For me it's the Pico 4 which is the easiest to run, also it is very stable. I have G2, Pimax 8KX, Pico4 and Quest 2. Quest 2 would probably be just as easy and stable as Pico 4, but since the visuals is so bad compared to the Pico4, I never use the Q2. Pimax 8KX is collecting dust. Same with the G2 now after I got my RTX 4090, the Pico4 gives me the best visuals. "When it works" statement about your Pico 4 I really don't understand. It just works. I have both G2 and Pico 4. The Pico 4 gives me the best visuals and the best comfort. It is so light on the head. Be aware that I run it with a RTX 4090 and an Intel I9 13900K. Before I had a an Intel I9 9900K and RTX 3090. Then I prefered the visuals I could get from the G2. Anyway, I never use my G2 anymore, but I am keeping it as a "backup" just in case.

SteamVR is being launched when you start a game in PCVR when using Virtual Desktop. You do not use Streaming assistant/Pico Link when using the Virtual Desktop solution. Also make sure you only download the PC Virtual Desktop application for windows from this site: https://www.vrdesktop.net/ - and not from Steam (that Virtual Desktopp app in the Steam store is not the right one and not for Pico). You can of course launch SteamVR from the Virtual Desktop app before launching the game if you want, but not nescessary if it is all correctly set up

But I got your attention, didn´t I? Nah come on, cheer up! The Realsimulator force sensing base and stick is a big thing for me. I’ve been simming since the early 80’s and this was a huge upgrade. Huge upgrade! Also, it was a little joke in that head line, that little ;). It’s Saturday - have a beer and smile. Also, this thread got interesting with the discussion about Winwing vs Realsimulator.
-
Yes, I think it is. I also have the Reverb G2, but now I prefer the Pico 4. BUT - you have to have good graphics card (and cpu).
-
Hi, thanks, I´ve been on vacation so no chance to check things out the last week or so. But, yes, I know that I have to restart DCS. I change the resolution before entering the game, but it seems not to do anything, so something strange is going on on my system.
-
I did consider the Winwing. But I went for Realsimulator. I could not test either before ordering, so I had to read reviews and customer experiences. Both how the joysticks operate, software solution, how you can customize things, the Realsmulator having the right forward angle for the grip, and much much more, and also customer service. One I had to wait 10-20 days for after ordering (Winwing), the other I could get on my door the day after ordering. Also Realsimualtor have been making force sensing stick for a long time, and as far as I can find out, Winwing just released their first one. That doesn`t mean Winwing isn`t good or of good quality. I wouldn`t know because I could not test either. So many things considered... I chose Realsimulator. They deliver to the professional marked, and I found the Norwegian Airforce on their customer list too. Being a Norwegian I thought it can`t be a too bad company. Hopefully. I had the money. Seriously if money was into my descision, I would not buy any of them and be happy with my Virpil base and Thrustmaster grip (which I am happy with for other airplanes of course). I might go for a Winwing solution for the F16 throttle. They look nice.

