thanks i was wondering same when noticed last night and saw this being asked as soon as i jumped on today. is that designed to be that way IRL? i guess it's pretty rare they would be visiting the same mark point after landing and would just have a waypoint if they were going to be going back/forth.

if you enter the merge with altitude and speed you can defeat them doing loop after loop. nail them at bottom of turn and get the first guy quick then you've got a chance against the other 1-2. Yeah i'm same, i like messing with the ME. i found putting JTAC unit to paint targets is just a fun way to navigate from radials off of tacan stations to find a target and kill it without having to deal with manual bombing, then deal with whatever A2A i want to deal with using Triggers to activate them. I have gotten a couple sneaky A2A kills in multiplayer. just hang in the caucus valleys and hope somebody flies into the ambush. but more often than not everything going well when I suddenly explode. feels like the end of the Sopranos. I keep meaning to post a fun mission i've come up with, but I end up tweaking it a little bit everynight and then playing it to test and then forget to post.

so the reason i started thread this was just because of what I said. I love flying my F5. I started with the flaming cliffs F15C and went to the F18, spent months learning and constantly relearning systems. Still love the F18, but the point is, every once in awhile it's fun to jump in a much simpler bird and just fly the airplane. of course the F5 is going to be difficult playing multiplayer against Gen4 aircraft with advanced missiles and IFF. but you can have fun in single player of PvE. This was just one step above the F86 with some really raw heat seeking missiles, Vietnam era aircraft. The fact that it's so RAW is what I love about it. There's no autopilot, there's a trim switch. Trim it out and it'll fly straight and level. Reminds me of when my Dad showed me how to trim out his Cessna when I was a kid. was amazed it would fly straight with no hands on yoke. It doesn't take long to set up your missiles, rockets or bombs while you're flying anyway. Managing fuel isn't that hard once you get a feel for it You fly the airplane and look around instead of being buried managing systems the entire flight enjoy the scenery, play with the weather again this isn't anything 'against' the F18, (it's also a $30 module vs $55 for the F18 during the current halloween sale) it just depends what kind of mood I'm in I've been having fun putting myself in 1v2 even 1v3 vs mig19 and 21s against AI. at low skill level of course to offset their cheating, but if you manage your energy state you can beat them. Just getting a lock and firing isn't going to cut it, you have to work to get a good shot and be in a solid firing position, ideally with a target that is in a Low energy / G situation so your missiles can hit him. I've even tried going backwards from the 9P5s, and if you can get kills with the Aim 9s. The Gars are useless against fighters, but i think they were designed to be used against non maneuvering targets like bombers anyway. yes Air to ground is more difficult to drop bombs accurately, but it can be done with practice and patience and accepting you're gonna miss and have to try again. but set up your mission with a JTAC and LGB and you can certainly just drop bombs somewhere in the vicinity and fly away.

that's a cool tip thanks!

check me if i'm wrong, but have to set the waypoint altitude for what the altitude is at the surface, either in the ME or the HSI>DATA>UFC. if you set it at 0 and the waypoint is at 3200' it's going to be way off.....same as if you forget to correct the default of whatever it is 6500 ft or so it appears in the air somewhere over the target? you can reference in game on F10 map and hovering over the waypoint you wanna check.

Thanks for the heads up on the Multiplayer server, will try been trying to circle in Caucus valleys and ambush someone but keep eating missiles from F16's from about 300 miles away. I will post my very simple mission not easy to kick my 14 year old off the computer during Fortnite/Call of Duty marathons on the weekends cleaning it up and writing the mission briefing, playing with time of day for visual effects last night and before i knew it it was 3:30 am schoonights he gets booted at 10

It really is fun to just jump in a simple primitive airplane (compared to the F18.) and go for a ride set up a fun mission in Caucus to fly about 75 miles Navigate based on taking Radial off of Tacan meet up with a JTAC and drop some laser guided munitions on a couple of unsuspecting tanks in the valley killing those tanks triggers a couple Migs to scramble stay in the valley, use your sensors (Or Awacs) and you can pop up behind them that triggers a bomber to take off pick off with your guns on your way home. Just a fun way to fly a mission and enjoy without massive workload managing so many different complicated systems. took me awhile to learn how to land the thing, just gotta learn how to trim and maintain turn at low speed and make sure downwind is far enough parallel of runway

