  1. Hello - been a long time away from DCS but trying to return. I'm stuck assigning the thrust levers on my Mongoost-50 in the game (F16c). The lever has two parts. The one on the right adopts only an on and off status like a toggle - not an axis. The one on the left is split with a center detente (like pitch on a joystick, for example) but only gives me an input above the detente. So, right thrust lever is binary (on and off) and left only inputs above the detente and never below. I've spent hours trying to sort this and am getting super frustrated. Did update the firmware today after getting the gear out to set DCS back up again. Everything seems properly calibrated in the Virpil software. Any help?
  2. Fixed my prob :-) Thanks all for the many posts ... helped to read through them.
  3. My ILS is quite hard to fathom. If I enable it on the NMSP, the bars do not appear but if I turn it off on the NMSP the bars do appear (bars are enabled, not stowed and the ILS is powered on and tuned on the right console panel). Plus my ILS flat out will not work at Batumi.
  4. Yep, sorry, was using Firefox 3.6.11 but it is fine in IE. All good now - ty.
  5. Trying to pre-purchase AC-10 but the payment system won't allow me to proceed as it fails to offer options for payment method. See attached - no card options provided.
  6. If I can interrupt the flow, funny as it is, I recall clearly when I decided I had to stop playing EVE (and did, forever). I was walking on a bush track near my place with my g/f and spotted a large rock up ahead. Immediately, my mind 'locked on' to the rock [asteroid] and started scanning for its mineral [ore] content. I swear, it was so real I freaked out a little and never played again. Up till then, I had been getting in about 30-40hrs a week for 6 months on top of work. And not much sleep as you can imagine.
  7. Above the hud, are a bunch of buttons - one will illuminate to show that you have auto-hover engaged.
  8. Same here - I orginally tried to fly the rubbish helos in ARMA2 and kept crashing but I jumped in one the other night after flying BS for a month and found it easy as pie (as it is probably supposed to be in a game like ARMA2). BS has taught me alot about helicopter flight dynamics ... and still so much to learn!!
  9. Just a quick, newb question - with an escort mission like this, would the Ka-50s fly ahead, behind or alongside the Chinooks?
  10. Looks like it should be available in a week in Aus ... here is one retailer that seems to think so: http://www.games101.com.au/product_info.php?products_id=5729
  11. And if you have a non-FFB stick, then definitely search for the post on turning FFB off in the producer.cfg file (I think). I had similar problems until I did this. Here (as posted earlier): You can turn it of in producer.cfg Change true after "ForceFeedbackEnabled" into false.
  12. There are waaay more experienced pilots than me who would be better commenting. However, I can suggest that you fly with the FD off. I think that will help.
  13. With an FFB stick, when you trim, it will physically lock into the trimmed position. So, trim with the stick forward and it will hold forward in both the sim and on your stick. With a non-FFB stick, the stick has to be returned to centre and you have to 'virtualise' where it is physically trimmed in the chopper. So, trim with the stick forward, let it return to centre, and it is trimmed forward in the simulator but not physically on your stick. So, although I have never flown BS with a FFB stick, I imagine it could be easier to understand your trim positioning simply because your stick physically reflects the trim you have set. BTW, tell us what you are finding so hard about trimming? Perhaps someone can help?
  14. Why give up? I came to this with about 12 years of fixed wing simulation experience and boy has it been hard adjusting but so amazingly rewarding. This is the hardest sim I have ever flown but when you start to intuitively understand how to control the Ka-50 the sim becomes truly incredible. Surely you can't be deterred by the trimming? It is really very simple though I think our minds like to complicate it before we work that out :-)
  15. Thank you :-) That's awesome news .....
  16. G'day from Perth :-) Yes, pretty much what I have been doing. Just wasn't sure if there was a 'better' way to do it.
  17. Hi I am now moving on from learning flight and solo fight to using the datalink with wingmen. Have watched the producer's notes numerous times, read manual and many posts but sill a bit confused: Once a wingman has completed his recce and I have the identified targets stored in memory, how do I use them if I want to attack rather than send wingmen to do the job? Is it simply a case of flying towards the targets (using the ABRIS as a visual guide) to get into range or do I create a target point in the PVI to navigate to or is there something even more automated that I can do? Thanks as always Triangle :-)
  18. Sure you can lift off into a hover and rise as high as you like but it won't happen the first time. The chopper is very sensitive and you will need to continually make minute cyclic corrections to keep it at 0km/h - likely it will bank to one side and start drifting so you will need to counter with a slight pull of the cyclic in the other direction. You will need to practice and learn the nuances of the Ka-50s flight dynamics. When I first started with DCS it was crash, crash, crash every five minutes, straight into the ground. I was discouraged. However, I kept practising (I have a training mission I wrote for myself involving take-off, fly waypoints, destroy targets and land) and have probably flow it 30 times. Now, I can rise straight into a stable hover without need for the auto-hover at any height, perform rolling take-offs, hard turns etc. Practice, practice, practice and then practice some more. When it all suddenly starts to 'click', it is a wonderfully satisfying feeling :-) Oh yeah - and watch the producer's notes as often as you can :-)
  19. I have this, too, and have tried running in admin mode but to no avail. Search this forum for logbook - there are a few other threads dealing with the same or similar issue.
  20. LOL ... not exactly succinct but I agree with the argument. I have often been prevented from giving rep where it is due because of the strange 'spread it around' requirement. Would like to see this changed, too.
  21. Yep, Polecat's advice about the '3D setting' changes is correct, even if it seems silly - this was what I required to get AA and AS forced in BS.
  22. Thanks - will do. Really getting the hang of this superb sim now. Best thing since Falcon4.