Ok, thanks! I have ASW off when I check the fps numbers, so they are correct. I forgot I have fpsVR, so I can use that when using SteamVR.
-
Thanks, yup, I got those numbers from your last post. But afte choosing Godlike, I have increased the resolution in SteamVR to about 3800x3800 something... But I have the same fps (ASW off of course to check this)... and it doesn't look clearer. So I'm suspecting that while in DCS whatever I did in SteamVR settings doesn't impact render resolution in DCS, and that the Godlike numbers are used anyway. So, is it possible to see the resolution in the headset like one can get the fps up ?This is of course while playing with OpenXR/Steam VR method. Also, while playing DCS with Oculus runtime and not even launching SteamVR, the same question - how can I see the resolution in the headset while playing?
-
How can I check in-game render resolution in DCS for Pico 4 ? It seems to me that when I use the OpenXR/SteamVR solution and choose Godlike in Virtual Desktop streaming settings - and also increase SteamVR resolution in SteamVR settings above Godlike - it doesn't do much? I have set this to apprx 3800x3800 (or thereabout) in SteamVR settings. But, I am beginning to suspect that I am stuck in Godlike resolution (which is 3120x3120). Not sure though. Also when using Oculus runtime method - how to I check in-game render resolution for the Pico 4. I would suspect that it is 3120x3120 because VD settings is set to Godlike. But using the Oculus runtime gives me a sharper picture than using OpenXR/SteamVr method. And better fps too. So I am curios
-
Ok, my old method with SteamVR was actually easier because I could just double click a shortcut icon on my desktop and everything started up. SteamVR is of course booting itself up, but I don't have to do something extra for that. Now I have to move the mouse pointer all the way down and right and then right click and then... Life is tough Anyway, using the Oculus runtime it works and gives me better results. I don't know what XRNS or VRNS is, so no worries for me. I can't use OpenXR toolkit anymore, but... really - I get good performance by this method. Actually better.
-
Hey! I got it to work! Finally! I mean, starting DCS by right-clicking the VD in the system tray and select "Launch game..." and by that using method the Oculus runtime and not opening SteamVR at all. I needed to remove the " --force_OpenXR" statement in the shortcut that I choose with "Launch game...", and only keep the " --force_enable_vr" statement in there. Doh! Of course having the --force_openXR would open SteamVR since that is used for OpenXR with Pico. Didn´t think of that. My results? Using Oculus runtime? Wow - this actually worked! I did 5 test runs, on the Caucasus map, F-18 - Instant Action - Ready on the Ramp mission. I taxi to the runway, take off, fly the same pattern at about 2000 feet above ground level... There is no doubt - I gained 7-10 frames. Also the image was crisper, clearer. Not by much, but visible to even my 53 year old eyes. The reason I tested the exact same route 5 times, both with SteamVR and then without SteamVR but with Oculus runtime, was that I was so surprised. Usually when people post a method that they say it's so different and they gain fps - it's many times just a frame or two. But this -- very noticeable. I was thinking that having SteamVR running didn't bother me - and it didn't. I thought the game ran pretty well. But, this difference is too big to ignore even for me. Every frame counts in VR At least when it´s up to ten fps. And yeah, by using this method I for sure are using Oculus runtime. SteamVR doesn't start up, and checking the Virtual Desktop overlay by clicking both Pico thumb sticks, it says Runtime Oculus And I have never installed anything from Oculus on this PC, so my theory was wrong (that it couldn't work without installing Oculus software).
-
Does this mean that Oculus runtime is not OpenXR? Because I can use OpenXR Toolkit. I have tried finding any Oculus services, files or anything on my PC. Nothing. So that's why I am thinking if one hasn't at anytime installed anything from Oculus on the PC ever (like me), you cannot use Oculus runtime, and therefore have to use OpenXR through SteamVR for DCS Beta. I could be wrong, I'll do some more testing. But it sure would fun to get an exact explanation on how you guys do it. Especially if it is better than OpenXR- which I would like to test myselft too. Because starting DCS by right clicking the VirtualDesktop icon in the system tray and choosing "Launch game..." does not do the trick on my PC.
-
I only got it to either not enter VR at all or start SteamVR as the OpenXR, so no differnce for me. Surely you must have an Oculus OpenXR runtime somewhere on your PC?
-
Thanks, I will check it out
-
Not sure what you mean by "In the menu bar". But - did a typo... my command line in my Shortcut to the DCS.exe files is : "C:\DCS World OpenBeta\bin\DCS.exe" --force_enable_VR --force_OpenXR And yes, first DCS starts load, and then as it enters VR, SteamVR launches too. And checking SteamVR settings under Developer it says :"Current OpenXR Runtime: SteamVR".
-
This is what I do to launch the game in VR with the Pico. I am running the beta version of DCS. First of all, my desktop shortcut to the DCS exe file looks like this: "C:\DCS World OpenBeta\bin\DCS.exe" --force_enable_VR --force_OpenXR Having the VD desktop application running on the Windows PC (on my PC it loads when Windows boots), I put my Pico 4 headset on, click on the Virtual Desktop app there. And then I am in Virtual Desktop. I put my Pico handcontrollers aways, and use the mouse to click the DCS shortcut on my Windows desktop. And then DCS starts in VR. Easy. I am not using open composite. Maybe I misunderstand your problem . But, just wanted to tell you and others that I am getting very good results very easy, and coming from the Reverb G2 I now don't feel I miss anything in terms of resolution and clarity. In fact, I have a clear picture in most of the field of view - which was something the G2 couldn't do. But, to run the Oculus API, isn't it nescessary at one point to have installed some Oculus software on the PC? I have not done that on this Windows installation, so I haven't tried that. Sorry If I am adding to the confusion. I am getting a bit confused myself about this Oculus thing, which I don't understand why I would use on the Pico 4. I don't think I will install any Oculus software anyway. Things are working very good now, and I'm afraid to mess things up

