Locating targets tasked by JTAC
My Fing ID replied to Frogfoot1606687865's topic in DCS: A-10C Warthog
OK. I'll have to read up on this. Other than that though can you tell me if what I did was correct? I got the nine line and shoved the coords into a waypoint. I then set this as the target area. I ended up also having to make it a flight point because I couldn't get my FLIR to align to it as a target point, not quiet sure how to. Anyways I aligned the FLIR and started heading to and FP called "IP" because the guy giving me the 9 line said "IP: Ford". I assumed this meant to come at the target from the IP flight point, so I did. He requested mavericks but since I couldn't get that to work I went in with guns. I was promptly told to break off and that I don't have clearance so I went back to IP, which was also the Egress point if I'm reading this correctly. I then went back from IP to the target area, but this time got my maverick to lock. I launched, watched the missile hit the tank, and went back to IP. So is this how we're supposed to do it? Fly to the initial point, fly to the target area, kill, fly to egress? Do I need to continue coms or anything with the guy or just keep hitting targets until he says something? -
Locating targets tasked by JTAC

I'm curious about this stuff too. I've been doing the Training Range mission which has multiple targets and a JTAC. I got the waypoint punched in and tried to set it to my Target Point (the bullseye) and couldn't get that to work. -
Glad I could help!

Mission editor is pretty easy to use. Here's a quick run down that'll give you something to shoot: Open the editor up and find an airfield, they're pretty easy to identify. Next put some enemies somewhere near by. To do this just hit the tank button, set the country to Russia (or whatever, something not US since you don't want to kill your own guys), click the mouse where you want that unit. The window is still open (if not click on your newly placed unit). Next select unit type. I'd say stick with something like a Ural or UAZ because they're unarmed. Go for a BRDM if you want more of a challenge, they have guns. Stay away from anything that shows a blue circle as that's the blue circle of death and you probably don't want to deal with that (it's an AAA or SAM unit). Now for the hog. Push the airplane button and click the mouse on the airfield you want. On the options side switch the plane to an A-10 and the AI to "player" (it should be a list that says different AI difficulties like rookie and such). There are a few more things you can play with here but look down towards 'waypoints' or something like that. There's a menu with a few buttons inside the menu for the airplane itself and this will let you set multiple things. This first menu is for waypoints. Set the current waypoint (where you placed your plane) to "Take off from runway" or "Take off from ramp" if you want to go through all the start up. Next click next to the enemy. A big line should have appeared and this should be your second waypoint. If not then click the airplane you put in game, look at the waypoint controls, click "add" then click next to the enemy. Now click back over by the airfield to add another waypoint, set it to "landing". OK, so that's done, now you'll need some stuff to drop on the enemy. One of those buttons on that little menu inside the plane menu allows you to select armament. I think it looks like a crosshair but I can't remember. Just click through until you find it, you won't hurt anything and you'll know when you see it because a giant gray airplane with armament loadouts will be where the map was. Just select whichever looks like the most fun. Go ahead and switch out of that menu so you can see the map again. Hit the save button and name it something. That's it, you're ready to fly! Hit the blue checkmark and have at it. Steerpoint 2 is the point by the enemy. It's in the air though so if you want to be able to use your FLIR to automatically point to the enemy I think you have to set its altitude to ground level. Not 100% how to do this, I guess just give it an altitude of 0 in the editor. Oh and with that enemy, there's something that says like 1 OF 1. It's two boxes side by side. If you click the right arrow (I think) of the box to the right you can spawn another enemy that will be part of the same group! The box will then say something like 2 OF 2. It can be a different enemy so you can have a Ural and then click that button and change the next guy into a UAZ. To select the Ural again, click the left button for the left box. The box should then say 1 OF 2. Oh and you can add waypoints like you did for the plane if you want these guys moving. Hope this helps. The mission editor is pretty intuitive so I think you'll get it figured out pretty quick.

Never in your life can you come this close to flying an A-10c without knowing what the hell you're doing. Don't let that opportunity pass you up!

No way, we need something like DCS C130. Then we could have all the excitement of taking off, flying, AND landing equipment/troops/supplies! The less combat the better I say!:D

Lol. My first in experience in the air didn't go so well either. I figured I'd probably only need like 50% throttle. All of the sudden there's multiple alarms going off all over the place and I don't even know what any of it means. I thought it was a button that I'd clicked so I was franticly flipping switches then BAM met the ground.

