Very good for passmark. My experience directly comparing directly back to back my overclocked 3800xt to the 5800x3d in dcs is vastly different and is a very significant improvement especially in mp. I guess it all depends on how and what you test for. One thing I know for sure is the x3d works extremely well in dcs.

60hz flicker for me makes it totally unusable. I've tried several times to see if I can get used to it but it just causes headaches. It makes me wonder of there has been some changes in the production of the g2 and perhaps its earlier models where this is more noticeable. I got mine literally the day they launched. I wish I could get it to work. Possibly there could be other settings that exasperated it. It's especially noticeable for me in bighter areas such as sky and clouds. -
Just got the chance to test in mp. Flying the apache in the Low Level Hell server and I have to say it was a huge difference. Previously I always had to dial down the settings and even then would get little stutters. Did a run now on the same settings as I use in sp and the fps never dropped. As smooth as it was in sp. Very impressed.

Error 2 is a runtime error. I was getting this when I installed again for a while and not 100% sure how I fixed it. Try uninstalling and reinstalling the toolkit and make sure your openxr for Windows is latest version from the ms store. The other possibility is one of the 3 files is corrupt. Check the bin folder see if the compiler is duplicated. Failing that remove the 3 files from bin and download them from new. I think someone provided a Dropbox link earlier. Then drop them in your bin folder again. -
I wouldn't attempt to play 90fps myself. It was more for testing. I lock my fps normally to 45 with radeon chill. I wanted to just see how much overhead I had and get gpu and cpu times. Settings I use are 100% openxr resolution with fsr on in toolkit. In game all fairly high with shadows flat. Visibility ultra, textures high. I would say my more normal fps would be 60-70 if I didn't lock it. 90 was around 3000' over batumi in a10c. It won't maintain that for long.

It's an amd option in the amd adrenaline software. -

Yep. Pretty much only fly Apache and a10c2. chill works like an absolute charm for me in both. Totally smooths out everything like mr should. There is a little ghosting out to the sides but to be honest if urn flying at 100’ and look out the side that’s how it looks anyway. I tried chill at different fps. I can now hold a steady 70, so i tried 70, 60 and 50 but 45 is the absolute smoothest setting. -

It was mentioned before, but for anyone using an amd gpu, be sure to set your minimum clock speed to 100 below the max clock speed via adrenaline software. I just upgraded my cpu and adrenaline had reset all the previous settings and I couldn’t understand why I was getting some jitters. Reset the minimum clock speed and all gone, back to total smoothness. -
I’m more and more impressed with this cpu the more I test. Today for the first time ever I managed 90fps in vr in the a10c from and around batumi without sacrificing much on graphics settings. Running 100% resolution in openXR and some fsr in the toolkit. Stays above 70 with cpu frametimes in single figures most of the time. I’m now gpu bound, which is no bad place to be and no complaint given I’m using a 6900xt. The most notable improvements are those times when I’d expect fps to tank, it just doesn’t and remains totally smooth. For me this was often doing low level gun runs in the a10 and flying close to the ai vehicles or firing off mavericks. Now, not a jitter. It’s totally stable. For me it’s a no brainer now and very clear this works extremely well for my setup.

I have found pretty much all the Radeon graphics settings to be ineffective. Frame rate control doesn’t work for me either. FSR seems to work well for me in openXR. As long as I don’t overdo it there is a negligible image decrease at 85-90% but a fairly decent performance gain. The absolute must for me with my settings is Chill. This locks the frame time on the gpu to 22ms which gives a constant 45fps. Then as long as my cpu is producing better than 22ms times there is no microstutters and it’s perfectly smooth. I tuned the gpu with graphics settings that guarantee better than 45fps then just tune the stuff that affects cpu to keep it within as well. I can see all of this nicely in the openXR display. Easy to monitor and see what’s going on. -
After a bit more testing the benefits are showing now. My previous test mission was very gpu intensive as it was lots of shadows, sunrise, cityscape etc, so obviously always gpu bound and still is. I just tested a super carrier with a hornet and full deck with as much ai as can be packed into the ship. This was something I could not do before without a lot of stutters. Now it’s rock solid locked at 45fps chill and not a stutter in sight. Clearly the x3d makes a big leap for me in being able to process other units and ai. Definitely impressive. Even taxiing around on deck between all the other aircraft, not a single fps drop.

So now i jumped on the boat too and picked up a 5800x3d to pair with my 6900xt. Did a quick test a10c Beirut sunrise. I did not notice a huge difference and it does seem to run a little hotter than my 3800xt. It's definitely less small microstutters although I always use radeon chill to keep 45fps. Then it's very smooth. Low over Beirut it's still dropping to 40 at times and cpu times gonup to 23-29 ms. I think I need to look at the tuning and as I had to download a new bios update, some of my settings may need to be looked at. I haven't tested mp or liberation yet.

Thanks. I’m still a little lost as to how the whole cache is so effectIve given the clock speed is so much lower. I have 64gb 3600hz RAM. I have my 3800xt oc’d to 4.3 so it feels a bit weird to go backwards on speed, but it appears the stats on performance speak for themself, so how it gets there is unimportant.
-
Damn you @nikoel. You just convinced me . You are costing me a lot. As I am also on a 6900xt our systems are pretty much identical. This was exactly the kind of info I needed. They actually have the x3d in stock in my local shop, so I think I’ll pull the plug. I was on the fence waiting to see some real feedback on appreciable gains. Coming from a 3800xt it sounds like it will be worthwhile. What are you using for cooling?

Fixed it. I still had the 3 files on my PC sonwas able to use them from a few weeks ago. Seems the installer was the broken bit. -

Just got home after a week and updated everything and now scs won't open with openxr. Did a repair and clean. Used the new openxr composite link to update tools. Any ideas? I'm stuck. -
That's pretty impressive. What gpu do u run?

This might end up costing me some hard earned cash soon!

Ah cool. Thanks. I forgot u use 60hz. Gives me a few things to try. There are so many different routes depending on what u want to achieve and thus on one of the big advantages of openxr. I'm playing with oversampling to get best possible image but keeping 45fps. That seems to be the sweet spot of compromise for me. I might try some of your combos as well just out of interest. FWIW at 120% resolution it looks amazing. -

Ah ok. Got it. I see you undersample too, which I don't. In a10c I get similar, but was referring more to apache, so mostly very low. In general I have good stable, smooth performance and timings, all at 45fps but won't get less than 20ms let alone anywhere close to 11ms for apache. I'd love to be able to get frame times down to allow me to run 90fps, but seems like a pipe dream in the dcs vr single core engine. I'm not sure I'm following your method. You are getting 75fps in game with those setting but only 61fps showing in the screenshot of the menu. My menu page is never below 90fps, but in a mission it's of course drops. -
@retlawI’m very interested in this myself and considering the upgrade from my 3800xt. I’ve got the same set up as you and do see the cpu struggling. im not sure yet just how much and where the appreciable benefits will be felt but please keep posting updates to how you get on. I don’t use mr at all in openXR and find I don’t need it. An interesting test you can try is in sp 120% res in openXR with 100% fsr, no msaa, no af. see what kind of frametimes you get and fps. Then toggle Radeon chill on and see how it works with fps locked at 45. I have to admit I’m a bit confused by the amd tech specs for the xd but I’m assuming overclocked as well it should reduce the frametimes when there’s more ai and over cities, airports Etc.

Check in the openXR toolkit that field of view is set to 100%. Anything else and you’ll get weird effects like you describe.