Not Authorized to Land
johnmjones1975 replied to Frankthetank's topic in DCS World Tutorial & Help Requests
i started having this problem too after the most recent update and i do own the supercarrier module. happened on a training mission i fly almost every time i play. -
https://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=266079&highlight=mklink works great.i've had nevada on there. you'll notice takes an extra few seconds to load the first time but then it's fine.

i don't know, mine seem to work fairly good but it takes a little trial and error one thing i've found works good is if I lock an incoming target and then give command that is something like wingman 2>engage>engage my target Unlock then lock another target wingman 3>engage>engage my target then I use TWS mode to engage whatever is left for some reason I never seem able to call "wingman 4" I assume it's because Wingman 3 is his section leader? I just figured out you can give them the command "engage ground targets" when you're in the area and they'll do a pretty good job or you can assign them to attack a group when they reach a certain waypoint if the AI you're talking about aren't in your group you can assign them to attack a target through the advance waypoint editor that starts getting into what type of mission you assign them (Sead, CAP, CAS etc;)

Should have mentioned that I tried the cleanup repair method before original post it didn't do anything. ended up deleting and reinstalling the open Beta now waiting for it to finish downloading modules I've purchased.
-
tried to do a repair but ran out of hard drive space and was in no mans land. Did a complete uninstall/reinstall at somewhere around 2.8 MB/s right now waiting for a bunch of planes and Persian Gulf and Nevada maps to re download.