I didn't see a thread like this yet so figured I may as well start one. We're all (well except the testers) just starting out on this so I figured we all have some fun stories to share about flying this thing. So I made a quick mission. I put about 15 enemy infantry on the west side of this river, close to the mouth and by a woodline. I figured the story would be something like US soldiers spotted these fools from the east side of the river and called me in. A trigger was set up so that when I got close red smoke would get popped and I'd have an idea of where the enemy was. My limit of fire (not sure what the AF calls it) was the river because my guys were supposed to be somewhere east of it. I spotted the smoke well after passing the site lol. I started in the air at whatever the default altitude was so I did a half roll and a downwards loop to lose altitude quickly and turn around. Probably not what I should have done but still it was fun. I got lined up pretty well on the river and let my guns go crazy down the west bank. Dunno if I killed anyone but it looked pretty deadly. I had 6 dumb bombs, some rockets, my FLIR magigger and 2 what I'm pretty sure were laser guided bombs. I selected my dumb bombs and dropped all six on the next pass. I figured the smoke would be gone soon, and when it was it would be hard to find that specific area again if I got to far away, so I tried aligning my FLIR to it. Didn't work. I did the china hat up on selected flight point (whatever they're called) but it turns out the flight point was about 10k feet in the air, so it was pretty useless. The smoke left but I kept an eye on where I was. I kept coming in with cannon passes, just completely lighting up the west bank. At the same time I was toying with all sorts of hat controls trying to figure out what the hell to do with that FLIR. About 5 passes later, something happened. I don't know what I did, I think it was china hat back, but the FLIR aligned with my gunsight and followed it. I pointed my gun right at that river edge and moved the FLIR just a bit, and it locked right there! I decided the best course of action was to fly out a little bit and put that area on my 2 oclock (the FLIR magigger was on my right side), hit the ap, and start scanning. After finding the river and zooming really, really far in I found the enemy, well atleast 8 of them. No clue if I killed anyone but these guys were alive. I looked at my weapons and I had 10 rounds left, but still had rockets and those laser guided bombs. I decided to go for a pass with the rockets first then use the LGBs if I missed. I lined up for another pass, going right down the river so I'd only hit the west bank. They're about 2 miles out (I think that's what the site goes by lol) so I pressed the release button. Nothing. I hit it a few more times, even tried the cannon, nothing happened. I look at the HUD and down at the bottom there's a CICC (whatever the weapons system is) error. I went through the left MFD to try to reset it but to no avail. I then selected the LGBs and tried to drop one just to see if it would work. Nothing. Clearly I only had one option left. I circled back around with LGBs selected and the bomb sight up on my HUD. I went in for the dive bomb, speed brakes up, sight on that little square where my laser was pointed, and hit the big red "Jettison all your points" button. Looked back and well everything landed in the river, but if a rocket pod fell on one of those guys I'd have been damn happen. I then proceeded to make about the shortest and possibly worst landing yet. I still haven't figured out how to use the ILS so I just land by eye and the glide slope indicator. I came in fast and high, threw my speedbrakes on and was barely made it but I got on the ground. Of course things can never be that easy, for some reason my 'wheel steering' button didn't work. Then I found out the keyboard wasn't running the the program anymore and well basically all that work was for nothing because I had to Alt-Ctrl-Delete out of A-10. Still damn fun though. So anyone else have a good bit of fun yet? What kind of scenarios are you all coming up with? I've barely looked at the new features on the map editor yet but I noticed there was quiet a bit more in the way of triggers. Maybe I'll try making a better version of this mission. I need to figure out how I did what I did with that FLIR first though, and why the CIRC or whatever went out. Atleast it's not as bad as the last mission where I got a big red error about how the weapon I just tried to drop was jammed on the deal and wouldn't jettison properly lol. These errors are fun and keep you on your toes. Either they happen often, I'm unlucky, or I'm breaking the plane just flying it. Probably the later, the plane screams at me a lot during manuevers!

Yeah it's not all in yet from what I understand.

