It only happens in A/G modes?

. I wish we had a target AOA display on HUD (low on the right side). Some lots of Super Hornets have them. It allows the pilot to set the desired AOA with the trim hat ahead of time and as the jet slows down, the bracket lines up, all the pilot has to do is maintain the glide path with the throttle.

I usually have to reserve an entire day after Curly posts... Hey ED, are we flying HARV? We need that 20% Ps now

AI instantly reacts to ARH missile launch
maxTRX replied to Arctic Fox's topic in Aircraft AI Bugs (Non-Combined Arms)
There are couple of things that could probably be changed easily. One of them is the way heavy bombers and transports react to an intercept. Every time I picked them up on radar heading directly toward me, they press on, without any consideration of not having fighter escort. I realize some defensive behavior can be set in ME like mission abort, still some basic types of reaction could be coded by default. Fighters armed with missiles have a good 'excuse' to head directly for you no matter what. Both, fighters and bombers will react to any missile shot immediately, even before R_max, as long as you have them designated in any mode, including TWS. Maddog shots are an exception. The missile has to go active to cause a reaction. In one test I had the heavy bomber (w/ AWACS support) flying toward the merge with me (in the Hornet) despite of me having an SST lock on him from 50 nm out till merge. Nothing intricate, just basic behavior by default. -
I scaled down the mission to just one Tu160, few minutes only from wpt 0 to wpt 1 at which point 2 missiles are launched. I stopped after few minutes after the launch to show oscillations. The missiles never reach the destination if the path is over hilly terrain or obstacles. The oscillations will make it hit something. The set up to launch was simple: 'Pinpoint strike' on a designated point on the map. Kh65.trk

I'll be back on 'flight line' in about an hour. I'll record the track... unless someone else beats me to it.

What in the name of? (Another Possible Aim-120/ARH missile bug)
maxTRX replied to DCS FIGHTER PILOT's topic in Weapon Bugs
I think ED models battery life 90 seconds, somewhere around that. Was the chase longer then that? -
Friday delivery, sounds good... ordered. Even if it's only a minor improvement, it's good to have a spare one.

That was a different issue nicknamed 'reverse ground effect' which I think has been addressed, although I made no attempts to find out for quite a while. OP is talking about exaggerated 'normal' ground effect that makes you float a little, not at 150 feet though.

I might still get it printed out but I'm definitely not throwing the original padding.

Inspired by this thread, I headed to base ops to get my flt plan and my IFR clearance was ready by the time I strapped in... It didn't include Harpoon deployment tho Yes, our SEA mode is superb: detects almost everything at 80nm through any weather, including submerged subs. I never complain about going over the specs and if/when ED decides to tweak it, they'd better not 'adjust' too much... only in the upward direction https://youtu.be/Vekemzn0b2U

ED really got serious modelling Amraam's battery life. I've shot one at a TU160, co-altitude, hot. My radar picked him up at around 70nm, switched to TWS, designated L&S and fired from R_aero knowing that the missile's battery will crap out before it reaches the target. TU160 started a defensive turn and dive just before the missile's battery ran out. Just before the battery went dead, the missile was trying to make the turn for the kill so the steering fins got stuck deflected and the missile kept turning toward me ... of course it was running out of steam and spiraled slowly toward the ground at little over 200 kts. Now, on a different note: The most annoying 'feature' of the radar currently is the AUTO center in TWS not centering correctly when the target is offset vertically (although adjusting elevation manually is still possible in AUTO). Pressing MAN and back to AUTO will recenter correctly. Another thing, when in TWS and tracking an L&S offset up or down from your jet's elevation. If you loose the track, the radar immediately switches to RWS with elevation centered. Switching to RWS is fine but the elevation reset is a bummer.

