A very nice setup for the pico 4. Similar to mine. You should manage very nice performance. I use virtual desktop. Godlike. Pc plugged into router via Ethernet. Modem in same room with Wi-Fi 6 and pico connected to that. Use VDXR as the runtime. Get rid of steamvr completely. I recently tried pico connect again, but VD is just better. Don’t need to mess around with adrenaline settings. I use HEVC codec with 150 mbps. 72hz streaming. most settings high or maxed in dcs. No msaa - not required. High textures. Extreme visibility. Disable openXR toolkit. Maybe try quadview foviated rendering. I get a solid 72fps except for maybe very very low over a city where maybe it drops to 60. Other than that it’s pretty much stutter free and a really good experience. I’ve used previously Pimax 8kx and reverb g2 and the pico 4 is way better than both in every way. All I all I’ve found the pico 4 to be very easy to setup and use. Just works every time.

Which codec do u use for that? I've only been using hvec. Seems to be quite good.

Yesterday inwas forced to revisit the pico connect app as VD had had an update but hadn't been synchronised with the app store streaming app! Result VD not working. So I reinstalled Pico connect. I was very pleasantly surprised. It's had a good few updates since I last tried it but yo my old eyes it was a better image and better performance than inwas getting on VD with my 7900xtx. I only tried it wireless and will test it wired later. I was easily holding a steady 72fps in Beirut at sunrise with lots of clouds and all settings pretty high and Ultra selected in pico. Great to have options and for now I'm actually going to stick with the pico connect over VD.

I do think it may be a really good option for dcs. I just wonder if they haven't priced the pico a bit too high, asbit now comes in at a higher price than the q3. I'm not sure yet if many will be tempted by that. It's a shame because I actually think the pico brand are making a really nice product.

Sounds quite interesting. I’m looking forward to seeing some real user reviews. Might be worth upgrading my p4.

Has anyone seen, heard or even got their hands on this in dcs yet? I’m very curious to see how it will perform. I currently own a pico 4 and love it for dcs. It replaced my 8kx and was better in every way. However it would be great to see some hand tracking options and decent pass through that this seems to offer. I’m guessing it’s just hitting the market now so probably not many real users have it yet but I expect they soon will start trickling in.

Is this campaign still being updated? I'm having a similar problem again with mission 5. It seems the ch47 never spawns and the last message I get is from the cobra confirming convoy destroyed and scanning for more targets. After that nothing more happens and there is no change or evacuation.

The days of people gaining that kind of experience on one single type are sadly probably done. That’s an impressive amount of experience and wealth of knowledge that I hope doesn’t get lost. -
Did u fix this? I had it happen to me recently. Was driving me crazy. U don't use a usb hub do u? If so try unplugging the ufc from that and plug it into the PC instead. In my case it seemed there was too much power draw with all 4 usb in kne hub. The ufc takes the largest draw. When I removed that all worked again.

Good setup. Actually good choice just getting the chair. It's the best part of the setup. I got the whole thing when it released and the rest was pretty useless and all been replaced by 4080/4040 aluminium extrusion bolted onto the chair. Very easy to do and u can customise later to exactly what u need around the chair.

Can we get the option for force trim on release of the the CD trim button? At the moment it seems to be only on pressing. Both would be good I guess to cater for all, but I certainly find the trim reseting to the datum on release to be more useful and realistic.

Thanks for the replies guys. Looking forward to receiving mine when I get home from work in a couple days. I'll give the nlr software a go first then as I only have the pad and no other kickers and see what it's like. Good to know dcs is now supported.
-
I just ordered the hf8 and trying to work out the best way to implement it. There's not many recent posts anywhere. NLR claimed dcs support was coming in q2 2023 which has now come and gone but I see no updates on their website. Most posts I've read are at least a year old and folks are using and recommending SSA. Does anyone have any update on this? Does the nlr software now support and work well with dcs or is ssa still the best option to date?

@sclearman did u decide what to build yet? I went through a few iterations of this myself, however s a 100% vr player who enjoys several modules I’ve thrown more effort into vr and immersion. As the tech is rapidly evolving and augmented/mixed reality becomes more of a thing, more options open up. For me, is really hard to beat the immersion vr gives you. I settled on a winwing setup with their phoenix MIP setup, Orion HOTAS and their PTO panel. I can easily switch between aircraft and still use the mfds and just swap out the stick from f18 to f16. I would also suggest building your own frame out of aluminum 8040, as u can make it exactly how u want and then it’s very customizable and easy to bolt on other things as and when u want. Check out panels from the likes of tekcreations and hispanels, then u can easily build extra panels and wire them yourself. As far as which plane, that’s a really hard one! The f18 is certainly one of my favorites too, but the a10c is also very hard to beat for pure ground pounding fun. The advantage of vr here is again that immersion as u switch aircraft. It’s pretty straight forward to make a few accurate usb controller panels and enclosures for them which you could switch in and out as u change aircraft. I made quite a few with my very limited skills and it’s fairly inexpensive. I didn’t bother printing and cutting myself and just ordered the panels and switches. good luck with whatever you choose and it will be a great fun project no matter what you go for.

