping bombs on something from the sky, then yes, the A-10C is totally worth it. Warning: it comes with a learning curve.
  8. It didn't install automatically for me I had to start DCS World, go into the module manager and hit REFRESH down at the bottom. Then it "found" it and asked to restart to download it. After that no problems. Hope this helps.
  9. It's not the community - it's humanity in general. You can never please everyone - ever. Reminds me of an old story of a guy and his son walking through a village with a loaded donkey. Some people make comments about that poor donkey who must be so tired carrying all that baggage. So they change things around. At the next village the father is riding the donkey and the son is walking carrying the bags. Villagers say "what a cruel man making his son do all the work while riding the donkey". So they swap around, son rides donkey while father carries bags - "look at that selfish kid, he has no respect for his elderly father making him suffer so". Next village the kid and the father are both carrying the donkey and the baggage. Villagers go "Did you get a load of those idiots?"
  10. Nah the modules work fine if you just click out of it. I'm guessing it's more a StarForce thing than an ED thing. Let's all take a moment to reflect on how much we love StarForce (yeah yeah I know, 12 years ago things were different) :)
  11. Any reason why the copy protection for A-10C should suddenly decide to pop up a dialog box out of the blue today asking me to put in my serial key on starting DCS, when I have already installed it with the correct key a long time ago? Did you guys make some changes, is something weird going on with my system, or is this a known issue? Thanks. Let me know if you need more info.
  12. Grumman A-6 Intruder, to go with our new carriers. Paint it Black, boys :)
  13. Rent seeking is like the holy grail for any business. However it encourages laziness, since a regular income stream actually reduces the incentive to come up with new concepts and ideas. Look at cable and phone companies and how they fail to expand or even update their infrastructure until they absolutely have to. Imagine how long it would take your landlord to fix the broken toilet if the contract/law didn't oblige him to do it within a certain time period. Once you're in rent Nirvana, the only reason to leave is when subs start dropping. But when that happens it's usually too late to save the business since you've burned all your customers.
  14. >no matter what i do i am still have the flashing square on the HUD You could always shoot down the bad guy! That will get rid of the square. Sorry I couldn't resist
  15. You sure he wasn't just trying to recover from a stall?:lol::lol:
  16. Since I paid for both Blackshark AND Blackshark 2, I expect a double discount! :)
  17. Not necessarily. If you have no idea what you did "wrong" in the first place, you won't learn much from it. I highly recommend an add on program called "TACVIEW". It's a flight analysis tool that basically "saves" data from your session, including data from enemy weapons, and when your mission is over you can review it any amount of times, at any speed, from any angle. You can see when the bad guy launched, how you reacted, etc. With THAT information, and by reading/watching videos online, you can start to form an idea of what you should have done versus what you actually did - and THAT will help you learn. I believe Tacview has a free limited feature version so you can try it out - and note I am not affiliated with that project in any way. Just beware some multiplayer servers prevent programs like Tacview from recording the last 15 minutes of a session to prevent using it to cheat.
