Hi, Just restarted my DCS career and I do not know if there is any way to make the active pause stop everything in the world accept my wobbly VR head and mouse trying to flip some small switch in a corner? If it is a technical issue based on the fact that the game engine needs to "run" for me to change stuff I can accept it. It may be that it's to tedious to loop over all movable objects att stop them... How ever, if it is some "fair play" thought then it would be nice to give us a "Complete active pause". Kind of annoying when having started the engine, poked around with everything and then when taxiing I paused for 10 seconds to change something and my Viggen wingman drives right over me while "paused" ;)

As I was a bit concerned that my stuff had not been shipped, even though I got the confirmation immediately, I sent an email asking what happened. Below is the reply I got on Thursday that might be good to know for the rest of you: Thank you for your order! I can confirm there is nothing wrong with your order! We estimate up to 7 working days order processing time, but due to the demand this can sometimes run slightly over. you will receive a shipping notification email when your order has been shipped. More information can be found on our site: https://virpil-controls.eu/delivery-info If you have any other questions, please let me know! They still have not sent it even though I ordered 7 days ago but looking at the information above I guess it's "normal". Not on other sites, but whatever. As long as I get my stuff in the end!

Realized that it needs just a bit more north that would not add much complexity to get the Swedish F5 and F17 airbases in scope. F5 that is just at the north edge now did fly J-35:s during the cold war (converted to JAS-39 and was closed after that). F17 flew Viggens during the cold war and fly JAS-39 today... And there where other road bases for Viggen in the map area. Come to think of it, they flew CH-46 (HKP 4 in Sweden) anti submarine helicopters from F17 as well - that would be an interesting addition to the Heli missions :) Multi player where someone mans the sonar station. And you could get away with simple 3D models of the subs as they should be invisible on map :) And naturally SwAF had Hueys like everyone else... Some F-16 bases in Denmark are in scope, Skydstrup that still fly F-16 etc, Denmark flew J-35 from Bornholm if I don't remember it wrong and do fly F-16:s there today "when needed" ... And the West German bases with all sort of planes... And these are all NATO bases so any west plane fits the scenario with realism. I included Darlowo on the far east side of the map that was an old WP airbase there that I know of, but there are naturally a bunch of others for our Migs and Su:s. Note - J-35 Draken is in development by Heatblur, initially as AI only - but with hints that it might come as a module. EDIT: A screenshot from my CMANO (Command Modern Air / Naval Operations) scenario for the area I propose - in this scenario you control Sweden, Denmark or Soviet Union. Sweden has Viggens from F17, Viggens from F7 on roadbases, J-35:s and SK-60 (as light attack) from F5 for Sweden. For Denmark you have F16:s from Skrydstrup (the base to the far west on the image below) and J-35 from Bornholm. But - did not include any West German bases for this scenario and the main WP bases in this scenario are in the Kaliningrad area that is not included in the screenshot. Example or east german cold war bases that could be included (the famous Peenemünde for example flew Migs of all sorts in the cold war 15,17,21 etc)

Mmm, you might be right... But, on the cut below it's clearly smaller than the Syria map, and actually not more than a couple of million people living on this cut (almost like Damascus ;)). No large cities accept Copenhagen actually, and the german / polish coast line is actually not that populated. Rather sparsely populated area for being Europe actually... And the water percent increases ;) Added some North Sea to the west to get those US Carriers in a nice position...

Lol :) And as I am starting to come with code requests, another one. As many people will not run the program in a cmd-window but just click it. How about this end so they see the success message? printf("The file G940_Update_FW0142.exe was patched succesfully. Now run it to patch the firmware\n"); printf("Press any key to continue\n"); getch(); return 0;
-
Thanks a lot again! Works great for me as well. Wrote a post in the IL2 forums about this patch by the way, other happy users there: https://forum.il2sturmovik.com/topic/45585-new-april-2019-firmware-for-g940-and-the-throttle-works/ As you can see it unfortunately had the unexpected effect on me that I finally ordered a Virpil set that I have been considering... - And a small code request ;) Would love a small success message before return 0; in the end like: printf("The file G940_Update_FW0142.exe was patched succesfully. Now run it to patch the firmware"); return 0;