Nasty weapon against soft targets but it look pretty

reported earlier mk-20 and cbu99 not damaging any target or basically doing nothing
maxTRX replied to jppsx's topic in Weapon Bugs
My expectations might be too low but is this Mk20 Rockeye we're talking about here?... The only issue I had was VT setting. No matter what you set, the bomb bursts at 1200', which actually is pretty optimal if you ask me. I put them through the test here, on static targets. (I tested the movers few days ago and posted a vid on the Hornet's forum): -
Thanks, might try it
-
Just experiment with it for half an hour or so... the devs did what either SME's advised them or they advised themselves or things didn't quite work out the way they planned or... With every build of OB do a quick check in the area you're interested in. Adjust and get in the fight: this or that . or both. Some testers that post here do have info and 'influence' to correct things that need to be corrected. Lots of times, us... DCS pilots need to be corrected, in which case it would be nice to have some explanation from the horse's mouth.

Let us know how this gasket works out. So basically it brings the lenses a bit closer?

, I'm really starting to feel like all the stars lined up when I set my rig up 2 years ago. I haven't had a crash since... about 2 years ago? Well, lots of the stars (the whole galaxies) were not required to line up since I only play SP but I do feel lucky. The only quirk I have to deal with has to do with changing anti-aliasing going from VR to pancake to play tracks sometimes. If I don't restart DCS I might get some graphical 'weirdness'. But, I know how this works... As soon as I brag, s*** will start happening.

correct as is SEA Radar incredibly weak
maxTRX replied to SpaceEnthusiast's topic in Bugs and Problems
I haven't seen the track but it might be as simple as making sure your radar is looking at the ship. I can see on your picture that you're between 1800 and 2200 feet. How far was the ship at that time? Was it moving? If not, make sure it is. Climb a little. Btw, I locked a gunboat moving at 50 knots from 80 nm. I was at 30k. I wish A/A radar worked like this, hehe. -
Nice vid. Thanks for posting. Somehow I missed that one. My neck hurts without pulling G's in my VR but I do have some pieces of 'furniture' around me that I can grab for leverage when twisting my body around... then my ribs hurt, lol.

reported earlier PTRK with TPOD on moving targets
maxTRX replied to Vanguard's topic in DCS: F/A-18C
Some of it is already working decently, looking forward to full implementation. Well, the problem OP was having has been reported so that part is good. I recorded some of the tough situations I mentioned in the above post in case you wanted to see it. Depending on the angle of approach, the contrast varied a lot. In couple of attacks, the FLIR would not lock in spite of a clear picture. In other situations, the contrast was basically none. https://youtu.be/aoM2FTRQGcM -

maxTRX replied to Vanguard's topic in DCS: F/A-18C
Absolutely. On a slightly different note. In DCS the FLIR sees enough 'contrast' of the movers from quite a distance. At 15 nm or even 20 nm, when zoomed in, if we can tell there's enough contrast when looking at the objects and recognize what they are, so can FLIR . Wouldn't you think that if FLIR had an issue distinguishing sufficient contrast, so would we. As I was describing in my previous post, the FLIR was unable to grab a target until 3 nm, but the target's contrast was sharp and clear at 12 or further. This was in winter dusk condition with snow glare from the sun setting and in real life the visibility at ground level would not be great. This should be reflected in the FLIR. I have to admit that at some angle the FLIR picture of the target blended with the road and CCD produced a better contrast. That looked realistic... at that moment. -

So far I haven't seen much difference in performance between Litening and ATFLIR. I did couple of tests with Litening only so far, in different weather/season in Caucasus. First mission was set in January, 1700 local, 8 deg C. Nothing severe but there was some glare from the snow. The road was winding between trees with load of civilian traffic. I wasn't able to get a PTRK until 3nm. Both FLIR and CCD were seeing similar contrast. In summertime, 1700 local, 25 deg C, I was able to lock the same trucks at 8 nm. Note: When you want the GMT track to 'release' to FLIR, make sure you press TDC anywhere around the FLIR diamond once you switch sensor priority to FLIR. If you had your radar on one DDI and FLIR on the other, you'd see the track on the radar become a brick with a cross on it. If you don't do this and just slew around on your FLIR screen, your GMT track is maintained. Heck, once I get my PTRK, I press TDC on it... just to make sure . -
reported TWS auto antenna tilts below the targets
maxTRX replied to Rmnsvn's topic in Bugs and Problems
Yep, I noticed this right after the first 2.7 update. Also in a look down situation. TWS was in auto but the bandit was touching the upper edge of the elevation box on AZ/EL. I had to switch to MAN and bring the EL up.
