Thanks, that is a good guide with pictures and all I posted a copy of your link in the pinned thread about Quad view. But in you setup picture of Tallymouse companion app, only 4% in the peripheral resolution - that seemed low! But I have to check it out

Dynamic Foveated Rendering - Everything in one page
Peedee replied to mbucchia's topic in Virtual Reality
Jaapgrolleman from Pimax posted this link in another thread here, I think it's a good addition to Mbucchia's guide https://pimax.com/quad-views-foveated-rendering-for-pimax-crystal/ -
Yes. it is really OMG! In my house now I have one HP Reverb G2, one Reverb (G1), one Quest 2, one Pimax 8KX, two Pico 4. And earlier I have had HTC Vive and Vive Pro. Pimax Crystal is the first one I got where I was thinking OMG when I used it the first times - and I still say (or think) OMG when using it. I've been into VR since 2017. What distortions?? I think one of problems with perhaps some of the Youtube influencers reviews is that quite a number of them got the headset pretty early. Even before the final lenses and software even were ready. I know they used plastic lenses for a while in them. Anyway, distortions isn't anything I would worry about now. One thing is the clarity of the picture. But the colors and contrast of the panels! The local dimming! I don't think people talk about these things enough. Also - the sound solution is very good. I'd even say it is better the G2. And the inside out tracking works flawlessly for simming and car games. I have not done any other types of games on it yet. I sit down in my car og aircraft cockpit and it is perfect for that. As for the controllers? I think I have them somewhere around here. Not sure why anyone would use them in DCS. They would probably work well. They are pretty standard, nothing wrong about them, and nothing execeptional either. Just works. Is everything perfect? Nope, and my 50.000 euros home cinema setup isn't either. I can nitpick all day long in that room (well, not really , but I'm sure I could find something), and probably could with the Crystal too. There is always something... Never tried the Varjo Aero. I considered purchasing one now that the prices has come down, since I already got the basestations and controllers (got those for my Pimax 8Kx). But - not sure what that would have to offer making it worth it. The panels are not as good according to those who have both, especially for night time flying and so on. And the FOV isn't either, especially the vertical FOV. And no built in sound solution. But it is supposed to be more comfortable wearing it, and also no batteries is important. I have seen videos of the vertical FOV and that put me off. I suppose I could get used to it. But... the vertical FOV on the Crystal is amazing. And the horisontal is good, way better than Quest 2 and Reverb G2, somewhat better than Pico 4. (But nowhere near my 8KX of course). So.. being more comfortable would be important. But I have a feeling Aeoro will announce an upgrade model of the Aeoro "soon" (meaning the next 6 months) and I can wait and see. Ok, just some random and not so random thought one Thursday morning here. In short - for simming - yeah, the Crystal is OMG. Even more so for iRacing.

Dynamic Foveated Rendering - Everything in one page

I have the Pimax crystal and I think that maybe it is needed to calibrate the eyetracking every time I turn the headset power on. Not sure. But I have noticed that if check the first picture in eye calibration tool, you know where you see those points forming a circle and you can look at them to check calibration, the dot the doesn't move as fast and accurate as it should. But if I then continue through with the eye full calibration and complete it by watching the dot move across the black screen and then then white screen, and afterwards go into the check calibration picture - the dot behaves as it should and go to the posistion I look very fast and reliable. About adjusting resolutions... I think that if you at this point are CPU limitied, then I think maybe there won't be that much fps to gain? I could be wrong though. -

First off, thank so much mbucchia!! I can now really enjoy my Pimax Crystal, also got the eyetracking working with the Pimax updates yesterday. I checked a bit with the debug_eye_gaze=1 in the settings.cfg file, and inside DCS I was surprised to see how well eyetracking worked It was a bit to read, but I got working good in the end. Just a question, on the wiki page for advanced instructions it says: and that means in my case, Pimax play application for Crystal in Win 11. Now, for some reason Pimax play doesn't allow you to set your resolution directly, instead it uses terms like Balanced, Maximum and so on, or you can set a number manually like 0.5, 0.75 1.0 ... which then translates to specific resolution in the headset. I set mine at "Maxium" in Pimax Play - which translates to something like 4500x5100 or some crazy high number like that. So, inside OpenXR Toolkit I used the "Overide Resolution" and lowered my resolution to 3800x(something). 3800x4400 ish... close to that anyway. So to my question (took a while ) from the quote above - do I understand it correctly now that the resolution settings in the Quad view configuration file in my case are multiplayers of my resolution value set through OpenXR Toolkit "Override resolution" which I have set at 3800x4400 ? Not sure if I make myself understood, English is not my native language (- and that means also it takes some time to read through all the instructions and hopefully understand them correctly) -
So - are you youtube influencer or is eyetracking really released for the rest of us ??