I would be surprised if Korea was not an instant buy for most of us here even if it was a generic 2019 environment. Especially with the upcoming F-16... When we have enough candidates here in the wishlist forum it would be interesting with a poll. It would surprise me a lot if Korea was not on the top 1 or 2 on that list. And Afganistan is already in production but I have a hard time seeing that beating Korea.
-
Well - not that it might give you more comfort but I ordered a WarBRD base, CM2 and T-50 Throttle on the 20:th of April, got the order confirmation email and then silence ;) Just sent them an email asking if all is fine over there :) At the other hand, ordered some VKB T-rudder mk IV pedals from the VKB EU shop the day after and they managed to change my country to DE (germany) instead of SE (Sweden). So got a confirmation from DHL that my package from VKB has left the Netherlands for Lund - Nuremberg (Germany) instead of Lund - Sweden... So at least I have some pedals out there on the move (or someone in Nuremburg is happy). I don't know whats best but it's sure an exiting shopping experience dealing with these "boutique" brands :) They claim that they are worth it though...

It's interesting that when all of us old sim nerds think of the F16, we think that Korea is the natural playground for that plane after F3 and F4 :) Having said that - I am all in for a Korea Map, especially with the arguments here that it covers many of the planes we already have in the module basket...

Posted this in another thread, but then saw this "Map Wishlist" subforum. So - this is my proposal, the Southern Baltic region. Not that much bigger than the upcoming Syria map, but naturally much more complex depending on the level of unique landmarks and small roads that will be implemented. I can live with a compromise in that domain. A lot of interesting 1980:ies Cold war gone hot scenarios could be played out on this map... The big Soviet naval base / air bases of Kaliningrad in one corner, and room for US carrier groups in the North Sea outside Bremen, Viggens from southern Sweden, F-16:s from Denmark, Nato planes from Germany, Migs all over the former Eastern Block countries... I actually did a CMANO Scenario for this way back when: https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=769507143 Waves of SU-24:s, SU-17:s etc escorted by Su-27:s etc attacking Bornholm and Southern Sweden Swedish JA-37:s, J-35:s defending - and AJ-37:s going for the invasion armada. Danish F-16:s trying to save Bornholm from Mi-24:s and AIST hovercrafts from East Germany... I did put down quite a bit of work to get the Soviet and Swedsih OOB for 1991 as correct as I could for the airbases around Kaliningrad with a lot of help from Michael Holms interesting site that I really can recommend for someone trying to get correct Soviet OOB:s done for a scenario in DCS as well http://www.ww2.dk/new/newindex.htm And this is the OOB for my scenario: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1AfkM5CvzgQXWPZODsNcN_JFV6iGoW5oG3ltreQ3JVrk/edit?usp=sharing EDIT AGAIN (adding my "final" proposal some posts down to the first post): Thinking of it - as it mostly just adds a lot of water. We could expand the "box" west all the way to UK and include a bunch of 8:th AAF bomber / FTG bases (and Cold war bomber / attack bases) for the ones that like long missions... And yes, I did go a bit more south with this so Hamburg gets included as well with some more work naturally. But for both Cold War and WWII that really would be nice to have as well. And for Carrier OPs it makes more sense to keep the carriers a bit further from the European coast line any way... Map of 8:th AAF bases in 1944: http://www.303rdbg.com/h-england-map.html They fortunately where in just that "corner" of England that is perfect to reduce the amount of "unnecessary" land mass to model And with this we manage to squeeze in the Lakenheath airbase on the map which soon is going to be the only USAF base in the UK: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/RAF_Lakenheath We also gets some air bases for the Netherlands like Leeuwarden Air Base without getting the populated areas in scope And still - the only major cities on this map are Hamburg and Copenhagen. Smaller towns otherwise that don't require modelling of landmarks. Do a fairly simple wall around the old town Lubeck, add the Laboe tower and locks in Kiel etc. Not "that" hard. And "real bases" for almost of our planes in the set. Both WWII and Cold war. EDIT: My utlimate proposal further down this thread after discussion - where the "deleted" area can be low res terrain map

