  1. Singleplayer is fine, but multiplayer is a nightmare. I tried Hoggit's Persian Gulf at War server with only 3 other people on it tonight, and my memory was maxed out in the performance manager. Frames were 35-40 on average, but loading anything (like turning my head in TrackIR to look behind me) caused huge freezes and stutters. To help with stutters, I've tried setting up a page file on my SSD for 32000 MB. I've also set the autoexec.cfg affinity_mask to use cores 2 and 3 (out of 0,1,2,3) to free up windows based on this thread (https://forums.eagle.ru/showpost.php?p=1959076&postcount=1). I've also turned Hyperthreading off in my BIOS. I'm running DCS on a single screen using fullscreen, with these settings: I don't know what else to do. The freezes and stutters are so bad it makes my MP experience just plain unenjoyable. Any other ideas? P.S. I had DCS alt-tabbed out at the main menu while writing this whole post. When I finished, I checked my resource manager again and the memory was still at 99%. Does DCS really need all 16GB of my RAM just sitting at the main menu? That doesn't seem right.
  2. Because the animation of Jester holding the handle is automatic and can't be manually controlled, so the picture shows the hand by moving the camera back into the RIO pit from the external view.
  3. If you want to resort to red herring argument tactics, go ahead. My stance is clear, and it has absolutely nothing to do with you or your argument.
  4. I rest my case. This kind of mentality is why you're getting so much flak. You basically just said "my way is the only way of looking at this. The rest of you are wrong". You need to broaden your horizons a bit and stop trying to shut down opinions that differ from yours.
  5. Last patch there were changes but the notes didn't document them. I wonder if today's patch also has hidden changes.
  6. Completely agree. And to add to this, (directed at the thread) don't tell others what's realistic and what's not, like you're preaching gospel or facts from an encyclopedia. Speak for yourself, and don't say the entire sim should be modeled after what YOU like. It should cater to everyone. If all options are available, you have the power to ignore it and play how you want. If everything is restricted how you want it, it leaves no options for those that don't want to play like you do. Stop being so close minded.
  7. No, the point of DCS for me is to have fun. That's what I use it for. Please don't speak for everyone when you claim what the point of using DCS is. Your experience doesn't equal everyone elses' experiences. This is a HORRIBLE thing to tell a customer that just bought your product. You, and others in the thread that think like you, just don't get the concept of real life vs a video game. Thankfully you and others saying the same thing aren't in charge of anything regarding the F-14, because if you were I wouldn't be buying anything from you. Everyone shouldn't have to play exactly the way you think they should be playing.
  8. With Jester you also have 6 F-14s that can drop bombs.....literally no difference between Jester or you directly controlling the LANTIRN. I really don't get what the big hangup is on Jester just being an extra bridge to you and the LANTIRN controls. If I tell Jester to tune a TACAN channel....it's instant. A sound file plays that says "roger" or whatever, but it happens instantly. You can't miscommunicate with Jester. It's a user interface. You select something from the wheel and that thing happens. How exactly do you talk on with Jester? You can't. I don't even know how you can assume the level of detail Heatblur will put into Jester's LANTIRN manipulation. How do you tell Jester to target the white house in a town on the NW corner? Or the 3rd BTR-80 from the right? All of your arguments are assuming the player has a real human RIO ready and waiting to hop in their jet. As you yourself admitted, that's not always possible, so the backup is a not-so-perfect AI called Jester, who CANNOT do things a human can do. The LANTIRN mod provides a workaround for his shortfalls. Jester can't do everything. You should be happy that players want this mod, because by giving more for the pilot to do, it degrades his situational awareness and gives YOU an advantage. But you're going on and on like its a cheat code and the F-14 somehow has an unfair advantage over you in multiplayer. So far I haven't heard a single good reason why it should be disallowed at all.
  9. I think they said they wouldn't touch .lua control until they included the Jester commands for the LANTIRN. Even then...I don't see how they're going to restrict usage of a .lua file, and I don't see why they should. I only know a handful of guys that know how to do RIO, and they're not online 24/7. I don't want some random dude in my backseat on an MP server who may or may not communicate with me or know how to perform the RIO role. The notion that just because the jet is a 2 seater means I can only fly it and use all its functionality with either a live human or a restrictive AI interface is what's really silly. Heatblur should accomodate all styles of play, from the hardcore realism types to those that just want to enjoy the F-14 solo.
