  1. I wouldn't. Imagine, Black Shark's finished, all the code's in place, polished . . . . . and it doesn't get released because ED are waiting for a 3D modeller to finish an A10. Um . . . . no. I don't think that makes much sense ;) Release it when it's ready, release any additional 3D models when THEY are ready.
  2. Ended up going for the Abit AB9 - budget was too restrictive for the DS4, which I may regret later. It's occurred to me that having broken two graphics cards, I haven't changed the PSU in my machine. And my brother's graphics card has gone wonky, and the PSU he's been using is on at least one "whoo-err" list. Mmmn. Was rather more careful about PSU selection here . . . . . Even leaving overclocking out of it entirely, I'm rather hoping an E6400, 2GB DDR2 RAM, and a 7950GT should prod some significant amount of buttock ;) Took me a while to twig that I get PS3.0 now, too. Ohhhh, Pacific Fighters Waves . . . . . yum.
  3. Cheers, much appreciated :) The DS-3 is out of stock with my supplier (figures), and I could probably do with shaving the price a fraction from the DS-4 to make me feel better . . . . . having a look to see what I can do, if you've got an alternative then let me know.
  4. This thread finally gets interesting!! Condor's really rather good for this sort of thing, go have a look. Are you seriously suggesting that turbulence modelling is the be-all, end-all, most important priority of a combat flight simulator?
  5. Slim ;) The Black Sea isn't really big enough. Information on the Hornet, although becoming available, is still a little too thin right now . . . . Besides, as far as we know at the moment, the current plans are: Black Shark - Ka50 Tank Killers - upgraded sim from Black Shark in unspecified ways, assume more in the way of detailed modelling for the mudmovers. I've seen the Ka50 modelling up close, and if the other flyables get moved up to that level . . . . oh boy . . . . *Un-named next project* - highly detailed F-16 sim, potentially with MiG29M as well. My personal guess is that the above plan will take an absolute minimum of five years. (no inside information at play here, it's just a guess, don't take it too seriously) Over which time plans could change. It's possible in the long run . . . . and a large number of us would just love to see it . . . but it's not a declared goal, and it will be some time before we know for sure where ED are really taking this sim after Black Shark. . . . . it WOULD kick arse, though . . . . ;)
  6. 30 missions is a nice round number for a big campaign. Any more than that . . . . is OTT. I was close to having a 20-plus mission campaign finished for the Su33, but all of a sudden something happened and . . . . I just stopped. I'm still not sure why, seems I just ran out of . . . something. Time, possibly. Summer kicked in. Final year at Uni. BS Beta. Something like that. I haven't got a hope in hell of picking it up anymore, but I suppose I could send someone what I've got so far. Needs fleshing out, a couple of missions filling in, a bit of background adding. DPS, you up for it perhaps? I had a bit of involvement in BSO, the Su33 campaign around the Navy Mod was going to loosely fit as a chapter of it . . . . I think where it came unstuck was the scope we were aiming for. For a while it looked like we could get there - but there was a point where it became obvious that with other commitments (think the majority of people working on it were students) we couldn't put the time in to keep making progress. Was a sad moment. Part overambition, part unforeseen commitments - was supposed to be a massive campaign in four or more parts, still feel it would have been best to keep that private and release small chunks at a time. Oh well . . . . .
  7. A lot of the lighting effects seem to be tied in to Advanced Haze - is that on? After that, check Lighting and Effects.
  8. I'll spare you the rant about why, but basically I now need a new PC, prontissimo, for not too much money. More power would be good too :-P Currently on a 3700+ that could be carried over, but I need a completely new software setup now so I might as well change the motherboard; hence CPU as well. Radeon X800XL is dead, but want something better this time. Had two SATA2 hard drives already sitting there, still untouched, intend to carry them over. So the new: Am thinking a Core 2 Duo - probably an E6400 for cost/performance grounds. Mobo recomendations? I've not been paying attention - what are all the new RAM speeds about? And what's a decent graphics card for less than £200? PCI-E is virtually taken for granted, think up to 7950GT or X1900XT are within my reach. Yeah. Help!
  9. I didn't know that about the Su25T's jammer . . . but you may misunderstand. Whereas the Su25T's jammer is fixed, the jammers/lasers forming part of the Nemesis system or similar are mounted in turrets and can be aimed towards the threat.
  10. There are more also systems that use this to wake up and aim an IR jammer (as we see fitted to the tail of the Su25T), directly at the seeker head of the incoming missile. Apparently lasers - to burn out the seeker head - are an optional extra. No word on the 20" chrome wheels or neon underlighting, though. To date I'm only aware of them being fitted to helicopters and heavy transports. Suspect it's only a matter of time before we see them on fighters.
