Next DCS (US) Fixed Wing Aircraft Wish List
Chris CDN replied to diecastbg's topic in DCS Core Wish List
I think what he's refering to are low-G pushovers which aren't a concern in helicopters like the Apache. Helicopters which have a fully articulated rigid rotor system don't have to worry about mast bumping or anything like that. Teetering underslung rotor systems like the ones in the Huey are prone to colliding with the tail boom if you're in a low-G or negative G situation. -
Screenshots look great. Looking forward to a highly polished final product. Keep up the good work!

Brilliant. Keep up the good work.

Those screen shots are stunning. Fantastic work on the models as well. Looking forward to the next producers note, my Beta invite and spending the money for a system that'll run this thing maxed out.

I have yet to see anything DCS related that isn't. I wouldn't lose any sleep over it, these guys know what they're doing.

DCS: A-10C Warthog HOTAS simulation capability
Chris CDN replied to sungsam's topic in DCS: A-10C Warthog
I'm not sure if this is news or not, but Thrustmaster's Website is showing an MSRP of €399 ($600 USD). Is this going to sway anybody who had originally planned on purchasing this? -
DCS A-10C producer notes number one!

Fantastic work Matt. Thanks. -
Do any of you guys fly choppers in the real world?
Chris CDN replied to Conure's topic in DCS: Ka-50 Black Shark
I have experience on both the civilian and military side of rotary wing aviation. I have flown the R22, Bell 206 Jetranger, EC145 and Bell 412. DCS:BS does as good a job as can be done replicating the experience of flying a helicopter but as posted earlier it lacks the "seat of your pants" input and feedback on the flight controls that are literally required to fly helicopters in the real world. The avionics, fuel systems and power management are all very well modeled in BS and I'm looking forward to seeing how the electrical system is modeled in DCS: A10C. Bottom line: This is the closest thing you can get to flying a helicopter without forking out the cash for some lessons yourself. If you're at all interested most flight schools offer an introductory 20 minute lesson for around $100. It's well worth the cash just to see how well you can hover. Be warned though, flying helos is even more addictive than you'd think. -
Excellent advice. I had hoped on having a stellar system from the get-go, but having some hands on feedback from consumers is probably the best way to go. I'll keep my kidney off ebay for the time being.

I've been following the progress of DCS: A-10 since I purchased DCS:BS about eight months ago. What little we've seen so far seems to indicate that this will be a sim by which all others will be judged. The level of fidelity and attention to detail is like nothing I've seen so far. The SimHQ article left much to be desired, but there's clearly a method to the madness as Eagle Dynamics hasn't let me down yet. My question (which borders on trolling, but there's little else to discuss at the moment) is whether or not anyone has any idea what the specs are on the computers being used to demonstrate the current build? I will most certainly be upgrading for this sim (and probably buying the new Warthog HOTAS) and was wondering if I should sell one of my kidneys or just keep saving my pennies. I'm anticipating purchasing something close to what wags has but if I can save a few bucks by getting something that's not quite on the bleeding edge that would be great too. Any input is appreciated.

My apologies for not being able to meet the last few meet-ups. It seems to me that you guys are enjoying yourselves and I can't wait to get back into it once real life slows down just a bit. Cheers!

Just a quick bump. See you all online shortly.

Sorry I wasn't able to stay on very long on Sunday. Things are quite busy around here and I was only able to get online for about 45 minutes or so. Thanks to everyone who keeps making these events a huge success. Again, I've updated the first post with this Sunday's date on it. See you all out there (and don't worry about being a fifth wheel, there's a reason it's called rookie meet up.)
-
I will most likely take you up on that kind offer. I need to test out my shiny new TrackIR setup.
-
Thanks to all who attended, it was a good time despite the fact that I was upside down and on fire most of the time. I'll update the first post in this thread to reflect this coming Sunday's date as the next "Rookie meet-up". Same bat-time, same bat channel (albeit on Teamspeak 3). Eddie, is this going to have a conflict with your ARMA2 matches? I haven't been on too much as I seem to have had the infamous Launcher.exe fault after mistakenly overwriting my blackshark.lua file. I should have everything back up and running shortly. See you all on the field / at the FARP. We'll try to find a mission with a little less air-to-air and SAM assets.

Update: Easiest solution to this problem was a full format of my PC. Suggested Action: Pour l'amour de dieu, put a warning on the settings page warning not to overwrite blackshark.lua, it would have saved me 5-6 hours of my life. Bug description: Yesterday, while remapping some joystick functions, I accidentaly wrote over the original blackshark.lua file. The next time I started the game I would get the launcher.exe error. Like most of the other people here, I can launch a MP game but not the SP game. I uninstalled and reinstalled the game, including the patch and still have the same result. I have even tried copying and pasting a copy of the blackshark.lua file I found on the forums, with no result. PC Configuration 1. AMD Phenom quad core 2.2Ghz 2. ASUS M3N78 PRO 3. 4GB 4. Geforce GTS 250 - Driver version 8.17.11.9562 5. Generic DVD/CDRW drive 6. DSL. 7. Logitech freedom 2.4 8. Fully up to date Windows 7 Home premium 9. DirectX version 11 Attachments DxDiag.txt

Is there anyway someone can post a copy of the blackshark.lua file? I'd hate to reinstall the entire game just to fix this issue.

Just a shameless bump to remind people about this. We'll meet at 1900Z (1400 EST) on Eddie's TeamSpeak server and set something up from there. Everyone's welcome!

Updated 21 January, 2009 Good day, After a couple of weeks of flying the Black Shark I decided to make the jump into multi-player last night. Sad thing is, I couldn't find any servers with more than one or two people on them. What I would like to do is get together with some other rookie KA-50 pilots and run some easy missions, or even just target practice and general tomfoolery. I propose we meet up on Eddies Teamspeak channel (which has been moved to Teamspeak 3 at the moment) at 2 PM EST (That's 1900Z or 1100 PST) on Sunday, the 24th of January. From there, we'll find a server with a few open spots, or set something up ourselves. Look forward to seeing some new faces there, and feel free to PM me if you're interested in hosting on your server or have any questions/comments. Cheers! Chris

I thought I'd pop my head in and say hello. I've been playing BS for a few days now, and besides some minor autopilot issues and the fact that I'm almost useless with the weapons system it's been a great success. I love the level of fidelity in this sim. I'm actively looking for a group of people to fly with. I have taken a look at some of the squadrons out there, but until I'm a 'good' enough pilot to tag along with them, maybe some other rookies want to get together and fly? Drop me a PM if you're interested. Also, these forums have been a fantastic resource over the last couple of days. Thanks to all involved for their great work!