Ok, it doesn' change "everything". But,I just got the FSSB-RL MKII ULTRA base + F16SGRH V2 grip from a company called Realsimulator - who also makes simulators and equipment for the professional market. Looking at the Realsimulator homepage you'll see that this base+stick combination is... expensive. So much about our hobby is that. And the way one controls the airplane (F16) in the sim should have a priority - I think. Expensive, but I cannot understand why Realsimulator haven't got any more attention than it has. I mean, until 14 days ago, I've heard about Virpil, Winwing, Thrustmaster, VKB, Saitek, CH, Logitech.... lots of them. But never Realsimulator. I was looking for a force sensitive stick for F16 with realistic movement, and I found Winwings solution. Which sounded nice. I also found Realsimulator, and I went for that. And I am so glad I did. For flying F16 sims I have used a lot different setups over the years, from just the Commodore 64 keyboard, to Spectravideo joystick in the 80's, and later to CH, Logitech, Saitek, and then finally Thrustmaster for a number of years. And then I tried Virbil Warbird base with the Thrustmaster A10/F16 grip about a year ago - and that was much better than the all Thrustmaster solution. That Warthog joystick base... not very good compared to the Virpil. My opinion only, of course. But now, with this Realsimulator force sensing combo - wow!! It totally blows everything else out of the water. Flying with a stick that moves the same amount as the real F16, and uses force sensing input - that in itself feels incredible. And the level of precision on this thing - and all different ways you can customize how your force input should be interpreted by the MKII Ultra base and software - and then sent to the sim--- wow! There so much the cover in that topic, and right now I dont´t have the time. But feel free to ask questions. I've been playing flight simulator/games and combat sims since the very early 80's. This is just incredible. But - there is a but - this combo makes most sense if F16 is a plane that you fly a lot. I have it mounted to the right in my "cockpit" - like in the real thing. But I also have a center mounted Virpil Warbird base for A-10 (using the Thrustmaster grip there) and F18 (got the Thrustmaster grip for that one too), and helos and everything else. If F16 is something you are into, then.. check it out if you haven't already.

The Pico Neo 3 has the same resolution as your Quest 2, and also same kind of lenses - freshnel. Also, the Pico Neo 3 has smaller field of View than the Pico 4. So... I wouldn't go down that route. However, it does have a Display Port connection to the PC for playing PCVR/Sims games. But still, I would not spend money on something that has that resolution and type of lenses now. Pico 4 has higher resolution, noticeably so, and much better lenses ,than the Quest 2. (I have both, Quest 2 and Pico 4). The Pico 4 demands more horsepower to be run to its full potential than the Quest 2. Still, with your setup, you will enjoy a clearer picture, with almost edge to edge clarity. Though it would be even clearer with a RTX 4090 of course. Also, the Pico 4 feels better on your head/face than the Quest 2 - but how much depends of what kind of modifications you have done to your Quest 2.
-
The Quest Pro is way more expensive, so I would have kept my Quest 2 for those Meta games - and get a Pico 4 I have Quest 2, Pico 4, HP Reverb G2. In DCS now I prefer the Pico 4 over the G2. I have an I9 13900K and RTX 4090, and with that I cranked up the resolution to 3800x3800 in SteamVR, ASW always on (motion reprojection in Virtual Desktop app). I dare to say the the clarity I have now is on par with the G2 - except that it is all over the picture, edge to edge. So the picture seems clearer overall, also in the center. With my RTX 3090 I did not experience that, it was clear but not G2 clear picture. This was of course because I had to run SteamVR with a lower resolution than now. Remember that the Quest Pro even though it has flat lenses, the total panel resolution is about 30% lower than the Pico 4. So it will be easer to run, but I don't think it will be as clear as Pico 4. But, I haven't tested Quest Pro, so I won't say anything for sure.
-
Not sure I can answer those questions. All I can say that my former system was an I9 9900k@5Ghz, 32GbRam and a RTX 3090. I had way better performance than you describe here- Both with the Pico 4 and HP Reverb G2. Nr 2 - I can feel it is smooth with reprojection working. And it is working for me with Pico 4. ASW always on in Virtual Desktop PC app. If you just had the headset for an hour or some more, then I believe that you didn't have enough time to get the settings right. You should have had a better experience than this. There's a lot to experiment with in Virtual Desktop, so it can take some time you get the settings right for you. Now I have an I9 13900K and a RTX 4090 and it is incredibly smooth with reprojection and a clear picture almost from edge to edge.

