And I am pretty sure we will hit 100k... But the 375k we all want with a B-17 and large map feels far away :(
-
OK - better stretch goals now but it's getting seriously confusing ;) Went from 40 to 97 to get the Dora Beta and that T-shirt I will never wear ;) But will I get the alpha access? It says: 85+ "DCS World Tier 2. Everything at the $50 level, plus a digital copy of DCS World FW-190D-9 with beta access (when available in early 2014). Estimated delivery: Feb 2014" And there are 3 $50 offers (one of them including alpha access)... I just want the Dora and alpha access - no T-Shirt... And I have the P-51... Sigh ;)

Hey - what about the Bristol Fighter? Used for almost every role there is including wing walking ;) -
Well - how about a restart then? Send an email to the backers explaining that Ilya is a sim nut and not a Kickstarter marketing guy - and after reconsideration they will stop the current campaign (everyone gets their money back). And then in the same mail a link to the new Kickstarter project. I'm pretty sure most would climb aboard again (me with 100 instead of 40). And then hopefully with a lot more money in the end? Sure - a number of pledgers would get annoyed a bail out but...

Some really good looking sticks there! Would be nice to be able to use one of them on my G940 to get away from the rather bland looking generic grip it has! And a fine gesture to help out the campaign!

Well picking only one plane in the poll is really hard. It's like the classic question my kids use to put - "Dad, if you had to choose one meal that you would have to eat for the rest of your life - what would it be?" :) But having to pick one I might still go for the Typhoon... It's such a mean looking beast and I still have memories of reading Clostermann's memoirs where the Typhoon and particularly the Tempest are described as "beasts" with awesome power etc. And we have never had it in a real study sim (accept as a mod in 1946?) Or the A-26... I was close to getting a ride in an A-26B once - and for the ones that has seen one flying it really has a sex appeal that few twin engined aircraft have. It just looks mean and it's so very obvious which end of if is the one you point at the enemy... :) And of course the 109 that I put far down on my list as they are doing a K... I have a special relationship with the 109 as my mother and grandparents where strafed by a 109 (probably a G but it could of course have been a K) during the war in a boat while fleeing from Estonia to Sweden in late 1944. I still love it :) But the K feels like it's "too far" from the original 109. A rather early G would be nice - before they introduced cost cutting measures and too much bulbs etc. Saw the "Rote Sieben" (rebuilt Buchon to G4 specs) three weeks ago in Roskilde the day before it crashed. It's such an evil looking plane it the air and that DB605 sends chills far down the spine... But choosing one is not easy :) -
Exactly. I'm also at 40 right now "for the sake of getting it done". Having spiral bound manuals does not have that much appeal to me even though I sometimes take out my old Falcon 3 and 4 manuals and fondle them for while (i need help ;)) I would trigger on a model like this (leave the P-51 and D9 out of it and let people buy them separately and avoid confusion for people that already have them!): - You get the game with the Normandy map and a C-47 or Harvard for free (even though it really should be 25-30 but I accept that they want to ride the War Thunder bandwagon) - At a pledge of 20 you get the Spitfire - At 40 you get the 109K - At 60 you get the P-47 - At 80 you get the Fw-190 A5 and beta access - At 100 you get the B-17 and alpha access - At 200 you get spiral bound manuals and get mentioned in the credits etc.. - At 1000 you get a ride in the Flying Legends B-17 (get there yourself) - And finally at 5000 you also get a ride in a WWII fighter in the Flying Legends collection :) A ladder like that would get me thinking seriously of raising the bet ;)