  10. The first thing you wrote was for me, and yet you wish Heatblur would change the entire product so that it only suits your needs and doesn't accommodate anyone else's playstyle or preferences. That's selfish. If you don't like Jester because he's "not realistic"....then don't use him. That doesn't mean other people can't enjoy playing the module with Jester, or without him. Asking for the entire Jester functionality to be removed just because you don't care for it is pretty arrogant. How exactly is me moving a LANTIRN pod with a hatswitch "affecting you" in multiplayer while you're in a completely different jet? How does increasing the workload for a solo F-14 player somehow make it harder for you to enjoy your sim? Yes, workarounds do have a place in a sim, because it is a sim, and not a real jet. You very conveniently dismiss the compromises that have to be made to bridge the gap between what's real and what computer software can actually do, which is the difference between functionality and your precious realism. The fact is me using the LANTIRN with or without Jester is exactly the same thing. I'm using an interface that Heatblur wrote into the module to manipulate the representation of something else. Whether I tell Jester to do it (pressing a button) or I do it (pressing a button), it is the same thing. And whether or not I do it or a computer AI does it, it's still getting done, and that does not affect you in terms of MP balance in any way, shape, or form while you're flying some other jet. If anything, it affects ME more, because I have an increased workload.
  11. Why? It increases the pilot's workload, which makes it harder for a solo pilot. If someone wants to do that, why prohibit it?
  12. Why does a line need to be drawn? The "realism" argument needs to stop. There is nothing realistic about me sitting in an office chair and staring at a 2D screen while flying a digital F-14. In fact, there is an entire list of things that aren't "realistic" in Heatblur's F-14 right now: - I can use a magic camera to look outside my jet - I have a computer program taking over my backseat - If I crash my jet, I can just respawn and get another one - I also can't die if I crash, I just come back - I can refuel and rearm the jet while the engines are still running - I can do this even if I crash in the middle of the grass on an airfield somewhere - A ground crew can repair my jet in just a couple of minutes, even if I'm missing an entire wing So please...let's not talk about how it's "unrealistic" to let a pilot that has no human RIO precise control over using the LANTIRN pod, unless you can guarantee me that you personally can code a Jester program that will EXACTLY mimic human behavior and never perform unintended behavior. There is a line between realism and functionality + fun. I would rather have a functional and fun LANTIRN pod that I can use how I like, rather then being limited to an AI that has its own limitations in the name of "realism".
  13. The Tomcat slides really bad when the carrier starts turning.
  14. Another crash. PGAW. Wasn't even using a radar mode or shooting at anyone when the crash happened. This is what the dcs.log said. The crash happened at 20:14. I included an additional 8 minutes of log before it: Here's what windows event viewer said for the Application Error: Here is the Windows Error Reporting:
  15. Crashed tonight on Hoggit's GAW. Used PAL to fire an AIM-54 at an AI SU-25. No log generated and ED's crash tool didn't pop up either. Heatblur, what's going on with this?
  16. Deleting autoexec.cfg also fixed the communications menu for me. I also noticed that before I deleted that file, selecting ANY quickstart mission would start the mission paused/frozen. I had to either hit escape or the pause/break key on my keyboard twice to unfreeze the mission. After deleting autoexec.cfg, I now get the proper "debrief" screen with the fly button in the bottom right. What's weird is that autoexec.cfg only had an affinity mask line in it, which is used for selecting specific cores to run a program on. Really strange that would disable in-game GUI menus, such as communication and the pre-flight briefing windows.
  17. I've seen the same thing, and can also confirm they're not missiles.
  18. The reason for the delay isn't the point, NineLine. The point is if Heatblur has a fix ready, I can't get access to it because they have to wait on you. I don't like your patching system. You think that villainizes ED? My point is you made it sound like other projects weren't delaying development of the F-18, but according to Wags the development of the A-8 did pull the testing team off testing the JSOW. Are you saying that testing the module isn't part of the development of it?
  19. My issue is Heatblur can't patch the F-14 on their own. They have to wait for ED's master patch, which means the fixes for the Tomcat's flight model have been on ice for 2 months now and are still being held hostage. Every time the OB patch gets pushed, every developer that has a working fix ready to go for their own product gets their fix pushed as well.
  20. But it does have something to do with the Fw-190 development? https://forums.eagle.ru/showpost.php?p=3934656&postcount=158
  21. Why is it every time someone wants to discuss a feature of a product they own, they're branded a "complainer"? Am I not allowed to talk about things on the aircraft I wish were changed or different? Did you see me typing in all caps and lacing my OP with profanity? It's no wonder people go to 3rd party websites like Hoggit to discuss stuff, because people on here will attack every aspect of what you write. You say it's an all-time low. I say it's feedback to make the product better.
  22. You're suggesting that Jester correctly calling out a range that I can see anyway will make him supernatural and upset the multiplayer balance? That is absolutely absurd. Lol. I'm actually laughing out loud from that.
  23. What does normalize audio do? Did you try converting without that box checked?
  24. I never called it a bug, and I disagree that it adds immersion. Swapping around two numbers is something I could believe, but not what Jester currently does. The error feels too artificial. I also don't think that correctly calling out ranges turns Jester into an "unnatural super AI". Anyway, I suggested they give us the option to turn it off, so people can choose the realism setting they want.