Help setting up my Pimax Crystal for the first time
Peedee replied to Peedee's topic in Virtual Reality
Thanks for asking My PC: I9 13900K, Asus ROG Strix GeForce RTX 4090 OC, 32 GB RAM@6000Mhz. Resolution - well tried a few different settings, but 3500x4142 I think it was last time I played and checked with OpenXR toolkit. I can not get stable 90fps with that resolution. To get stable 90fps I have to lower the resolution so much - or tune down graphic settings so much - that buying the Crystal would seem a waste of lot of money. I get more than 45fps of course, but since motion reprojection/motion smoothing don't work that well, that doesn't help. I have to turn that off. And so that gives me judder. Which I really really don't like at all. With my Reverb G2 I usually used motion reprojection, which worked better than on the Crystal. And with my Pico 4 (same resolution as G2) with the Virtual Desktop solution I got a crisp picture with more or less stable 72fps (or above) - which the Pico 4headset could lock on at. I really wish Crystal would get a 72fps option like Pico4 has. Then I could get smooth gaming and crystal clear picture with the Crystal. Yeah, I know some people get motion sickness with lower than 90fps but me - nope. I can take it. But below 72.... naaaaaaah... too low. So stable 72 and I am good. So - my problem is - not getting 90 fps stable, and motion smoothing not working good, and 72fps not being an option with the headset. But - that being said - I did a bit of flying and being able to spot ground targets really good (at least compared to my other headsets) was... nice -

