. . . . you'd be disappointed if you didn't get something with the game that wasn't on the featurelist? You're inevitably going to be disappointed! The Ka50 is just fantastic. I was never really a fan of helicopters . . . . until I laid my hands on that thing, it's huge fun.

. . . . Buy a bigger case and transplant everything into it, I suppose. The newer graphics cards do tend to be fairly big. What exactly do you mean by "the back" of the card?

The record thread: How fast can you go...

You don't need a maths specialist, you need an F100 designer . . . . SFC values are generally only valid for one flight condition. Without specifying what that flight condition is . . . . we can't really draw much from it. Someone had an F-15A flight manual lying around - that might give some more useful info :) -

22 minutes 30. Which is still slower than GGTharos and his F-15, dammit . . . . -

There's something missing from this thread . . . . A mysterious and mighty presence, not seen since days of old . . . . A faint sense of nostalgia is coming over me . . . and I think I've just put my finger on what it is . . . . We need to shine a red and gold Marine Corps flag onto the clouds - where's Stormin? :P -

If you can find an Su25T that'll do that distance in 12 minutes, I want to know about it! . . . . I need to fly higher. I didn't record how high I was flying, and attempts to beat my previous time flying at 11,000m all, um, ran out of fuel. I reckon a cruise at 15,000m or higher is the way to go, and then it's just figuring out the compromise between fuel burn to get up there and time spent getting to that altitude . . . . Constant climb, or go ballistic from a very high speed at low level? Longer you're at low level accelerating, the more fuel you burn. Constant climb the fuel burn's dropping off all the time, but you're climbing slower. Tricky. -

I did some Su25 pylon racing online once . . . . after a while all it is is everyone wrestling with the Mach buffet! Now, racing the Ka50 . . . . that should be a bit more fun. Grin. -

Mmmmn. Heard most of it before. Pilotasso, that rant on the F4 aerodynamics was quite informative, thanks :) Still want F4's environment and DC in Lomac, though. The perfect sim's always been one that combines elements of both . . . the sooner everyone realises that the better :P Black Shark's getting better, so I guess all we can really do is wait for the development to run it's course. Shrug. -

Hehehe . . . . I just burned 9500kg of fuel in 23 minutes :D Unfortunately, I overflew Sukhumi at 21 minutes at a speed of 2500km/h, so when I finally did land it was with no fuel, dead engines (not a major problem), and collapsed gear. But! Even so! I did it in 24 mins. Hit a max TAS in excess of 2500km/h, and I think the Machmeter in the Sukhoi was reading in excess of 2.6 at one point . . . . grin. With more careful flying and a better approach, reckon it can get down to 20. But not now, I'm going to bed. -

. . . . . bugger. Razdolnoye is the airbase that's sacrificed to give us Merzifon! Gimme the co-ordinates and I'll drop an aircraft on them at minimum speed . . . . . -
Hehehe - my answer would be "because it's fun" :P My interpretation of flying has always excluded anything to which you can apply the word "plummet" ;) Skydiving's most definitely on my list, BASE jumping would be better . . . . but even with a chute open it's not really flying. If someone can invent a way to stay up without wings, then I'll think about it - how far along are wingsuits getting now?

New territory in BS?
britgliderpilot replied to VMFA117_Poko's topic in Lock On: Flaming Cliffs 1 & 2
I have just one thing to say about that dam. Goldeneye. :D -
Thrust/weight doesn't especially matter if your aircraft is draggy like a wardrobe :P And isn't the 9G limit imposed on these aircraft for fatigue life purposes rather than stress or aerodynamic limitations? In terms of avionics, maintainability, cost, yadda yadda yadda . . . . the Super Airbrake's supposed to win hands down. Which is kind of useful. And let's face it . . . . an AESA/AIM-120D combo should kick arse just as hard while remaining cheap to run. Pure performance doesn't seem to be as big a consideration these days. It's unfortunate, but hey.