  11. Oh well, it was a neat idea :P Guess the CLSID is linked directly to the shape file, then. Nevermind.
  12. Rather suspect it's down to the customer's choice :) Remember reading a criticism of the Russian system from a USMC test pilot who'd flown in a two-seater, so imagine the Russian ones remain the same. The Indian versions . . . don't know. They've had MiGs before and are continuing to buy them, but then if you're buying aircraft in that quantity I imagine Sukhoi will make the HUD symbology do what YOU want it to ;)
  13. Hmmn. There are two CLSIDs for the Sorbtsiya pod in the MeInit. Each has a separate "Element Shapename". If you create two separate Sorbtsiya models, one for left and one for right, and figure out which of the CLSID is which . . . . can you assign the correct shapes to the left and right ECM pods? And does that mean you can put light sources on them? ;)
  14. Um, more a marker round than chemical munition, but that's the difference . . . . Could always try using it against a Stinger and see what happens?
  15. . . . . It's still leather, right?
  16. Secondhand smoke kills, y'know. As a result, all bars north of Hadrian's Wall are now smoke free. Apparently it means you can now SEE the person in front of you . . . . incidentally, the number of one-night-stands north of the border have suddenly suffered a massive drop, Manchester University offers a solution . . . http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/manchester/4468884.stm Fact!
  17. OMG!! teh s3cr3t plan 4 teh forg are teh esca . . . . ohhh. Cancel last :P
  18. Ironically . . . . . nobody really knows :P This is posing a problem for the MoD in the UK - people living around Harrier bases are forever complaining about noise, I believe there's still noise pollution regulations around airfields . . . . and nobody checked the noise levels of the STOVL JSF contenders before production. Whoops.
  19. Dammit man, are you some kind of magician?! Reveal your secret before the waiting eyes of the world!
  20. I've heard that the UK's been copy-pasting some US government docs and laws, but the "Su30-beats-our-current-aircraft-buy-more-new-ones" argument does seem a bit obviously recycled . . . . . As ever, no conditions stated - Skyflash vs R27ER would be more or less a forgone conclusion, WVR would be a foregone conclusion . . . . not sure if the Tornado has multi-target capability with the AMRAAM, either. Against Eurofighter and Meteor, though, I still wouldn't be too concerned. Will watch with interest, though :)
  21. Should we translate this to "I can't take out a Hawk site with my guns, therefore it's wrong"? It's tricky, but doable. The AI's on-rails handling and uncanny eye helps . . . but it's possible to take out a Hawk site gunzo. Might post a track over the weekend. I did a couple of tracks showing how to take out SAM/AAA using only unguided weapons - covered the S300, Patriot, and a group of 5 Shilkas. Will dig up the links. edit: 5x Excellent Shilkas - Track http://www.lockonskins.co.uk/files/tracks/bgp/VipersNest.zip S-300 - Thread, pictures, and track http://forums.ubi.com/eve/forums/a/tpc/f/38610606/m/2211012823?r=4211068823 Patriot/Vulcan - Thread, pictures, and track http://forums.ubi.com/eve/forums/a/tpc/f/38610606/m/2321029823?r=9971033923
  22. Mmmn. Birdy's a scenery man. Have you overlaid one airfield onto another, so the F4s think they're landing at one and the Antonovs think they're taxiing at another? Or have you actually managed to get the AI to do something it should have been doing all along? ;)
  23. OMG!! Someone's been talking! The top secret ED development process is laid bare for all to see! Err . . . . . no. Yer wrong ;) And probably trolling, too. There's a basic lack of understanding going on here. The others seem to be doing a fairly good job of explaining to someone who can't be explained to, but I'm feeling masochistic so will bang my head against the wall again. 1. Black Shark is a helicopter sim. 2. It has won over plenty of fast jet pilots already. If you really don't believe it's your thing, fine. But not everyone else in the world shares that viewpoint. You're funny :P I'll grant you the limited mission aspect - it's a pain in the arse. However, blowing stuff up and joyriding even for a couple of months is worth the money. It's limiting, but then I haven't played Far Cry since I completed it . . . . and I forked out more for that than FC. One day we might get the holy grail of mission generators, but for now I'm not going to cross an otherwise good sim off my list because in six months time I'll stop playing it ;) ( . . . . we're putting a lot of effort into this, aren't we? What's the betting that somewhere there's an F4 forum slapping it's collective back about it? ;) )
  24. A skin can't force that happening, it has to be a model. Have you still got the A-10 model in game? If so, then your A-10.cmd file has been overwritten with a renamed F-16 model. Get a proper A-10.cmd and write it back. If not, then there's a line in your A-10 MeInit section telling it to show an F-16 3D model in the Mission Editor. Think it runs something like shape="F-16". Find that tiny little block and delete it. As to how it can happen - when you install a Loman mod, it backs up the files you're overwriting to a certain folder. If you install the mod once, it'll remove the A-10 model to a backup folder, put the F-16 model in it's place, and be done. If you try and install the mod a second time, it'll move the A-10 model (which is now an F-16 model) to that backup folder, overwriting the previous backup. Your backed-up A-10 file is now an F-16 shape, so when you uninstall it doesn't have an A-10 shape to move back ;)
