Pave Penny is a receiver only and gets no other info than the location of the target. The PP system has nothing to do with guideing any type of weapon to the target. You can use the PP marker in the HUD to slew the TDB over the target and desinate it but, then you are right back into the stadard CCRP mode like we've talked about before.
-
For static targets the altiude can be imputed by the pilots using maps (like GGTharos said) or can be downloaded from GPS data. Moving targets with changing terrain are the ones that can cause problem with CCRP mode, they handle this by changing to a different mode like CCIP.
-
GCAS is a fuction of AOA, airspeed, and altitude, all of these change from second to second so the "slice" of radar altimeter used for this fuction also changes second to second.
-
Vati, not use I understand what you're asking?
-
If I understand your question then the answer would be yes, it doesn't correct for "enviromental factors".
-
Hotray, thanks I still drop by every-once-in-a-while to see what's going on. Vati, when you slew the TDB over the target and "lock-on" flight data such as AOA and slang-range (angle of the TDB V the TDB) are used by the IFFCC computer to know which "sector" of the radar altimeter data to use for it's CCRP comps.
-
Not true, LASTE doestn't "aim" the radar altimeters but uses "slices" of it's data for CCRP, the radar altimeter still works for other system in this mode.
-
The A-10 uses RADAR altemiter data for both CCIP and CCRP modes.

Hi Blaze, I did retire last year (one year on the 1st of Aug) and have been working as a contractor in the A-10 SPO helping turn the A-10A into the A-10C. My contract is up in Sept and I may be moving to a new job and airframe. I haven't had much time for sims lately but was wondering if there was still members of the community flying the A-10 in LOMAC or had it gone the way of the T-Rex. I guess it's time to fire-up LOMAC again and rootin' around in the hawg. Well thanks for the replys and yall' have a nice 4th of July.
-
Just dropping by to see if there are people still flying the A-10 in LOMAC after the FC releace?
-
Mike you mean like this.... http://www.warthogpen.com/bs/pod2.wmv

Mbot, there a couple of features in the real aircraft not modeled in LOMAC because LOMAC modeled a LASTE 4.0 A-10 and not the current 6.0 version. To answer your questions in a 4.0 aircraft, moving targets were taken care of by ajusting fire. One pilot put it this way, "The GAU-8 is like a water hose, you start spraying and ajust aim as needed!" In LASTE 6.0 you have "lead tics" in the pipper which give you "lead" for 1/2 and 1 mile slant ranges based on data from the LASTE computer. As far as hilly terrain you either get close as you said or, use the "bore-site cross" (small cross which is always in the HUD) to aim and forget the CCIP pipper. In 6.0 there are newer "algirethems" (S?) which help with this and also something called PAC which engages the SAS system to lock the gun on target. Sorry that's as far as I can go into both these questions and the "current" fix to them.

Sorry to ask this but i have very limited understanding.

You're welcome Mizzy. I lurk around a number of sim forums but post very little. BTW family is doing well thanks for asking. :D -

Back at ya dude.....better dead than..... -
There will be some A-10 footage in this one along with the F-15s/F-16s and other aircraft. Installing an IMax camera on the A-10 was one of my last projects before retiring from the US Air Force.... http://www.af.mil/news/story.asp?storyID=123009273 http://www.fighterpilotfilm.com/

A-10's GAU-8 is inefficient against any main battle tank
Dice replied to Mayh3M's topic in Lock On: Flaming Cliffs 1 & 2
Shepski, if I can get my computer fixed this weekend (having auto run issues) I will "rip" more of the DVD and send you the whole section in high rez mpeg format...about 15 mins worth, or if you send me a snail-mail addy I will send you a DVD by mail. Hogpen13@aol.com I'm out of this one because it's a no win. I've been told I'm "far away from tanks" which I take to mean I know nothing about them, from a person who is "far away from the A-10 and the GAU-8A" and knows little to nothing about them. I will go back to being a lurker now..... 8) -
A-10's GAU-8 is inefficient against any main battle tank
Dice replied to Mayh3M's topic in Lock On: Flaming Cliffs 1 & 2
But we are asked (by you) to conclude from a 1979 report which consisted of ... "In this test an A-10 aircraft attacked two combat-loaded individual Soviet T-62 tanks in five missions totaling seven passes." ...that the GAU-8A is ineffictive? The camera man did not need to be allowed "inside" because the fuel or ammo expolded upon inpact of the API/HEI rounds, or did you miss that part of the video(s)? I have also supplyed video of over 7 passes in which the tanks were destroyed (explosions from the tanks or was that dust also?) by the 30mm API rounds....so who wins this part of the debate? Outside of the tank burning, how does that happen? The flames were coming from the inside of the tank(s) and the hatches were open because they were BLOWN open by the fuel/ammo explosions INSIDE the tanks! Thank you and yes they are.... and they over 25 years old. You have not countered (commented on) my comments on the advances in the A-10 hit % with the avionics upgrades or the improvments in the ammo (teflon bands/SAS engagement on first trigger detent) which have a big impact on your "report" . -

Your hit numbers are from 1979 before the LASTE (Low Altitude Safty and Target Enhanment) mod which incressed the hit % to 80mils, 80% of the rounds will impact a 20 foot area from 5,000 feet. With the new IFFCC (Intergrated Flight Fire Control Computer) upgrade the % has incressed to 90mils. I know I will never convence you and I don't have the time to try because most of your info is dated (like using the old 1350 rounds when todays drum will only hold 1,174 +/- 5 rounds) so I will leave you with a few more videos and your opinions..... http://www.warthogpen.com/bs/a104.wmv -
A-10's GAU-8 is inefficient against any main battle tank
Dice replied to Mayh3M's topic in Lock On: Flaming Cliffs 1 & 2
I’ve never seen this report and it may be correct for this isolated test but to say the GAU-8A is not effective against T-62 tanks based on this is wrong! I will not go into current capabilities but will tell you the A-10 and avenger cannon were proven effective before the aircraft was even allow to be built. In 1973 the USAF pulled 30 million dollars of A-10 funding until the A-10 System Program Office could prove the aircraft/gun combination. Tanks were bought, pulled from scrap-heaps (and refurbished) and given to the US from countries like Israel (captured tanks) and placed in the desert test range outside Nellis AFB NV., at that time this collection of tanks was the third largest the world, not just two like in the above report. The tanks were loaded with a standard load of fuel and ammo (yes standard load) and A-10s attacked them from low, medium, and high angles and altitudes. The GAU-8U’s API round proved highly effective in penetrating and destroying the tanks by both the pyretic effect and by adding an HEI round ever 4th round. I’ll let you guys argue about it current abilities against modern tanks but I will tell you there haven been improvements in the aircraft and the API round itself like, the Teflon ring (on all rounds) which cuts down on muzzle to shell friction and gas pressure lost, better and faster burning power, and the addition of the SAS (Stability Augmentation System) with stabilizes the aircraft with the first detent of the trigger making the hit % higher. My point? The report which started this thread is not reprehensive of the capabilities of the GAU-8A and its ability to destroy T-62 tanks. BTW the A-10 SPO was sure to film the gun tests and the report and film are called the Mcdermott report (I don’t have the report at home). I do have a copy of the test film and I’m including a short clip for your enjoyment…… http://www.warthogpen.com/bs/a102.wmv -

Shepski, would "they" be interested in upgrading the A-10 to the PE configuration? Our first test install (Eglan AFB) will roll out on the 29th of this month....the A-10C is almost here! :D -
Hi everyone, what's going on in here???