Depends on the aircraft. Yes, some aircraft jettison the canopy intact. STOVL aircraft have a big problem with that (no forward airspeed in the hover, the canopy will just sit there if you try and jettison it) - so the Harrier and JSF both have detcord in the canopy. Not so sure about the Hawk - perhaps the stepped up rear seat makes it more difficult to jettison the canopy without it clobbering the instructor? The single line on the French canopies is interesting. I'm not sure if it's actually detcord, looks like it'd split a line rather than smash a hole . . . . . Perhaps an aerial of some kind.

. . . . have you ever parked an AFM aircraft in one? ;) . . . . . or did you know that already? -
. . . . You can set up a mission goal without it being a target already. Is that what you mean?

Help with a new system for BS
britgliderpilot replied to uhoh7's topic in Lock On: Flaming Cliffs 1 & 2
For BS, system advice is the pretty much the same as any previous version of Lomac . . . . empty your bank account into a large sack, take it to your local PC components place, empty it onto the counter, and say "What can I get for this?" A 2.93GHz Core 2 Duo (forgotten the number now), 2Gb RAM, and a pair of 8800GTXs should see you in fairly good shape. Don't forget the 24" TFT, either. -
OT : where to find HD videos of jet fighters ?
britgliderpilot replied to paskozool's topic in Lock On: Flaming Cliffs 1 & 2
I'm not particularly up on HDTV, but as far as I understand it, all it is is TV at a higher resolution than normal. Wikipedia says 1080 is 1920x1080 resolution - which is rather a lot of pixels. You won't find that high a resolution on Youtube or Google video because it'd make the resulting video file enormous - as well as a high pixel count to display it you'd need some serious bandwidth to get the file in the first place ;) Youtube and Google take the video that comes in and compress it into Flash movies, which takes out even more detail. You're not going to find movies of that kind of resolution on the net. In fact since it's higher resolution than the PAL and NTSC formats that go onto DVD, I'm not sure there's been a call for digitising video to that level before HDTV came out . . . . would you have to re-record it from the original films? Now then - be honest - is this just an "I've got an HDTV!" showoff thread? ;) -
Current Beta test version
britgliderpilot replied to Weta43's topic in Lock On: Flaming Cliffs 1 & 2
Unfortunately for some, Black Shark WILL come with Starforce. If you have something against Starforce, that's just too bad . . . . . ED don't look like they're going to change their minds. -
They were always in the code - they were in there for Flanker 2.5. In Lomac they lay dormant - no 3D models supplied and not assigned to any countries in the MeInit, so by supplying a 3D model and a file tweak you could have both aircraft back again :) To insert an aircraft from scratch requires that the code be modified to allow it's presence, as well as to throw in some basic flight model data. This can be done *relatively* easily by the devs if a model is supplied, but it's still a bit of an effort. Remember that at present there's no neutral coalition, either - the civilian aircraft would still necessarily be treated as targets by any AI units. Isn't there a pic of some kind of civilian airliner floating around the 3D Modelling forum?

Ah, think I get you - the Tutor's now rolling around the centre of the A-10 . . . . which is slightly above the Tutor's fuselage? Not sure you can change that, think it's hardcoded . . . sorry.
-
If you've figured out the zero points of the aircraft 3D model, you can place the cockpit in the correct position relative to them. At least you could with the old cockpits, I assume it's the same for the the 3D versions. The file is Lomac\Config\View\server.lua - look for the cockpitlocalpoint variables. First value is X coordinate - along the longitudinal axis. Second value is Y coordinate - in the vertical axis, the one you want. Second is the Z coordinate - which actually you might need as well: the tutor's a side-by-side cockpit, isn't it?

Is F-15D trainer mod not compatible with FC ?
britgliderpilot replied to Majesco's topic in DCS Modding
It was made for v1.02, and since the dual-control code was removed for FC I didn't see much point in reworking it at that point :) It's an odd one you've got there - while the rear-seat mod put you behind the front seat, I don't remember it looking quite like that. Could be a clash with the Su27UB rear seat mod - if you install one after the other, the backup of the "original" file kept by Loman will be a modded file. Can't entirely explain it, but the answer is that it's only really compatible with the version it was made for - Lomac v1.02.
