Why does Jester give bad info and then correct himself?
key_stroked replied to key_stroked's topic in DCS: F-14A & B
Not while doing RIO for another player. I'm reading off the display. It's 3 numbers at most, and I'm not even trained by the Navy. The frequency and volume of mistakes that Jester makes ruins the F-14 experience a bit for me. -
Wire not releasing on carrier on Caucasus Map
key_stroked replied to Raven1606688515's topic in Bugs and Problems
If you're using afterburner on the trap it should snap you back like a rubber band, and the tension comes off the wire so you can retract the hook. The only times I got stuck is when I didn't go into AB and I kept the tension on the jet. In those cases, I just lit the cans for a second or two and got the snap back, and the cable dropped. If you're still having issues, then I'd recommend a repair/reinstall. -
Why does Jester give bad info and then correct himself?
key_stroked posted a topic in DCS: F-14A & B
Was this an attempt to make him seem more human? I was in TWS Auto, and he hooked a track that was 135nm away, which I could clearly see in the TID repeater. When he called it out though, he said, "bandit, 350, 175 miles....no, scratch that, 135 miles". Doesn't seem realistic that a trained RIO would misread a clearly labeled contact range on the instruments by 40 miles, which is a huge margin of error. Can we get an option in the settings to turn this "random error" feature off? I want a simulated RIO that gives me the correct info all the time, especially if it's staring him right in the face. -
I know that the Tape Player has a max of 10 music files. I backed up the default tracks, made 10 of my own in .ogg format, and put them in the same location. When I get in the pit and hit play, I hear the click but no music. If I delete my custom tracks and put the default tracks back in and click play in the sim, I hear the music. What am I doing wrong? Here's what my folder looks like.

Is the Tomcat finally getting an update tomorrow?
key_stroked replied to key_stroked's topic in DCS: F-14A & B
It's been documented and acknowledged by Heatblur. -
Is the Tomcat finally getting an update tomorrow?
key_stroked replied to key_stroked's topic in DCS: F-14A & B
Serious question: why should a 3rd party company who's product I don't even own hold up the update for the product I do own? This is really silly. -
Been over a month since the last one. I've almost stopped flying it completely because I just can't stand the under performing engine issues. I wish Heatblur could just publish their own hot fix so we don't have to always wait for ED's schedule.

I'm interested to know why you think Jester is OP? Care to give any reasons?

Is the F-14 moving to monthly patches like the F-18?
key_stroked replied to key_stroked's topic in DCS: F-14A & B
Will it do better in the vertical post-patch? -
Until he gets the ability, this workaround shouldn't be removed.

CTD in single player while using PAL and launching an AIM-54 in boresight mode (ACM cover open).

I think he serves a great purpose in keeping the jet from crashing on flat ground when you want to practice as a RIO against training targets in a controlled environment. I wouldn't ever expect to be a single player RIO and actually complete combat missions or campaigns. Just don't fly near mountains. :)

Rgr, that's what I figured. I guess the fact that AI wingmen can avoid terrain is completely different from Iceman avoiding terrain.

MSL PREP versus SW COOL switches (center panel)
key_stroked replied to key_stroked's topic in DCS: F-14A & B
Thanks for the replies. I'm going to include MSL PREP in my preflight unless it's somehow harmful to something in the jet. Saves me a button my throttle. -
Unsure if this is a bug or intended behavior.
-
From what I understand, the SW COOL switch will start the process of cooling down the sidewinder seeker head. I also have heard/read that the coolant is finite and can run out, so the switch should be off when not in combat. What I want to know is: - is the coolant actually modeled and can it really run out? - does MSL PREP also have a similar finite resource that needs to be preserved? If MSL PREP only attaches the linkages and programs the missiles for use, is it something I can switch on during my startup procedure and then forget about? Or for some reason should I also be switching off MSL PREP when I'm not in any immediate danger? The Heatblur manual doesn't really explain this, and I couldn't find anything specific in NATOPS.

Thanks for responding. Guess we can only wait for ED to do something about it.

I play multiplayer, and that won't pass integrity checks. -
How do I make Jester to lock another aircraft?

Can someone from Heatblur acknowledge this issue?