This seems to have go a little under the radar but it appears that from 7 august psvr2 will work with pc and a pc adapter for connection will be available. Does anyone know if this will work with standalone dcs, not just steam games and openXR? if it does this could be a really good solution for pcvr and dcs with OLED screens, eye tracking and a relatively low price. I’m surprised this has not received more attention but I think all the Pimax hype and other newer headsets steal the limelight a bit. If this is a viable option it might be very tempting to upgrade from my pico4 as I’ve just cancelled my crystal light preorder - or at least tried to! (Another story!)

I actually received a generic reply directing me to pimax faq and thr website, so not desperately helpful so far in answering my question.
-
Yep I fired off a mail to them today and I'm sure they'll reply fairly promptly. Just wondering if anyone here had heard anything as there is very little, of any info on the forums or discord right now.
-
Has anyone received theirs yet or any info regarding it? I made a pre-order back in April and received a mail in June saying there was some delay but more info to come in July but so far nothing. Has anyone heard any more or know anything more about the status?

I've had a bit of a summer hiatus from dcs due to all the various summer activities and family stuff. Jumped back in this week to download my pre ordered afghan map as well as a few other patches. I read so many negative comments and feedback in performance and bugs, but my experience doesn't reflect much of this at all. The afghan map looks wonderful. I'm very impressed with this EA map and the areas that are currently covered. I've been flying around, committing various virtual war crimes in the f16, 18, ah64 and the mighty a10c2 (still the best aircraft in dcs!!). Performance has been excellent in all modules and it seems to me it is just getting better and better with each update. Gone the the lagging and stutters of days of old. I'm still using a pico 4 and it looks absolutely fantastic. Over the years the general trajectory of dcs improvements has been really very good when we take a step back and look at how far things have come. Now very excitedly waiting for the ch47 and possibly a crystal light (on pre-order). The pimax may be cancelled though as I'm actually still really impressed and happy with the pico 4. It will be interesting tonsee more reviews and comparisons as they come. Thanks again ED for another good update and keep up the good work. Great to see so many exciting and interesting developments coming to fruition and the continued evolution of this wonderful sim.

I've been testing and flying more now in both f16 and f18 and mostly around the high detailed areas. My test mission now is a combination of a low level strike mission from Bas100 with 4 jets. A bunch of other packages flying around hitting other targets nearby as well as a fee packages of Russian fighters coming in. All in all I'm very happy with the vr performance and have not experienced any issues at all, even flying low level in formation over the trees. I'm using my usual dcs settings, with all max or high, msaa x2. No upsampling. Pico 4 and pimax 8kx. I'm starting to really like this map.

They are the same. I have both grips and interchange them regularly. It's very simple to do and u actually don't ever even need to take the finger lifts off the base. Just unscrew the grip from the lift and screw in the new one.
-
Yep, I’m aware of that. My point however is that they will get much more feedback if they can engage with the dcs community here in the forum.
-
This. I’ve been flying around a bit today and so far really like the new terrain. However it is a work in progress and Orbx really needs to engage here to get the most feedback from dcs players. I’ve noticed a few little things that need adjustment. For example the ILS at Bodø is slightly offset to the north. It appears to be somewhere over the apron or the tower. Not a biggie for most but it’s a minor issue. I also wonder if the actual ils course is slightly off (should be 072, but I need to check that further.

In the teaser pre-order video there is a couple of other nice little details I just noticed. The ground units ai, especially the infantry units look to be significantly improved. Is this something we are likely to get as well at the same time as the release for ch47 / afghan map? Also the hummer driving out of the back seems to be a new feature. Are we going to see some more detailed logistic type / ai functions with the ch47? Very nice to see. Damn this is gonna be an expensive month. Pimax crystal light preordered, now afghan and ch47 too. June is going to be a great month and a whole new dcs experience for me. (edit - sorry, think I probably put this in the wrong thread. If so, can mod kindly move it over to the ch47 discussion thread)

Yeah...me too before I got into the driving seats . Best brown-out inducer I ever seen . That thing could brown out a 20 mile radius i sand and dust! Awesome aircraft.