Using buttkicker in DCS
Peedee replied to markturner1960's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
Is there an alternative to Simshaker withAndres addon? It's not possible to buy from his shop now because of the sanctions. I get that error message anyway when I want to check out and pay. No payment solution possible because of the sanctions. I like my buttkicker in my car games and MSFS 2020, but there I can use the official software from buttkicker. But still no solution for DCS. -
I did that, Ethernet-to-USB-C adapter. But it was a hassle. The adapter, though not big at all, needed extra power, but also an extra USB-C female adapter connected to the Ethernet-USB adapters USB-C output, and then the extra USB-C going to the headset from that. And there it was strapped tight. But... Nah, didn´t gain any noticeble decrease in latency, and my WiFi6 connection stays stable between 1080 and 1200 anyway. So. I dropped it. Too many wires. Though sometimes I plug in power in the headset for longer sessions. Just wish Pico would release a Pico 4 Link, like the Pico 3 Link which has both stand alone wireless functionality and a Display Port connection for PCVR.

The solution to getting incredible framerates in VR (with the Pico) is to use pretty high graphic settings i DCS, run both Virtual Desktop and Pico Streaming assistant at the same time - and as an extra number - crank up PD in DCS VR settings to 1.6 --- this will get you 180fps?? In VR. More seriously, trying running both Pico Streaming assistant and Virtual desktop at the same time.... Even if it did work, which it doesn´t - I don´t understand the reasoning behind trying to use two different streaming methods at the same time. Virtual Desktop gives a cleaner image than Pico streaming assistant, but I understand those who cannot use Virtual Desktop with Wifi or getting bad connection with that, well then USB C through the Streaming assistant is a solution. Though a poorer one than a good Wifi connection through Virtual Desktop. And for @RealDCSpilot - the Open XR Toolkit, I still got it installed. Though I disable it through its own menu, and it doesn´t seem to interfere with DCS´graphic quality or frame rate. I enable it for MSFS2020. I also got a HP Reverb G2 which I use it for. And thanks for your help earlier in this thread. I've had some very nice mission flying after I got rid of my stuttering. Not sure which step that helped the most.. but anyway. Very nice now. GodLike+cranking up resolution in SteamVR settings even more gives a pretty clear picture - so much so that I now think my "official" DCS headset from now on will be the Pico 4, and not the Reverb G2 anymore.
-
Well now I have tried with SteamVR set to 3840x3840 for DCS and Pico 4... that was an improvement over "plain" Godlike So thanks for that tip I do have some stutters though, not much. I have only tried one training mission (A-10cII ) in the "original" map with this setting. The stutters are the sort where the audio drop out, kinda stutters too. Almost like it's loading stuff, but it doesn't happen with my Reverb G2. So it could be a connection problem? Checking with the Desktop app for VD I have good connection, so.. don't know. What others settings do you have in the VD desktop app (besides ASW always on), and which codec do you use there? I know I am asking a lot, but... what settings work for you in DCS (I understand we have similar systems) ?