Thanks, but it seems to be working as it should. Been testing a bit since I got it and the colors and clarity is amazing! Hard to get good performance though. Motion reprojection is not working good. -
Help setting up my Pimax Crystal for the first time
Peedee replied to Peedee's topic in Virtual Reality
Thanks! I installed Pimax Play now. I got an error message during that installation pretty quickly... So could choose Retry, Ignore or Abort - the usual Windows way of solving this. So tried Retry a couple of times - that did not work so aborted. Tried again, but ran the Pimax Play installer as administrator - and this time I could almost finnish the setup program, but just before it finnished - another error message - corrupt file, so Retry, Ignore or abort. Just for the heck of it I chose "Retry" and after two times hitting that, it continued.. Now, up until now at least, I have have a very stable system. I use this PC just for gaming and simming, and never had any issues with either Reverb G2 or the Pico 4 on this PC. So, not at good start there with the Pimax setup software. Hopefully it will work correctly in the end. I could launch the Pimax Play software and log into my account. But I have not yet connected the headset, still charging batteries. The software version is the newest on their web page - found here: https://pimax.com/downloads-manuals/ Crossing my fingers now I will know more later this afternoon. -
Hi everybody, I'm getting my Pimax Crystal this afternoon. While sitting here waiting for it, I thought I'd better off becoming a little prepared. So I started looking around the Pimax website for set up instructions - which I found. But, in there it shows how to plug the various cables into the right ports, power adapter, usb, display port and so on. BUT - should I not install the Pimax Play software first ?, before plugging anything into my PC? I can see no mention of that in their guide. Well, I did find the Pimax Play software download page, but it doesn't tell if I should install that on my PC first before connecting anything. I already have installed the latest version of OpenXr toolkit (version 1.3.2) on my PC because I've been using it with other headsets. As of now, I have no Pimax software installed on my PC. But I have downloaded PimaxXR and Quadview foveated rendering app - but have not installed any of those yet. Will make sure my headsets starts up "normal" first time, though I understand I need PimaxXR to run DCS without SteamVR's Openxr solution. And I have downloaded Pimax Play (latest release version which is 1.14... something), but not yet installed that either. Latest Beta of DCS MT installed already. Anything else I need to download? What is the correct order for doing things software (and hardware) wise?
-
1. yes. I do that through VD with DCS beta. I have a shortcut on my desktop for that. I am not at home these days so don’t remember what I put in there. But you also have to edit a value in Windows registry to make it work. I get somewhat higher fps and also crisper visuals by not using SteamVR. 2. Don’t know
-
It works with multithreading too. In addition to what you have do to start the single thread version, you have to change one value in Windows registry first. Don’t remember the exact location in the registry, but it is there where it states which open XR to use, and you just change that value to “none”. Works like a charm. But, if you play another bar game that use SteamVR, then you have to enter the registry and change it back to none again before launching DCS. I play the multithreaded version with Pico 4 this way, without SteamVR. I get better performance
-
Can’t answer those questions. But do you have a link to the news about Pico4 and open Xr?
-
Thinder´s Virtual Desktop picture looks different than yours (and different to the rest of us too probably) because he is not using the right Virtual Desktop program on his PC. He says he downloaded it from Steam and that is not the correct version for Pico 4. The Pico 4 version for installing on your PC is on this webpage for free : https://www.vrdesktop.net/ So, You are not supposed to use both Streaming assistant and Virtual Desktop. Just Virtual desktop. That’s the easy way. Ah, and I see Qcumber already pointed you in the right direction.
-
My experience with open XR toolkit and Pico 4 is quite opposite. I used Open XR toolkit with my Reverb G2. But disabled it for the Pico 4. Not needed at all. It doesn’t add anything but potential complications on my PC. On a less powerful PCs it might come in handy, yes. But now I am more happy without it.
-
Colors, local dimming - yep, that is my impression too from reviews - that those are Quest Pro advantages. Didn’t know about the brightness, but might be correct too. I don’t consider that is a problem with the Pico 4 though. But the the Pico 4 has better resolution, - the Quest Pro is about 30% less resolution in total. So Quest Pro should be easier on the PC, but less sharp. I have never tried a Quest Pro so I can’t give my own personal impression about it. Just wanted to correct the info on the Pico 4. I recently read some Facebook post about problems with Pico 4 lenses for some people. You might check that out too if you consider it. Mine are good though.
-
?? No problem with Pico4. Smooth as butter. Clear picture all over the field og view. Don’t know which posts you are referring to, but to me this is just plain wrong. I upgraded from Reverb G2 to the Pico 4 and I am very happy with that.
-
The Pico4 is 8000 cheaper… Like I said, the difference is depended on your country. In Norway Quest Pro is over 13.000, and Pico 4 about 5000. Some time ago the Quest Pro was over 18.000 and Pico 4 just over 4000… so.. it changes .
-
I have the G2, but it is collecting dust after I got the Pico4. Very happy with the Pico4, amazing in DCS. Pancake lenses gives edge to edge clarity. Light weight. 2160x2160 resolution per eye, same as G2. But you need a powerful PC to run it well. The Quest Pro has lower resolution and costs 3-4 times as much - depending on your country.
-
That is normal when using OpenXR with the Pico4.
-
Thanks! I will check it out Before the MT update I had with the Pico4 8-10 fps more when using the Oculus runtime than when using the OpenXr through SteamVR. Also the Oculus gave me somewhat crispier/clearer picture. Will test your method later today.
-
For me it's the Pico 4 which is the easiest to run, also it is very stable. I have G2, Pimax 8KX, Pico4 and Quest 2. Quest 2 would probably be just as easy and stable as Pico 4, but since the visuals is so bad compared to the Pico4, I never use the Q2. Pimax 8KX is collecting dust. Same with the G2 now after I got my RTX 4090, the Pico4 gives me the best visuals. "When it works" statement about your Pico 4 I really don't understand. It just works. I have both G2 and Pico 4. The Pico 4 gives me the best visuals and the best comfort. It is so light on the head. Be aware that I run it with a RTX 4090 and an Intel I9 13900K. Before I had a an Intel I9 9900K and RTX 3090. Then I prefered the visuals I could get from the G2. Anyway, I never use my G2 anymore, but I am keeping it as a "backup" just in case.

SteamVR is being launched when you start a game in PCVR when using Virtual Desktop. You do not use Streaming assistant/Pico Link when using the Virtual Desktop solution. Also make sure you only download the PC Virtual Desktop application for windows from this site: https://www.vrdesktop.net/ - and not from Steam (that Virtual Desktopp app in the Steam store is not the right one and not for Pico). You can of course launch SteamVR from the Virtual Desktop app before launching the game if you want, but not nescessary if it is all correctly set up

But I got your attention, didn´t I? Nah come on, cheer up! The Realsimulator force sensing base and stick is a big thing for me. I’ve been simming since the early 80’s and this was a huge upgrade. Huge upgrade! Also, it was a little joke in that head line, that little ;). It’s Saturday - have a beer and smile. Also, this thread got interesting with the discussion about Winwing vs Realsimulator.