That would be nice as well. Only problem is that we need more ships to get that Harpoon feeling ;) And unfortunately the distances are a bit long with 1:1 representation for ground attack missions that are popular.
-
Agreed, naturally this would be a huge undertaking and has to be payware. In general, I think that we need to lower the demands for "uniqueness" in the form of landmarks etc that take ages to model in projects like this. Just look at Syria with all the old fortresses etc. For a civililan sim it will be important, but we really don't need Gedächtniskirche in Berlin modelled with all nooks and crannies. It will never be a target for bombing (again). Just put a big generic church tower there. Sure - some of the famous airports would be nice to have but for the others, just use "Generic Nato Air base - Large" etc. Doing remote air bases i Syria down to the last parking space is only interesting to the few that have actually visited them. And after the first few takeoffs it really does not matter for the game experience if it is a nicely laid out "Generic Nato Airbase - Large" you take off from. It is simply not worth it from a development time perspective...
-
As we are talking free maps here, number 2 and 3 are huge by DCS standards... Much bigger than any other map. But I would pay huge money for number 3 :) A more realistic nothern Europe map that is a bit bigger than the upcoming Syria map (but more water) would be this: A lot of interesting 1980:ies Cold war gone hot scenarios that could be done on this map... The big Soviet naval base / air bases of Kaliningrad in one corner, and room for US carrier groups in the North Sea outside Bremen, Viggens from southern Sweden, F-16:s from Denmark, Nato planes from Germany, Migs all over the former Eastern Block countries...

My guess is the Mach Loop - Wales... It has been mentioned as in development earlier - and don't you think that Wags would love to try a run in the Mach Loop IRL? Some F-15C's doing the "loop": https://www.youtube.com/embed/JultKcPcKjk?start=87 And that would fit as a small free map, getting Fulda gap or Korea for free would be nice though ;) I'm happy as long as it's sand free...

Thanks beta! Looks like we only need that Vietnam map then for my dream to come true rather soon :) And I meant the A7E Corsair for Vietnam even though the F4U would be nice as well for WW2 / Korea. If there is work on a Crusader it makes that much easier. But I guess with a flyable A6 that would be OK, especially with me starting this thread regarding the fact that we need more Cadillacs of the sky and not F-150:ies ;) A short summary by an ex Navy F4 pilot in Vietnam about the A7, A6 and F4 roles in ground attack missions: https://www.quora.com/Carrier-wings-included-A-6-Intruders-and-A-7-Corsairs-in-Vietnam-which-appear-similar-in-capability-on-paper-How-did-their-roles-differ-in-Vietnam-When-were-F-4s-also-included-in-the-attack-role Derailing in that direction, it really feels like the lack of maps is one of the other problems for DCS, and not an easy one to solve naturally with the detail level of DCS maps... It truly would be great for DCS to have an auto generated X-Plane style low fidelity map of whole earth and then let us buy detailed maps like Georgia, Nevada etc... I think that really would boost sales and the possibility for third party developers to spend time doing civilian planes as well. And I think a lot of the X-Plane / FSX / P3d crowd would love to be able to actually fire a missile sometimes... From a commercial standpoint, I think DCS would gain more on a "Auto gen" map of the whole world than more aircraft modules. Who would not buy a "Whole world map" for USD 49 or 59, even if it was lower res? And then get Orbx to do a high res for the ones who want that. On the low res we could have generic airfields for everything and no fancy landmarks. I don't need them when I'm on a strike mission and not sight seeing in a Cessna.. And it would for sure increase the attraction for new pilots to DCS.
-
That truly would be awesome. Can for sure see three Strike Eagles with full afterburners passing that kid in "Empire of the sun"... I really think that A2G makes way more interesting scenarios. But don't like to have to run away with my tail between my legs because some old Mig:s are loitering near the target. So ground attack capable aircraft with fangs if a fight occurs really are nice. And the F-15E sure is one notch above the F-18 in that category. But then the F-18 has the whole Carrier thingy that will make me use both... And a block 50 F-16 in between them for variation of diet. For some older Cadillacs, I would love to have an F4 on a Vietnam map. The F4 has "Cadillac of the sky" potential of the era... Ahh - dreaming on in the direction if we would have a Vietnam map (which would be beautiful by the way)... We already have the Mig-19 and 21 for NVAF. We have the Huey and an AH-1 has been discussed? Toss in some Crusaders, Corsairs, Mig-17:s and we have a solid starting set with the F5 already in the stable as well. And maybe some Intruders that can fit other scenarios as well with the F-18 / F-14 in more modern scenarios... But I will most of the time be in my F4, passing boys screaming from wrecked ATC towers ;)