I don't see the problem. $60 is how much a normal game costs now adays anyway so really it seems like the price they should release at, if not a bit higher. As for SteelBeasts that's a ridiculous price and I refuse to buy it because of that. The only reason they can get away with that is because they're the only thing I know of that comes close to a descent tank sim. Last one I tried wouldn't even let me set joystick controls lol. Anyways selling this for the current price of video games is reasonable.

I feel lucky. I've landed 2 with no ILS (don't quiet know how to use that yet). Both were shot up, one with the engines pretty damaged and avionics/MFDs out. I only made it to the airfield because I landed the one before lol.

Ah got ya! It's that damn selective hearing I tell ya! I've gotta upgrade my driver too. There's a lot of stuff that flashes (buildings and such) but don't really want to get into it until I'm fully up to speed on my drivers, maybe that'll solve it. They're just a pain to upgrade now that the ATI install programs don't want to work and I have to install them via console lol

If possible could we get "LASTE" added to that switch name? It's listed as EAC, and I assume it's the same switch but in the tutorial LASTE was the name that I remembered. Could help clear up more posts from people like me that don't know it's the same thing, well assuming it is lol
-
Thanks, I'll try this out too.

Same problem here. The weapon sighting system for the HUD (can't remember off the top of my head) that we put in test had completed its test. I assumed it was like a computer (correctly apparently lol) that hitting the Ent button would exit it and the tutorial started running again. The MFDs were lit up by then and I was to load data in the right one and get a tac view in the left one. On the right one the button above "Load Data" was highlighted. I clicked it and the tutorial continued but nothing happened. I then clicked the "Load Data" one but nothing happened again. I saw a post saying that you have to hold down the MFD buttons for a little bit of time so I'll try that out. The Tac button was correctly lit up, but it too did nothing when pressed. Of course who knows if I skipped steps, this all happened because I pushed a button after the LASTE switch didn't want to function with any clicks, visible or not. Even moved up the throttle to ensure it wasn't some conflict between the switch and the throttle but nothing happened.

OK it just worked! Apparently either my computer or Comcast really hates sagepay. I used my phone and it worked perfectly. Try another internet connection and / or computer. Hope this helps you.
-
How did you even get to the point where you could put a card in? I've been trying for 3 hours now and I can't even access this sage pay thing. The only numbers I can call are for Ireland and England. It's getting very annoying because it seems I'm the only one with this problem and I can't contact anyone about it. Rather not have to wait another 4 or so months to buy it on steam. // OK it just worked! Apparently either my computer or Comcast really hates sagepay. I used my phone and it worked perfectly. Anyone else have problems with sagepay?
My Fing ID replied to My Fing ID's topic in DCS: A-10C Warthog
No one else is having issues with this site? I don't know why I'd be the only person affected. Any ideas? I've tried Chrome and IE but neither can get the site to load up. Any advice would be appreciated, this is pretty annoying. -
/// OK it just worked! Apparently either my computer or Comcast really hates sagepay. I used my phone and it worked perfectly. Hope this helps someone. So basically try another computer or internet connection. /// Hi. I've been trying to order the game for about an hour now but Sagepay just won't come up for me. Anyone else having this problem? It sounded like someone else was able to get on their page but had a different issue. TY.

You're actually able to get onto their site? Been trying for an hour and it hasn't worked. Sorry I wish I knew how to help.
-
I'm getting the same problem, makes me wish I'd stayed up till midnight and ordered then lol.
-
There's also those pre-paid credit cards you can get at stores but I'm not sure that they'd work or if you have them in your area. Never used them myself just heard of them as an option to this kind of thing before.

I think they're moding heavy right now to keep the forum from exploding with multiple posts. I replied to one that went into the 'buy the beta' thread shortly after. It's probably not you, unless you're being an ass lol. Then again I'm just speculating, but yeah probably just moving your posts to consolidate and keep the forum from moving a mile a minute.

I'd stay away from game mode, atleast with the flight model because you might develop bad habits that will be a pain to change should you decide to switch back. We're also talking about a jet engine airplane so I don't think it will be overly difficult to fly it. It's not like a helicopter that's made to take off and crash, these things seem more like flying cars that are a pain to land. Who knows though, I'll probably crash on take off lol.