Thank you in advance, i'm not sure why i couldn't add the .log as an attachment, so I'm going to paste it. if there's a better way, please let me know. I did a DCS Repair last night before going to bed, and it reverted back to the Release, but it didn't fix my module problem. only difference is that now Normandy map doesn't appear in Module Manager anymore. Below the log are screenshots showing that the module Manager says I have so problems are No F5 to fly, or the 2 Helicopters it says I have. and I don't have my Nevada map (purchased) or Normandy (Trial) Thank you again ------------------------- === Log opened UTC 2020-04-29 15:39:38 2020-04-29 15:39:38.495 INFO DCS: Command line: "C:\Program Files\Eagle Dynamics\DCS World\bin/DCS.exe" 2020-04-29 15:39:38.495 INFO DCS: DCS/2.5.5.41371 (x86_64; Windows NT 10.0.18363) 2020-04-29 15:39:38.519 INFO DCS: Hwid: 3ZK8-7pcLndtoIZD3OvKXD-0PvFm30v1s7NEKQ 2020-04-29 15:39:38.519 INFO DCS: DCS revision: 161370 2020-04-29 15:39:38.519 INFO DCS: Renderer revision: 19709 2020-04-29 15:39:38.519 INFO DCS: Terrain revision: 19859 2020-04-29 15:39:38.519 INFO DCS: CPU cores: 8, threads: 16, System RAM: 16320 MB, Pagefile: 20376 MB 2020-04-29 15:39:38.549 INFO EDCORE: (dDispatcher)enterToState_:0 2020-04-29 15:39:38.563 INFO Dispatcher: 2020/4/29 11:39 V1803061700 2020-04-29 15:39:38.582 INFO INPUT: Device [Keyboard] created deviceId = -1 2020-04-29 15:39:38.596 INFO INPUT: Device [Logitech Extreme 3D {F2D635C0-26F1-11ea-8001-444553540000}] created deviceId = -1 2020-04-29 15:39:38.596 INFO INPUT: Joystick created[Logitech Extreme 3D {F2D635C0-26F1-11ea-8001-444553540000}], ForceFeedBack: no 2020-04-29 15:39:38.632 INFO INPUT: Device [Mouse] created deviceId = -1 2020-04-29 15:39:38.634 INFO INPUT: Device [TrackIR] created deviceId = -1 2020-04-29 15:39:38.654 INFO SOUND: Using driver: xaudio29 2020-04-29 15:39:38.671 INFO SOUND: Found 4 available audio device(s): 2020-04-29 15:39:38.671 INFO SOUND: 0: ID: "\\?\SWD#MMDEVAPI#{0.0.0.00000000}.{e5d6be83-7fd6-4b84-8515-ab0238aecc24}#{e6327cad-dcec-4949-ae8a-991e976a79d2}", Name: "Speakers (Razer Kraken X USB)" 2020-04-29 15:39:38.671 INFO SOUND: 1: ID: "\\?\SWD#MMDEVAPI#{0.0.0.00000000}.{85eaa9b9-26d1-4445-9fe7-780281884db1}#{e6327cad-dcec-4949-ae8a-991e976a79d2}", Name: "Realtek Digital Output (Realtek® Audio)" 2020-04-29 15:39:38.671 INFO SOUND: 2: ID: "\\?\SWD#MMDEVAPI#{0.0.0.00000000}.{4779440a-7b30-42a4-93e1-d74cb604b8bf}#{e6327cad-dcec-4949-ae8a-991e976a79d2}", Name: "Speakers (7.1 Surround Sound)" 2020-04-29 15:39:38.671 INFO SOUND: 3: ID: "\\?\SWD#MMDEVAPI#{0.0.0.00000000}.{f29629a7-56db-4e4c-9cb9-fe0a84a56fc2}#{e6327cad-dcec-4949-ae8a-991e976a79d2}", Name: "C27F591 (NVIDIA High Definition Audio)" 2020-04-29 15:39:39.163 INFO SOUND: loaded 1578 sdefs from "sounds\sdef" 2020-04-29 15:39:39.163 INFO SOUNDER: Preloading Sounders from Sounds\Sounders 2020-04-29 15:39:39.253 INFO Dispatcher: InitLow 2020-04-29 15:39:46.694 INFO NET: Login success. 2020-04-29 15:39:47.429 INFO NET: Got auth data. 2020-04-29 15:39:47.835 INFO DCS: Successfully got authorization data. 2020-04-29 15:39:47.839 INFO Dispatcher: Loading installed modules... 2020-04-29 15:39:48.068 ALERT SECURITYCONTROL: Manifest 'mods/aircraft/f-5e/dcs_manifest.x86_64' is from a different build. 2020-04-29 15:39:48.120 ERROR SECURITYCONTROL: Failed to parse manifest: mods/aircraft/spitfirelfmkix/dcs_manifest.x86_64 2020-04-29 15:39:48.702 ERROR SECURITYCONTROL: Failed to parse manifest: mods/terrains/nevada/dcs_manifest.x86_64 2020-04-29 15:39:49.424 INFO Scripting: OBSOLETE mount_vfs_sound_path() used in ./CoreMods/aircraft/AJS37/entry.lua 2020-04-29 15:39:49.547 ALERT Scripting: loadfile: can't open './Mods/aircraft/SpitfireLFMkIX/views.lua' 2020-04-29 15:39:49.848 INFO Scripting: OBSOLETE mount_vfs_sound_path() used in C:\Users\pat54\Saved Games\DCS\Mods/aircraft/f-22a/entry.lua 2020-04-29 15:39:49.857 INFO Scripting: PLUGINS START------------------------------------------------- 2020-04-29 15:39:49.895 INFO SOUNDER: Preloading Sounders from .\CoreMods\tech\TechWeaponPack\Sounds\Sounders 2020-04-29 15:39:49.933 INFO SOUNDER: Preloading Sounders from .\CoreMods\tech\USS John C Stennis\Sounds\Sounders 2020-04-29 15:39:49.949 INFO SOUND: loaded 26 sdefs from ".\coremods\aircraft\ajs37\sounds\sdef" 2020-04-29 15:39:49.981 INFO SOUND: loaded 15 sdefs from ".\coremods\aircraft\av8bna\sounds\sdef" 2020-04-29 15:39:49.981 INFO SOUNDER: Preloading Sounders from .\CoreMods\aircraft\AV8BNA\Sounds\Sounders 2020-04-29 15:39:49.989 WARNING EDCORE: Source ./CoreMods/aircraft/AV8BNA/Shapes is already mounted to the same mount /models/. 2020-04-29 15:39:50.028 INFO SOUND: loaded 11 sdefs from ".\coremods\aircraft\c-101\sounds\sdef" 2020-04-29 15:39:50.055 WARNING EDCORE: Source ./CoreMods/aircraft/C-101/Liveries is already mounted to the same mount /textures//liveries/. 2020-04-29 15:39:50.067 INFO SOUND: loaded 28 sdefs from ".\coremods\aircraft\chinaassetpack\sounds\sdef" 2020-04-29 15:39:50.067 INFO SOUNDER: Preloading Sounders from .\CoreMods\aircraft\ChinaAssetPack\Sounds\Sounders 2020-04-29 15:39:50.168 INFO SOUND: loaded 5 sdefs from ".\coremods\aircraft\christen eagle ii\sounds\sdef" 2020-04-29 15:39:50.193 ERROR EDCORE: Can't mount coremods/aircraft/christen eagle ii/textures2. been having fun with the free trials thank you ED Switched to Open Beta and some weird things happened --2 of my maps Nevada (which I own) Normandy (which is on trial) and --F5 Disappeared! Poof! What is odd is that they all show as installed modules when I load the game and check the Modules / Installed page. the 2 maps are maps that I have installed on a USB Drive and have a Hardlink from DCS folder on C: to, so I get that those sometimes can act a little odd. in the past when I've updated or switched back and forth between OB and release i've had to delete and recreate the Hardlink but now I got Nuttin'!!! tried downloading a couple Helos today to try out, they too show as installed modules, but aren't flyable when I go into Mission Editor. Same with F5, I have an F5 mission that won't load because it says I don't have the module that it says I have...... any ideas?