Just bought a full Virpil setup yesterday night after power googling all the evening. As an old combatsim.com reader from the 90:ies this is the kind of reviews I trust :) If someone that has all the Hotas setups available use a Virpil for his daily flying - that's the stuff I want on my desk. Thanks!

We definitely think alike. The JA-37 would be much more interesting. They have said that it is in the pipeline, I guess it will be more work on the radar etc... But the AJS is fun as well! And the F-14 is on my list when I have at least understood some on the Hornet and the Huey I just bought. Heard a lot of good stuff about the flight model feeling "alive", which is what I like a lot. And my comment about "Cadillac of the sky... Horsepower!" was a quote from "Empire of the sun", where it refers to the P-51: When referring to it - it was more the feeling of really powerful aircraft roaring by at low altitude, with throttles pushed past all detents... Kids screaming of joy from old ATC towers :) And in the F-18 I get that feeling - not in the A-10C ;) But I fully agree - the F-14 or F-15 are much more P-51 divas of their era and more fitting for the Cadillac of the sky title! The F-18 is more of an Audi RS Estate of the sky... Not quite as fast as the real sportscars, but with nice trunk space and you can attach a trailer or a rack on the roof... And you don't need to send it to expensive service every other month :)
-
And if you would ask my wife - she would damn the Hornet Module if she knew that it was the F-18 that got me into ordering a full Virpil setup last night with the new CM2 grip, base, throttle and desktop holders. And this even though Fred41 a couple of weeks ago in the controllers thread posted a new firmware for the G940 that fixes most of the hysteresis on the throttle + other non stick axis. But with the Hornet (and VR) beeing so good I simply need more buttons and precision... Sigh ;) But she does not know - and when the stuff arrives I will tell her a grey lie that it cost me EUR 300 (and not 900 with shipping + tax). She will be pissed off anyway :)
-
Yep - have tried that :) I was a bit curious about why it was on "by default" and according to the checklists as "spak" means stick in Swedish. And it really helps...

Thank you ED! Been around since the original Su-27 Flanker (for Windows 95 ;)). My first flight in an Su-27 in that game is up there with my first takeoff with a Bf 109 in the orginal IL2. The feeling of an aircraft actually moving through air. Sure - it was relative as the flight model of the original Flanker naturally is crap by modern standards. But at that time - wow. So - since we entered the DCS era I have unfortunately NOT had the same joy of the grand daddy Su-27 Flanker (and 2.0 and 2.5) where I just took off in an Su-27 for the joy of it. Full afterburners skimming the shoreline of Crimea... In DCS we started off with the Ka-50 that never hooked me (dreaming of an Apache), and the A-10 where you sure have a wonderful module but if you go full throttle it feels like the seagulls have time to escape to safety. One agressive turn and all your speed is lost... And then when you added our old Flaming Cliffs aircraft for free that was nice but it was not that original feeling of "this plane is really flying at 20 degrees alpha where you feel the air resisting it". Have bought a bunch of modules and all the maps anyway (mostly to support the team) but did never spend any time with it as I did not get that "wow" feeling. VR got me flying a bit more but I lost it after a while again. So - now I finally bought the Hornet after too long time and started a free flight over Caucasus. Inititally I thought I had "game mode" on as it went on rails - especially after the Viggen. Did a few turns at lower speed and started to understand how it works to get those nice contrails all the way along the leading edge. An wow - now I have that smile on my face that I had the first time taking off in my Su-27 in the original Flanker. Full throttle with semi burnt kerosene sprayed all over the Black Sea shorelines. Seagulls and villagers fleeing in panic as I roar over the countryside, doing insane turns with full afterburners and 25-30 alpha just over the local town halls for the fun of it! And I love it! This is what we need - Cadillac of the Sky... Horsepower! P.s - sure you have more of those horsepowers in the FC F-15 or Su-27, but not the soul of the flight model in the Hornet. Sure - the FCS is making me feel like a king in the sky but I am OK with the traction control on "Sport" in a Ferrari as well instead of turning it off that the real race drivers do :) And you can force it to 50 degress alpha and beyond... And an honorable mention to the Viggen module where you really get that "Full afterburner" kick, and it was the Viggen that actually got me hooked to buy the F-18. But unfortunately the trusty old 70:ies era Viggen cannot get that nice "hanging on the tip of my afterburner feeling" of the F-18. This is naturally realistic as it's thrust to wheight ratio is not up there with the Hornet and no fly-by-wire to assist my crazy turns ;) And one thing lacking in the AJ-37 is that A2A is just a failure of you plan and the growl of your Sidewinders is your only assist... I don't fancy having an F-22 where you are the king of the sky, but the Hornet feels like a potent enough multi role platform that can do most tasks well. Really looking forward to the F-16 to complement it now. And maybe a full fidelity F-15E...