Good initiative! My ordered list: 1. Hawker Typhoon IB 2. FW.190A-5 3. A-26B-15 4. B-17 5. P-47D-28 6. Me 410 A 7. Mosquito FB.VI 8. P-38J-15 9. Ju-88 10. Bf-109K-4 11. Spitfire Mk IX 12. Me 262A-1 My reasons are many and involve how many times I have flown them in other sims, usefulness for the scenario/balance, gut feeling and sex appeal... ;) EDIT - And we need an me but I never liked the K so that's why it's so low as I follow the thread rules ;) -
I fully agree - even one of the free fighters feels too generous. Like many here I already own the DCS P-51 so the pledge of $40 gives me the D9. Really not that attractive - more like a 1-1 transaction as I guess the D9 will be $39 or so... But like many others I really want DCS WWII so that sweetens the deal. By changing the "Game+Map+ 3 fighters" module to cost $30 (cheap by the way for 3 planes) it sure would draw more people into this!
-
Yes something like that. A T6/Harvard would be nice (as CloD did the Moth). The problem is that a trainer "has no place" in the real Normandy map. So - as a proposal - why not have a C-47 (DC-3) as a free plane for everyone... A C-47 would for sure make sense in the Normandy setting - probably one of the most used aircraft the first day at least ;) And those poor sods that where piloting them sure have not gotten the credit they deserve for taking a plane like that over enemy territory! There sure could be some interesting paratrooper drop missions - but the urge to pay up for something with guns would be strong :) Or thinking of it - how about going all in and add a Waco CG-4? Very simple cockpit and no systems to think of modelling. You could then have a mission to land in field X near Carentan etc... The urge to pay up for a P-51 would be even stronger - and it would really be an interesting addition (but just fun a time or two probably ;)) But back to the C-47... It would also make the MP mode from the "Warbirds" franchise possible - which I actually thought was a lot of fun (even though not that "realistic"). When all the AAA etc around an base has been destroyed a message appears for all friendly pilots that "The air defences at base X are now down - get paratroopers there in X minutes to capture the base for your side". Sure nothing for the hardcore guys, but we are talking about attracting new pilots now... It also promotes team play and adds a "dynamic" purpose for all types of aircraft. Get the A-26:s to take out the AAA, and escort the C-47:s dropping the paratroopers to capture the base. Another thing about the C-47 is that a DC-3 could sell as a DCS plane in DCS World? When trying to get the FSX "civilian" guys over I think that the DC-3 can have some attraction? But then we naturally need the Ju-52 too :)
-
Yes, you are naturally right and I am not targeting those with my "bashing"... It is very obvious looking at the list of the 847 backer that are already in that most of the names sound like they come from "the west" where $40 often is easy to set aside without having to sacrifice something important. I'm targeting the rich western free riders and whiners that say that they are "part of the community" but wait until the stretch goals are "better" etc ;)
-
Yes - having it clear that it is a $30 module you get if you pledge instead of free would have been the right decision in my book too to make people that are "free riders" to step in. The problem is that changing it now will start heated discussions with bad PR... I do think that Ilya with this comment from the Kickstarter discussion board is on the right track to get the ones that have already pledged to "rise their bets" however: Creator Ilya Shevchenko about 15 hours ago Hey folks, We're very close to the decision on moving the B-17 up in the stretch goals. It's 99% a yes. Just need to crunch the numbers around a little bit. Going to update within 24 hours. Also going to add some new rewards in the same edit with the ability to give keys to friends, wallpapers, and alpha access Getting early alpha and beta access may get people to wake up (and it would going above $40 more interesting). A B-17 would for sure be a nice carrot too if it feels realistic to reach that goal :)
-
3 flyable for free? Well, as I see it now it after the "community" have shown their real colors the maths are a lot easier (with only 850 stepping in so far): Everyone gets: no game and no planes. And best of all for all the greedy ones holding their cash close to the chest. No one has to spend anything! And then people can go back to spending months in threads complaining that the big publishers have "knife stabbed" the simulation market that was so alive and sprawling in the 90:ies. We at least know who really holds the dripping knife now - don't we? ;)
-
Well - I think that 160*100 for the initial release makes sense. It will take a lot of time just making that map with any kind of detail and I would rather like to have a few more planes than a large map that is not used anyway... They can come later in expansions. And if they only get to the 100k goal I can't understand how they will be able to do 10*10 km with three new aircraft ;)

Thanks a lot Houdini, followed your instructions step by step and it worked fine. First I got the warning that BS1 was not activated when I tried to install the BS2 Update module so I guess the reg got lost after running the .reg file (I did not uninstall that one). So I had to start BS1 and got the activation dialog (and lost another activation). After that BS2 Update started and after starting DCS World with only BS2 Update activated I got the activation that previously failed and it worked this time. After starting an arcade mission to just try it, I tried to exit the mission by pressing escape - but then I could not click on any of the buttons in the interface... Guess I have to scan the forum for that fix too... After killing DCS the hard way with the task manager I installed all the other modules, A10, CA and P51. Started an A10 mission and got all the activations in a row for CA, P51 and A10. Now I'm down to 7 activations for A10 and 8 for the rest. Guess I will get one back each month if I remember i correctly? Now I just have to redo all my config for my G940 and get the mouse to work in the ingame menus. My support ticket that is a week old will probably never get an answer but I will direct them here if they ever contact me ;) EDIT AGAIN: And I found the answer to the mouse issue here if anyone else gets it after reinstall: http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=94708

Well - I have the same problem, have all modules and after being FORCED to uninstall everything to get 1.2.1 it all worked accept the BS2 Upgrade module. I had to first reinstall BS1 with Starforce etc to even install and then ran into the exact problem you have with failed activation even though it even "remembers" the correct key... One week ago I put in a support ticket but no answer still, so I guess I have to uninstall everything AGAIN, and then try your procedure with the reg clean etc. And yes, I am irritated and have bought every friggin game ED released since the original Flanker for DOS. EDIT: A correction is that it's not really Starforce for BS1, that was Flaming Cliffs 1?

Hi! Been flying all Eagle Dynamics sims since the old DOS version of SU-27 Flanker and own every module in the latest iteration etc. I just love all the good stuff that you have done over the years and I think FC3 will get me back in this world again (or if you get some opposition to that nice P-51 as it feels a bit lonely ;)) But... I am sorry to say that I'm rather tired of that Black Sea region now after almost 20 years... I know you guys are from that region so no offence ;) For me it would be nice with some new combat grounds after all these years, and being from northern Europe (Sweden) if would be nice with a map that could be used for a "Cold war gone hot" scenario now that we will get the aircraft needed in FC3? Sure, I will buy the Nevada map but if I would get to pick a region of the world to have in DCS it's actually rather far down the list and really only fits for a "Top Gun" training scenario in my mind ;) I do naturally understand that doing a map of Germany/Poland or so would take a lot of time and there are many problems with the number of cities and road networks etc - but me and many others would have no problem paying $39 for it alone... And it sure would make the game easier to sell in the future? The P-51 and possible new friends to that plane sure would fit better over Germany than Georgia... Maybe there are already plans for new regions by ED or some third party? There are so many subforums here and as a "lurker" it is hard to search everywhere, so sorry if there already have been tons of discussions about new maps ;) Thanks /mazex
