All tests I've done were w/ 32k gw. The speedbrake directional control problem (if any happen) are not simulated yet. For all my recent tests the speedbrake was not used. It cuts down around 350 ~ 400' of ground roll. Now, here's the weird stuff... At Haifa, I'm able to stop in 3400' every time using only wheelbrakes w/ antiskid. The runway surface looks the same as any other concrete runway (asphalt?) The only visual difference I can see is the rubber laid on the surface from the tires, lol. I don't think DCS goes that deep into friction and types of runways.

I tested this in DCS in various conditions. On a dry concrete runway, standard day at sea level I get consistently 4070' ground roll. Using only brakes with antiskid. No pull on the stick. Speaking of horizontal stabs... I'm not sure if Hornets FCS works similar to Super's but I think the stabs should have some NU deflection till the jet slows to 70? Would have to ask or dig the info out somewhere. On the same runway, setting the pressure to 31.10 decreased the roll by around 50' The wet runway, 15C deg. and 28.35, the roll was 4920' I also tried a runway located at 5746' elev. Standard day, dry concrete. The roll was 4560' So... The results are roughly halfway between what 'nighthawk' came up with and Stermandriver's graph.

OK, repeated the test with no speedbrake on a runway at sea level, standard day. Stopped at 4100 feet. I'd say I can live with it.

Wow, even a small box with terrain like this would make A/G missions mind blowing.

Perhaps somewhere in the dark corners of the globe, hehe. I think you might be underestimating these 'guys' ... a little. Anyway, I find enough fun with whatever map ED throws at me... even if they flatten them up or distort them, lol.
-
You lost me there... I fight Chinese and Israelis over Syria for a day or 2... Then, I fight Turks and Syrians based out of Jordan. I fought everyone over NTTR... including Americans

One little question if I may (without going through all the troubleshooting quest): Does this crash happen in SP with net disconnected? I know someone that went through similar pain... his problem was resolved though after the complete re-install of OS. Well, re-image of 'clean' install after complete re-zero of drives and upload of bios.
-
No, we don't. Anyways, it would probably be no good in the pea soup at night, so... back to checklists
-
Offence?! are you kidding me? Casual chitchats like this are always good. Good for learning or re-learning. It would make sense to have a little light there... Do we have it in DCS? I guess I'll fire it up now just to check... be back.
-
No but I've been doing a lot of dead reckoning in DCS, especially on Syrian map. After flying in the same 'block' for days, I'd just follow the roads and hills, ravines w/o looking at HSI once. Occasionally glanced at SA if I heard a chirp or beeps.

What the heck are you guys discussing here? The geographical maps or specific campaigns.. with pre-set or actual historical scenarios?

You can stop struggling Now on a side note, in my previous post I mentioned the possibility of falling asleep... it happened to me recently, wearing a VR set on my head. I had about 120nm to go... I woke up when 'Atltitude' warning came on and had to turn around for an extra 60nm. If I had only used CPL A/P...
-
Agreed. What's wrong with 'resolving' issues on real maps, might even make some folks feel better... No need to discuss the outcome of these resolutions on the forums, lol. On the other hand... if there was some fictional island where all the global reset masters reside... hoowee!
-
Resetting the BIOS. Even an expert of my caliber would try it probably early on. Back up the current one of course. And the windows ver. ... what silverdevil said. OK, my expertise is exhausted, hehe.

Add possibility to be Boomer (for refueling)
maxTRX replied to Phil C6's topic in DCS Core Wish List
Since you mentioned JTAC/GCI/AWACS... definitely would change the game. The boom op. could probably be piggybacked to that module. I'm not sure what CA offers already. I can't use it anyway since I'm a VR freak. -
Yes, I know they do. It was just one of those idle thoughts making their way to my keyboard too quick And... of course it doesn't matter on the type of approach. In case 1 though, if your bypass switch was on 'field', you would most likely get a casual reminder from the boat. In case III, you wouldn't.

LOL, tier1 wearhouse ops... I'm actually not surprised. Lots of weird stuff is happening in some parts of the world yhese days. SFOD D, SEALs, raiders, combat controllers? How about some more peaceful environment where we can chat about usual, mundane stuff... Actually, in some online groups it is about chatting and socializing... oh well, could be fun too. If I was stuck with being a boom operator in a flight sim (nothing to do with RL folks) I'd just put it on auto (AI) and chat away... -
Yea, Another thing is, in RW or in DCS, people that do the full startup, pre-taxi and other checklists will lower the hook, open the refueling probe, etc. When the hook is lowered the bypass switch snaps to 'carrier' and stays there until it's flipped up manually to 'field'. (electrically held, if I remember correctly). So, on the boat there is no need to flip it back to field and if you forget to lower the hook on approach and drop the gear... the AOA indexer flashing is right in your face.
-
Well, another idle thought related to this. In case III approach: Do the AOA lights on nose gear blink, same as indexer next to HUD when the bypass switch is in carrier? I assume they do. Still, the bypass switch might be on 'field', hehe. Checklists, checklists...
-
Also, isn't one the LSO helpers supposed to watch the jets approaching the abeam position and check for gear and hook down?
-
Sure, the basic A/P modes are there for a reason. You never know when something comes up just before hitting the turn point and you have to fumble through some cards or type on the scratch pad, especially in a single seat fighter. Try not to fall asleep on those long hauls with the jet flying itself. Lots of coffee before T/O or... pills, whatever it takes.

I've just tested the brakes on a 3000' (roughly) runway at Haifa. 31k lbs. total weight to see if anything changed after the last update. (OP noticed some difference) I didn't notice any change between now and 3 months ago. I made a vid. at that time showing an impromptu overhead break to a full stop at Haifa. Right after touch down I 'double smacked' the throttles to make sure I was at ground idle, stood up on wheel brakes and extended the speedbrake. (I don't think possibility of directional control problem with speedbrakes is modeled yet). Aerobraking Hornets is not possible in current build. No wind condition. Dry runway. I was able to stop in little less then 3k ft. I'll try it again w/o any loadout and just 2k lbs. of gas. 31k lbs.: https://youtu.be/WzG700H0ZLs

Something for everyone. Switch flipping fanatics... let them have their switches, gamers or tactical folks... start on the runway. Realism freaks... follow the book from the time you get in the ready room. I haven't done a cold start in months then sooner or later I'll catch the NATOPS fever and keep it open on every DCS session, until... It's good to know though that most of the stuff is or will be modeled.

Yes, energized ball is much COOLER

No, that's not it... no aviator uses sissy nav modes However, these days...