My original intent with this was simply to try and help people that struggle like I did with AAR. I found it useful, hopefully it helps someone. I did some digging and Wags addressed what this is and how to use it years ago https://forums.eagle.ru/showpost.php?p=3241993&postcount=28

that was a really good vid So pretty cool result from this chat was I decided to adjust "seat height" to align the crosses on the HUD glass as suggested to see what it did. I did so by adjusting the Y setting in Opentrack, centering the crosses and seeing what the Raw Input was showing it needed to be and making the adjustment in Opentrack Options, for me I had to adjust the offset up 8 cm from what the standard "center" view is Never tried moving the seat up before. Makes a huge difference in field of vision not only for AAR but general game play as well guess I'm used to flying like I'm in a low rider with the seats laid back I know there's a seat height adjustment lever but I also think it needs to be adjusted and saved each time you start, haven't tried it. easy to set through track IR

i'm not saying it's the designed purpose, but it seems to make it really easy. I really can't remember where I saw a video with a pilot explaining it was many years before I even heard of DCS, so when I got in the F18 I assumed that's what it was for.

Here's what I'm talking about it's not perfect, call it stage fright but it shows what i'm talking about I shift over at about :59 seconds when I think i have it and screw it up a little but recover Is it a "coincidence" the gun backup site and the probe just happen to line up? Also, don't forget to turn your youtube setting up as they're throttling the quality back When I checked it after posting I freaked for a second trying to figure out why it looked like dirt.

I only play the last stable release. Not the Beta. Hoping the Beta becomes the stable release at some point soon. Mainly because I want the TPOD updates to slave to waypoint. I haven't really put the time in to figure out how I'd want to set up the beta install (yet) Limited space on my HD I share with a 14 year old with his fortnite and call of duty all eating space off topic but: Probably either going to install beta to external USB drive or I put my "Nevada" map on the USB drive with a MKLINK pointing towards it works great, but takes a little while longer to load the first time probably going to move Caucus map to usb and install beta to c: with everyone home, i get limited time to play!

It actually helped me with the orbiting tankers more than the straight ones because it got me flying everything in the same plane relative to the tanker I think the straight ones you can get away with a lot easier. definitely helped me 'get the feel' of what needs to be done to approach easier.