Fred - you are awesome! I have been using the G940 since it came out and fixed the cable way back when and applied 1.42. Since then I have been using it as there are no other alternatives for us that reqire FFB (I naturally have an MSFFB2 in my closet). As an old IRL pilot of gliders and small prop planes I simply cannot live without FFB... But after looking for new fw patches for years after 1.42 I realized that I had to live with the throttle reversal bug. Just yesterday I started thinking about getting a Warthog throttle and keep the G940 stick - and came to this forum to see what other alternatives that might be available. Found this thread and got your patch smoking from the oven :) And it really does a big difference! Now the throttle is GOOD! To better see the input I loaded up IL2 where you see the % of throttle when changing. I have previously been trying to set it to exactly 80% for formation flying etc. It has been a royal pain in the ... Now I just sat there with a smile going from 70% to 80% to 90% and then quickly back to 70% And I can nail it directly. Sat like a silly child doing it for 10 minutes! And have not realized the problem with the hardware deadzone of the rudders. Love that you have removed that as well. This REALLY needs a separate post in every flight sim forum for the few of us that still use the G940. But please - wait until I have bought a few on eBay that I can sell expensively after the news get out ;) Again - a really big thank you for your effort! :worthy:

Well, I read on a Swedish page that one of the maps that Heatblur might be doing is the area around the Swedish island Gotland in the Baltic Sea: https://varvat.se/dcs-world-ajs-37-viggen-recension/ My translation of the last part: "But I have heard a rumor that the studio might develop a new map for DCS. This time based on the region around Gotland. In other words, time to sink some Russian destroyers in the future." That would be nice, especially if it covers some part of the Baltic coast and Kaliningrad. Good setting for some fictional cold war action... Landed on Gotland in a C-130 during my military service and they had Viggens on the Visby airport on "incident watch duty" back then, even though it was not a pemanent Viggen base. A lot of Soviet aircraft that regularly tested how fast they where able got into the air... And we continue to have JAS 39's on Gotland in the same manner. Below an image of a JAS 39 landing on a regular road on Gotland (an old Viggen tradition to be able to land almost anywhere with very fast turn around):

OK - found the problem myself. Had not selected the "Build to manage" in the top right corner: As a first time noob user (and development manager in my daytime work ;)) - I think it would be good with a dialog saying: "You must select the build to manage in the top right corner to continue", if you click "install" etc without having done this selection first. As it is now there is no feedback so you start wondering if some background process might have started or similar. But - now that I know that this seems like a very valuable tool! Thanks for developing and supporting it. Have done some "gaming tools" myself and it can be frustrating when people come in with propsals how the app should work after spending many late unpaid hours creating something to help others... :)