So I haven't seen anyone mention this on any forum here but has anyone tried using the "HUD Reticle" to align yourself for AAR? It makes it SOOOOO much easier I'm not sure when but I remember seeing a video years ago (which I can't find now) not a DCS video Discussing AAR and a pilot said all you have to do is line up the crosshairs on that reticle with the basket and literally fly right into it I'm using Track IR and really struggled with AAR until I tried this just move over and align the two reticles and put the bullseye right on the basket They even look like the basket when they are aligned Magically, everything lines up Even the Hose becomes perfectly vertical and you just fly right into it I usually shift back to center when i'm a few feet away from capturing and everything is lined up and start concentrating on the engine. It's helpful at night because it even puts the "light" right on the basket so you know you're in the right plane. I'll try to post a video later but for now, I've got my wife working from home, a 14 year old using the gaming computer for schoolwork (and fortnite), and the 17 year old doing schoolwork in there. "Honey can i get in there so i can make a video about air to air refueling?" would probably get me stabbed in the eyes right about now...... hope everyone is doing well and safe

use Mklink /j to move my maps to USB drive

THANK YOU!!! I knew it was something stupid like that!!! I was being a bit too literal in all the videos where the string ended in "LINK" and I was not realizing that was what was supposed to say "Nevada". also, I did not know I had to delete the original folder Once you explained it, I got it. it worked perfectly, I now have plenty of space left on my C: drive The link you're creating is the folder itself so when the game points itself to that folder, its directed to the USB drive that was the 'link' in the chain I was not comprehending the million dollar question is was it worth it well the first time I loaded the map it did seem to take a little while longer than usual I then went in a second, third and fourth time and it was noticeably quicker and back to normal Jumped into another map just to clear things out When i went back into Nevada it was a normal load time Thank you very much for the help now i'm gonna go bomb stuff awhile. -
use Mklink /j to move my maps to USB drive

Thank you for the reply, My saved games folder is <1gb so that's not a problem it's the almost 90gb of maps! so I have been succesful in creating a link that does what i think it should do there is a link that any file or folder dropped in it does appear on my D: drive (USB) Where i seem to stand now is DCS no longer sees my Nevada maps Nevada is not offered as an option in the game It does not appear in the Module Manager to re download it doesnt appear as an option in mission editor and the missions I have created don't appear I'm going to do something really silly and restart the machine. nope that didn't work either.... I'm thinking I have something slightly off someplace that someone in this community has dealt with before. -
I share a gaming computer with my son. 500Gb HDD got eaten up by DCS/ Call of Duty/ and Fortnite I have an empty 4TB drive on a usb 3.0 connection. I am new here and see this topic has been discussed I did search the forums but did not see the specific question answered. I think I'm close but need a little guidance as I'm not understanding something in the logic of where the link has to actually be to get this to work properly Using the Mklink /j command I created a hardlink at C:\Program Files\Eagle Dynamics\DCS World\Mods\terrains which links to my usb drive d:\DCS I then dragged and dropped the "Nevada" folder into the "LINK" folder which is INSIDE terrain so C:\Program Files\Eagle Dynamics\DCS World\Mods\Terrains\Link I can see that there is now a Nevada folder inside my d:\DCS folder that is 33gb. So the link is working when I fired up the game, my Nevada map is nowhere to be found. I have a feeling that I'm one directory off in one direction? I've also tried making a link inside the C:\program-------\nevada folder itself and then dropping all the files from the Nevada file in the link I see all of the files on the external USB but the game still does not give me the nevada map Figured it wouldn't hurt to ask for a little help (coincidentally, I noticed that while my USB drive ihas 33gb in it. My C: drive only picked up 22gb in space?) i wanted to establish that I knew how to do this with just one map, and see how long it actually took to load before I screwed up my install moving them all and I can't play tonight when he goes to bed!!! Believe I could always re-download the map from Mods menu, but trying to see if I can figure this out and save us the space. The transfer rate on the connection are not lower than 60MB/s and usually up around 100mMB/s so I don't think it will take that long to load maps, and might even be where the "Preload Radius" setting could come into play? I saw some other posts that were incomplete or just simply say "use mkdir /j" but I'm not that familiar with it, and need a little help i'm assuming when you try to load a mission, the game looks and sees the map = nevada then goes to the "terrains" folder looking for a Nevada folder, then extracts what it wants from there I don't understand where the link needs to be placed and what gets dropped into it to move the files AND allow the game to see it make sense? any help greatly appreciated.
